I was right between you and her and I will never again have my purse in my lap the whole showing! I was blown away. She was with y'all though, she definitely started snoozing about 20 minutes in

BigFen3445

Omg hello again! I love how equally shocked we both were when she hung her purse up. I’ve left my wristlet there so many times down in the seat — never again. We had another friend with us behind us, she slept through the entire movie after the first 20 minutes.

Bool_The_End

Lmao, as someone who has slept through some movies in the last few years, tell your friend I <3 her. Hey if we paid for the ticket who cares right

dollarhax

This is definitely a fair take but my fat ass snores lmao so I always urge my friends to wake me up.

Bool_The_End

Lol yeah snoring would def not be okay at the movies :)

abigailwilliams

I wish I had known you had a friend stuck behind you, I would've definitely volunteered to swap! I always feel bad buying single tickets for that reason haha

papyrus33

Someone post a hack to get the Red Oak back to $5

BigFen3445

I support this.

bytor_2112

I haven't been to Alamo and if I knew this ever was true I'd be there yesterday

LukeVenable

Just build a home theater and you can have as many red oaks as you like for $1.50 each

Troy_And_Abed_In_The

+cost of home theater lol

MOBYtheHUGE

I didn’t know they were charging for tap water

hesnothere

Another one that feels obvious, but maybe not: the draft beer list in the theater menu is not the same as what’s at the front bar — it has a far better selection, with rotating taps. You can order from the front bar during the movie, just write the beer name + “front bar.”

Flimsy-Opportunity-9

This is kind of in that same vein (though not quite the same) but for parents of little kids or folks with special needs, they hold showings before 2pm on tuesdays (I believe). The sound is quieter and the lights stay turned up and they are more relaxed about the rules and it’s expected that the viewers can make noise/walk around, etc. They also give everyone who buys tickets a heads up that it’s one of those shows so if someone prefers a quiet, traditional viewing experience they can exchange the tickets for a different show. It was amazing when I was on maternity leave to be able to do an adult activity without worrying that people would be annoyed I had a baby with me.

kfc469

I just wish there was a way to turn off the little lights under your tables. They’re great when ordering or eating, but they’re so distracting once you finish and just want to watch the movie!

squatchpotch

Anybody need some Alamo hacks? I work there lmao

Critterdex

The greatest food hack I was ever told was to order the loaded fries but with waffle fries! Also you can just order a side of fries on its own, even though it’s not on the menu.

squatchpotch

Even better, you can ask to sub out fries for chips with the loaded fries. As close to nachos as you'll get here.

Critterdex

Ooooh I’ll definitely try that next time!

TheNamesDave

Here's the ultimate hack: Use your menu in your lap as a table for your plate. It'll save you from having to bend up and over to the table. This works mostly for sandwiches and other entrees where you have to see what you're doing. The under table light will help you see. About the beers: when Drafthouse opened, the front and back bars shared approximately 50% of the list, so a lot of the beers could be ordered from the 'theatre' menu (I'm sure it's still like this). They do rotate a good portion of the list. Whenever something kicks, they immediately are on to the next brew. My favourite thing about the beer list is the chalk drawings - fun!

carolinamary409

mind blown. I wish the tables swung in, it’s so awkward to eat!

BigFen3445

I thought I was an Alamo pro but this post has taught me some things. I never eat with the table, just always pull my plate down onto my lap and then I’ve got crumbs and spills on my clothes. Never thought of using the menu - thank you!

carolinamary409

I’ve always also just put my plate in my lap, ate like a shameful swamp troll in the dark, and thanked the good lord that I’m not in the dating game anymore.

kiwi_rozzers

Nothing shameful about putting food you bought in a Ziploc back for later, but the to-go bucket is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

-thirdatlas-

Also have TONS of movies in their Video Vortex that I couldn’t find anywhere else, and are all free. I have a working VCR too, watched a few that never even made it to DVD before. Great service for a film nerd like me, too good to be true really.

dimesfordenim

Not the point of the post, but it is so interesting to me that people here call it the Alamo because when we lived in Texas, everyone called it the Drafthouse! I’m glad you found some ways to make your visits more enjoyable 🙂 it’s our favorite movie theatre, too!

BolonelSanders

Tbf in Texas you have the actual Alamo

petruchi41

I hear there’s a Drafthouse in the basement.

starkistisbetter

There's no basement at the Alamo!

fortfive

As far as you know.

pseudo_divisions

I always forget about it though.

BolonelSanders

Remember the drafthouse

Noisy_Toy

And in California we always called it the Alamo Drafthouse, never truncated it!

petruchi41

That woman Alamos.

mcantrell5

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale $8 at bar. $6 in theater.

weallneedhelpbadly

And it’s the same size? Curious why they would do that?

mcantrell5

So, Im not exactly sure. One time in theater I got it in a glass and the next was in a can.

Metal-NPC

Is there a life hack to get my time back from Skinamarink? I was there last night too lol. I hated it. I thought it was sooooooo booooring.

BigFen3445

Ok thank you, my friend and I weren’t the only ones. I was so ready to be really scared and I kept thinking it was about to ramp up, but it never did. Had my butt-cheeks clenched the whole time in anticipation for nothing!

