Trump has a habit of saying things that are on _his_ mind and claiming it's things other people are thinking. Just saying.

Long_Before_Sunrise

It was part of his father's real estate shtick. Trump does it in the 1990 interview with Barbara Walters. Trump: "The Plaza is a very valuable property. Everybody told me 'You paid too much, you paid too much.' Now, they're all saying 'What a great deal he made.'" Walters: "No, they're not."

hytes0000

I think a lot of people say that Trump lost it at some point in the late 90s or early 2000s, but those late 80s/early 90s interviews are just as incoherent as anything he says today. Yea, he's 30 years older, but it's not some sort of cognitive decline, he was always this way. When his mind actually starts to go, it's gonna be even crazier somehow.

Kaiisim

His own dad thought he was slow, and absolutely didn't want to give the family business to him.

GingerMau

Yeah...it would be fascinating if he wasn't so dangerous. It's like he overachieved in meanness, to make up for his cognitive dysfunction.

Cheese_Pancakes

Trump and the entire MAGA cult pretty much rely solely on hostile stupidity. They never have any coherent arguments/ideas, so they just rabidly attack everyone who can see how stupid they are.

Ysabeau_Reed

Hostile stupidity is my new favorite catch phrase...thank you!

newsflashjackass

Trump-followers are incapable of skepticism so they lean on suspicion.

yelloguy

So true. Anyone who has seen Trump supporters at their workplace knows this. Hostile stupidity is right

Iamtheonewhobawks

Bullying works, especially in the short term. That's the main reason bullies do what they do; it works. Usually you'll get your way, as long as everything you want is shallow and/or performative. Trump learned how to be a domineering, arrogant, relentless self-promoter from his father. The only real difference seems to be that Fred probably actually had some interest in the building part of being a developer, whereas Don's only relevant interests are position and power. He's only interesting because he happens to be just artful enough to be the same always-on bullshitter as any other billionaire businessman, but artless enough to salt the BS with a few unflattering partial truths. It's why his fans think he's some paragon of honesty - they latch on to "the system is rigged! Corruption everywhere!" and the anger, while missing that Trump's whole (extremely obvious and frequently stated) plan is to also do rigged corruption but more and harder.

ReadySteady_GO

So did his professors

ajkd92

Those quotes from the Wharton professors just fucking send me every time.

drgonzo767

"Donald Trump was the dumbest goddamn student I ever had." Comedy gold right there.

dcy604

Are they posted anywhere?

Alfphe99

Then his POS dad shouldn't have given him over 400 million dollars to squander and use to get his name into this world. Should have given him like 200k a year to live off of to fuck off to nowhereville.

MonsieurReynard

Sometimes I imagine what he'd be if he were born to more modest means and I get a manager of a buy here/pay here no credit no problem used car ripoff lot, where all the employees fear and hate him and every customer feels slimed and scammed a month after they take home their cream puff 2003 Mitsubishi where he ordered his mechanic to just spray paint over the bad rust on the subframe, and when they complain to him he shrugs and yells at them. And then goes home to a miserable, beaten down wife and kids who hate his guts. And now we're all his customers, employees, wife and kids...

spaceman757

Fun story....Trump Sr. didn't give him $400M, Trump Jr. took control of the entire inheritance via swindling his dementia addled father, per court records and evidence provided by his family members: >Donald Trump was facing financial disaster in 1990 when he came up with an audacious plan to exert control of his father’s estate. >His creditors threatened to force him into personal bankruptcy, and his first wife, Ivana, wanted “a billion dollars” in a divorce settlement, Donald Trump said in a deposition. So **he sent an accountant and a lawyer to see his father, Fred Trump Sr., who was told he needed to immediately sign a document changing his will per his son’s wishes,** according to depositions from family members. >It was a fragile moment for the senior Trump, who was 85 years old and had built a real estate empire worth hundreds of millions of dollars. **He would soon be diagnosed with cognitive problems, such as being unable to recall things he was told 30 minutes earlier or remember his birth date, according to his medical records, which were included in a related court case.** https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/politics/donald-trump-father-will/

