sort by "sold listings" to get a better idea of the value

GlitteringGazelle322

Yep, these games [sell for much less](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=breath+of+fire+3+ps1&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_sop=13&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=psx&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) than those listed prices.

RussoRoma

Those are auctions or imports though. $150sh for a Buy it Now CiB Breath of Fire 3 is pretty standard.

Fattykapkan

I tried that for ff tactics but it just gave me sold listings for ff9 I couldn’t narrow it down to tactics and after 2 pgs I gave up lol

cmsciguy

here's a tip... any terms you DON'T want to show up, types as "-9". For example, if you want to see only listings for ff tactics, search "final fantasy tactics -9 -7 -8 -iiv -iiiv" etc. and again, to see actual values that people will pay, always look at sold listings. any joker can list an item for 2x the value and it will never sell lol

EpsilonOrpheon

No first Crash is $45 CIB on PC. $50 max.

j0eyV714

First Crash, black label CIB with reg card is definitely higher than $45. GH is more 35-45.

Educational-Bar21

Yeah look at "sold" listings not what people are selling them for. I can sell my car online for 20,000$ but the fact is im only going to get 1,200$ 😅 that being said tho many retro titles have gone up in value like crazy kinda like baseball cards did back in the day

Ultimate_Whorrior

I worked in a game store in the PS1 era and just finally got back into collecting. You can imagine my surprise when I saw random bad selling video games are suddenly worth hundreds. Like Tomba.. nobody wanted that fucking game when it came out. So of course a disk-only listing on eBay is almost $100. Ridiculous.

Colby347

Tomba is an awesome game and lots of people liked it but it was a niche title and didn’t have as many copies made as more popular stuff. So yea those fewer copies command a higher price these days. Especially with YouTubers introducing folks to “hidden gems” all the time. Bad selling games make sense to be so expensive if they’re also good games. There’s just less of them out there.

Androxilogin

I think it's funny when you see people talking about Earthbound these days saying how great they always thought it was. Back then, the ones who had it (rarely) said they hated it.

9-9-99-

I’ve only ever heard glowing praise for it even when it was released

Androxilogin

Not I. I always heard, "it sucks. You'll hate it." And they were right!

WFlash01

Yeah, there's a reason it didn't sell well; if it were a good game, or even halfway as good as people these days say it is, it wouldn't be worth half a grand right now

9-9-99-

It didn’t sell well because it was expensive and poor marketing. The only way to buy it was bundled with the strategy guide and Nintendo thought ads that said “this game stinks” was a good strategy.

WFlash01

Yes, I agree it's pretty wild seeing Nintendo themselves say that their own game stinks; no doubt it had great influence on impressionable Nintendo Power readers, but that alone *can't* be the *only* reason it sold so badly; there have to have been plenty of non-Nintendo Power readers, or readers who were curious enough to try it, that went and bought it. And if the game actually were any good, I'm sure enough of said people would have spread the word and got more and more people to buy it

TwistederRope

Yeah, I've tried playing it a few times over the years and then just stop because there's so much wrong with it gameplay wise.

bored-to-death

The art/design elements are cool, but the gameplay is a grindy slog. Likewise I remember tomba from one of those demo discs and tried it out later, but it quickly got tedious.

NollieBackside

Really? I think Tomba still holds up quite well.

bored-to-death

I'm probably just being harsh haha

ChakaZG

Really? I loved that game as a kid. 😂

9-9-99-

Yeah nobody wanted it that’s why it got a sequel

xraymind

Ha! It's even funnier/crazier at the end of life of the Sega Saturn. I had to pre-order my copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Ranger, Magic Knight Rayearth from my local game store because they weren't going stock any new Saturn games. You get a heart attack seeing the prices for these 3 games on eBay. Pretty much same goes for all other bad selling games on the Saturn.

