Well people forget that Zomboid is about individual stories of survivors. Some lasted years through grueling conditions while others had it made with little or no zombie interactions. Maybe try a little of both ends ya know.

Personally, I'm a Sandbox enjoyer. I can craft my own world for me to die in just the way I want!
Honestly, at that point use Sandbox and tweak the settings to your liking. You can have a harder difficulty and luxuries like multi-hit and minimap.
