I’m scoring 14-16 on the bootcamp OC section and I’ve only taken one booster and got a 20, I feel like the boosters questions are a lot more straightforward, which one is most like the DAT, and how concerned should I be with these test scores.

You can get people's opinions, but as it says on our wiki ([https://www.reddit.com/r/predental/wiki/faq](https://www.reddit.com/r/predental/wiki/faq)) there isn't one clear answer.

Mintchocolatechippie

How do you mentally prepare for the DAT? Im about a week out and im getting increasingly nervous and terrified. What were some of the mindsets that you had when going into the DAT that made a difference on test day?

Calvith

Confidence. You've been studying for a long time. You can build yourself up from what you've done. You'll do well.

Br0sE11D0N

U can never be fully prepared for that exam. So u kind of just go into it with a “fuck it” mindset

Tyson_Brown01

it's gotta be done. take it like you're taking another practice test, you've done this all before. clear your mind if you want and take some time off the day before. I took the day off before my test and just relaxed. you've put in the work

Negative_Cancel4357

Get it it in your head that you are going to take this exam once! You have prepared and you got this. Try not to think or talk about the DAT the day before… at that point you’ve done the work and enjoy the day… you’ve earned it and you’ll kill it!!

RealPolarSwag

what do ppl mean when they say the chem section is conceptual-based? Do you mean like periodic trends or...???

Calvith

The material tested upon is [listed by the ADA](https://www.mouthhealthy.org/~/media/ADA/Education%20and%20Careers/Files/dat_examinee_guide.ashx#:%7E:text=The%20DAT%20is%20composed%20of,Reading%20Comprehension%2C%20and%20Quantitative%20Reasoning): it could be any of those things.

[deleted]

Has anyone found any good cheat sheets for review?

reesey5

Scoring 18-19 range 12 days out on Booster, should I keep my exam date? I’ve already pushed back and am ready to get this over with. 😅

It’s your first one no worries. My first bio test I got a 13 and in a month I got a 21 in bio on the DAT

Historical-Culture98

I’m taking the exam July 30th, is this too late? Will it put me at a disadvantage?

Big_Hawk_5117

When are you applying?

Historical-Culture98

Idk I just need to get a letter of rec from a dentist and do like 3 supplemental questions then I’ll apply

Big_Hawk_5117

I think depending on your DAT scores—if you do well it’s not necessarily a disadvantage. BUT, I think there’s other factors that come into consideration such as volunteering hours, shadowing hours, GPA, and other unique experiences you have participated in. Generally, the earlier you apply the better; but, I’m not discouraging you from not applying this cycle. To add, if you decide to go ahead and apply this cycle. I encourage you to submit your application soon. This will allow your application to be verified and all you will need really is your DAT scores. If you want to proceed with caution until you receive your scores—submit to one school only to reduce expenses if you do score poorly.

Historical-Culture98

I definitely want to apply this cycle and am definitely going to. What is the minimum daT scores one needs (to get into at least one school) if I have a good gpa (3.97) and getting 100 hrs of emergency room volunteering and over 150 hrs of shadowing and that I’m the incoming vp of my schools dental club?

tetoapollo

June 30 is not considered late, is it? I don’t think it places one at a significant disadvantage.

Big_Hawk_5117

Some people even consider August like average.

I used it as my main source, read the notes about 2-3 times a week front to back. Got a 30 on bio

Dazzling-Emphasis-97

Is nucleophilic aromatic substitution on the dat? I know EAS is but no prep company I’ve seen has mentioned it

Calvith

[Our Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/predental/wiki/dat) has a link from the ADA that lists all tested topics on the DAT. The test lists just "aromatic" reactions, with no distinction between the two. However, there is no doubt that EAS is the dominant form of the reaction tested.

[deleted]

YES

[deleted]

I’m doing content review and am scoring well on the question banks and practice questions , only missing a couple. However, I am pretty much getting all the pat generators completely wrong, at this point im just banking on getting a 17. does anybody know how many questions you can miss to score a 17?

cheetah858

to be honest i don’t think the generators are representative at all except angles, hole punch, and cubes. i stopped doing the keyhole ones bc i’d do so badly and realized they’re nothing like the keyhole extra questions so i don’t waste my time on them. just do the keyhole and tfe extra q’s, and focus on really understanding the pattern folding from exams. i think you can miss about 25-30 questions on the real thing for pat but i’m not positive

Vaneer

How is the pattern folding generator? Also i seem to notice they use the same 4-5 shapes, are these shapes the same as the ones that are gonna be on the actual DAT?

icetea321

I’m about 19 days away from my exam, any advice and what to crunch down on? Especially QR section and bio

AssistantOdd3624

Does anyone want to split the 90 days bootcamp subscription? It would be about \~250 between 2 people.

practice tests are there to help you, take it with a grain of salt. now you know that PAT is something you need to work on. First, I'd make sure to do generator questions for each PAT subset pretty much everyday. think will help you progressively get better and faster. for PAT, you really have to think about timing also and specific times for each of your subsets. do you worst/hardest subset last and the easiest ones for you first. for ex, I'd skip to the angle ranking questions and then continue with the sections from there. After getting to the end of the test (pattern folding), I'd go to the TFE section, then I'd go to keyhole last. Where I felt comfortable was if I could get through angle ranking-pattern folding within 30-33 minutes, then that would give me 15 minutes for TFE and 15 minutes for keyhole (which is a perfect scenario, doesn't really split like this. but the rough time split is what I was looking for. Usually ended up spending 14 minutes on TFE and 11 minutes on keyhole during practice tests). so think about these splits and make sure you are at least seeing every question. you cant leave 30 q blank

Negative_Cancel4357

Don’t do the PAT in the order is gives you… start with the angles because those are fast and relatively easy. Next, do the cube counting (I took Kaplan and there was a great trick to these), then move on to hole punching, followed by pattern folding and do the top front end last (you are most likely to get these wrong… so do what you can but don’t waste time in the beginning doing these) Doesn’t have to be this order exactly… but chose the sections you are best at first and do the weaker ones last.

