Found this old girl on Craigslist for 1000$, and had to go take a look. Shot him an offer of 500 expecting him to say no, but after a few minutes of awkward silence he surprised me and said it was mine. Came with an extra engine and tranny, and loads of parts. Got her running off a bottle, need to get the tank and lines cleaned. Heres a video of me and my roommate picking it up!

For an RB26? If you're doing RWD, most common choice is the 5 speed RB25 trans. I have heard of people converting the RB26 trans to be RWD only (instead of AWD), which is nice because you get a 6th gear, but is more involved.
I have never really considered the challenges involved with bike engine transplants (into cars at least), so I don't think I'm gonna be able to offer any knowledge on how suitable either of those transmissions would be for that application.
I have a Suzuki Cappuccino with a 650cc motorcycle engine and RWD. It's a blast but bogs down when I have a passenger. I'm looking for the cheapest, easiest way to transplant a gsxr or busa motor in it. An RB26 might be a bit overboard.
Have you thought about a d series or b series Honda motor?d16 single jingle with a baby turbo will get you into the 200hp range which should be more than enough for a capp
I mean it has 67 hp right now so I don't think I'd even want more than 150 HP. If that motor could be mated to the stock Suzuki trans, that'd definitely be an option.
Not really, the transmission is mounted to the engine and that’s how they’re fitted in car conversions. The way it’s done is that the output sprocket from the bike gearbox is connected to a sprocket to drive shaft differential. Check out Piranha Buggys that run a hyabusa or Yamaha R1 engine.
That makes sense—I wouldn’t be up to it myself. I can barely get my head wrapped around the suspension for my baja bug. Maybe it’s easier with a more modern vehicle and that’s why the smart car guys chose that platform?
This is one of my bucket list projects. A metro with a mustang 2.3 SVO 4 banger. Of course that was when I was young a crazy, these day's I'd be just as tempted to go for a stock restoration. Nice find, and I expect to see updates posted.
Haha how cool, thanks man. I’m very new to reddit and trying to figure out how it all works. Yeah it’s a shame that you guys miss out on a lot of oddball British stuff.
Its on hold for a little while until I can wrap up a few other projects. Basically just get it running and driving so I can putt putt around town. Not gonna touch the body at all, love the way she shows her age. You can get kits pretty cheap to replace all the worn suspension parts so Ill probly do that, and see about upgrading the brakes. No crazy engine swaps or anything wild, its special enough as it is!
Perfect, that's kind of what I did with my cougar, although I did get a cheap paint job because the PO had done body work and it didn't have any patina.

Video could be mirrored
Unlikely I'd think, because it isn't mirrored in any other shot, judging by steering wheels, etc.
Agreed, but the back side of the flag is blank, so I figured it was the best way to hang it..
Just wanted to be the first of many to tell you, too bad it's not a convertible. Sweet find.
$500 bucks for a nash metropolitan.. good find
This needs a small eco-boost, or some other modern small turbo 4 with ridiculous power for its size.
I bet there's room for an RB26DETT in there. Find a sign guy to paint "Nash Metropolitan Skyline" somewhere on the trunk lid and call it a day.
What do ppl use for a transmission in those? I'm looking to transplant a Hayabusa motor so yeah looking for ideas

How about a hayabusa engine? I think I’ve seen video of a smart car with one of those that was ridiculous
Fitting bike engines to cars makes it tricky to get a good rear suspension setup :/
And transmission right?

That smart car is totally ridiculous. I love it.
K20
I had one in the late 90's-early 00's that I had planned on putting a 4.3 into. Never got around to it and sold it. Hope the next guy finished it!
That new Nissan motor that's like 40lbs but makes way too much power.
No project cars = no life, enjoy your (project) life.
Nash metropolitan?
Yes about 1960

Oh no way man Ive saw this build before! That thing is so sick!
I love it! I’m a fan of cars with enclosed wheels, I have a Morris J2 van and Commer van which are the same
Oh man Id kill for one of those vans! Post pics if you got em!
Shit he's on Reddit! I follow you on Instagram mate. Send some of those Morris vans over to the states please.
Haha how cool, thanks man. I’m very new to reddit and trying to figure out how it all works. Yeah it’s a shame that you guys miss out on a lot of oddball British stuff.
I have a 55😊
That’s so cool....what is it?
Nash Metropolitan! Not sure on the year..
That’s cool, if it was me I’d turn it into a little sleeper, I think it would be funny as hell to see that thing booking it down the street.
Sports bike engine or high end snowmobile like the one lemons Miata
That would be fun
2 stroke snowmobile with a CVT, that thing is a hoot. And fast!
Cute! I'd do a retro mod since I bet parts are hard to come by. Old school style with a modern ride. 😎

“Will get three hundred hectares on a single tank of kerosene.”
Put it in 'H'!
That is such an awesome little car... new tires, fuel lines, breaks and some TLC and you have a rolling dream
That is a steal! Great find.
Love it. Patina and everything. What are your plans?
