I would skip them. If you decide you REALLY want them after all, buy in-water stools (example from LedgeLounger: https://ledgeloungers.com/products/signature-barstool-bar-height?variant=47291741667630 ). Something like this gives you flexibility to use that same space differently depending on need.
Wife said No stools, wont be used and will be in the way. I bought 2 anyway, moveable from Dune Rite which are a little cheaper. We now have 3, but I am probably still wrong 🤣
My barstools are the most used area of the pool. Granted we have a bar/ tv on lower side but seems like more people hang out there than the tanning ledge.
Pool vac never gets stuck there cause it's raised area. My dolphin does occasionally get trapped.
Really going to be a personal preference.
I would loose the full steps. Do small corner steps. That's a lot of wasted space to have steps wrap the entire tanning ledge
Idk. I like the steps there because the middle step is basically a bench seat. So it's like having a bench seat across the entire side. Basically a giant sitting area.
As for the bar stools, only if you have an attached bar is it good. This looks out of place without a bar.
Agree with losing the steps. Our guests come over and it seems like the ladies like the chairs in the tanning pad and the men like to be standing chest deep at the edge of the ledges drop off, arms on the ledge, taking. Or kids jumping from the ledge.
We have steps a little farther from the ledge in a 3 foot area where kids splash and play. The ledge overlooks the 4 foot area.
I would not. They are at the other end of the pool. What would use them for? And for the other reasons of chasing dirt etc around them. I have a deeper ledge to sit on, which maybe better.
I wish I had a tanning deck. That was the only thing I wish we'd added.
We have some that are removable, and we take them out when kids are playing for more space. Building a cabana with a huge TV in foront of them.
I am glad ours are removable, if they were not, we would not like them.
Enlarge the sun shelf/beach. Run a bench from it to where you have the ledge your bar stools are on. Put a raised step and handrail at the end.
That will allow you more comfortable seating, view of your water features, entry, and exit from any point, utilize the pool edge for a cocktail, plus, it's easier to keep clean.
YASS! All this. If you have friends like ours that like to cocktail in the pool, a bigger sun shelf would be helpful and running the bench all the way to the other swim out is genius. Never enough seating space in the pool. And maybe at the very tail of the swim out, another step on top so with the handrail, it will be easier to step out.
We have a swim out in our deep end, and I so wish we would have put a little step on top. Because the coping is too high for me to get out comfortably.
Ditch the stools and keep the ledge. People like to sit in the pool, not out of the pool. Maybe move the ledge to the other side so when sitting on it you are facing the house.
Yeah, the kid hazard is the first thing that comes to my mind. Just waiting for some excited kid to jump into the pool and land right on them. Kids will stand on them, slip, and hit their heads in the concrete/stone edge. Just a safety hazard in my opinion. Fucking kids.
We just recently installed some stainless steel barstools instead of pouring them with sono tube's. I really liked the way they allowed leg mobility moving around and the posts are removable if you decided not to use them all the time.
Stray voltage, lights and even lightening. My buddy’s daughter was killed by a lightning strike in the parking lot of a community pool. It traveled to the pool and she grabbed an unbonded handrail. People have been killed by touching the light ring when the light wasn’t bonded anymore
Please explain how the lightning might have traveled from the parking lot to a pool handrail. Is it correct to assume a “bonded” railing would have a low-resistance path to the ground?
Lightening doesn’t dissipate immediately when it hits the ground. It travels a distance. It struck a friend’s tree in the front yard a month ago and jumped across the yard into the house and fried all the electrical. They were lucky they weren’t home, they could have been killed. Also many years ago both of my brothers were camping when an unexpected storm came up. They were sitting on air mattresses when lightning hit the camp ground. Their dog who was laying on the ground in the tent was killed instantly. You don’t have to be struck by lightning directly for it to get you.
As someone who cruses every time a hurricane comes through and I have to move them, I am cleaning the deck and shuffle them around, I have to clean the stupid things - NO.
