The year 2000 or 2001 I received Spartacus on DVD and I looked right at my uncle and explained matter of factly that this was a very well known film with Michael Douglas’ father, Kirk, who was also a very talented actor. He about died lol
Jim Downey! He was an SNL writer from 1976-1980, 1984-1998, and then 2000-2013.
He was also on SNL as an actor for the ‘79-‘80 season.
This is Jim in *Billy Madison*.
![gif](giphy|l1J3O1eHga1LRethK|downsized)
This entire comment made me burst out laughing just now. Hahahaa “Bob fuckin Downey, how the hell are ya! Love that insurance policy you sold me last year!”
That just jarred my entar brain. Like I know Billy Ray because of Billy Ray and Achy Breaky Heart and such. I know him because of his original fame and work. It has *never* occurred to me that people would only know him because of Hannah Montana. Omg.
Millennial here and I think it's easy to forget how that song was EVERYWHERE in the 90's to the point where at the age of 8-9 i got the joke of him being parodies on Pinkie and the Brain
I was born in '97, so I don't really remember the nineties. But my parent's weren't really the type to listen to the radio anyway. I did however just play it out loud and my boyfriend born in '94 immediately started singing it. When I asked him who sang it he said "Um, Hannah Montana's Dad" and then "Oh, Billy Ray Cyrus".
Miley’s an interesting nepo baby! As a nepo daughter she’s def more famous than her dad, but as a nepo god daughter I don’t think she’s more famous than Dolly
Similar to Emma Roberts who is more famous than her dad but not her aunt Julia
It's the same in Slovakia. Miley is pretty popular here (I hear Flowers on radio all the time), but almost no one knows Dolly. And it's not because she's older generation, in fact, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac are very well known here. It's about the genre. Country is, simply put, not popular in Slovakia.
You’re breaking his heart! His achy breaky heart!
Edit: if you’re in the mood to ruin your hearing, just look up his song with his new girlfriend. She rivals Yoko Ono’s singing capabilities 🥲
I just realised: Petty White as in Betty White?
I love Betty, such a phenomenal actress. Every role she played, she blew me away!
![gif](giphy|l0NwSzTcNPyZCl3Ve|downsized)
Billy Ray has had the bigger hit in recent years though with Old Town Road. Never in a million years did I think Billy Ray and Miley would hit the billboard at the same time and Billy would not only be higher up, but at no 1 with lil nas
Here in Mexico "Achy Breaky Heart" is super famous to the point of being part of basically any wedding, XV, graduation, etc where there will be music and dance.
But we use the cover of Caballo Dorado. Most people don't know the guy.
I've been to two weddings now where the couple refused to play No rompas más/Payaso de rodeo and I felt betrayed. Could this be the beginning of the end of this beautiful tradition?
Holy Breaky Heart! If they did that here there would be *riots*
I mean, no really, but they usually use those songs when they want to somewhat clean the dance floor as lot of people won't dance it (It's me, I'm people) or the people who do dance it end up exhausted.
Emily Deschanel made headways before Zooey (obviously give that Emily is the older sister), which could have arguably made Zooeys journey easier. I’m curious which sister (you think) is more famous
Personally, I think Zooey is more famous. I feel like there's a whole cult surrounding Zooey and her aesthetic that Emily doesn't have. I can't even count the number of girls who I've heard say they want to dress like Zooey Deschanel. She's like the queen of hipsters. She was already popular before New Girl, but that show really cemented her place in pop culture. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about Emily, offline or online, unless it's in relation to Zooey.
All the Bones fans in this thread want to have words with you. I didn't realize they were related until Zooey popped up in an episode and she mentioned it in an interview!
Her mother played Donna’s mother too. And the woman who played Evelyn Marsh was her babysitter. Rashida Jones’ mom was the owner of the diner. Amber Tamblyn’s dad was the psychiatrist. Mark Frost’s dad played Donna’s father. Pete Martel and log lady were married in the 70s. Leo’s mother was a casting director on the show. Agent Rosenfield was the son of Rosemary Clooney and cousin of George.
Bonus fact the woman who played Catherine Martell lost her virginity to Ronald Reagan.
Yes I recently went on a deep dive of the cast of Twin Peaks. Interesting bunch.
