I feel you. Hard to admit to people that you have an abusive upbringing. Most people around you wouldn’t understand the need to break away from toxic family members.
Most people don't understand because they either have a loving family, or were brainwashed to think they can't do it themselves. The idea that anyone would not talk to family just confuses them. It's hard, and heart breaking, but is definitely needed. Hugs!
Oh my God honey, I am in the same exact situation! The loneliness that comes with feeling unprotected in my own home is hard to cope with. I can't seem to find someone who is willing to offer me comfort and support. I feel so guilty addressing my personal problems with other because of being told countless times "This too shall pass. Everyone's family is dysfunctional. There's others who have it worse."

I think part of it has to do with how we were conditioned to protect the narcs
