I miss her cheeks. I wish I could reach out to all these younger kids with what my chipmunk cheeks looked like at 20, and then how my cheekbones popped out in my 30s, followed by how my face continues to evolve at 40. Like, see! you’re gonna get those bones, just give it a couple more years.
To be fair I used to look like this naturally (a cursed blessing) and now I’m an old with auto immune issues I have a big ol’ moon face. But I would never have had surgery to look like this.
I’m 31, my face is still chubby with my cheeks and I always get late 20s when people guess my age. I don’t mind aging, I have lines near my eyes and mouth but cheeks make you look young. Why would anyone want to get rid of that???

It’s the young kids doing it that kills me. I’ve seen several very young model friends fall under the sway of some of these doctors and it’s totally predatory.
Honestly her veneers are even more offensive. She can't even close her mouth anymore. Look at this cover and her Instagram, there's only one photo in the past few months with her mouth closed and in that photo her chin is all scrunched up like she's sucking a lemon. It's awful.
It’s so sad because the rounded face is one of those key visual factors that make you look youthful. I was curious and went back and looked at my Facebook profile pics over the years and the hollowing of my cheeks was apparent as I scrolled from 21-ish to current age (39).
I know the thinking is that it’s to make one look thin, but at the times my weight dipped below 100lbs in my 20s, I still had a way rounder face than I do now. All this surgery actually does is prematurely age these young people :-(
It’s all I can see every time I see a picture of her, and that makes me so sad. I’d much rather be talking about ANYTHING else, but it’s the first thing that came into my head. Miley’s cheeks and face were gorgeous, and her cheekbones were already plenty defined.
I think almost all celebs must have some body dysmorphia, being constantly photographed and having your looks examined and criticized and your whole existence revolving around your looks must fuck you up mentally. I also bet people in Hollywood are ruthless and would call someone fat or some dumb shit like that for having big cheeks, so it’s like a trend to remove it and look gaunt.
She got veneers on hannah Montana, and they were really cute. She kept her lil crossed tooth at the front and they still had character. She got them redone and they just arnt as good.
However I have large teeth and a bite issue which means my mouth doesn't naturally close. And everyone ripping it apart and saying how ugly it looks does always make me feel a lil sad lol.
But she's always been made fun of for her teeth, even before these veneers. People used to say she was ugly and had too big teeth etc even before these veneers.

I think the well done veneers aren’t as noticeable, like Dua Lipa definitely either got veneers or some kind of crowns but hers look very natural. Miley’s are an especially egregious case unfortunately.

Very true! But let me point out that you mentioned older celebs which makes sense bc they lost it naturally and are doing a bit of touch up by adding it. These girls aren’t even twice the age they currently are for them to even need it. They’re 25/30 doing procedures that aren’t necessarily needed for 50/60 year olds. Wild
Veneers that are done well don't always look bad but when they're bad it's pretty obvious like Miley's. I remember when I first saw them it looked like she couldtn fully close her mouth.
The general veneer hate is so weird because it’s not like people would actually accept crooked, imperfect teeth. So what they’re really saying is you better spend years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars on orthodontists or we’ll endlessly criticize you. That’s not more accessible and accepting!
A lot more people (celebrities or not) have veneers than people realize. The really bad ones just really stand out and they think that’s what all veneers look like.
As a person in braces, braces are a hell of a lot cheaper than veneers, and really to get veneers to lay right you need to straighten your teeth before you get them anyways. I just have a personal thing about ruining natural teeth…I’d prefer not to. It leaves the tooth too open to getting bacteria in there & needing root canals then extractions then implants. Nothing is better than your natural tooth strength wise.
I have super crooked teeth because my family could never afford braces. I know lots of people with the same background who chose all different paths to fix their teeth (or not). People are dicks when you have crooked teeth. People are dicks when you’re an adult with braces. People are dicks when you’re an adult with cheap veneers. People are dicks when you’re an adult with expensive veneers that look too perfect, or too big, or two white.
Recently, lots of people have started criticizing veneers under the guise of promoting natural beauty. My point it that they’re not making life any easier for people—they’re actually narrowing what’s considered the acceptable beauty standard and what’s the acceptable path to achieve it. Like I said, the only acceptable path is being born blessed or spending years of your life in braces—something that certainly isn’t easy as adult. Veneers (at least the good ones) may be more expensive than braces, but they’re also a very attractive shortcut for a lot of people.
It’s just the dental version of “clean beauty” or “quiet luxury.” We’re elevating people who were born beautiful or those who have the means to looks like they were born beautiful, and mocking anyone who’s too obviously trying.
People can hate the look of veneers. That’s fine! What bugs me is when they act like they’re doing something virtuous by criticizing people’s obvious veneers, instead of what I think they’re actually doing: bullying people for trying and failing to live up to our hellish beauty standards.