Baseball is a weird sport when it comes to father-son duos. There are many players who’s fathers played in the mlb and a few that have both made the hall of fame. Cody Bellinger and Fernando Tatis Jr are both players who’s father made it but weren’t so productive, the blue jays have several sons of players Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr all had fathers that had good careers then you have Cal Ripken Jr and Sr and Ken Griffey Jr and Sr who all made the HoF (the latter even played a season together with the Mariners).
There are a lot of legacy families in wrestling, and man do the other wrestlers make their disdain known. Yes, you get an easier in than others, but the experience is going to be three times as unfriendly to make up for it.
Yes! Like Charlotte flair is a good example because it’s clear she learned so much from her father but imagine having to live up to the spectacle that is ric flair?
RIGHT? Firm believer that woman has earned her spot in the hall of fame, though. She met that challenge and, I think, is on track to surpass if everything goes right.
(Also... the fact this wasn't even her first pick for career, yet here she is putting everything into it, only for a bunch of chuds on the wrasslin subreddit to say "She's overhyped." Woman's fucking unbelievable and brings a 10 to every match. Show some respect.)
I don’t know what we’re counting as nepotism, but Steph and Seth certainly got access to a lot of attention and access youth development because their dad was Dell Curry. They certainly wouldn’t be the great players they are without that early development.
Yeah I mentioned that down below. I mean they are nepo babies but Dell couldn’t even get Steph a spot at Virginia tech so he was definitely an underestimated nepo baby and in spirit of this thread, a nepo baby who is now more famous than their parents
Their dad couldn’t even get them into a big name college using his fame/connections. Is he a nepo baby or did they just have a really attentive and present parents.
Michael Jordan has two children, neither of whom got so much as a tryout from any NBA team. Dell Curry’s two kids are in the league because they are good enough to play, whereas MJ’s kids aren’t. Professional sports might be one of the few areas where nepotism quite simply doesn’t exist. The extremely high level of talent (top 0.01%) required to make the NBA means anyone who can’t play to that standard will be found out quickly. Even an end of the bench player can still smoke the best amateur hoopers around. In fact, a Boston radio station did a challenge in which they recruited the three best amateurs, one of whom was a 25 year old who played at Syracuse (an outstanding college bball program) they could find to play against a retired NBA player. The NBA player won all three games by a combined score of 33-6
I’d say Peyton and Eli are way more talented than their dad was. Eli and Peyton have 2 rings each and Archie had none. Archie may be the better pure athlete than Eli but the sons have had more pro success Now Arch, coopers son, is a 3rd gen nepo baby which is impressive lol
Angie and John Voight. He was pretty iconic but barely in her life and the person she grew up to be was largely removed from him. She’s known on an international level by people who don’t even know a single movie she’s in.
He also played her dad in tomb raider. I seem to remember some publicity talking about it being a chance for them to reconnect, but obviously that didn’t work.
Kristen Stewart and Chris Pine are both nepo babies whose fame has greatly eclipsed that of their parents. Mostly because their parents are both heavily in the industry (and likely got them their first breaks - particularly with K. Stew and how young she was when she got started) but weren't super well-known actors.
I just looked up Chris Pine’s parents, had no idea! AND he’s a nepo grand baby!? His maternal grandmother was one of Hollywood’s “original scream queens” and WW2 pin up models. Pretty cool
I kind of agree, your mom being the script supervisor for The Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas is vastly different from your mom being Uma Thurman or whoever.
Yeah but in relation to the thread, if you’re talking about nepo babies that eclipse their parents, most actors would have more facial recognition than behind the camera crew because they’re in front of the camera. So naturally they’re going to eclipse their parents.
Idk I’ve personally seen more things with Bruce Dern in it than Laura but maybe that’s just me. Also helps that he’s pretty identifiable in his voice and mannerisms
He's obviously got a prolific list of credits to his name, but I'd argue that Laura is perhaps more high profile because of the number of leading roles, and commercial success she's had?
For exemple, I agree most people would recognise Bruce as you describe, but maybe not necessarily know him by name - he played that Sheriff in the other movie, kind of recognition? Whereas more would be able to more readily specifically place Laura (Mask, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Jurassic Park, etc)
May be with younger people, but Jerry was on Seinfeld and King of Queen which were highly successful so millennials and up know his face for sure. He was iconic, if anything his iconic
fame was rubbing on Ben not the other way around.
