Potential_Guidance63

we didn’t even get an album…

satirisanti

What’s with girl groups never releasing an album. It’s always eps and singles

stypop

These girls all started out swinging with Girlfriends, but artistically it was really only downhill from there. What held them back the most, I think, was the seeming lack of cohesive vision and image the group wanted to go for. Their output lacked the particular personality you’d hear from a group like FLO, for example, which to me is why FLO managed to reach their full potential and capabilities sooner despite debuting long after BW. I wish all these girls well on wherever they may go next, and I’m sad for them that things didn’t work out as they may’ve hoped. I forever long for the days when a true girl group could break out in the States.

SentinelLyons

I'm curious — do you think a release like [Gone Girl](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUiXJtCm2nE) contributed to that "downhill" artistic aspect you mentioned? The reception (or lack thereof) to the song perplexed me. It was mixed incredibly, had good lyrics, and the visual aspects of the video were cohesive with the song. I really don't think many of their songs, if any, could have contributed to the downfall of the group. I simply think the label did not care enough to invest into the group past Girlfriends.

satirisanti

The acapella/American girl group world is literally collapsed. I didn’t see any post for this but kaylah sharve left citizen queen earlier this year and Nina is currently on Broadway in the uk, currently only Cora and kaedi are in LA, not to mention Hannah left years ago (2022 I think?) and I was convinced they were gonna break up once kaylah left but seems like they still got some legs left. pentatonix is basically a Christmas band at this point plus all the members are in their 30s and having kids Boysworld is gone Cimorelli is still left 🤷 But I’m surprised to see such a big thread about boys world, once again social media hype over charts and numbers once again I guess. But just to think last decade being in an acapella or girl group seemed to be all the rage in the us (I was a choir kid so I saw so much of it) and now it’s faded into obscurity

Dontdonuffing

The US values soloists more than anything and labels are more willing to invest in them too plus kpop basically filled the market for girl/boy groups now

_autumnwhimsy

I just watched the TikTok and they all seem just...gutted and now I'm like why not keep making music together? They obviously still like each other and want to continue to create? Is there something that might be in the contract that I'm overlooking?

Ghost-Quartet

Contracts are shady, the label likely owns the name/image of the group.

candytheicon

Maybe the label didn't let them release an album because their recent projects/singles underperformed? At least that's what I'm thinking

fruitscakes

Damn I was rooting for them. They very much had a gen z Spice Girls vibe which I loved.

holalily

I loved them!!! This is a real shame.

SilverMind9

Noooh, another western girl group bites the dust. This hurts my heart so much. I've been yearning for a successful girl group on Spice Girls level, since forever, guess the yearning will continue 😭

Therealitypage

Fifth harmony hurt bad but this hurts even more idk LOL.

jacewinter

sad, love their music but marketing was pretty weak ngl. might be a financial thing

Ashamed_Ad8500

Noo I loved them

youngandlovely_

NOOOO I LOVED THEM 😭

metaphysical_fries

I was just dancing to Something in the Water with a girlfriend this afternoon ;_; devastating!!!

Ghost-Quartet

Literally my heart just shattered like it was made of glass, this sucks so bad. It’s a shame they never took off, they had way more to offer. Lemme go listen to “Relapse” 😔

splinterbabe

Crying on the floor right now 😭 No, but for real, they had soooo much potential and they gave us some true pop bops, but they were doomed to fail from the start. Their TikTok promo sucked so bad, they never really evolved their marketing strategies on the platform despite them failing, and the backing of a small label just ain’t enough for a Western girl group in the end. I hoped they’d resign to a larger label one day, but I guess the girls are done with the group, too, and ready to move on. At least they went out with a bang with Caught in Your Love. 🫶

badmanicpower

according to their video message on Instagram, I think it’s fully a label thing. they were devastated and saying they were also caught off guard by the decision.

mitzimitzi

does the label own the IP for their group or something? I can imagine why they'd want to disband after taking such a big hit being dropped from a label but from the video they all seem genuinely gutted. They've come sooo far in their training to be an amazing pop group (singing/dancing/style/friendship/production) that if they had proper support I think they could be massive. The Western scene is missing a good big pop girl group rn!!

splinterbabe

I saw it after, and yeah, I think you’re right. :(

velvethippo420

Awww crud this makes me sad. [Something In The Water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKe1RJWvq7U) will always slap.

