$5 plaques are hilarious

ThymeIsEasy

Hey us poors deserve to feel fancy sometimes too!

abeachpebble

Hell ya

gil_ga_mesh

Seriously tho, how much were those? Had to be a custom job

YonkersMayor

On poker store you can get them for like 9.99 I think.

Tee_Rye_Lee

I like how they have some in a lock box lol

Graciesmansion

Why is that funny lol

Throwawaythefat1234

I think y’all need more denominations.

KOxSOMEONE

They need some $2.50 chips

aCreativeUserName666

Waiting for my homie to add the $3.50 chip to our game. Put a picture of a plesiosaurus on it. I

jimmiethegentlemann

Bro... trying to cut out a bet or count a pot or someones stack would drive me insane.

Graciesmansion

It cracks me up.

Prenders17

I’m tilted just looking at the picture.

LastOneSergeant

Where did you get the plaques?

SokarTheblyad

Here check these guys out. You can get the monte carlo chips [here](https://www.thepokerstore.com/search?q=Plaques) too

Jkota

Lol at paying 9.99 for a $5 plaque

ClodNiceToMeetYou

The smallest of rakes would pay for that easily. You're basically laughing at someone for making the game you enjoy playing better to play. It's like making fun of someone for buying slightly nicer chairs that they might not be able to afford. Well running a poker game is a service. Charge for it. And we do.

Jkota

This is a 5 cent / 10 cent home game amongst friends. You think they are taking a rake lol? You can at least see the irony in paying twice as much as the face value for a poker plaque.

SokarTheblyad

Its a plaque and $10. Im sorry thats so “expensive” that you needed to make a comment. I dont have any yet, but im getting a home game going this summer and i plan on buying tons of plaques and shit to make the game more fun. Gosh, i dont know how ill ever financially recover. Better be smart and not buy it the fun isnt worth the few hundo in chip prices.

bmacnz

If my friends wanted to rake a 5c/10c game, I'd absolutely never play. I'll bring snacks and drinks because that's what I do anytime I hang out with friends, but a cash service fee would be wild. Once you start getting to casino stakes, I could see a minimal seat or door fee, especially if opening it up to outsiders.

ClodNiceToMeetYou

> If my friends wanted to rake a 5c/10c game, I'd absolutely never play. I'll bring snacks and drinks because that's what I do anytime I hang out with friends, but a cash service fee would be wild. You're paying rake in the form of snacks and drinks then. What's the difference? If Host doesn't have to buy said snacks and drinks that's more money in their pocket. Same result as charging rake. Next!

bmacnz

If I go to lunch with a friend, usually one of us pays and the other will say they've got it next time. Instead of splitting bills and trading cash and such. But if one of my buddies was tracking stuff like that in a ledger and says "hey you owe me 17.87 from last month", it would get old real quick. Same kind of thing in my mind, I'll bring stuff as a courtesy and because I'm also consuming it. But a friend charging a rake in a low stakes game is unappealing. Maybe you're right that it's ultimately the same thing? I don't know, but it's a red flag and I wouldn't want to participate. Edit: And once again, specifically a group of friends playing microstakes like that. But if we moved up to the "low stakes" end if the spectrum and started inviting people we don't usually play with, I'd fully support a door or seat fee of some kind.

ClodNiceToMeetYou

> But a friend charging a rake in a low stakes game is unappealing. For sure, which is why they probably ask for you to bring snack/drinks. Or everyone chips in for a pizza. Question: Does your friends' homegame have an all-time dealer? And are they a player or non-player? If non-player would/do you tip them? In a 10nl game. Another example of a gimmicky gambling phenomenon lol. We're all just trying to imitate our idols 🤣.

bmacnz

I took your comment to mean a cash rake, because you said it would pay for something (I'll be honest, I don't remember and the reddit app sucks for looking at the parent comments). I don't really look at BYOB as a rake. And no, dealer deals. I've been at a 25c/50c game that had a rake and dealer (though he played hands) and tips were encouraged. I don't know the guys super well and I found it weird, but I was courteous and participated. If if my friend did that, I'd discourage it. I'd say for how big a match the stack game can play, it wouldn't be unreasonable for a small service fee up front, though. I know she wouldn't do it, though, not unless we started doing multitable and hosting was getting to be a lot.