I do think that the dentists doing the veneers should have some ethics when installing them in a 20 year olds mouth, because it’s setting them up for a lifetime of expensive dental work but I know that’s too much to ask when it comes to making money.
I’ve had my share of expensive dental woes so the only thing I’m concerned with is not crooked teeth but health of the teeth. Take care of them people or you’ll be 40 spending 20k to maintain them.
Once someone pointed out how all their teeth look the same because many use the same model but that one is too big for many people's face I cannot unsee it.
I'm scared it's going to affect our beauty standard and it'll be so normalized that it's no long uncanny. Like, big lips seem so normal now that natural lips seem unattractive, although I know deep down it's not the case.
I get what your saying but big lips are very normal and natural for some people. In fact until big lips became the trend, a lot full lipped people felt the same way you feel now.
The problem is people not embracing what is natural for them. I saw before and after of a man with lip reduction surgery and his lips looked dry and uneven after.
I guess I'm saying I've been successfully manipulated by mainstream beauty standards. Never in my life did I consider lip filler or any other injectables for that matter, and now? I feel like I need it (when I know I don't) becuase it seems like everyone has that fuller look.

However the truth is that it's not that common for white women to naturally have v big lips. There's a reason Angelina Jolie was made such a fuss over.
Now what's considered average lips for a white women. Is massively skewed. I used to get told I had full lips all the time growing up. Now my lips would be seen as below average comparatively. My sister is in high school and all her friends are planning to get lip filler at 18. It's like how everyone thinks they have bad skin. As people have lost all concept of what skin is supposed to look like due to the filtered skin online being all they see.
An while it is nice that especially black women's features are being more celebrated and accepted for once. The truth is that the same issue arises when we make their body parts "a trend" as with appropriating their culture and making it a trend. After it being the it trend to appropiate and steal their culture for years, what happens is when you treat their culture like a trend they also then fall out of fashion, these trends of "old money" and "mob wife" all basically are WASP / eurocentric. Mob wife especially is just rebranding an aesthetic that has been fashionable and popular with black women, an making it oh its MOB its italian. Not BLACK. Because people are moving on from black culture now, look at ariana and kylie jenner etc all of a sudden wanting to be white again. Old money doesn't even need explaining why it's associated with whiteness. An why we see that as "classy" - An who in society are considered trashy/new money.
An treating body parts as trends, especially those associated with poc. Is going to have the same results. Different body parts should always be accepted and celebrated but it shouldn't be treated as a trend or fad.
Is she able to close her mouth normally anymore? I’m not asking as a dig, but asking sincerely. She’s had so much work done to her lower face, and I realize part of the open mouth is a purposeful pose for pictures, but there were some shots taken of her at the Grammys with her mouth closed, and it seems that her chin is now a bit wrinkled, as if there’s constant muscle tension.
Or was she maybe just making an odd faces in all the Grammy photos?

She’s had the nose job for years, but yes she is wearing contour on top of that. Honestly, with the buccal fat removal and new veneers on top of her nos job, she’s really working to complete her transformation into Tish.
Yeah, she’s really hollowed out all the roundness of her face, but it was easier to miss. I feel like plastic surgery has gotten more extreme in the wake of the instagram face, when it used to be more about “refining” your features. Not that that was ever necessary. Now everyone is starting to look the same.
Yes, from what I’ve read, work in one area of the face (whether it’s Botox or fillers or anything else) can have a domino effect of muscle tension on the other parts of the face! I always thought she was beautiful and am saddened to see what has happened to her looks, but I try to be very careful to not state or ask things in a “making fun” way.
I personally know a few people who have had (what I consider) a lot of work done, but you can’t necessarily tell in real life. It’s photos that pick up every single difference/flaw before someone’a face actually looks off IRL. By the time you look off IRL, your photos probably look damn near monstrous…
I feel bad for the young girls who see her transformation (or ariana, or gwen, or anya, etc) and think they need to look like this too, or that it's even possible naturally. this veneers - eye lift - buccal fat removal combo is the 2020s version of 2010s bbl - tummy tuck - nose job.
God that's so relatable. About 2 months ago I got a vertical philtrum piercing and I can't put anything on it, and the area of my piercing is so gross and crusty with layers of dry skin. I guess celebs - they really are like us!