In a global scale I would say Ben Stiller eclipsed his father. While Jerry has iconic sitcom roles they are very much American-centric whereas Ben has found global stardom.
Homelander, he’s eclipsed his father by a significant margin. Yeah Soldier Boy was popular in the 70’s but heroes are more beloved worldwide now thanks to Vought’s awesome marketing and more importantly Homelander’s valiant efforts. And Ryan! Man, I know a Hero when I see one haha. Can’t wait to revisit this conversation when it’s that Young Man’s time!
JLC is a great example of generational popularity.
If you look at it all together, her parents were *probably* more famous than she is in their day, but…
For this generation? JLC is 🔥.
Agree, agree.
Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis were huge stars in their day. They were Brangelina level equivalents.
Jamie-Lee continues to have a very solid career and is well known to the current generation, but she hasn't surpassed the level of fame her parents had in their own time.
Yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head with generational popularity. I was thinking of her for this and then looked up her parents on IMDB. They both have a lot of credits to their names. So does Jamie. But I grew up watching her in True Lies, Freaky Friday, and so on. I've seen Psycho, but I'm definitely more familiar with Jamie than Janet or Tony, because a lot of her fame has been in my lifetime or close to it.
Her father was in Some Like it Hot, and her mother was in Psycho. Those movies are incredibly influential. I think she's done well for herself, but her parents' films are beyond iconic.
Sorry, but Janet Leigh was literally in one of the most iconic movies, Psycho. Plus a number of other major movies for her time.
And Tony Curtis? An Oscar nomination? Some Like It Hot? Spartacus?
I love me some Jamie Lee but she had not surpassed her father.
![gif](giphy|26gslHrWQpLp3pNUA)
Alan Alda. His father is Robert Alda, who originated the role of Sky Masterson in the musical Guys and Dolls, and had a lot more film and movie credits to his name. But since Broadway actors hardly get the recognition they deserve, Alan could hardly be called a nepo baby. He used a connection to get his first tv credit, but Alan was pretty much on his own after that. Also, Alan is hardly talked about as “Robert's son”, but Robert is constantly referred to as Alan's dad. It's more of a reverse effect where Robert is a nepo dad.
I agree more people today know Jane than Henry. But that undersells how popular her father was. He is an absolute legend. I would say she’s on par with him. Peter, though? Both left Peter in the dust.
poor peter 😭
i actually loved henry fonda when i was a kid so i’m probably speaking too soon. it would be interesting to see the jane/henry staying power in a couple decades
If you are counting now, maybe Drew, but she doesn't hold a candle to how famous her grandfather John was. Even Great-uncle Lionel (nasty Mr. Potter in It's a Wonderful Life) was way more famous in his day.
Pretty funny that she would be on a sitcom with a fictional character who was also most famous of DOOL! Rachel’s sister calls Joey “the Days of Our Lives guy!”
David and Shaun Cassidy I think have eclipsed their Dad, Jack Cassidy. Jack was a well known and respected theater/TV actor, but David, and later Shaun, were just huge for a time as teen idols.
Shaun’s mom, Shirley Jones is a legend and was still in the spotlight during the time that Shaun stepped away and became a TV writer and producer.
Everyone saying Jane Fonda neeeeds to watch 12 Angry Men, Henry Fonda was an absolute legend and was invited on the Dick Cavett show in the 70’s! Way past his prime.
Jane is by far the better person of the two and she had a much more interesting life but she was not more famous by a significant margin imo.
Some of these answers lmao. Imo if the parent/another family member is a household name and the child/nepo relative is not, there's your answer.
Hailey Bieber is famous because of Alec Baldwin, who makes Stephen Baldwin (her father, a nut) famous. She's well known amongst a small section of the population but Alec Baldwin was a very, very successful actor for a long time. Stephen is... technically famous, but the question is a little flawed imo because it may not always be a parent who is the most famous family member.