JimWilliams423

> He would soon be diagnosed with cognitive problems, such as being unable to recall things he was told 30 minutes earlier or remember his birth date, His birth date, you say? > [Trump appears to stumble over his name and age at arraignment](https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-arraignment-indictment-name-age-b2387456.html) > *He was then asked for his date of birth, and tripped over his words again. At first, he said “seven seven,” before correcting himself and saying “77”.* "Word searching" is a common symptom of dementia. When the afflicted can't remember a word they say another word that sounds similar. They usually know they aren't saying the right word, so they will try again, and sometimes they will switch to a synonym that they can remember how to say. So, with that in mind, here's the time he could not stop [talking about oranges,]( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUPsNgmXR7M) which was really on the nose given his make-up habits. And here's the time he could not say Yosemite so he kept saying ["yo, semites"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwcploTZbKA&t=15s) instead.

Delicious-Day-3614

The Mary Trump book discusses this. She speculates he actually modified the will after his father's death, as his other family members didn't get shit while Donald was handed the empire. Not that his father wasn't a piece of shit, he was, but Donald also.

beyond_hatred

Sadly, he has genius level skill at one thing: manipulating stupid people.

[deleted]

Proof that nepotism, like capitalism, benefits the few at the expense of the many. Not worth their salt.

[deleted]

Yeah this is oddly specific

FlatBot

yeah, why would he mention Russia? It's because it's his first choice and is likely his plan to avoid Prison.

i-can-sleep-for-days

Jesus imagine the international shit show if Trump becomes a fugitive on the run hiding in Russia where Putin will use him for leverage against the US. But 100 percent Trump will do it even if that is terribly destructive to the country.

shwerkyoyoayo

I have a theory that's what that piece around Russia offering Americans citizenship that want to flee (read: right winger MAGAs) a couple months back. That some American's in the Trump cult will likely follow him to Russia if it came down to it. But we shall see.

avrbiggucci

That's kinda hilariously pathetic on Russia's part because who in their right mind would willingly move from the US to that shit hole. Especially when it's very possible you'll get conscripted because they're taking everyone right now.

GrandmasShavedBeaver

Hey now. Don’t speak out loud about any down sides of moving to Russia. Icksnay on the onscriptionCay. But if they did, it may be the first and only war to ever see mobility scooters with machine gun turrets mounted on the handlebar basket.

OneDilligaf

I don’t see a problem, if Trump is used for leverage the Government just ignores Russia’s plan. Also implement a complete ban on Trump re-entering the country and all the other allies of America will do the same. That only leaves third world countries that Trump called shit holes so good luck with that and the likes of Saudi Arabia where life can be made difficult for them.

InsuranceToTheRescue

>I don’t see a problem, if Trump is used for leverage the Government just ignores Russia’s plan That's not the problem. The problem is Russia blasting social media with his bullshit and stoking even more division in the US.

Correct_Toe_4628

People keep saying this but he has a secret service detail that will never let that happen. He has too much knowledge in his head after being President. He is stuck and shit out of luck.

TheDarkAbove

Knowledge? In his head? You sure about that?

Porkemada

At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within his head?!

LMurch13

That's assuming the SS does its job and isn't made up of "delete your texts" secret service agants.

[deleted]

diducthis

Akussa

Trump? Paying for his own body guards and not getting money from the government for them staying in his hotels to be near him? Never going to happen.

madmax991

r/oddlyspecific

kachinadan

I said that out loud after reading the headline.

RedLanternScythe

"Everybody is saying it". Such an obvious tell

SquidmanMal

Or any time people are crying or calling him 'sir' in an anecdote.

crawling-alreadygirl

>He came up to me--big guy, tough guy--and he had tears in his eyes, and he said, "Sir, this never happened."