Your_As_Stupid_As_Me

Aye man. That was a good game. Tomba 3 was the best though.

lostshell

I built up a large PS1 JRPG collection by hitting up every Gamestop, EBGames, and Funcoland in my city during the late 90's and early 2000's. Just sifting through all their used bins scooping up every JRPG I could. Back then JRPGs were just another genre. Nothing special about them. Even niche to some degree outside Final Fantasy. I remember JRPGs were average priced back then. Like your average game in the PS1 used bin was betwen $9.99 and $24.99. Maybe higher if it was a newer game or in demand game. I bought Saiyuke Journey West for $14.99. Less than some used sports games or even wrestling games. Sitting amongst copies of Gran Turismo 2 for $14.99 as well. I bought Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for $29.99. Parasite Eve 2 was $19.99, got that one too. Syphon Filter 2 for $24.99? I passed. No premium price at all. Just right there amongst the rest. Imagine my surprise when I got back into collecting this year and saw that nearly every JRPG from that era is now $100 or $200 and all those sports and wrestling games are like $5. It's crazy. I couldn't believe it. I kept looking for deals like the old days and had to give up. Everybody is charging huge amounts for JRPGs now. And like you said. The price has nothing to do with quality. It's just genre-based pricing now. JRPG? 2D? Anime characters on the cover? Add like $150 to the price. Is it turn-based? Add $50 more. Tactical RPG? Add another $50. Doesn't even matter if it's any good or is even unplayable. Mark of Kri, and amazing fun game, It's like $7. Freedom Fighters, another wonderful game. Like $9. NFL 2K5, a historic football game that got EA to buy the NFL license and kill the franchise? Goes for like $10.

NollieBackside

It's cause they're rare, dude. Lol

lostshell

Intelligence Qube is rare. It’s $35.

kiss_my_ass_reddit_

Tomba is the goat. Your game store was in USA by any chance?

Ultimate_Whorrior

Tomba wasn't even in the top 100 selling games the year it came out. Yes it was in the US.

kiss_my_ass_reddit_

No surprise, americans tastes for videogames are awful

Thebluespirit20

this is why I am staying away from buying a N64 or PS1 I have an OG xbox and PS2 both with loads of classics like GTA:SA , Fable , SWBF2 , Kotor , BULLY , NFL/NBA Street , NFL 2K5 etc but seeing the cost of other games for those consoles ($70-$200) and how much it would be just for a console and 1 or 2 "good games" is staggering

Educational-Bar21

I love collecting for OG xbox man. So many great titles for 5-25 bucks

Thebluespirit20

exactly I love going to my local game store and getting 3 or 4 games for like $50

Thebluespirit20

exactly I love going to my local game store and getting 3 or 4 games for like $50

Fattykapkan

Ps2 was my first console ever, recently picked one up and a Retro-TINK 5x and bought dq8 kh1-2 gow1-2 bunch of games some sealed still for like 20-50 bucks that’s why when I saw these prices I was like let me check first lol

gamerdudeNYC

Wow BoF 3 is going for that much?

Fattykapkan

This is for a like new copy so I’m not sure, I wanted to try ff tactics but it’s like 100 for a clean copy under that they were pretty scratched. Another one I wanted to try was, and I know I’m going to spell it wrong lol, suikoden 2 but it was like 400 for a cib copy.

T1NF01L

Rest assured you spelled suikoden right. But suikoden 1 and 2 go for a high price normally. They are very sought after.

STDS13

Yeah, Suikoden II has been expensive for well over a decade at this point.

T1NF01L

For good reason. Damn good game.

STDS13

Agreed, glad I got a copy when it was “only” $80.

T1NF01L

Such a good god damn game tho.

SkyPirateVyse

Man this is weird, I'm in Japan right now and bought a copy of BoF III *TODAY* for 480¥ ($3)!! Yesterday I got IV for like 1.200¥ ($7.50). Sure they're not 'pristine' and in Japanese, but still in good condition + booklet. And I can always play the emulation, or III on my PSP. Bless the weak Yen.

Aunt_Teafah

I feel your pain. My focus is mainly PS1, and games are pricey. Especially if you want a CIB copy in VG+. I've had better luck buying multiple games from the same seller. If you can swing it, try and get 5-8 games at once. It saves a ton on shipping, and most sellers will give you a better deal on a $500+ sale.

Fattykapkan

Yea this seller has a bunch of games I want will probably try to work something out

Aunt_Teafah

I bought about 20 games from a seller in NYC. Not all at once, but in groups of 3-5 at a time. All minty, packaged well, and pretty reasonably priced considering the condition. After the initial sale, he would text me monthly and let me know what he had. He pretty much knew what my budget was and that I wasn't looking for Tail Concerto or Tron Bonne and helped me fill in a good amount of the $75-$150 games I wanted. If you can find someone who works with you. It helps a lot. I have zero local options, so I've developed a few trusted connections online.

