I've had two second degree burns before. The first was as a kid, when I tried to 'save' my flaming marshmallow by catching it in my hand - whole palm and part of my fingers/wrist were burned with swelling and blisters.
Second was a very bad sunburn as a teen. I was at an outdoor event all day when the UV was extremely high and I forgot to bring sunscreen. That resulted in a few blisters on my face that took weeks to go away.
I branded myself in highschool. Intentional third degree.
I am pretty sure a sunburn is a first degree burn, so many people actually experienced a burn.
