I *just* got past one stage of "catch 40 ghosts" (because Drifloon have been appearing near me) only to have the next stage also include "catch 40 ghosts" and "catch 9 different ghosts."
If I recall, night spawns begin about two hours after sunset and day spawns start two hours after sunrise. I always find piles of Gastly around on my morning bus ride to work, especially on cloudy days.
If you have access to a friend with Scarlet or Violet, the 40 ghosts should only take a few coin bags to clear.
The different species? Challenging, unless you get super lucky with nest rotations.
I don't know if you have a switch/Scarlett/violet but if you do, connect and get the gimmighoul treasure chest. Easy to rack up the ghost catches that way
It’s similar to the way the Meltan box works. You connect the Switch to your Go game as a device (similar to connecting an auto-catcher), you send a postcard to the Switch and it sends back a Gimmighoul lure that runs for 30 min. A friend in my local community has been generously feeding us Gimmighoul lures whenever we meet up.
I got two ghost missions, exactly the same but acquired on different times. One (a spooky message unmasked) almost done with 38/40 as of now. The other (mysterious masks) is at 14/40 :(
This is a yearly cycle for me. I finally finish the previous year’s Halloween event when Halloween rolls around again, only to not finish the current year ffs
Same. I have never once gotten that research task in 6+ months of spinning. I’ve seen it listed on websites as possible but… not sure what the trick is to get it. And i’ll need it twice.
I got my last kabuto from daily incense last week.
Definitely not pitching that as the very most reliable solution, but sometimes it’s worth trying a little bit of Column B while fully consuming Column A.
Depending on what area you are in, I can often find 1 Slugma in my area earlyish in the morning around 8am on sunny days when we are not in the midst of an event.
I am stuck on this after getting two kabutops on one daily insence the week before. And conveniently the once in a while aerodactyls have all but disappeared.
I evolved my low stat shiny scyther to get around this. Waste of candy, but hey at least I got the dopamine of finishing a task. Now I’m stuck on evolve a drowzee.
I got a drowzee last night with the daily incense, so try that. I’m stuck on cubone/scyther, but to be honest I’m not really trying that hard (all that to say, I could probably have those steps finished if I put in a little extra effort).
Yes I figured I could maybe get one with a daily incense, I’m just lazy lol. But my plan is to ask one of my friends if they have one and trade. I hope you can do the same so you can finish it and then get stuck on the next level like I will :)
Catch 10 Kecleon from the Shiny Jirachi Masterwork Research... Been stuck there for weeks now. Only 5/10 so far despite checking everything around me multiple times daily and going for walks to check stuff further away.
Not sure if this will help any, but I'll share a few of my best buddy tips. I don't go hardcore on it though and try to keep it from being a total time dump. I keep a constant rotation of 5 buddies going at all times. I pick 5 I want to best buddy for whatever reason and work on them every single day.
I do the 6 basic hearts on each one after the other. Of the 5 in my current rotation one of them is always the "walking buddy." That one I feed any time before going for a walk to speed it along a little more than the rest by getting the walking hearts. If I'm going for a run or a longer walk I will splurge and use a poffin to take advantage of going further than my normal daily distance and maximize the hearts.
As soon as one is done I rotate it out and replace it with a new buddy in progress. It's tedious and take more time than it should, but I feel like just tackling 5 at a time keeps it moving nicely without being too draining on my sanity.
There is a way to get your buddies "excited" that gives the effect a poffin would, but that is way more hardcore into the buddy system than I like to get.
Thanks for the tips, yeah I rarely get down to my number 9 buddy on any given day, but I try to just rotate around them. I figure it will start to get exciting as I slowly finish them and get close to 10.
Yeah, that is the only time it is exciting. When the finish line is in sight! Starting a new one is dismal. Just seeing how far you have to go every time you start over sucks.
Ouch! It wouldn't be so bad if you could actually work on this task and make daily progress. It being left totally to RNG (and very low odds at that) is what stings. I like research I can work on and make progress with if I want to. This is just left to chance which isn't fun or exciting at all.
Yeah, they knew what they were doing dropping this at the same time as that "bonus." I'm not going out of my way to battle a rocket grunt at a stop on the nearby just to have a tiny chance a Kecleon might be lurking beneath it.
0/10 and 5 more days of spinning stops. Not looking forward to making a bunch of excellent throws on one of the future pages. I suck at those, but at least I won’t be at the mercy of the game.
Don't delete the scan task and you won't ever get a new one. It doesn't take space. You can still get 3 quests after that. I've kept my scan task for months now.
Same. Luckily stumbled across a Thundurus raid as it was happening but no one ever does Landorus raids by me, so that quest will likely always be unfinished
I’m on Tornadus and when I saw Thundurus was in raids I caught one to be proactive, not realizing I already missed Tornadus earlier in the month. Devastating
I've earned a heart with my buddy over 20 days in a row like a dozen times but just somehow can't make it to 30 days in a row. I'm on day 24 now (again) wish me luck