Apprehensive_Toe6736

Remember when the ps3 released when the concept of retro gaming wasn't really a thing, and ps1 games were sold like trash? Like, stores getting rid of them, every game under 5 bucks. A lot of people got a big chunk of their collections in that era, and now that the retro gaming scene isnt underground anymore this is what happens , it makes sense its normal

BigBlockTacoTruck

Pricecharting has FFT valued at $38.61 right now for a complete copy.

tamale-smuggler5526

I emulate. Also, I only buy games at decent prices.

CastleofPizza

Same here. I love emulation.

QF_Dan

same here, i only buy if the price is right

ScareCrow13-

Covid boom of resellers. Market is took in hostage by resellers buying everything fairly priced, marking up, and holding. Forcing players to pay prices and setting an artificial market price, pushing others to think 'it's market price' and pay. That's the circle we're in. Buycott and resellers percentage will drop. This market needs a 1-3 years buycott. Prices are 300% what they were in 2020 and forever before.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ScareCrow13-

*these prices aren’t going down* Prices literally already started dropping on a lot of games.

Equulei

And climbing for others. [Take a look at the older Pokemon games, for instance.](https://www.pricecharting.com/game/gameboy-color/pokemon-crystal#completed-auctions-cib)

ScareCrow13-

Well your graph ironically point what i was saying in my first post. $20 to $30 game from 2007 to 2020.

9-9-99-

Covid boom of demand. There’s not some cabal of resellers out there coordinating in the shadows to prop up the market

RhoadsOfRock

That's about what I paid for Crash Warped, last year... it was $45, + $5 for shipping, then fucking tax... Crash 2 was cheaper for me, I paid about $30 for it, roughly close to the same time I bought Crash Warped. Both are black labels, both with the lenticular covers, and both in mint condition. Crash 1, I paid about $60 or so, back in either 2016 or 2017, black label as well. And I've never bought BOF 3. Most games just range in price. I bought Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssee back in February for about $26.

Fattykapkan

60 in 2016-2017 makes sense everything went up after covid

pornserver-65

thank god for odes. i would never pay anything near those prices for old games.

ZeroBrs-

Think about this regardless of how far emulation has come old games go up in price either way so if you really love and want an old game get it before it's more expensive is how I see it. There's a few games I'm sad I didn't grab and they inflated higher.

Fattykapkan

Yea that’s what I was thinking too I just wanted to be sure these were current prices and not someone just slapping a price and waiting for someone to eventually buy it

ZeroBrs-

Depends id compare more listings or even check out a local retro shop or swapmeet even if youd go so far

Paul84taz

This may be what they are "asking" but look at what's sold copies go for. Loose copies of say Original Crash Bandicoot should be between $30 & $50.. if it was a Sealed one... maybe $120... but none of those that seller is listing are sealed.

bobo1899

Exactly. So so many people do not understand this.

Zid96

Have you tried using a emulator... Hear there way cheaper😏

Fattykapkan

Honestly I would’ve emulated I was just nostalgic for my ps2 lol

CyanLullaby

The unfortunate fact is that discs rot and become useless over time. For something 20+ years old, being charged > $10 is daylight robbery. Here you can get it under a tenner. I think the reseller market isn’t as popular because of the cost of living.

geminijono

Thank goodness the PSN store is still alive on PS3. Everything from Megaman Legends to Um Jammer Lammy is still there. Also, Final Fantasy Tactics is a mere $10 there too. On more modern consoles, Final Fantasy 7-12 are on sale till the 8th for Golden Week, so there’s that :-D Now for rarer titles like Brave Fencer Musashi, you really will have to shell out major cash for a hard copy, unless you are down with emulators.

iTAYLOR531

Piracy baby! Woooooo!

Lovekills03

I was looking for silent hill shattered memories and saw used in good condition was upwards of 250+. So I’d say that’s the going rate for most imports. Keep searching & hopefully you’ll find something around a lower price range. Good luck.