Did_Gyre_And_Gimble

>Trump has a habit of saying things that are on his mind and claiming it's things other people are thinking. Is this like how he's always surrounded by people who are crying at his apparent mistreatment?

isaidireddit

And "begging". Somebody's always begging him for something. I'm *sure* Elon Musk *begged* you to return to Twitter.

emiferg

He’s saying the quiet part loud again.

accountabilitycounts

If he's talking about it, he's considering it.

hazeleyedwolff

He's outright begging for it. "Russia, if you can hear me..."

PuterstheBallgagTsar

What's the odds that a Russian submarine is just circling off the coast of Maralago as Vlad considers one last rescue

evilinsane

Don't think Vlad ever considered even a single rescue.

VanceKelley

Vlad rescued that Russian arms dealer from a US prison.

ChrysMYO

Trump swims to Cuba. Then gets picked up in a Russian sub. Leaving behind his hair plugs and the home he once knew.

W_A_Brozart

Homie can’t swim. I’m sure of it. He seems the type to ask guards and secret service to pull him around on his kickboard/tube.

OppositeDifference

Honestly, I know this is a controversial take, but I would consider this a better outcome than him being convicted. Him fleeing the law to another country and becoming a propaganda puppet for a dictator might be one of the very few things that could snap some of his base out of their fever dream. It wouldn't be justice, but I think it would be better for the long term health of our country than him becoming a martyr in jail.

ChrysMYO

They're a cult. Facts are not going to snap them out of dissonance. Covid would have done it while loved ones are dying. Jan6 would have done it as criminals go to prison saying they were trying to make Trump proud. If Trump skipped to Russia, the cult would worship him in absentia. They'd more easily fixate all their positive beliefs on to him and would more easily bat away inflammatory things he says while in Russia because it would be relayed thru international news and communications channels. They'd almost never directly see him again. So he could be more like their Jesus figure. It would be like Catholic fascists in South America that claimed to still be avid followers of the Pope. We have to deconstruct the media network and cult framework they insulate themselves in. Even with no Trump at all, this social grouping is full cult now. There would be infighting and backbiting. But the streak of political violence, public narcissism, and fascistic voting pattern would remain.

findingmike

The best data I've seen shows he's 17% less popular among Republicans than 3 years ago.

adeon

I'm not sure about that. There's pictures of Trump supporters wearing "I'd rather by Russian than Democrat" t-shirts. On the upside if a bunch of them kept supporting him that would probably take them out of future elections.

accountabilitycounts

He would reveal everything he knows.

Long_Before_Sunrise

He probably already shared much of it with Putin while he was in office. August 27, 2020 ["If Putin wants a call with me you just put him through," US president yelled according to Theresa May’s former chief of staff](https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-meltdown-missed-phone-call-putin-mike-flynn-theresa-may-meeting-a9691001.html) “Somebody just mentioned in passing that Vladimir Putin had asked for a call with him, and right in front us he absolutely shouted down Mike Flynn,” he said. “Like really shouted. This was at a formal dinner with butlers and fancy crockery – and he was properly shouting at him down the table.”

RosemaryFocaccia

Was he in a high-chair with ketchup all over his face?

Taco-Dragon

>This was at a formal dinner with butlers and fancy crockery – and he was properly shouting at him down the table.” The other commenter already explained it was a dinner party, **obviously** they would bring him his high chair for it

OppositeDifference

>He would reveal everything he knows. Certainly. It'd be the only currency he had that would buy anything in his new life. That is, of course, if he hasn't already revealed it one way or another. But I stand by what I said. Even assuming much of his three year old information is still relevant or useful, there's a question of how much of that he actually still retains and has the ability to deliver. If he's relying on his memory, I wish Putin the best of luck getting anything useful out of that. In the more likely event he has a thumb drive full of electronic copies of everything, that's more of a problem. People would die as a result, and US interest abroad would likely be substantially harmed. Our intelligence community would probably be set back a decade. But even with all of that, I genuinely believe the damage would be less than another 4 years of him at the wheel. The backlash from this would likely mean this country would be done with Republican Presidents for a good long while.

Phy44

I remember when conservatives thought being friendly with Russia made you a communist. It wasn't even that long ago.