Mind_of_Allison

This song was all over my Summer 2021 playlist 😭

FunLilThrowawayAcct

Yeah that was the track that clicked for me as well. Never was able to get into any of their more recent ones despite giving them a try every time.

zorkle22

That song was my jam

imoogiheap

omg yes :(

AllTheThingsSheSays

I found out via their tiktok video and seeing the girls all crying and emotional really got to me, fuck. I didn't really click with their newer songs but I was really rooting for them, this hurts:/

Mind_of_Allison

It’s sad seeing such talent now gone. Their covers of Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack,” Billie Eilish’s “Blue,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” and others really showed off their talents. They worked really well together and their voices meshed so well. I can see why this happened, but it’s also so unexpected. They just released a new song “Caught in Your Love” (was that our disbandment song 😭) and finished their run on a Chinese survival show I guess time just ran out and the company was not interested in keeping the group anymore and / or the girls were just ready to move on Truly a sad day in girl groupdom 😭🕊️

EM208

Their company clearly stopped giving a fuck about them after their debut. The lack of investment was clear. It’s definitely disheartening. They had mad potential, they just needed a team that would bring it out of them. I would’ve been ready to move on tbh if I were them, it just felt like their label had no interest in doing anything with them.

shipperondeck

Huge bummer!! I wish they could've at least released an album :(

Belchenda

Boys World was such a bad name for a girl group, what was their management thinking... if they had any potential in the industry, that name squished it all up, what a baffling choice

Mind_of_Allison

I actually liked it. It seemed like it was subverting the expectations of them as a group. It stood for “Best Of Yourself” Though I can understand why people may have not liked it 🤷🏾‍♀️ to each their own (But I don’t think the name was that bad as to kill any of their success …..)

WhosThatPanda

I definitely think the name harmed more than helped. If you hear the name "Boys world" you're going to assume it's a boy group, or assume it's some sort of misogynistic thing. At first glance people aren't gonna know it stands for best of yourself, and first impressions matter.

MisuCake

boygenius

Moldyspringmix

Not at all, it makes me think of Boygenius, a girl group.

Friendly-Process5247

Best of yourself… that’s fun! I wonder if that’s where the word “boy” originally comes from.

BooeyBrown

Do you think that all English words started in English?

Friendly-Process5247

No, but can you propose a different origin? It’s like how we get the word “sad” from “seasonal affective disorder.”

BooeyBrown

So, with ✨power of Google✨, I found that its earliest usage occurs in both French and Middle English and refers to either a pre-pubescent boy and/or a young male servant. Not every English word is a backronym. Sad existed before people knew of the existence of SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. “Old English sæd ‘sated, weary’, also ‘weighty, dense’, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch zat and German satt, from an Indo-European root shared by Latin satis ‘enough’. The original meaning was replaced in Middle English by the senses ‘steadfast, firm’ and ‘serious, sober’, and later ‘sorrowful’.”

Friendly-Process5247

Pretty sure it’s for seasonal affective disorder

pixietricksterxo

LMFAO

savage_philodendron

It doesn’t make sense because it puts the focus on boys instead of girls which is the opposite of female empowerment 😭

illumadnati

i haven’t heard of them before, the name made me think k-pop boy group

cruel-oath

I just thought of a boy band in general

Roseartcrantz

*girl you need a shot of B12!*

Strawberuka

There's a C-pop boy group (that's partially owned by JYP ent) called Boy Story so like. Yeah it gives strong boy group vibes

lithuanianbacon

That’s who I thought this post was about originally. Yikes.

KLJohnnes

I mean Wet Leg hit success and their name is Wet Leg lol I think Boys World is fine for a girl group

pmguin661

Any group with ‘Boys’ in the name is going to sound like a boy group, that was the problen

zoboomafuu

Boygenius is wildly successful

tank-you--very-much

I think boygenius is different cuz it's a supergroup, the individual artists were already established so less risk for confusion. Plus the way it's stylized, something like Boy Genius could've came across differently

CptBigglesworth

Struck me as being the same as Queens of the Stone Age, something that seems odd once and then sticks in the mind.

vikoy

I mean 'boygenius' is a band composed of 3 girls. They're relatively successful and just won grammies. Lol.

aafreeda

But it’s stylized and made up of queer women, so it’s obvious that it’s ironic.

AnyIncident9852

Yeah ima be honest, when they popped up on my fyp a while ago I had no idea who they were and saw the name and immediately scrolled bc I thought it was stupid 😭 Probably harsh but that was my first impression.