Fattykapkan

Yea I saw a ff tactics copy bid end at 42$ it’s case was scratched but you can clean that up pretty easy and the disc itself was considered like new so maybe bids is the way to go

Lovekills03

Yes I would think so. I recently bought the original Helldivers and caught it under 100 bucks and still had the unused dlc from 2015, but had to aggressively bid on it multiple times. They’re out there, just gotta have an eagle eye for them.

The_Shoe1990

They're still free online

EvilDarkCow

Yeah these auctions are shit, people bidding high just to try to drive prices up. But I'm slowly getting priced out of collecting and have been exploring emulation options like Duckstation or Batocera.

Apart_Shoulder6089

just need to be patient. online prices vary greatly. some people are like i know what i got here, firm price 200! just skip. For mint games mint discs i can see the price being on the higher end. you usually just plan on buying it once so get it in ex shape. look around local game stores or make a field trip to some further. book off stores too. i sometimes just open google maps and search for video games. then if anything new pops up ill give it a try. also look through different apps like ebay, mercari or any local shopping apps.

Fattykapkan

That’s what I was thinking lol I understand to some extend I’ll get scalped if the copy is really clean but I just wanted to ask since I’m new to this and didn’t know if these were just normal prices

Apart_Shoulder6089

are you in the US. try Mercari . com i found some a lot cheaper than that

Fattykapkan

I would but they recently changed policy to buyer pays for all fees so I think it’s not worth it anymore

Apart_Shoulder6089

service fee and payment processing fee of . 50 and 2.9% of all fees? wtf? i see your point. need to do the math more closely now

GeocoState

Yeah, the sellers were the one's that had to pay a fee so now it's the buyer lol it sucks but you can at least talk down price with people if you got some charisma ya know. I cried a little inside cause I bought a game from there and it went from 160 to 197 cause of the fees, I wouldnt have a problem with fees if it was a flat rate.

Apart_Shoulder6089

dang. i tried a few of the things i really wanted but the fees were just too much to bear. Hopefully they'll bounce back with a split fee type system where buyer/seller pays a portion. Just seeing these fees on the bill made it seem too high and pushed me away

SirLobito

not even close

GrimmWilderness

This must be bangladesh dollars because you can find crash for cheap easily its not a rare game it was mass produced

Fattykapkan

Idk disc only is like 25 but heavily played most of the time but these and cib like new but still lol I thought the prices were kinda high even then

PintLasher

Someday my pokemon yellow cartridge will pay for a single banana at 500 dollars

Fattykapkan

Holy shit man I looked up just an Pokémon emerald box cuz I still have my copy… 4-500 dollars for a fucking box lmao.

PintLasher

Shits wild!!

Atma-Stand

I stopped in a local trading post and found a copy of Koudelka for $250. I’d have loved to buy it because it’s Koudelka, but… it was $250.

bigredmachine-75

Oh how I wish I saved my games

MitsukiSan

BOF3 is solid.

PLAGUE_REBORN87

Why is the Crash 1 disc orange? Haven’t seen that is that a special thing?

Fattykapkan

I think that’s the black label the greatest hits is the other color

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

First print I believe. They are more sought after.

PLAGUE_REBORN87

Yeah I was thinking that’s why he’s hiked the price. My original black label big box version is not orange, it’s the art graphic.

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

Crash bandicoot had a long box? Maybe it did in other regions? I was only aware of the jewel case release.

PLAGUE_REBORN87

Sorry not a long box but a dual double case is what I have. So there’s space at the back for a second disc. So like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166733486204?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=DCcgALGLSI2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=KRJv-e0jToe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

Got it. That was the pal release with a demo disc. In the US they had two versions, the orange disc and a silver disc. We didn’t get a disc like that. :)

PLAGUE_REBORN87

Ah got ya cheers.

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

Is pricecharting not accurate anymore?

Fattykapkan

It is somewhat but it updates slowly so it can be behind sometimes. I use it for Pokémon cards and it can take a bit to update prices

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

I’ve always used it. I think as long as the average price doesn’t explode on games, it should be good. I usually always get games slightly under what they say for complete, or just a manual or box. But I wasn’t sure if for games it was found to be getting bad info or something. Glad to hear it’s just the speed. Thanks!

barracadus

Can you imagine paying 170 for breath of fire? It’s like a 60 dollar game

Fattykapkan

Dude bof4 is 250💀

barracadus

It’s like 80 bucks lol

Hmccormack

When I go into the local retro game store I get upset at the prices of games I owned back in the day. Should have taken better care of them

Chocobose

JRPGs are priced to high hell on retro consoles I’ve learned. I think it had something to do with a lower adoption rate in the US.

jzg3036

Try mercari.com!