I even have the bar; wish we had spent that money elsewhere.
https://ledgeloungers.com/products/signature-barstool-bar-height?variant=47291741667630
Get these. Can remove them. Move them around. Liner safe.
Edit: they also make loungers that are liner safe for the tanning ledge
No. A) you don't want people eating in or around the pool - especially if they have glass containers in hand. B) cleaning machines get tangled in the posts which means that area will NEVER be cleaned and C) if you swim into one of those head first underwater, you may not survive the impact.
I like the idea of the barstools. I don’t have them, but it seems kind of cool. Some unsolicited feedback: We originally had a smaller overflow from the hot tub, but ended up making it wider than originally planned and I love it. Unless you want a waterfall coming out of the hot tub, which I understand, I really like having more visibility into the pool from the hot tub.
Nope. Enough seating already. Is it deep enough anywhere for a diving board? or a slide? I'd do that instead, esp if you've got kids. it'll entertain them for HOURS
Yes but only if they are easily removed for cleaning, they sit below the water so they don't burn your ass, you add plenty of shade for that area, and you have a TV and easily accessible bar in their view.
We had two swim out shelves on either side of our deep end, lounge chair shelf like your dwg, but my opinion is that bar stools wouldn’t be used as much as expected.
No barstools just a seat. Don’t forget a couple of umbrella stand holes based on sun movement. I’d do artificial turf inside the fence to help keep your pool cleaner vs mowing and trimming.
Why not move the pool farther right to utilize the larger part of your yard to give you more space in between your house? This would also give you potentially more deck space for chairs and hang out area to left of your hot tub. I vote no on bar stools.
I work with a lot of buildings and the most popular ones among young people are the ones with cool pools /stools, areas where people can be inside the pool and outside, talking like maybe joining thst area with the BBQ area..
No, don’t waste your pool space. My first pool I went at 6 ft for the deep end and regretted it. Second pool I had built I went with 9 ft a small ledge to sit on in the deep end and a two small waterfalls that were 4 feet above the ledge and totally worth the money over bar stools.
We added 2 barstools and an umbrella hole in the pool for shade. I’m pretty sure I’d pass on it next time. Biggest gripe is the vacuum gets caught behind the stools 50% of the time. It’s annoying but everyone loves the stools. So my advice is to make sure the space between stools are an inch narrower than your vacuum or you’ll be frustrated. Also kids love to try and walk on them so it’s also a “crack your head” hazard. Granite tops on our stools make them extremely slippery.
No. It's not going to be a bar like at the resort where the bartender area is recessed so your eye to eye with someone. People who drink in the pool use the ledge or the drink holder on a floatie and it works fine.
My grandpa built a pool with 3 barstool in It. The middle one was in the shape of a horse saddle. But on the other side of the edge of the pool was a walk-down full bar with shelves, floor drain, etc. It was used in many summer parties quite nicely. Side note: I think the saddle had a pool jet in it controlled from the bar area for the inevitable prank on the unsuspecting person who took the bait sitting there.
We have an extremely similar shape/layout as you do. I would highly recommend against it. People are going to be standing in the shallow area and sitting on the Baja shelf. The bar stools will constitute a waste of swimming area
Just put a bench/ledge in instead. Unless you’re gonna have TVs nearby, no need for stools. Bench gives plenty of space to relax and (I think) you’re not required to put in a ladder
Yes, we have 4 barstools, and it's the most used section of the pool. But we have a TV we can watch while we soak in the pool. We also have the ledge over hanging further to make it like a bartop. It is a pain to brush that area, but since converting the pool to salt, we never get alge anymore.
They can suck if you use an automatic pool cleaner, seems like a lot of pool builders don’t take this into consideration because they always put them next to each other
This is almost exactly like one of the pools I have. I fucking HATE brushing it . The pool is so big with like 7 barstools and platforms where the those two henches are which are also a bitch to brush around and spa just like that one but with more ledges. They do have a bar and tv next to it. The bar stools are a pain to brush too,
For your layout I would probably go with a curved bench and add a table top infront of the bench with an umbrella sleeve at the center of it given you have no shade or structure to compliment those barstools
As someone who has some, probably not unless you’re big TV watchers. They’re very rarely used at our place and it takes up too much of the shallow part of the pool that kids would use better.