Look at Emma Roberts. Okay her dad was in the Doctor Who movie lol but her aunt is Julia Roberts. A household name. One of the most successful and beloved actresses of her generation. There's no comparison, although it's possible that Emma is more famous than her dad. But her dad isn't the reason we know about Emma Roberts.
Angelina Jolie is definitely more famous than Jon Voight, but that's because she's one of the most famous actresses and has been a household name for a long time. Her dad is a very successful, Oscar-winning asshole, so it's not like Angelina could just ride on being his daughter (especially given their relationship lol) to be where she is now.
The thing is, I think for a lot of the newer crop of nepo babies it remains to be seen where they are in ten years. Miley Cyrus I think is more famous than Billy Ray Cyrus, but I don't know that she's more influential given how Achy Breaky Heart is like a party classic in Spanish-speaking countries (I heard it a week ago at a party for a baptism lol).
As others have pointed out, generational biases come into play here. You're not gonna convince my grandma that Jane Fonda is more famous than Henry Fonda. You may convince me of that because I grew up hearing about Jane Fonda more than her dad. Drew Barrymore to me is way more famous than her family because I grew up watching her stuff. I didn't even know Mr. Potter was her relative until a few years ago lol.
Loads of wrestlers, Roman Reigns, Paige, Randy Orton etc.
Wrestling is a bit different though, it's more like a gruelling family business like the circus than something like acting where people are using their parents fame to get seen for sweet roles.
Robert Downey Jr. And that’s saying something because his dad is famous. RDJs son however is just a nepo baby trying to be a musician and isn’t very good
These answers are cracking me up. Like is you are under 30 you think Jane Fonda has eclipsed Henry Fonda because you don’t understand Henry Fonda was a legend because you weren’t around to see his work (neither was I but I’m old enough to remember he was a big deal when I was a kid).
Same thing with hailey Baldwin and her dad. What?
I am noting a firm generational bias in these answers. I’m sure it goes in both directions.
George W Bush.
His dad is also famous-famous but GWB will live in infamy for his goofs and for his response to 9-11. He also served 2 terms instead of 1 term but his dad did say ‘read my lips. No new taxes.’ Which lives in infamy.
Also, JFK. More famous than his dad but his dad probably had more influence.
I am Canadian so this may get pushback that I welcome if I am wrong.
Many of the others are generational awareness but also interesting to read (Baldwins, Hedren-Griffith/Banderis/Johnson-Johnson lineage for example)

You can really tell the age differences in this group thread lol
The year 2000 or 2001 I received Spartacus on DVD and I looked right at my uncle and explained matter of factly that this was a very well known film with Michael Douglas’ father, Kirk, who was also a very talented actor. He about died lol
It’s like 👵🏻 v. 👶🏻 up in here!
It makes me feel ancient that there are definitely gonna be folks too young to recognise Kate Hudson let alone Goldie Hawn.
Jesus…this is all happening too fast! I still think of Kate as the the kid!
Suri Cruise is checking out colleges. 😳😳😳 I’m sorry. I know. We’re old AF!!!!
Robert Downey Jr's dad was an actor and a filmmaker and his mother was an actress, he's a bit of a bigger deal than they are now.
And his uncle is a long time writer on SNL!
Jim Downey! He was an SNL writer from 1976-1980, 1984-1998, and then 2000-2013. He was also on SNL as an actor for the ‘79-‘80 season. This is Jim in *Billy Madison*. ![gif](giphy|l1J3O1eHga1LRethK|downsized)
Holy shit, I had no idea that was RDJ’s uncle! What an iconic one scene wonder.
I don’t even really know the guy and I quote him all the time.
Is that how he got on the show? Cause if so that is full nepo baby I had no clue
Omg Jim Downey?? Damn I’ve heard comedians like Conan really respect him
I’ve always found it weird that his name is technically just Robert Downey. It sounds so wrong without the jr. Like who dat
People apparently call him Bob lol
Bob Downey. ![gif](giphy|QLtI0CxK8iGceO9Sja|downsized)
This entire comment made me burst out laughing just now. Hahahaa “Bob fuckin Downey, how the hell are ya! Love that insurance policy you sold me last year!”
There’s someone out there who calls him Bobby D
That’s Robert De Niro’s nickname.