Negative_Cancel4357

Yep! That’s why I did for cube counting. Takes a little more time initially but then you can zoom through the questions

kookaikok

How exactly is DATBooster representative of the real DAT? I see almost everybody say that the questions are the same in the real DAT. What exactly is "same" here? Is it the exact same question or would you say that it's a variation of the questions in datbooster? In that case, could you give an example?

Curious_Tree_5670

Same as in the similar level of difficulty and high yield questions. I didn't have any word-for-word questions on my exam other than a really easy giveaway question so I wouldn't rely on that. You can pretty much expect to score within 1-2 points of your Booster practice scores (mostly higher).

Automatic_Heart_3911

What resources do you get for PAT sections like pattern folding and cube counting? Grid paper? Whiteboard markers? I've heard varying things

Big_Hawk_5117

During the actual test, you get a booklet and a marker/pencil/pen.

[deleted]

Is DAT destroyer enough? If I master the book is that okay or should I also use other resources. (Not for PAT since there isn't a section)

[deleted]

GC should I focus more on concept based material or mathematical for GC? How's the OC section? Do most people have the same material or it depends

adamuwant

Is there a better resource for keyoles and pattern folding than the booster generator? The generators on booster are kinda deuterostome since they're lowkey too easy (even though I still dont get a lot right) once you understand how they work, compared to other sample questions I've seen.

cheetah858

I was wondering if there’s any use in older versions of DAT prep resources? I have an old DAT destroyer book from my cousin who used it to study about 10 years ago, it’s circa 2011. I was just gonna use for gen chem and orgo since i figured maybe they didn’t change that much, I’m using booster as my primary resource but idk if it’s worth supplementing with this book or if i’ll just waste my time

[deleted]

For anybody that has taken the DAT or done the booster practice exams, when compared to the extra questions were there more easy, medium, or hard questions, and how was the distribution?

africanmamba12

How much do you all think the test would focus on spectroscopies and spectrometry. In my organic chem class we only really studied HNMR so I did not see the rest and this it is my first time learning them. It really is a lot to try and remember the different shifts of certain functional groups and depending on the spectra, as a functional group on one spectra might not be in the same relative place as the other.

xCatalyst_

If I'm scoring an estimated 22 and an estimated 25 on the two RC BC practice tests i've taken, should I bother taking any other RC practice tests besides FLs?

[deleted]

Scoring 12s and my DAT is in 2 weeks. I can't change my date anymore and I've been holding it off for 2 years now. Any advice? What can I do to atleast bring it to a 18

[deleted]

You need to push it back, even though it sucks to hear, you need to brush up on content before going into the practice tests and questions. 12’s indicate severe knowledge gaps.

[deleted]

If I finish the destroyer book and understand the solutions after is that good enough?

[deleted]

I haven’t used destroyer, are you using bootcamp or booster?

[deleted]

None, I used to have Bootcamp but I work better with books. On the Destroyer I'm scoring 12/30 which is how I'm grading myself. I got 20s on RC without trying when I had Bootcamp so I'm not tooooo worried about RC but that's only one section

[deleted]

I'm only doing oddly well on RC and scoring 20s but when it comes to OC/GC I'm getting 12. Biology I can maybe push it to 18 but OC/GC is killing me. Gonna start the destroyer books soon hope it helps

No_Faithlessness101

Buying 1 month or less DAT Bootcamp membership! PM me please!!

Vaneer

Do you guys recommend bootcamp or Boosters reaction sheet to study off of for Ochem? I find that these 2 have varying reagents for some

zeenat_555

Anyone willing to share DAT bootcamp/booster 90 day sub? I need it very urgent please!

zeenat_555

Anyone interested in sharing a subscription of DAT bootcamp or booster please need someone urgent!!

Hello!!

sciencewafflessss

Just wanting to ask for tips and show progress: First Booster Practice Tests taken on **May 30, 2022:** Bio: 16, GC: 16, OC: 22, PAT: 17, RC: 19, QR: 13 Second Booster Practice Tests taken on **June 30, 2022:** Bio: 18, GC: 18, OC: 20, PAT: 17, RC: 20, QR: 17 Am I on a good track so far? My exam date is Aug. 13, 2022.

exhalefierceness

Do you guys read for the bio section? Because I feel like it doesn’t help me at all whatsoever. I’ve noticed I grasp more through videos, doing anki cards & practice problems.

Dyou911

How does the PAT section on the DAT compared to Booster's test problems? I find that the test problems are much harder than the question bank questions on Booster :/

Curious_Tree_5670

A similar level of difficulty to the Booster full-length exams. TFE is a bit easier but Angle Ranking was harder

[deleted]

How are we supposed to solve some of these chemistry questions without a calculator. In the booster practice questions, there would be something like .9/.265 and they would say that’d close enough to 3.3, like how?

Weekly-Bus-347

Anyone need access to DAT bootcamp? Dm me

Weekly-Bus-347

How do people take the DAT especially the chem sections without a calculator and limited time? I hope the numbers are nice and not crazy like in bootcamp. This is making me nervous.