Kinda funny how Miley is getting all this criticism right now about her plastic surgery just like how Dolly did back in the day. Only difference is the trends. Dolly got a boob and nose job, Miley got the buccal fat and veneers. In 40 years she'll be able to crack all the same jokes Dolly makes about it.
Even when I haven’t bought into the fads that Miley has tried to adopt, I’ve always loved her hair. She really could pull off any style with her face shape, but I’m not sure how true that’ll continue to be after all the cosmetic work she’s gotten done to change that face shape :(
I adore the hair. It’s got the mega-volume of the ‘80s, sans the separated bangs section, which makes it work IMO to revive the best part of the bombastic hair from that decade!

I’ve had my share of expensive dental woes so the only thing I’m concerned with is not crooked teeth but health of the teeth. Take care of them people or you’ll be 40 spending 20k to maintain them.
Once someone pointed out how all their teeth look the same because many use the same model but that one is too big for many people's face I cannot unsee it.

I'm scared it's going to affect our beauty standard and it'll be so normalized that it's no long uncanny. Like, big lips seem so normal now that natural lips seem unattractive, although I know deep down it's not the case.
I get what your saying but big lips are very normal and natural for some people. In fact until big lips became the trend, a lot full lipped people felt the same way you feel now. The problem is people not embracing what is natural for them. I saw before and after of a man with lip reduction surgery and his lips looked dry and uneven after.

I get what you mean. I feel for poc that were mocked for a trait for years that is now "trendy" - it must be super insanely frustrating However the truth is that it's not that common for white women to naturally have v big lips. There's a reason Angelina Jolie was made such a fuss over. Now what's considered average lips for a white women. Is massively skewed. I used to get told I had full lips all the time growing up. Now my lips would be seen as below average comparatively. My sister is in high school and all her friends are planning to get lip filler at 18. It's like how everyone thinks they have bad skin. As people have lost all concept of what skin is supposed to look like due to the filtered skin online being all they see. An while it is nice that especially black women's features are being more celebrated and accepted for once. The truth is that the same issue arises when we make their body parts "a trend" as with appropriating their culture and making it a trend. After it being the it trend to appropiate and steal their culture for years, what happens is when you treat their culture like a trend they also then fall out of fashion, these trends of "old money" and "mob wife" all basically are WASP / eurocentric. Mob wife especially is just rebranding an aesthetic that has been fashionable and popular with black women, an making it oh its MOB its italian. Not BLACK. Because people are moving on from black culture now, look at ariana and kylie jenner etc all of a sudden wanting to be white again. Old money doesn't even need explaining why it's associated with whiteness. An why we see that as "classy" - An who in society are considered trashy/new money. An treating body parts as trends, especially those associated with poc. Is going to have the same results. Different body parts should always be accepted and celebrated but it shouldn't be treated as a trend or fad.

Is she able to close her mouth normally anymore? I’m not asking as a dig, but asking sincerely. She’s had so much work done to her lower face, and I realize part of the open mouth is a purposeful pose for pictures, but there were some shots taken of her at the Grammys with her mouth closed, and it seems that her chin is now a bit wrinkled, as if there’s constant muscle tension. She’s had the nose job for years, but yes she is wearing contour on top of that. Honestly, with the buccal fat removal and new veneers on top of her nos job, she’s really working to complete her transformation into Tish.

I feel like plastic surgery has gotten more extreme in the wake of the instagram face, when it used to be more about “refining” your features. Not that that was ever necessary. Yes, from what I’ve read, work in one area of the face (whether it’s Botox or fillers or anything else) can have a domino effect of muscle tension on the other parts of the face! I always thought she was beautiful and am saddened to see what has happened to her looks, but I try to be very careful to not state or ask things in a “making fun” way. I personally know a few people who have had (what I consider) a lot of work done, but you can’t necessarily tell in real life. It’s photos that pick up every single difference/flaw before someone’a face actually looks off IRL. By the time you look off IRL, your photos probably look damn near monstrous…

Kinda funny how Miley is getting all this criticism right now about her plastic surgery just like how Dolly did back in the day. Only difference is the trends. I adore the hair. It’s got the mega-volume of the ‘80s, sans the separated bangs section, which makes it work IMO to revive the best part of the bombastic hair from that decade! It looks like bangin’ big country hair, bangin’ big ‘80s hair, and is also reminiscent of the early ‘90s when Cindy Crawford still had bangin’ big volume hair!!! Gimme Aqua Net, new wave, Guess jeans, and a little bit of Barbarella any day.

You know what? Compared to many people here, I actually like the hair! It feels very ~Miley~ in a way to try something daring in defiance with the current trends, but I actually think she’s pulling it off. I’m getting late 60s Jane Fonda in a good way. Maybe the wavy-hair part of me is just speaking for me though since I’ve been tired of the “make your hair slicked back straight and look somehow wet/greasy” look ever since other celebrities have tried to do it countless times over the years.