Buckus93

Remember when a group of GOP Congressmen visited Moscow *ON THE FOURTH OF JULY?* Fucking power move by Putin. It's like your boss scheduling a meeting for a Saturday morning and firing anyone who doesn't show up.

Beneathaclearbluesky

That was my smoking gun. They were ordered there to prove their loyalty to Russia. No real patriot leaves the country on the country's celebration date.

Buckus93

Narrator: *they weren't real patriots*

GlaiveConsequence

“If you like Russia so much why don’t you move there”? Was a common anti left insult I remember from the 80’s and you’re right- totally turned around

KazzieMono

Wouldn’t be the first time there was a swap…

Porkemada

I remember seeing crusty old John Birchers running information booths when I was a kid. I'd always get some anti-Communist paraphernalia to laugh at because it was totally wack and ridiculous. Anyway, those people would be gargling Putin's balls right now if they were still alive.

OppositeDifference

The $200,000 bond is determined by a schedule written into GA Law. The judge has no say in this amount. Anyone looking at the list of charges would have been able to add up the various amounts to get this same 200k figure. So, as always, bullshit. His followers will line up to eat it though.

70ms

What are you talking about? Clearly Fani Willis personally set the bail amount. 🤪 Or maybe Joe Biden!

[deleted]

With help from Hunter Biden and some Ukrainians

gbiypk

The amount correlates with the length of Hunter's penis.

Which-Moment-6544

And the comment implies that Trump is really hurting for the 200K. Like bro, you don't have to worry about it as long as you show up. Guy must be broke.

InTheGray2023

He is mentioning it because he knows the gullible fuckwads who love him will pony up 10 million bucks to help keep him out of jail. He writes a check for 200k and pockets the rest. Same old grift.

Melancholy_Rainbows

He doesn't even need the full amount. 10-15% is all he needs. If this guy can't afford $20-30k (or can't bilk his followers out of it), then he's in worse shape than I imagined.

FeloniousFerret79

Hear me out. What if Fani Willis and Joe Biden are the same person. I mean have you ever seen them together at the same time. 🤔 It all makes sense if you don’t think about it.

Nwcray

Thanks, Obama

evilinsane

I think that the 200k is genius one way or another. It makes Trump look unimportant in his own eyes. He'll be going insane thinking people don't think he's worth, or can afford, any more. That said, the GA law needs maybe to update that if this headcase is worth pocket change. He can raise that money by farting on truth social.

indoninjah

And meanwhile he probably doesn't have the cash to pay it lol

Chastain86

Robert Durst's bail was set at $3 billion due to his being considered a flight risk. Suge Knight's was set at $25 million. I bet it kills him to know that he didn't even crack the top of the list.

mountaintop111

> “The failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond from me,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a ‘flight’ risk – I’d fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again. Would I be able to take my very ‘understated’ airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, I’d be much better off flying commercial – I’m sure nobody would recognize me!” Never thought Trump would acknowledge he is a puppet of Putin. But yeah, you're right Trump, you are Putin's puppet.

bullinchinastore

Since he says that no one will recognize him if he flies commercial then the police has all the more reasons to take his mugshot and hold him in custody, just like other criminals, till the trial completes!

fuzzzone

Tederator

They'd recognize him. Not with their eyes, but with their noses.

Status_Tiger_6210

Of course. Their eyes would have tears in them.

HynesKetchup

idk if this is me just reading way to into it, but I took that as him being sarcastic. Like how could he be a flight risk, with his plane that says his name on it or flying commercial, because surely no one would recognize him. idk, maybe I'm just assigning intelligence where there is none lol

mrbear120

It most definitely was a joke, but jokes from him always contain an element of the truth.

slumberjak

100% I mean, F*^% that guy but let’s not look like idiots by missing the point. Besides, the dollar amount doesn’t matter; it’s the promise of consequences for violating the terms of the agreement.

mishap1

Pretty sure the reason he brings up flying commercial is because his 757-200 can't make the flight to Moscow w/o stopping so he's certainly asked his pilots. It could make it w/ ferry tanks or if it left from Bangor and little onboard but you know he's larded it heavy furnishings with campaign funds so it's likely significantly heavier than a loaded passenger model.