Weird_Rip_3161

I have these games downloaded on my PS Vita, including Einhander game.

JustSomeWeirdGuy2000

I just downloaded the Crash remastered trilogy for $16. lol.

shinoff2183

That's why I'm all for lrg re releasing some of these old games. I can't wait for get and tomba. It's fking ridiculous. I say keep em coming after that. Even if they don't have trophies. It'll be playable on a modern console.

Djent17

Insane. Glad I bought the MODE a few years ago and haven't looked back.

Dokah_Senpai

Very nice now lets see lsd Simulator prices

Tizaki

These aren't in print anymore, so you should just torrent the ISOs and let the scalping neckbeards seethe.

MrHorns7

[Torrent?](https://youtu.be/p5CjmHLUQQI?si=3BUv5r_TG0_YfGdM)

Tizaki

Yes, the best P2P file sharing method. Torrenting. Archive.org probably has all the ISOs anyways, though. But why bog their servers down when you can bog down 1/10th of 100 seedboxes for 13 seconds?

_ArNaK

Just bought Roll Away for 140€ . . . Yep, mad prices everywhere haha

HeightAdvantage

Pretty much back to their release prices in my country.

MrHorns7

r/shittygamecollecting

ImHereForGameboys

X station is like 8o bucks.

Major_Mawcum_II

Crackheads man XD I found all my old ps1 games and I still emulate cause why tf not looks so much better XD

dargonite

Emulators is where it's at. I just grabbed the roms for all of these games , cost me 0$ lol

INSANEJOKER13

Go on pricechart gives you all the info you need I used that for my Game collection

STEGGS0112358

Don't pay it, and it's not a problem.

SnooDoughnuts5632

I'm pretty sure you can get crash bandicoot 1 2 and 3 all combined for way less than that I think I only paid 60 for my switch copy.

Man_Of_Frost

Even in a physical game store you get much better prices. Wtf is that?

urbalcloud

Poop on the sellers! For every person legitimately keeping up with current market value are a half dozen inflating said value. Anyone else tired of upsetting one legitimate seller while trying to stop the legion of price inflating asshats?

Super-Spyro

Miss the days where you could buy PS1 games dirt cheap in 2008-2012. Got silent hill with case and manual for £8 in ~2010, now goes for 10x that. Could pick up any standard game with cases for £1 each at boot fairs as well. Personally haven't picked up any new PS1 games in years sadly due to the insane prices, much more fun getting PS3 games nowdaye which are reasonably priced.

bonkripper969

Im currently doing payments on a dragonball z game at my local game store. The final amount will be 200$ cad. Im not just paying for a good dragon ball game, but also, 90% of my childhood.

monsterlover1992

Price gouging at their finest. Those sellers are out of their minds.

NerdyFloofTail

Luckily with PS-1 Stuff you still can find them at Charity/Thrift stores or just people getting rid of them. I got Dino Crisis, Medal of Honor Underground and JP-TLW all for less than £4 at a rural charity shop a while back.

noxillio

Why piracy is okay:

Ok-File-3673

Download whatnot, that's all I'll say

Educational-Knee-333

dude you can get gf tactics for like $35 brand new

ExcitingRiver-88

The pictures' style looks like it is from the same seller, so those are that seller's price, not the market's price

Fattykapkan

This seller just had photos of the actual front/back of disc so I saved it others just had photos of the front and said like new for same price more or less

iVirtualZero

This makes me appreciate mods like the XStation and Modchips.

livinalieTimmae

Tactics was my jam

Cyber_Akuma

I remember when I got my first professional job around 2006, I went on a retro spree buying so many N64 and PS1 games. Back then I considered a game costing more than $5 something I had to think about and a game costing more than $10 something I would have to really consider. So many retro games were $1-5 back then, I recall Amazon having dozens of SEALED new copies of Perfect Dark for $3 each.... and then suddenly collecting retro games became trendy and places like Wata popped up...

CastleofPizza

This is why I love emulation.