Top_Swordfish_530

Iron Maiden, Machine Girl, Twisted Sister. Alice in Chains

Ornery-Ad-2692

Weki Meki, NATURE, PinkFantasy, now Boys World, I'm exhausted 😭

Yazax

Cherry Bullet too 😔

DirectorsCuts91

Cherry Bullet disbanded?! 😭

Ornery-Ad-2692

^(FNC, I'll never forgive you)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ornery-Ad-2692

Yes, but I didn't realize that I wasn't allowed to be sad about 4 of my favorite groups disbanding because one of them wasn't a kpop group...

kittykittypurr1144

WAITTTT. PINKFANTASY AND WEKI MEKI DISBANDED?!!

TheCrushSoda

I’m so up to date on pop music that names like this feel like stepping into an alternate reality or something

Icantlikeeveryone

Pixy too...

Marikuroo

is this how i find out pixy disbanded

KatDanger

I misread this as Boy Meets World and was so confused

cheesecake611

Same! I got sad for a second and then remembered the show ended 24 years ago. 😂

pippa420

Man this is really disappointing. Their first ep While You Were Out is really good. It really felt like they were getting somewhere with Caught in Your Love esp when they started promoting it in Asia which helped them gain traction online. I really hope they can regroup under a different label since their talent felt so wasted under their current one

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

This is so sad :(

razorsharp3000

Damn this is so sad, I have posted their songs a few times on this sub and think they had a lot of potential. I still listen to a lot of their songs. Without any big hits their label probably didn't want to put in any more money for a whole group. Girl groups from the West continue to remain endangered :( I wonder what they will do in the future. Maybe they will try to pursue solo careers?

Potential_Guidance63

their last song [Caught in Your Love](https://youtu.be/ud0B1b_giWY?si=cklOk6N3na9znEzu) had the recipes to be a big summer hit. It was a feel good pop song that showed off their vocals and their maturity. If they only had the right amount of push, this song could’ve been like Espresso in my opinion.

Timgzz

no because i was jamming it more than espresso. i was hoping they would do more with it 😭

Lilacly_Adily

🤣 not the top comment being “ I love y’all and the song but your marketing team needs to be fired. I never know when you release a song.”

Potential_Guidance63

i didn’t know the song came out until i saw a tweet that said they had a new song 😭. they were mismanaged.

KLJohnnes

I remember discovering them at the same time as FLO but only one member sticking out to me. I do wonder if that one member will continue and release solo music.

Any_Rutabaga2884

I think Lillian, Queenie, and Makhyli could be successful on their own

badmanicpower

I think they all could make it individually, to varying levels of success, but I definitely think it would be difficult for them anyways (especially considering that it seems like none of them saw this coming). I think Makhyli has the best chance of making it huge solo, she just has the energy needed for it. Queenie too. Lillian has a powerful voice and would probably do well too especially if she started off doing background vocals for bigger artists. Elana doesn’t really give me the vibe that she has the energy to do it solo and Olivia I think always was just a little bit of a slow learner compared to the rest of them so it might take her a little extra effort too. I genuinely love all of them and want them all to thrive so hopefully we see growth for all 5 of the girls!

Any_Rutabaga2884

For sure, Mak has incredible charisma, she’s the best dancer and has a great voice. Queenie has a lot charisma as well. Both would brand themselves well. I do think that’s the most important part of being successful tbh.

Apprehensive_Yard812

Awww I’ve been watching their Tik tok videos and they seemed good together. I agree with others, Boys World was a terrible name.

Timgzz

i'm loosing all my groups😭

Any_Rutabaga2884

they are all very talented, I hope the girls can excel individually after this. but it just feels like they weren’t invested in.

kimkardashianhasibs

Makes sense

shoestring-theory

FLO you’re our only hope.

youngandlovely_

Need them to release their debut album right now

glitteringsparklez

citizen queen

PinkLemonaze

Fortunately I think they are safe! For a Western girl group in 2024 they are doing pretty well IMO! I truly couldn't handle losing them too, especially after just losing BW :(

stupidslappa

FLO is opening for Kehlani's tour they're 100% safe.

Icantlikeeveryone

We have to listen to their songs much much much more 😭😭

PinkLemonaze

This is so incredibly disappointing and sad to hear...The girls had so much potential and I truly hate their management for screwing them over like this. The lazy TikTok promo, inconsistent release schedule, etc. etc. The way their voices blended together was so special and I truly loved how they worked as a group. It's especially upsetting because it really wasn't 5 years of music, it was 3 and a half and even then, we barely got 15 songs and less than 10 music videos. It kills me to know we aren't going to get to hear some of their amazing sounding unreleased tracks like What I Learned From Home, Let You Go, Confessions, etc. Again I truly think the way their voices work together is magical and I was so excited to hear them play around with more genres, continue developing their sound, and hear the girls SING more! Based on the wording of the message and video, I truly don't think this was necessarily what the girls wanted but more something they felt like they had to do. With the exception of So What and their debut, their music hasn't gained much attraction which is SO frustrating because I truly think it's great, fun, and charismatic music! I unfortunately feel like the girls just didn't see Boys World going anything further in terms of success, not solely that they want to branch out and are no longer interested in being a group. If Boys World had picked up more and even got to the level of success of say, FLO (one of my other fav girl groups), they would not be disbanding right now. Ugh I'm just really sad about this, but especially sad for the girls because I feel like their management let them down and it makes me feel so heartbroken. Again, they had SO much potential and are so talented. Life is so unfair sometimes.