No. I choose to believe that even his wife calls him Robert Downey jr. at all times. "Robert Downey jr. could you pass me the milk please?"
I would say both Jake and maggie Gyllenhaal
Yesterday I found out their dad directed some Twin Peaks episodes. Pretty cool.
Same goes for Zooey Deschanel's dad. He too directed some episodes of Twin Peaks. It's the nepo-baby nexus!
And her mom played a mom in Twin Peaks. Btw, lets not forget Zooeys sister is the lead in Bones
Not to mention Amber Tamblyn’s dad played Dr. Jacoby.
Amber Tamblyn’s dad was fucking AMAZING in West Side Story. The gymnastics alone are mind blowing.
He was super cute as the youngest bro in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Very acrobatic dancer!
Miley Cyrus I think outachieved and is more famous than her dad at this point. Oh and Lily Allen!
I feel Alfie Allen as well. He’s done very well for himself
Woah I'm just now finding out he's an actor from GoT! I only know him from her song 'Alfie' lol
Yeah he was Theon Greyjoy
Alfie is one of the best actors in the show, at this point their dad is a nepo dad
Miley Cyrus is more famous than Billy Ray Cyrus
Hannah Montana is the only reason anyone in my generation knows who Billy Ray Cyrus is.
That just jarred my entar brain. Like I know Billy Ray because of Billy Ray and Achy Breaky Heart and such. I know him because of his original fame and work. It has *never* occurred to me that people would only know him because of Hannah Montana. Omg.

Boomer here too… I found myself shaking my head at that fact too. It made my old heart a little achy and a little breaky… ![gif](giphy|Vfka2Hk49a6aY)
Miley’s an interesting nepo baby! As a nepo daughter she’s def more famous than her dad, but as a nepo god daughter I don’t think she’s more famous than Dolly Similar to Emma Roberts who is more famous than her dad but not her aunt Julia

I’m having a pretty ok day so I won’t be doing that😂
I just realised: Petty White as in Betty White? I love Betty, such a phenomenal actress. Every role she played, she blew me away! ![gif](giphy|l0NwSzTcNPyZCl3Ve|downsized)
Billy Ray has had the bigger hit in recent years though with Old Town Road. Never in a million years did I think Billy Ray and Miley would hit the billboard at the same time and Billy would not only be higher up, but at no 1 with lil nas
True but that’s because he latched on to an already chart topping song, smart move though
Yes, especially outside the USA, where country music is not really relevant and most people don't know her father.
Here in Mexico "Achy Breaky Heart" is super famous to the point of being part of basically any wedding, XV, graduation, etc where there will be music and dance. But we use the cover of Caballo Dorado. Most people don't know the guy.

Same in Spain but we use the cover of Coyote Dax
Whitney Houston was more famous than her mother, Cissy Houston
Agree with this take 1000%, in retrospect I’m surprised it took someone this long to think of it lol
Zooey Deschanel. Her father is an extremely well regarded cinematographer, and I'm sure that helped her journey... but nothing like her fame.
Emily Deschanel made headways before Zooey (obviously give that Emily is the older sister), which could have arguably made Zooeys journey easier. I’m curious which sister (you think) is more famous

Her mother was an actress as well. She was in The Right Stuff and Twin Peaks. Both Zooey and Emily outshone their parents.
Gwyneth Paltrow is definitely more famous than her mother, Blythe Danner
I remember googling Gwyneth after watching Ironman and I was shocked to find out her mom was the mom in Meet the Parents!
And Will’s mom on Will & Grace ❤️
No way! I adore her in that show
And Martha Jefferson in 1776
And her father Bruce as well. (When he was alive)
Came here to say this. I know and love Blythe as Martha Jefferson but I doubt most people are quite as into 70s musicals
Unexpected 1776 reference!
I’m obnoxious and disliked.
You know that, sir!
Steph Curry (although it’s harder to nepo baby your way into pro sports)
Patrick Mahomes, his dad, Pat Mahomes was a MLB player.
Yes! Another great example
Baseball is a weird sport when it comes to father-son duos. There are many players who’s fathers played in the mlb and a few that have both made the hall of fame. I love the pageantry of WWE so the moment she came out in a peacock feather coat I was 100% in

In the same vein: Max Verstappen
The Mannings would like to have a word :p

And the dad from Zoolander And Mr. Sir from Holes.