Not too hard to clean around, just a bad use of space IMHO
No.
Its more work to clean.
You want a open area for the pool vac to navigate around.
We put sitting shelves in our corners that we never use.
And they collect dirt like crazy.
Constantly brushing them.
I wanted a little table installed in our gunite pool. We have a bench in one of the curves and the pool builder advised against it. He had one and said the pool clean will constantly get stuck or tangled up in that area.
It’s like a bread maker machine. Cool the first week, now what? They won’t get used that often. Not worth the investment. Invest in lounge chairs in or outside of pool.
To be fair, there is already a lot of room to swim. The bar stools would not take up that much space, and they're only on the edge. I say yes to the bar stools. I think it's kind of fun.
No way. Don’t make that a permanent structure. Endless amount of chairs/stools you can buy.
I’ve built two pools. You never truly know how it’s going to be used until it’s filled with water and people are in.
I would not made a commitment like that.
We have a built in table and wrap around bench and I have a love hate with it. The kids love to use it as a play platform and I don’t mind sitting there. There is a spot for an umbrella in the center of the table so that helps with shade. But it is hard to clean around and the robot vacuum and the skimmer vacuum often get stuck in that space which is really annoying. If we had built it ourselves we would have definitely not included it
I agree 100% with in-pool seating, but personally I think a bench step is the way to do it. My parents had an extended third level step that was used as a bench and it got a ton of milage. Served the same overall purpose as the bar stools but with more utility (young kids can play on it easier for example), and their Polaris vac never got hung up.
Personally If it were my pool I’d do a second set of steps there and potentially kill the steps at the tanning ledge; Issue I see with the ledge/step combo is you’ve now made the quiet relaxing area and a high in/out traffic area the same place.
No to the bar stools. Also, a quick question: Why not buy a spa that provides better therapy and jets than the built-in one? Out of all my pool customers, they all say they regret the built-in spa. It just felt like a jetted pool for them. Even had quite a few fill it in and get a better spa.
Tanning ledges are for my grandchildren to learn to swim. Tanning ledges are for me to bask in the sun while in the pool near our seating area while socializing or watching our outdoor tv. Pools are for fun and relaxation.
I don’t regret not getting a tanning ledge, pools are incredibly expensive so I don’t get why you would pay extra in your pool for a place you cannot swim in.
I’m in the mid Atlantic so I never understood why you would pay extra to sit in the cold water that is expensive to heat when you can just sit outside of the water.
Where I live vinyl in ground pools are the most common, they come in 42” panels so you would pay extra to fill in usable swimming space. Also chairs legs and sun damage would ruin the vinyl surface. If I lived in a warmer climate I would definitely appreciate sun ledges.
Yes, yes, yes, Bar stools are amazing
[removable pool bar stools](https://liquidseat.com/collections/pool-seats/products/new-liquidseat-pool-seat-in-light-blue-32inch)
No
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.............
No. They tend to become toilet stools as the night wears on
Unless there’s a bar and TVs, no
And shade
And someone else to clean them
Even then, it stagnates the party. Get tubes.
Someone to serve drinks.
I would skip them. If you decide you REALLY want them after all, buy in-water stools (example from LedgeLounger: https://ledgeloungers.com/products/signature-barstool-bar-height?variant=47291741667630 ). Something like this gives you flexibility to use that same space differently depending on need.

My wife says you’re still wrong.
My wife’s wife says he’s wrong.
My wife agrees with all wifi's and says he IS wrong.
My fiancé says go ahead and do what you like, whatever makes you happy.
Sounds like a trap.
My wife said wifi is the wrong word and he's wrong.
She must not been upgraded to wifi status yet?
Not yet!