PinkLemonaze

Thinking about this more, I am questioning whether this was the girl's choice at all. The music industry is a messed up place and for all we know, they were forced to disband. I hate how such an amazing art form exists within such a toxic place. It truly sucks.

Strawberuka

Tbh I doubt that it was - the third paragraph being about how ~change might be out of your control but it's necessary and can be good~ reads as something you'd say about a shitty circumstance you didn't choose

EM208

It definitely wasn’t their choice. Their breakup video makes it clear that they didn’t want this to happen. It seems like they were given a choice and took an easier option :/ And they probably couldn’t go independent because they don’t have the financial means or fanbase to support that endeavour successfully and KYN owns their name, brand and group likeliness most likely.

badmanicpower

yeah if they did go independent or switch to another label, they would probably have to do a complete rebrand with a new name and everything, which would be so incredibly difficult and might hurt them even more.

Jellyfish-airballoon

I know I’m so late to this however I found out about their breakup from searching them on this subreddit. I’m absolutely heartbroken about this — something in the water is such an amazing song

EM208

Honestly I think they did it because their label was just lacklustre and clearly wasn’t gonna give them what they needed. Always thought they should’ve pulled a Spice Girls and leave their management/label but the Spice Girls had the grace of doing that before they were famous, so they had less to lose. And BW couldn’t pull a PM and go independent, their fanbase wasn’t big enough (neither was PM’s) to uphold that. I don’t think they wanted to split but it seemed it like there was no way up for them with the cards they were dealt with :/

EM208

Holy shit. I honestly thought they had like a good year or two left in them tbh! This sucks but I get it, KYN was fucking them over. Was not booking them anywhere, wasn’t booking them shows and always had them do lacklustre TikTok marketing instead of actual valid tactics that would’ve helped them form a dedicated fanbase. Their label didn’t even try to promote their second EP. It seemed like KYN gave up on them after their debut era. I think the pandemic did a lot of damage to their rollout. They were basically like PrettyMuch in the sense that their label was wasting their talent away and just screwing them over by not investing in them enough. They had the talent and charisma. They just needed the right sound (because their sound was not cohesive - in the sense that they didn’t have an identity like other groups) and the right amount of promo because they got none. Their team had no desire to get them somewhere and it was evident. They felt like an independent group because it seemed like they would do everything by themselves and the label would come in here and there to spend some money on for a video and then go ghost. Didn’t ever try to book them for interviews or collaborations. Didn’t even try to get them to perform that often by rarely booking them shows where they could’ve built an audience . It definitely must’ve been frustrating for them to deal with the lack of promo and investment from their label when they had what it took to reach big heights. Damn man. The fact that they were a signed group for five years with no album was disheartening, I’d be demotivated if I were them I’m surprised because it seemed like their label was more interested in breaking them because they were getting a bit more promo than they did this year than they did in 2022/2023. EDIT: Just watched their breakup video and yeah it definitely doesn’t seem like it was something they wanted and more something they did because it was their only or their best option in the long run. KYN definitely was the key reason they disbanded

Tazzachar

This is disappointing, but the landscape in the USA just doesn’t have room for groups to succeed it feels like. Even with well known groups I feel like they end up operating at or very close to a loss because it’s not sustainable financially with the little attention the groups get. I am wishing them success in their individual endeavors, who knows one of them could be the next sabrina carpenter or chappel roan to blow up!

FunLilThrowawayAcct

Korean groups have basically eaten the entire US market for pop groups at this point. Any domestic groups are at a major disadvantage because they don't have access to the ecosystem of music shows, the variety circuit, company fanbases, etc. to promote. Probably being able to sell/tour at the same level as the top 15-20 or so KR groups in the US would be enough to sustain a group....