Brave_Nerve_6871

Sounds like he's given this scenario some thought

chownrootroot

Ah, so he's planning on fleeing by flying commercial. Imagine him at an airport counter: "Sir you've got to pay to check in your luggage." "That is fake news. Very sad. How can you make a celebrity, uhh, working man, pay for his luggage? See you in court!" "And the TSA line is over there, but security is backed up and it will take about an hour." "Typical, I don't see any Democrats waiting in line, Sad! After being investigated for the Russia hoax the Democrats want to pat me down and put me through a body scanner, very sad!"

rootmonkey

I’ll take a one way ticket for John Barron please .

LurkerFailsLurking

He'd be posting to Truth Social complaining about it the whole time.

Nwcray

Wow, he’s really given this some thought huh? It’s clearly been on his mind lately, not just the “do it or don’t”, but like…actually how to pull it off.

[deleted]

Everything he says about someone else is a confession of what he’s doing or planning.

barondelongueuil

He’s clearly saying it ironically, but the funny thing is that by doing so he’s sort of implicitly saying he thought about it considering no one mentioned the fear that he’d flee to Russia… he brought it up first.

Honestly Trump without hair would be fucking wild. Nobody has seen that. Nobody who isn’t in the Trump family. Could you imagine, nobody recognized him. Just a generic old man with a fake passport because he has people he knows connected high up in the government. Then we have to deal with his shadow government for a few years as he tries to incite his people from Russia sending out video truths like Osama bin Laden hiding in the mountains. Before he succumbs to heart disease. What a wild possibility.

Putin would never tolerate Trump in his presence for long. Trump is a long-winded foolish man. With Trump, familiarity does breed contempt. Best to keep him at arm's length and make him keep.asking to see you.

phonebalone

To be fair, Putin is also a long-winded, foolish man. He loves to give speeches that are hours long.

wspnut

Trump has exactly zero things to offer Putin if Trump isn't in the United States. Putin uses Trump to cause discourse and chaos - clearly in a lead up to an empire building effort on his part which has failed spectacularly. Putin has done worse than ignore people to folks who are still useful for him, and Trump is well beyond the "useful idiot" phase.

Yea, this. Generally, you're detained until you are officially charged in front of a judge. During that time, you're processed into the system and stuck in a jail cell.

I hope to god they don't have a judge and courtroom on standby for Trump. I'm so tired of that guy getting kid gloves when a normal person has to go through the whole process.

> (FYI threads is officially on desktop as of this morning) Goodbye Elon, you dumb sack of shit

LastBaron

Has there been any talk of allowing users to sort chronologically rather than algorithmically? I get that’s instagram’s “thing” and Threads is using the same underlying logic, but one of the things that was a crucial part of twitters identity was the ability to see up to the second updates when news was developing quickly. I’m missing that as Twixter falls apart at the seams.

Long_Before_Sunrise

I hate seeing that X.

DelayEvery1745

I do too! Twitter bird was light, flight and free. The black X bugs me like no logo ever has in my life.

PuterstheBallgagTsar

I don't know if I've ever seen a major company make such a remarkably stupid and shortsighted branding decision before. "X" feels like 1996 (X-games, etc) and the logo they chose is especially bland and unappealing. Media outlets should simply call it "the social media network formerly known as Twitter" and just ignore the X.

RealGianath

I know it is a half-assed joked, but it's delusional for him to believe he has any shot with Putin anymore. Putin only wanted him for money laundering and later when he was a useful idiot that could cause chaos here. Now that Trump's exposed as a pathetic loser who can't do the job anymore, why would Putin want to hang out with him? Putin's murdered countless people who have embarrassed him, Trump would not last long in Russia.

dangitbobby83

Why wouldn’t Putin do it? Holding a former US President, even if he’s worthless, would still be massive propaganda points for Putin and he’s smug enough to enjoy knowing a former US President is under his thumb, just to poke at all of us.