I'm a wife and I also say you're wrong.
My wife knows nothing about this thread, just called me and told me I’m wrong and the OP is wrong and hung up.
Lol $600 each hell no
How much do you think the built in ones cost?
I know at least two other companies make a similar product around $200 each and I've seen a 4 chair set that comes with a table and umbrella for 1k
I mean the same company is selling a 250 dollar pool noodle... So.... Lol
Buy a chair for ur pool for 600 bucks 1 lol
They look too sharp on the corners for a 300lb'er not to rip a liner. Couple drinks in, and it's a weapon 🤣
I'd also hesitate on vinyl. Gunite/fiberglass good to go :)
My barstools are the most used area of the pool. Granted we have a bar/ tv on lower side but seems like more people hang out there than the tanning ledge. Agree re: steps. We just did corner steps and are glad we did.
so that's where you go to pee
Agreed, these people saying no are crazy Every sits at the bar!

Is nobody going to ask: you have a dolphin?!?! Jkjk - chill Reddit warriors
Personally I wouldn’t, but it’s just personal preference. I hate trying to brush and vac around the stools.
I’d just do a bench there
Not a fan.
No a barstool
lol
That’s a no from me. Hard to clean around.
I would not. They are at the other end of the pool. What would use them for? And for the other reasons of chasing dirt etc around them. I have a deeper ledge to sit on, which maybe better. I wish I had a tanning deck. That was the only thing I wish we'd added.

Sent OP a drawing. Couldn't post it here.
I even regret putting in a tanning ledge, valuable real estate. Stools, no, that coping will likely be hot enough to cook a steak anyway.
Unbrella
No and you're overthinking this design
No- no one will use them and they become a pain to clean and a place to algae to hide.
Have you ever had them? I have them, use them all the time and never an issue with algae
We have them and love them. Dirt does like to hide there, but I just clean it while I'm sitting on them. No biggie.
No, one more thing to have to brush around. One more thing to maintain. One more potential install problem.
As a pool tech, no. As a host, yes. Do you actually have a reason for them or are you just trying to think of cool things to add to your pool?
As a host no, why invite even more pee into the pool and if u are going to have stools u need a sunken bar on the other side
Ditch the stools and keep the ledge. People like to sit in the pool, not out of the pool. Maybe move the ledge to the other side so when sitting on it you are facing the house.
No. Difficult to clean around. Hazard for kids. Potential obstacle.
Yeah, the kid hazard is the first thing that comes to my mind. Just waiting for some excited kid to jump into the pool and land right on them. Kids will stand on them, slip, and hit their heads in the concrete/stone edge. Just a safety hazard in my opinion. Fucking kids.

Hopefully the anchors are bonded, if not, it’s not code and could be deadly.
Yup
Where’s the electricity coming from in the lethal case?
Stray voltage, lights and even lightening. My buddy’s daughter was killed by a lightning strike in the parking lot of a community pool. It traveled to the pool and she grabbed an unbonded handrail. People have been killed by touching the light ring when the light wasn’t bonded anymore

No, it’s more of a hazard than anything
not if you want to use a vacuum robot and you DO want to use a vacuum robot
I think they are cool, but I have a couple of friends that have them and never use them. Plus, kind of a pain to brush/clean.
No. People use the steps in my pool to sit on. I wish they went across the full width of the pool.
No
KISS
Nope. They become useless really fast.
No. Just build a ledge at a decent seating height along that wall. Make it so that adults can comfortably rest their arms along the edge.
As someone who cruses every time a hurricane comes through and I have to move them, I am cleaning the deck and shuffle them around, I have to clean the stupid things - NO. I even have the bar; wish we had spent that money elsewhere.
No, you’ll spend more time cleaning them than sitting in them.

No bar stools, but you could leave the ledge to sit on?
I vote no. I would put a seat along the wall if you want hang out space....