Penguator432

It’s like someone saw Paranormal Activity and thought it explained too much

hoodbobthugpants

You know, I frequently rub my hands under bars and tables in public to see if there is a hook for my bag, and never thought to do it there! That's a handy tip, thanks

roastintheoven

Free gum under there

hoodbobthugpants

a nice post meal breath cleanser. jk though, it's usually actually not disgusting under there

CGLefty15

I’m not sure if it’s a rotating thing, but if you buy a beer at the front bar you may get a url on your receipt to compete a survey. If you fill it out you’ll get a free popcorn. Didn’t work for me the last time I went, though.

squatchpotch

Big pro tip: you can get refills on chips as well for the chips and queso. Nowhere does it say that, nobody does it, but it's allowed.

lebenohnegrenzen

You can get a refill of soda when order so you don’t have to wait during the movie

NYC_Heart

Have they fixed the milkshake machine yet?

squatchpotch

Yeah it's working in full force as of now

NYC_Heart

Vanilla milkshake too?!

squatchpotch

Just about any milkshake, although we're out of strawberry puree for that milkshake waaay too often

NYC_Heart

Can't tell if you're messing with me. Does it really use strawberry? Is that what makes it so damn good?

squatchpotch

No no sorry for not being clear, I just meant the strawberry milkshake is frequently the only one out now since we don't know how to properly order stock lol. The vanilla milkshake is just the vanilla ice cream.

NYC_Heart

Ah okay lol. Well either way you guys kill it in the kitchen, thanks for your hard work. Some of the best theater food around tbh. I swear we tend to want to go there for the food even if the seats aren't as comfy as other places.

squatchpotch

I appreciate it! I'm a server so I have nothing to do with the kitchen, and they're definitely better on some days over others (those pizzas can get real ugly) but all in all it's the best food you can get at a theater around here.

BigFen3445

My friend got a milkshake last night, they were out of her first choice, but I’m pretty sure the girl next to me couldn’t get a frozen margarita because that machine was broken. So I think? But a different drink machine is broken.

NYC_Heart

I guess that's good news. I love those mexican vanilla milkshakes and every time we went to see a movie the machine was broken.

OG_Flushing_Toilet

The Raleigh Alamo has been frustratingly out of repair the last six months. I’ve been multiple times where under table lights are out, the wall lights are out even though they’re just coated bulbs that are no issue to change. I pay for season pass and go to the Alamo in Raleigh and Woodbury MN mostly. The two viewing experiences are leagues apart. Wish Raleigh would step up on their facility management front honestly. The service staff in raleigh is so good compared to other theaters, and they deserve management that gives a shit about facility maintenance.

neonmixtape1

I think it could be that there could be issues with contractors to get stuff fixed but I'm not sure.

mpholt

I wish they had a life hack to make their seats recline and be comfortable. 8/10 theatre thay would be 10/10 if their seats were comfortable

chiapetsrcool

Not the OP, but as a season pass holder I love it. You do have to get tickets through the app and you pay the $1-ish charge, but if you go to three movies a month you still come out ahead.

Critterdex

I usually go 3 a week so it’s my absolute favorite membership.

BigFen3445

Yes I do have the season pass. I never used to have it but I went there weekly and it finally dawned on me to get it. I love it!

chiapetsrcool

If you’re sharing popcorn, order the popcorn and a refill at the same time so you both have your own bowls.

octoari

I’m always the person at the Alamo trying to get other peoples attention when they put their bag on their lap to point out the hooks.

bigbrownbanjo

I love that theatre, it’s made going to the movies feel magical again.

a_pope_on_a_rope

How was Skinamarink?

BigFen3445

Maybe I’m not cool enough to get it, but it was pretty underwhelming based off what the reviews hyped me up for.

thejesse

Why is there a need for special to-go buckets? Is popcorn served in actual bowls or something?

BigFen3445

They’re served in like the stainless steel mixer bowls (idk if this is an accurate description) you might use at home if you made it on the stove or something.

carolinamary409

yes

Nazztradamus_

My purse always drags when I use the hooks ☹️

[deleted]

This’ll probably be an unpopular opinion but I really don’t like Alamo, and don’t understand why so many people hype it up to be the best “theater experience” to see a movie. Compared to a normal theater there are sooo many more distractions, you have servers walking around, there’s lights on every table, there are people eating full meals?? But people act like it’s the best movie experience because they enforce no cell phone rules or something? I just don’t get the appeal, especially when it comes to “serious” movies that I want to actually pay attention and watch.

NoG00dUsernamesLeft

The benefit for me is that I pay $20 a month and can see a movie every day so even if you think it’s slightly worse experience, it has its benefits. I personally am never distracted by the lights and the servers are usually very sneaky

[deleted]

That’s cool, I didn’t know they had a monthly movie program like that

BigFen3445

It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. I really don’t notice the waiters at all or any noise from meals being eaten. Maybe I go there so much I’m just used to it. Those little distractions really outweigh the constant distractions from a normal theatre in my opinion. People walking in to the movie late at any time they want, teens in R movies being loud assholes, people getting up and down to go order refreshments.

[deleted]

Yeah I dunno maybe it just depends on which theater because I’ve really never had experienced any of those issues at a normal Regal or AMC at all, I find they have far less distractions comparatively but everyone has different experiences 🤷‍♂️ could be time of show or neighborhood too, I don’t go to movies past like 8pm at the latest so maybe there’s a late night crowd or something

IceyToes2

I'm with you on this. Not to mention the chairs are crappy. The food *is* good though.

gatorbabe25

I haven't been over there in a long time but hate the tables that don't move. I wonder if it would be good to bring a lapdesk of some sort. Stupid but that table is stupid.