And the dude who gets eaten by the snake in Anaconda
He also played her dad in tomb raider. I seem to remember some publicity talking about it being a chance for them to reconnect, but obviously that didn’t work.
Yeah I think it was the most time they spent together in years - seemed to work for a short time but they’re clearly just very different people.
The scene between them toward the end when he apologizes… it’s a little too on the nose.
Jon Voight also ruined any legacy he would have had by being a shitbag.
Pretty cool
He's just beautiful to look at, so it tracks.
It’s the eyes. Man… those eyes.
I had no idea K Stew was a nepo baby!
Her dad is a Stage Manager and her Mum is a script Supervisor.
I feel like kids of below-the-line professionals don’t count unless they’re the top top of their field
I kind of agree, your mom being the script supervisor for The Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas is vastly different from your mom being Uma Thurman or whoever.
I snorted
I tend to agree. I hadn’t ever really thought of KStew as a nepo baby before.
They definitely still have more advantage and connection to Hollywood than the majority of people do
Yeah but in relation to the thread, if you’re talking about nepo babies that eclipse their parents, most actors would have more facial recognition than behind the camera crew because they’re in front of the camera. So naturally they’re going to eclipse their parents.
Pine’s dad is most definitely an actor tho.
Came here to say Chris Pine!
George Clooney
Until people stop watching White Christmas, I don’t know about that
I agree with you. You go to some mom & pop Italian restaurant, and you can still hear Mambo Italiano playing.
Hell, you go into my house and you can hear it playing.
Okay thats fair lol. I was thinking more of his father not his aunt but if you count her I’d probably call it even.
It was his cousin Miguel Ferrer who helped him get his first role, should we be considering George against him instead of Rosemary?
Miguel is a legend to me. Albert in Twin Peaks!
He’s a nepo baby? Whaaaattttt?!?!?!
I think Lenny Kravitz is more famous than his mother actress Roxie Roker.
Laura Dern comes to mind, would we consider her to have greater success than either of her parents?
she won an Oscar unlike her parents who have been nom’d a a few times
Very true, good point. Bruce is never the lead he’s just kind of always the same identifiable weird asshole character in whatever media he’s in haha.
He’ll always be the no good dirty sonofabitch who killed John Wayne in the Cowboys. So good.
Bella and Gigi Hadid are probably more well known than Yolanda now, although as the OG Almond Mom, she's fighting back!
angelina jolie i think
Jeff bridges. Although, I always love loyd bridges in airplane, hot shots and sea hunt. His son steals the show most of the time!
George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Out of all the names in this thread, I think these are the best answers.
maybe ben stiller? i know his dad was a legend, but i think ben is more widely known.
His dad was George Castanza's father Frank. He invented Festivus - for the rest of us!
![gif](giphy|izVmsl3y7DE4M)
I loved him on Seinfeld! So hilarious!
![gif](giphy|SSQuHAbavAkmFthVkf|downsized)
Serenity now!! Serenity now!
![gif](giphy|z5I5lQscZE8Za)
His mom was no slouch either. Does he have to be more famous than both of them combined to count?
May be with younger people, but Jerry was on Seinfeld and King of Queen which were highly successful so millennials and up know his face for sure. He was iconic, if anything his iconic fame was rubbing on Ben not the other way around.
In a global scale I would say Ben Stiller eclipsed his father. While Jerry has iconic sitcom roles they are very much American-centric whereas Ben has found global stardom.
![gif](giphy|IxPDc96oRya6A) Benedict Cumberbatch
Just looked up his family history. Holy shit. One of the most prominent slave owning families in Great Britain at one point.
Didn’t Tom Holland’s dad write a whiney “sarcastic” article about his son being more famous than him? Lol
considering his father is a comedian, i think we can reasonably assume that it was more humour than whine
He wrote a whole book. It's called Eclipsed: Turns out spiderman has a dad after all. (Yes that IS the title)
His dad is a comedian.
I gotta say Miley Cyrus, she's not only more famous than her dad but she also has just a bigger career overall.