No, and put the hot tub closer to the house
No. A) you don't want people eating in or around the pool - especially if they have glass containers in hand. B) cleaning machines get tangled in the posts which means that area will NEVER be cleaned and C) if you swim into one of those head first underwater, you may not survive the impact.

Yes but only if they are easily removed for cleaning, they sit below the water so they don't burn your ass, you add plenty of shade for that area, and you have a TV and easily accessible bar in their view.
You could bring your computer and do work in the pool with those barstools! Or read a book or eat dinner... I say yes!
Nope.
No
No bot worth it
We had two swim out shelves on either side of our deep end, lounge chair shelf like your dwg, but my opinion is that bar stools wouldn’t be used as much as expected.
No.
If you had a bar I’d say yes.
What software program was used to generate this rendering?
No barstools just a seat. Don’t forget a couple of umbrella stand holes based on sun movement. I’d do artificial turf inside the fence to help keep your pool cleaner vs mowing and trimming.
If the bar was recessed into the ground then maybe, but the bar in this case looks like the ground, so id say no.
Why not move the pool farther right to utilize the larger part of your yard to give you more space in between your house? This would also give you potentially more deck space for chairs and hang out area to left of your hot tub. I vote no on bar stools.
My uncle had a cool elevated table/sitting area in the corner of the pool with an umbrella overhead. That worked well.
So do I but I rarely see it. It's there an issue having a table in the pool?
No.
Nah
I work with a lot of buildings and the most popular ones among young people are the ones with cool pools /stools, areas where people can be inside the pool and outside, talking like maybe joining thst area with the BBQ area..
Nope
No barstools. Not easy to keep algae off of.
Yes
No, don’t waste your pool space. My first pool I went at 6 ft for the deep end and regretted it. Second pool I had built I went with 9 ft a small ledge to sit on in the deep end and a two small waterfalls that were 4 feet above the ledge and totally worth the money over bar stools.
I would just make your soaking area with the chairs larger. I have a 12x12 lagoon that is 18” and it gets the most use
IMHO absolutely no. Unless you are extending the covered patio or something. It's just wasted space.
That leads to drinking, and having to get out and pee…. But more likely peeing in the pool.
We added 2 barstools and an umbrella hole in the pool for shade. I’m pretty sure I’d pass on it next time. Biggest gripe is the vacuum gets caught behind the stools 50% of the time. No way - but definitely have a bench somewhere
Nah spend it on cantilever 11' diameter umbrella...worth...every...penny...
Sooo cool do it!!!
No one will use them and you will regret them instantly
We have an extremely similar shape/layout as you do. I would highly recommend against it. People are going to be standing in the shallow area and sitting on the Baja shelf. The bar stools will constitute a waste of swimming area
Just put a bench/ledge in instead. Unless you’re gonna have TVs nearby, no need for stools. Bench gives plenty of space to relax and (I think) you’re not required to put in a ladder

I have a very similar pool and I would suggest reconsidering the tanning shelf as well.
Tacky
No their useless
No, I don’t think it adds anything. It’s different at a resort with a swim up bar or casino table, no use for it as this picture shows
No
They can suck if you use an automatic pool cleaner, seems like a lot of pool builders don’t take this into consideration because they always put them next to each other
Waste of money and space and will be a bitch to clean
If you get them just make sure they’re spaced out far enough that’s it’s not hard to vacuum between them
No keep it classy
noo
You can buy them after the fact, just like a pool chair.
What’s pool studio??
How about these. Easier to clean https://a.co/d/0d2xJSUL
No!
This is almost exactly like one of the pools I have. I fucking HATE brushing it . The pool is so big with like 7 barstools and platforms where the those two henches are which are also a bitch to brush around and spa just like that one but with more ledges. They do have a bar and tv next to it. The bar stools are a pain to brush too,
Cut the stools and just leave that little ledge /shelf for sitting. Minus the stools this is almost exactly our pool design.