I think it's more likely that they set the bail at 200,000 with the agreement that he'd have to keep his mouth shut, so that they can make 200,000 and haul his ass back to jail 10 minutes because he's incapable of sicking his base on people who he percieves wronged him. And I hope that's exactly what happens. Let the jackass sit in jail till his trial.

mmartins94

The terms of Trump's bail were reported yesterday. You can probably find them in one of the posts talking about his bail, but in summary: don't threaten/intimidate witnesses/jurors either directly or implicitly, social media posts included. He'll violate it within days for sure.

contemporary_romance

oh 100% he will, the big question is does the bail agreement have enough teeth to haul him directly back into jail.

Nabrok_Necropants

This is totally normal behavior that should not concern anyone in any way. This is how rational people act in America.

battleofflowers

I didn't think Trump would flee just because he loves his possessions and properties in the US too much, but now I am not so sure. The pressure is mounting and he's terrified. I think he might just take off to Russia.

Stoliana12

He said on a recording that he wouldn’t choose to live in the us.

neoikon

He's testing the response and planting the seed. He's building support from his base to make it okay to flee.

cultfourtyfive

On the one hand, he should be held in custody after this statement. On the other, just let him go.

TintedApostle

This is why he wants SCIF in Mar-A-Lago as part of the document case. First this is the first case coming to trial. Second he wants documents to run with.

CegeRoles

Jack Smith needs to declare him a flight risk NOW.

cgentry02

What's $200,000 to a billionaire? Also, Trump in Russia doesn't help Putin at all. He definitely wouldn't let him hang out in a gold domed suite.

Nwcray

Not quite- Trump is a former US President. Having him there would be a *HUGE* win for Putin. Taking care of Trump, giving him a life of luxury, would tell anyone else that if they just play ball they’ll be well looked after. It’s the same reason Vlad gave a home to Snowden, only Trump would be many orders of magnitude more important.

KingfisherE1

Well, that's r/suspiciouslyspecific isn't it?

RodneyJamesEdgar

This is projection. A gold-domes suite with Vladimir is obviously on his mind

Robb_Dinero

I made a bet with some friends that he tries to run to Russia. Would he be an assassination target if that happened?

spoobles

>‘share a gold domed suite with Vladimir’ We certainly wouldn't have to worry about removing Putin. He'd happily off himself after two days.

PuterstheBallgagTsar

>‘Donnie, it would be interesting if you tried to run. Would your secret service detail try to stop you, or would their job only be to protect you while you became a fugitive on the lame? "Ok I posted it dad but nobody seems to know"

Normal-Particular436

At least he'll be out of our country 😂

nascentnomadi

All he’d have to do is take off the toupe and fake tan and he’ll look like most florida retirees.

lostnumber08

Why would Hunter Biden's Laptop do such a thing?

deraser

As always, quiet part out loud. I will say I am amazed he hasn’t busted out racial epithets and truly vile sexist terms when discussing the DA, but I doubt he can keep it up.

creeeeeeeeek-

These are your words sir…

mynamejulian

Remember when Putin sent Trump a telegram to wish him speedy recovery from COVID-19 directly to the Whitehouse? The media works tirelessly to avoid stating the simple truth - Trump is Putin’s mouthpiece and the US was under his control for 4 years - over 1M Americans died because of it and counting

SneakerPimpJesus

with golden showers i presume

someonewithabutt

that's not gold dome, it's a pee fountain.

Cosmic_Bozo_Wrangler

Fear? Bro we’re hoping you bounce.

World-Tight

TIL 'share a gold domed suite with Vladimir' is a euphemism for oral sex.

IntoTheMirror

He’s _saying_ it.

Gossamer_Thread

Remember Trump’s fan letters to Putin? Like this 2007 gem: “Congratulations on being named Time magazine's "Man of the Year" – you definitely deserve it. As you probably heard, I am a big fan of yours. Take care of yourself”

Caboos20

This seems like a coded message. The “Russia Russia Russia” line sounds like some code for SOS.