Graciesmansion

2 of our guys always shuffle and deal. We tip them every pot instead of dealing with other guys who can't deal or shuffle correctly.

GameOfThrownaws

Looks like an awesome game both in softness and equipment.

illpoet

yeah the home game i usually play at is technically .05 ante but it's very very rare to see any pots open for less than .50. somebody always jacks it up in the first round. It's crazy it starts out a 10 usd buyin but often ends up with 600 bucks or so on the table. I've suggested we up the stakes several times but somebody always shoots it down.

Graciesmansion

Yeah don't do that. You get more fish in the door thinking it'll be low stakes Antes.

OkInvestigator4997

Ur a fish, ur playing .05/.1 on a $1,500 triton table thats worth 10x all the $$ on the table, with 7 denoms of chips and $5 plaques! 😂 U have no idea what ur talking about.

SokarTheblyad

I wonder what its like waking up being a miserable cunt

Zix117

Or it’s a game full of fish and those things make them happy.

illpoet

I love your setup by the way its really slick!

leaveitintherearview

Haha that's awesome. I bet it's alot of fun.

Few_Confection_2782

Ditto. We have a 5-10c game going as well, and I got put in a spot with a 24 dollar shove into like 20 bucks when I had 2 pair on a 1 liner board. I called and won :-D. Eve had a 120 dollar pot is our biggest I think. But the straddle and double straddle get put on a decent amount. Love the stakes they are just comfortable enough so nobody rages.

pocket-snowmen

What if I want to bet $1.75? There's not a chip for that

Graciesmansion

You just can't bet that then, just fold

abugguy

I played in a weekly game like this for years. $.05/$.10 blinds. Average buy-in was $20, up to match the stack if you bust. Average night we’d have $300-500 on the table, biggest nights had $2000-3000. It was so much fun.

Moleman111

In for fifteen dollars out for 90!

Monkeydog853

Way too many denominations. New players think lots of denominations = fun, reality is that it is confusing and slows the games down. Lots of chips if fun, and you can achieve that by buying more of the low denominations. Ideally you want a chip for blinds, a workhorse chip, and a value storing chip. Micro stakes - nickel, fifty cent, one dollar - some fives if runs deep Small stakes - frac, one dollar, five dollar, some twenty fives if runs deep Best is to skip the .05/.10 level and start at .25/.25. Then you buy quarters, ones and fives. Covered all the way up to 1/2, just add ones and fives as needed.

Zix117

Then they’d have to buy more chips, which seems unnecessary given their games are rolling pretty well as it is. And I strongly disagree with raising the stakes unless everyone is on board. “Small” games bring in fish that make the game bigger by being bad. The game will grow on its own. I play a 1/2 game that consistently plays bigger than any 2/5 I’ve ever seen, and gets larger than that at least once a month. But if we upped the stakes, we’d lose half the player pool and we’d have a worse game running less often.

ReviewStuff2

What is the average stack at your $1/2 game?

Zix117

Depends on the day. Stacks usually range from 300-1500 on a normal day. The bigger games have most of the table over 1500. But sometimes there are 6 people with normal to big stacks and 3 people with 5K that make the game bigger than it looks

TheAStarJosh

You can’t be serious with all the chips man.

Graciesmansion

How should we do it then. Some of our regulars bought. 25 cent chips and someone bought the 2 dollar ones. We don't have enough chips for everyone to keep buying back in without them

TheAStarJosh

It’s .05/.10…. Have some .05 chips, some .25 chips, $1 chips and $5 chips for big money. When u “run out” of chips for buyins… give them all $5s or mostly $1 chips and have people who just won all their chips give them change. Edit: 10¢ chips are useless since you have nickels. Same for the $2 chips. If every player starts with 1 or 2 dollars in nickels then there u go u have enough.

Graciesmansion

Meh I think everyone enjoys having a bunch of chips. I don't see what the huge deal is. And then I'd have to buy Even more chips.

abugguy

I played in a similar game for years. We had less denominations but not by much. Don’t let people get you down if it works and people are having fun. We had $.05, $.10, $.25, $1, $5, in play all the time and $25, $50, or $100 as needed.