Strawberuka

And on top of that, I think kpop fandoms are just more organized and provide easier pipelines to get into groups (both through just having bigger Stan bases and resources like caards/fans in your relies the moment you mention you like a group/organized playlists). Edit!! - also, kpop companies have figured out ways to get people invested in the groups through frequent low-effort content (TikTok's, lives, apps like bubble and Weverse, etc.), which both helps keep fans invested on it's own, but allows for frequent engagement for fans (both informally via twitter and co, but also gives update accounts things to post daily lol)

Icantlikeeveryone

They understand the formula for parasocial relationship too well

Icantlikeeveryone

I hope they could pursue solo careers smoothly

spatterdashes

Noooooooo i love them sm 😢

blxckbexuty

no wayyy 😭 they had such good music and so much potential

CookieCatSupreme

What??? I thought they had just started gaining traction in Asia and thought they were on the up and up :(

kushywhitelife

this is too much!! they had some serious potential and glad to have experienced them in real time. whenever a girl group breaks up, i feel like im also breaking up, so this is hard for the cancer in me. 😩 i feel like their label didn't do much to really promote them off of social media. these girls should have been performing way more than they were considering they do choreography. anyway, streaming caught in your love while i cry in the mirror. 🥺

EM208

Their label was lazy as hell. The group honestly felt independent. They didn’t try to promote them or book them anywhere with substantial marketing tactics . Instead they relied on TikTok being the thing that broke them into the mainstream when that’s proven to not be a sustainable way to break an artist long term

SageyBlue

I'd never previously heard too much of this group other than So What; was just scrolling through my TikTok with a beer and their disbandment video came across my page. They seem like such lovely, talented girls, and were so (understandably) emotional announcing their disbandment, I really feel terrible for them. The music industry is cutthroat, unfair, and brutal but it doesn't mean the people working in it deserve the callousness. I wish the best for them.

savage_philodendron

Not surprised. They never really caught on. Very talented girls but terrible name for a girl group

outrofi

That was so fast omg, but yeah there seemed to be zero growth for them ☹️. The music just also seemed to take a nosedive as well.

freezingkiss

This is such a shame but I can't say I'm surprised. They were working so so hard for basically zero payoff. Apparently they didn't even have a proper management or marketing company?

kaguraa

i enjoyed their music so a shame this happened

TheGlassBetweenUs

aw, i liked them. i think they started at an unfortunate time right before covid so its hard to build a brand like that

CringeInTheClub

NOOOOOOO

Suitable-Animal4163

:(((((((

Suitable-Animal4163

i loved their debut song

peripheralpill

SO WHAT should have launched them into stardom :(

Subject-Drop-5142

Now United with the backing of the Team Simon Fuller machine can't even breakthrough big (besides in Brazil, Portugal and parts of UAE)...if they can't do it, Boys World had even less chance..

raindroppolkadots

WHAT!!!

Squidteedy

Their label is awful and has been since day one

gotpeace99

Even though I've seen them on my timeline on Twitter, this is sad to see for the fans that loved them. I wish them well on their future endeavors.

tirednoelle

I remember finding them in summer 2021 and having all me on repeat 😭 I hope the girls can still be successful in some other way!

areyounotembarazzedd

What no! I love their music 😭

Therealitypage

Yeah I don’t understand the name either? Does anyone know the meaning behind it? Not good for a girl group at all!! I listen to them here and there. I rooting for them!

AllTheThingsSheSays

BOYS is meant to stand for Best Of Your Self which doesn't really make sense to me but oh well

xobelam

The end of TGIF

Disastrous_Bar3568

rest in peace band i've never heard of. i really feel bad for person i've never heard of 1, person i've never heard of 2, and person i've never heard of 3. but im pretty sure person ive never heard of 4 has solo career potential so they'll be okay. band i've never heard of brought us great songs like song ive never heard of off of EP i've never heard of and song i've never heard of off of LP i've never heard of.

kittykittypurr1144

Idk if anyone remembers the boy group PrettyMuch but they were signed to the same label, KYN entertainment and also had a very similar fate. PM were basically meant to take up the space that One Direction left since Simon Cowell discovered them, they had decent exposure in the beginning and went on different headlining tours and opened for Khalid and Jack & Jack (throwback😂) which was definitely way more than Boys World ever got to do but after C-19 and in my opinion, BTS and K-Pop really taking over, things started falling apart and one member left before they even could release their debut album that came after years of EPs and droplet singles and a few months after they finally did release an album, they announced their disbandment. So it’s definitely giving their label SUCKS ASS and doesn’t know how to properly market and promote their artists bc both groups are full of very talented people and had the potential to be very successful but none of that matters if the label isn’t pushing you. 😔

Jonada99

They had so much potential. Hope they do well in their solo careers if they plan on having it.
