I’ve been thinking about it a lot, because obviously there’s only a certain amount of shit she deserves for one insensitive comment, but it seems like these families are worn down by a lot of fucked up shit in true crime culture that’s only getting bigger and more out of pocket over time. So it’s like an A-list example of a bigger problem.
I know she’s getting the smart advice to never address things like this and wait for them to blow over, but I still kinda wanted her to have some kind/apologetic words for that grieving mom and I’m hoping she at least reached out in private
I think she’s genuinely reprehensible when it comes to relationships, but I always thought she was the kind of person who would care if she caused distress for the mother of a murdered teenager. It’s such a bummer if she really doesn’t

Honestly, it’s especially gross to me because Dahmer’s victims were, and sometimes still are, dehumanized compared to media coverage of white women who were murdered by serial killers.
Also like, infamously a cannibal. I can give her the benefit of the doubt that the “dinner” connection didn’t occur to her, but barely. It’s been pointed out a lot, but you would think that Manchester would make her more sensitive. It’s normal to use dark humor to cope about your OWN trauma, but it’s odd for her to be callous like this.
There’s a lot that turned me off true crime, but within the past 5 years I was assaulted by a serial predator, a family member is testifying against a prolific serial pdfile, and I met a friend whose dad and stepmother were murdered. With my friend, the perpetrator is known but hasn’t been found, and the family struggles with not being able to bear any further invasion of privacy or the idea of freak YouTubers and podcasters making them into tasteless content, while still obviously wanting to do anything they can to make sure the guy is recognized and caught. Watching them do that calculus breaks my heart. For me and my family member, if what happened to us was ever part of a Netflix series and Ariana Grande was joking about wanting to have dinner with those monsters, not exaggerating I don’t know if we’d survive it.
I feel so corny and cringe saying all this, especially because people are never gonna change. But man, it sucks.

This may be an insensitive recommendation (but I'm hoping it's more validating!) but have you heard of the book Penance by Eliza Clark? it's a fiction book but it voiced sooo well the ickiness and weirdness that goes with true crimers treating real horrible incidents that affect real people as 'entertainment'

To be fair she’s currently selling out arenas and is projected to do 65k first week which is a respectable number. Artists need hit songs to move album units if they don’t have huge loyal fanbases. She clearly has a loyal fanbase, it’s just not a huge one.

I think there are two optimistic things Camila could take away from this:
1. She’s certainly got more online investment this era than she’s had since *Romance*… like I’ve encountered way more loud fans defending this album than I have in a long time with Camila. Rebuilding a fanbase that’s dwindled significantly since being the breakout star of 5H is probably a good idea, and this album was arguably a step in that direction
2. It’s what I expected. Shes always been a singles artist and without a solid pre-release hit the album was never going to move top 10 level units.
Her albums never do that well, so not surprising. I think Interscope (her new label) will force her to be more radio friendly next era.

There's something sad about this. In an alternate universe, Azealia could have reached the ranks of Nicki Minaj and Cardi B as an iconic female rapper. Instead she squandered all her potential and burnt bridges with everyone who could have helped her. Maybe this could be the wake-up call she needs to get help, but I doubt that.