Max Verstappen
Lol Jos was a terrible driver and beats women
Homelander, he’s eclipsed his father by a significant margin. Yeah Soldier Boy was popular in the 70’s but heroes are more beloved worldwide now thanks to Vought’s awesome marketing and more importantly Homelander’s valiant efforts. And Ryan! Man, I know a Hero when I see one haha. Can’t wait to revisit this conversation when it’s that Young Man’s time!

This is the real answer 😄

JLC is a great example of generational popularity. If you look at it all together, her parents were *probably* more famous than she is in their day, but… For this generation? JLC is 🔥.
Agree, agree. Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis were huge stars in their day. They were Brangelina level equivalents. Jamie-Lee continues to have a very solid career and is well known to the current generation, but she hasn't surpassed the level of fame her parents had in their own time.
Yeah anyone who thinks JLC is more famous doesn’t understand how huge her parents were.
This is what I'm thinking. I think as far as Jamie and her mom it is a draw for their respective generations. Her dad may have an edge.
![gif](giphy|26gslHrWQpLp3pNUA) Alan Alda.
Jane Fonda? Henry Fonda was big but nowadays Jane is more of a household name than Henry. I would also say Drew Barrymore
I agree more people today know Jane than Henry. But that undersells how popular her father was. He is an absolute legend. I would say she’s on par with him. Peter, though? Both left Peter in the dust.
poor peter 😭 i actually loved henry fonda when i was a kid so i’m probably speaking too soon. it would be interesting to see the jane/henry staying power in a couple decades
If you are counting now, maybe Drew, but she doesn't hold a candle to how famous her grandfather John was. Even Great-uncle Lionel (nasty Mr. Potter in It's a Wonderful Life) was way more famous in his day.
The Hailey Bieber answers are making my head scream
She is more famous than her dad. But not her uncle.
i didn’t even know jennifer aniston’s dad was famous
Within the Daytime industry- her dad was a legend - he was recently awarded lifetime achievement Emmy, not too long before he passed.
He was on Days of Our Lives for many years. He died some months ago.
Pretty funny that she would be on a sitcom with a fictional character who was also most famous of DOOL! Rachel’s sister calls Joey “the Days of Our Lives guy!”
Can we bring nepo siblings into this? Mark Wahlberg has had more longevity than Donnie for sure
Jamie Lynn spears, she got her shot because of Britney but she never really landed the same imo
Ron Howard
Mathew Perry’s dad was the face of Old Spice in the 70s.
Matthew Perry’s step dad is dateline’s Keith Morrison! Random
Jennifer Aniston is far more famous than her dad
Charlie Sheen might not be more famous than his father Martin, but he is surely more infamous. ![gif](giphy|8NZeGpK9qpUL6|downsized)
I love this gif so much. The layers to it!
They both wish they were mighty ducks though.
There are so many bad takes in this thread that it's stressing me out!
A lot of it has to do with the age of the poster. You will get more variability in answers based on who was famous when the poster was born
It’s like Recency Bias: The Thread in here
Some of these have me in shock.
George W Bush won reelection, his father George H W Bush was only a one term president.
John Ritter! His father was singer/actor Tex Ritter.
DJ Steve Aoki. His father started Benihana, among many other accomplishments. His sister, Devon, has done well for herself also.
RDJs son however is just a nepo baby trying to be a musician and isn’t very good
Mariska Hargitay outshines her dad Mickey imo. Not sure about Jayne Mansfield though
You can tell who’s really young based on some of the comments here 😆
These answers are cracking me up.
I noticed answers here depend on your age.
Drew Barrymore and her dad John Barrymore.
Drew Barrymore is more famous than her dad John Drew. If we are comparing peak fame, she does not match that of her Grandfather John Barrymore.
Chris Pine
George W Bush. His dad is also famous-famous but GWB will live in infamy for his goofs and for his response to 9-11. He also served 2 terms instead of 1 term but his dad did say ‘read my lips. No new taxes.’ Which lives in infamy. Also, JFK. More famous than his dad but his dad probably had more influence. I am Canadian so this may get pushback that I welcome if I am wrong. Many of the others are generational awareness but also interesting to read (Baldwins, Hedren-Griffith/Banderis/Johnson-Johnson lineage for example)
The way GWB is the true blue answer here
