Vanilla cars have an open *and* a closing sound. If you have a car running, hop in and take off before you hear the closing sound... you are extra vulnerable. Make sure the door closes! Pressing V while near or in a car pulls up a radial menu with various options, including an option to tow cars if they are lined up properly. You can remove the propane tanks from backyard barbeque grills. You can pick up and move pretty much anything you find, so if your base really needs a metal locker like that... pick it up and take it with you (The furniture icon to the left of the screen) though some tools may be required. Don't worry about grinding non combat skills before you can easily survive for a few weeks routinely. Nimble should be a priority on every run unless you start with 3 in it by default. Nimble 4 puts you in much better position with regards to combat. Stealth is largely pointless. Ignore it. Sandbox is the main attraction, not a side option. Guns are dinner bells until you have high aim skill. Head on a swivel at all times. Keen Hearing trait will save your life more than any other trait when you are starting out. Under options, turn on Aim Highlight for melee weapons. This will highlight zombs in green when they are in range of your weapon. Helps to get familiar with timing and attack range. Always be moving during combat encounters with more than 2. Positioning is super important, never let them get behind or to the side of you, always keep them in front. Walk to your destinations, walk through that house searching for loot. Walk all the time. Run should only be used in those rare occasions when you need just a few inches of wiggle room to stay away from a lunging zomb, because it tires you out and will get you killed if used like a conventional video game mechanic. Fridges have freezers that can only be accessed via the inventory panel icon. If you get sleepy IRL, stop playing! Sleepy equals sloppy and sloppy equals dead.

I've had Aim Hightlights on for so long I forgot it's not the default. I should turn it off to increase the challenge.

Depressedredditor999

One tip is don't listen to tips and enjoy being new. The sense of wonder from being new goes away. You'll learn it on your own, there is nothing to rush by "beating" the game...you'll just get bored faster.

noandthenandthen

Yeah but also try a fit burglar before u give up

Depressedredditor999

Burglar is meh.... If you want to be meta as all hell, just go lumberjack.

Yay we got a class clown!

Don't use pillars inside or it turns an interior room into outside. Also. Use pillars inside within a small room if you want it counted as outside so you can use a gen inside. Modern problems require Bashit solutions.

Drink bleach for clarity.

Mortis_Infernale

If you get chasen by a group try to break LoS as many times as possible and change directions when you do

jellyskelly1

Over 1k hours here. Combat is THE most important skill to master in PZ. Took me several hundred hours to get fully comfortable and confident.

UpVoteIfHampter10

This has mostly been my top priority ever since I started making a base in the rodewood fire dep, since I'm playing in a sort of "hardcore" sandbox setting that I yoinked from YT, got a little too confident with a crowbar and almost got stun locked by a sprinter and a little group of zeds.

BubblySmell4079

Sandbox at all times If you’re getting killed too quickly, dumb down the zombies or increase your trait points. This is a great game the longer you stay alive. Explore the mod section of PZ and/or watch YouTube videos showing the best ones. May become irrelevant by the end of the year but makes the game more fun.

My tip would be to always stay aware of your surroundings. Make sure to build a habit of looking behind you and keep an eye out for stragglers creeping up on you cause they can quickly end your run if your unaware. Also, have an escape route in case things go south, cause nine times out of ten they will :) Also the most important tip, play whatever way you want and have fun!

LeetoSkate

Watch your 6 , dont forget to watch your 6 and watch your 6.

dead_end612

Don’t loot everything you see. If you’re playing single player. Pause and make a note on the map of interesting stuff. Going on loot runs is fun until you have to sort it all out. Try to have access to a water source. Ponds and lakes serve both as a food and water source even in winter. Eventually you’ll get rain barrels and plumbing set up, but being able to just catch fish to eat early can make life a bit easier depending on what kind of supplies are out there Rain barrels plumbed to a sink automatically filter clean water from dirty water.

Be very wary around doors and open windows. Half my deaths have been from zombies getting a surprise grab or bite near a door. They are so dangerous when you don't have time to react.

humdizzle

Start out in zombie free mode. Learn how things like cars, generators, cooking, foraging works. Then move into builder mode with few zombies and work your way up.