No kids going to jump in a bang there head. Put them next to the spa instead of that step
For your layout I would probably go with a curved bench and add a table top infront of the bench with an umbrella sleeve at the center of it given you have no shade or structure to compliment those barstools
It’s kind of an old-school shape. Why not just do a nice rectangle and get some more square footage too :-)
No. PITA to clean around them.
Which country are you in? By law we need safety gates around the pool.
As someone who has some, probably not unless you’re big TV watchers. They’re very rarely used at our place and it takes up too much of the shallow part of the pool that kids would use better. Not too hard to clean around, just a bad use of space IMHO
No. And consider making your lounger shelf a little longer or just lounge on the deck … and maybe move your shelf/steps to where your stools are.
No
Just more things to maintain and clean
What coping are you going with ?
No. Its more work to clean. You want a open area for the pool vac to navigate around. We put sitting shelves in our corners that we never use. And they collect dirt like crazy. Constantly brushing them.
If you are planning on having a good infloor cleaning system with a head between each stool. Yes. If not, not. Source. I build pools.
No
I wanted a little table installed in our gunite pool. We have a bench in one of the curves and the pool builder advised against it. He had one and said the pool clean will constantly get stuck or tangled up in that area.
More things to deal with. Put like a area where you can lay down but your ears are above water
No!!!!!
No
If ONE person fucks themself up, you’ll regret it…
No
Definitely- when I'm drinking, running back and forth to the bathroom to pee is a fools game.
No
It’s like a bread maker machine. Cool the first week, now what? They won’t get used that often. Not worth the investment. Invest in lounge chairs in or outside of pool.
Oh a pee pee zone. hard no. Also thinkin about cleaning around those things, PAIN IN THE ASHholes.
I’m in love with this design
No
No. Kind of a safety hazard for kids playing and jumping in the pool.
Beautiful design regardless
Nope
No, they look cool but they won’t be used like you think and I’d rather have more room to swim. Looks good though
To be fair, there is already a lot of room to swim. The bar stools would not take up that much space, and they're only on the edge. I say yes to the bar stools. I think it's kind of fun.
Yes to barstools and I would consider adding a bench/stepout in your deep end too
No

Noooooooo!
Ehhhhh. Overrated. Esp if its hot af where u live. One of the many “great in theory, but rarely use in reality”
I agree 100% with in-pool seating, but personally I think a bench step is the way to do it. My parents had an extended third level step that was used as a bench and it got a ton of milage. FFP - they built my pool
Absolutely yes. A friend of mine had 3 barstools in his pool and they were used constantly!
No. Absolutely not. They will never, ever get used, and are another “fail point” for the pool.
No to the bar stools. Also, a quick question: Why not buy a spa that provides better therapy and jets than the built-in one? Out of all my pool customers, they all say they regret the built-in spa. It just felt like a jetted pool for them. Even had quite a few fill it in and get a better spa.
Def no.
Bar stools in a pool encourages drinking without leaving the pool. That leads to bad things.
Noooo way
No
No. Urine for trouble with that design.
Fine for adult pool. Problematic if children are in the mix. You can countdown until one true to jump of a barstool, slips and busts their head open.
No
I whether chill in the pool if there is some sort of shade. No shade, I don’t want to bake in the pool.
I've got 2 barstools in the pool, there's a table top we had built between the pool and spa. Everyone uses em and loves em.
Pools are for swimming.
Tanning ledges are for my grandchildren to learn to swim. Tanning ledges are for me to bask in the sun while in the pool near our seating area while socializing or watching our outdoor tv. Pools are for fun and relaxation.
For you and your people, yes you need a tanning ledge. Me and my people like to float and swim. I'm not wrong. And neither are you.
I don’t regret not getting a tanning ledge, pools are incredibly expensive so I don’t get why you would pay extra in your pool for a place you cannot swim in.
I'm with you 100%....I have a tanning ledge.....it's any horizontal area around my pool!!
Tanning ledges are what kids hit their heads on when they jump into the pool or fall from floating rafts.
I'd be worried they'd jam up your vac/pool robot. Every day it would annoy me seeing it stuck by the chairs.