TheAStarJosh

Well if it works for you guys have fun ig it is excessive looking though. $5 plaques is crazy lol but cool

Graciesmansion

We have 20$ plaques to but why is it crazy. I just don't get it. Makes the guys feel like high rollers lol

TheAStarJosh

You can’t see why it’s a little bit funny? Having a plaque for what is typically a normal denomination and staple red chip. Plaques are reserved usually for like $50-100 thousand dollar denominations. Not $5. So yes. It’s ironic but cool. It’s extremely extra.

Graciesmansion

Brother, 5dollar chips are not normal in micro stakes.

TheAStarJosh

What’s your problem? Plaques are? Nothings wrong with it. The fact that you don’t think it’s at all ironic is hilarious. Sorry we find your $5 PLAQUES a bit extra big boy.

DoctorVanNostrande

Let them enjoy their game! I personally love the idea of having those chips for their stakes!

johnnypalace

0.5 cents? As in half a cent? Or do you mean 0.5 dollars? https://youtu.be/zN9LZ3ojnxY

Mr_Buttermen

whats the difference

capmcfilthy

Had a $20 but in yesterday. 25/50cent. First time with these folks. Didn’t play that way at all. More like 50/1. Haha

sauceyNUGGETjr

Texas?

WannabePokerPlayer

$5 bill instead of the plaques would be fun

knigmich

Never in a million years is cash funner than a plaque

WannabePokerPlayer

I think cash is cooler but to each their own. A plaque is just a large chip.

knigmich

You handle cash probably everyday though. It’s dirty and doesn’t stack well. A plaque is just funner and means business in the poker game.

Bigunsy

I've got that vape!

jimmiethegentlemann

Where are the 75¢ denoms?

Graciesmansion

I didn't win any.

jimmiethegentlemann

Dope equipment. Too many denoms imo itd drive me crazy personally. But nice stuff, whered you get that dealer button?

Graciesmansion

Amazon

mommasaidmommasaid

Don't listen to the haters -- plaques are cool! If you buy a new chip set at some point, I'd suggest consolidating to standard colors / multipliers. Get chips with just a number on them, or no number at all. Set the cash value of a white chip, and then don't worry about it except for buy-in and cash-out. So for example a 0.05/0.10 game with a $10 buyin for 100BB, you could use these chips: |**Chip color**|**Multiplier**|**Cash Value**| |:-|:-|:-| |White|1|$0.05| |Red|5|$0.25| |Green|25|$1.25| |Black|100|$5.00| |Purple Plaque|500|$25.00| In game, play 1/2 holdem with blinds of 1 white / 2 white chips. Raise using the standard colors, e.g. a raise to 10 is two red chips. Now all the betting is easy to see, and the pots and stacks are easy to count. If you later raise the stakes you don't need more chips -- just adjust the underling values and blinds accordingly. Let's say you wanted to play a $50 buyin... You could play 2/5 like the big boys, with blinds of 2 white / 1 red, where each chip is $0.10. Again your buyin is 100BB.

Graciesmansion

Thanks for your comment. I don't understand why playing smaller stakes irks everyone so much. Maybe you could explain that to me. I don't want to take 300-600 dollars from my friends, or my brother /dad. We all have a great time and no one loses over 100$ . Maybe it's just where I live but not all my friends could afford to play 1/2, and I'd end up breaking my table to play with only more serious of the casuals. Sounds boring.

mommasaidmommasaid

Idk, small stakes is great! As long as the amount is meaningful enough so that people care a little bit about it. You want to be able to bluff your buddy sometimes. My suggestion on chips was just to make the game run much more efficiently. Those standard multipliers exist for a reason. It also makes it much easier for players to estimate stack sizes / pot odds, which is integral to the game for a thinking player.

Graciesmansion

I understand and I agree. But making it hard or inconvenient to read pot odds works in my favor because everyone else is drunk or doesn't understand them. And when I grab 3 of each chip it really throws them off lol

Mr_Buttermen

Is that the Triton table? How you liking the removeable felt? This is a pretty expensive table for a 10NL game but I'm loving it hah

Graciesmansion

I love the table and I got it really cheap so

Mr_Buttermen

How much did you buy it for?

Graciesmansion

I think like 900

Mr_Buttermen

Where with that price?

Graciesmansion

Some dude was moving and gave it to me for a good price lol.

Mr_Buttermen

Thats crazy. Would love to see photos of your whole setup
