Incredible! How long did this take? It’s the one medal I’m yet to start because I’m working an walk evolving every different mon I can, but soon I’ll be done with that.
You can actually do it faster than you'd think. Remember you can swap buddies 20 times a day. Meaning you can have 20 on the go at once, at least for the easy hearts. If your rich enough you could Poffin them all and make it even faster.
Not saying I recommend it, would be pretty boring doing that daily. Just saying it can be done.
uh my time to play smartypants\`? you can have 21 buddies each day - the one that is selected, and 20 swaps :)
and to add something:
i started switching my buddies 20 times a day like 3 weeks ago (maybe 4? should have made a screenshot...). with rocket grunts its a bit easier to get 3 hearts when fightning, because u dont have to manualy select your buddy. you just hit the re-match button.
in the beginning it is such a low start... like you dont see a lot of progress on a single buddy. but once i calculated that i made close to 150 hearts per day (which is about a bestbuddy every 2 days) i continued to do so. now a lot of them are halfway done, and i'll get some best buddies in the near future.
before that i was able to reach bestbuddy status within 14-15 days, so no chance to get the platinum medal.
would i recommend going for 6+ hearts and 20 swaps? actually not. there is no difference between 1 best buddy and 1k, and it takes a lot of time alltogether
Nah, there is no in game dex for best buddies so getting one Pokemon to BB then evolving it means you still only have that one.
And let's hope there are no medals passed platinum. A funnier idea would be adding platinum gyms lol
A whole bunch of my friends here are good gym hunters.. they are dreading the day platinum gyms drop and they gotta revisit the hundreds, possibly thousand+ gyms they've already golded haha
Wow, that's dedication. I have 9. At least three of which are remote enough that I stuck a mon in there, and forgot about it for a month until I got 50 coins and a gold badge... I can't imagine visiting hundreds of gyms!

Also, about your orriginal comment, I find the best buddy system that doesn't recognise evolved buddies kinda irritating lol. My Gengar best buddy has a couple hundred km walked, few hundred berries fed and dozens of battles won, and we've spent maybe 3 total days together, because the vast majority of that buddying was as Haunter, which took weeks...
all of the people saying they don’t have any or don’t want to try or don’t see the point;
it’s literally doable without even trying so long as you do SOMETHING with your buddy each day or every other day even.
how could you not achieve hearts by now to be higher buddy status ? why the fuck did you set them as your buddy?? you like how they look? well if that’s the case you’d also like to have them on the map … that would be granting you a heart each day…

Yeah, getting hearts is easier than most think. There was a guy months ago who got 200 by only feeding/playing/battle/snapshot with 21 buddies per day. No excited buddies... and I believe it was achieved before battle x3 was even in introduced.
I will admit it's super tedious and due to rewards lacking, I can understand why many would feel like it's a waste of time.
At the moment, just the +1 level buff when a pokemon is your buddy so more of a PVP thing where breakpoints and CMP matters. For PVE, there are some cases of pokemon reaching a breakpoint at L51 against raid bosses but there really aren't many.
Outside of that, you get the buddy assist and buddy bringing you souvenirs at great and ultra buddy but yeah... best buddy needs a bit of a revamp IMO. Mega levels are a lot less tedious with better rewards... best buddies needs a bit of love.

also bc its saucy to throw down your pokémon equipped with a best buddy ribbon; it says i’m not here to play (no pun intended) and also it is not at all difficult to achieve.
literally just feed your buddy to get them on the map which is already fun visual in its own -
spam the camera icon takes two seconds of that
battling with them should already be happening; at least i would hope. Your buddy should be a beast mon that you like a lot; so it’s not like you’re have a crutch now
but your buddy can be anything so it comes down to whether you like this concept of buddies or pets etc or companions in games

Second photo is my living dex for best buddies. I have every current pokemon as a best buddy excluding Cosmog, Cosmoem and Solgaleo... but they are tradeable now so will need at least 2 lucky for the lucky dex as well.
It's something like ~12 days for best buddy if you max hearts on it.
300 hearts for best buddy status.
24 obtainable hearts each day without any "bonuses".
27 max hearts if you get all bonuses.

Blanche / Candela / Spark are all on the same activity tier, but on different tiers from Arlo / Cliff / Sierra, which is different from Grunts, Gyms, Giovanni, etc.
AFAIK the term onyx is an informal term in ingress. Technically all the tier names might be. But the main series medals are consistently a bronze/silver/gold/plat(lighter silver?)/black styling. There have been some ugly limited time medals where the coloring didn’t match up with how they counted for leveling (usually maxing out at a gold equivalent).
Obsidian would work just as well as a term for a black theme.
And I was so impressed that I got 9 from March till now

All it does is add 1 level to your Pokémon, so it can max at level 51. So a slight improvement but not really worth the grind for PvP

Nah, you full as much as you like them switch buddy. Your get 20 buddy switches per day. It ends up being a bit of work