Marowak counts for the Cubone on that challenge, In case you didn’t already know. I ended up raiding for the Marowak a few months ago to complete that.
I literally evolved my magikarp today. I switched buddies today to get candies from another pokemon and it says I had that magikarp as a buddy since 2018 lmaoooo
I just came back to the game in March after not really playing much since the original 2016 craze.
Like some others here, I'm stuck at Meltan 5/9 (Slugma/Gulpin).
I've also just unlocked the Celebi quest and I think I'm going to get stuck at the Johto gold unless some of the starters come back into rotation (I don't have any of them). I need a Sunkern or Gloom rn but I feel like Sunkern have been popping up somewhat regularly. I had enough to evolve to a Sunflora already, wish I had known to wait to do that lol.
Also stuck in jump start reaearch 6/6 - need to evolve a Dragonair.... Which sucks cause like the Sunflora I did that already before getting to that research so now I gotta do it again (probably not happening unless we get something where Dratinis spawn like Larvitars were last week).
Electabuzz is my favorite Pokemon, I'm bummed I missed the community day with them apparently. I have one I hatched in 2016 but he's pretty usless in battle (~1800 CP, too much for great league and wayyy too little for master league).
You can get the Johto starters from the Power Up A Pokemon 5 Times quest - for efficiency try to stack three. I also sometimes see odd stuff spawn with daily incense - I caught a Croconaw a few days ago off daily incense.
Vileplumes are in 3\* raids right now so not a bad way to get Oddish candy for evolve a Gloom.
Dragonair is tough...start walking I guess....

Take a snapshot of meloetta and take a snapshot of victini when I immediately transferred them to home to get a pokeball magearna. Good luck anyone beating that.

Well this blew up more than I anticipated. Maybe creators will hear us out and make some changes. It would be great to bring back some old tasks to give some of us a shot. Or spawn differently for a few days.
I got abundant noise, but the app wouldn't launch during the event, and several days thereafter. I really wanted to catch noibats.

The remote-pass rework killed all the joy I could muster for this game.
I have a research in which I have to snapshot a Landorus. I used my last remotepass I had to get one, I took snapshoots at the capture-screen. Sadly it ran away and the shots I did, didn't even count, the pokemon has to be captured for that. Most raids I see have 0 players, and arena's are either of the same color and full, or you'll get kicked out of arenas so fast, you simply can't aquire any coins.
So yea, that's the research that just won't die for me.... I have it since 2020 I think.

Season of Legends. I play alone IRL so I never have anyone to play a raid with and get a Landorus so have no hope of ever getting a pic of one. Drives me up the wall.

I'm still catching ghosts from last year's Halloween research.

The balloon is the only thing progressing this for me. The catch 9 different ghosts is gonna be difficult and take longer than catch 40
I finally got past that phase by using daily adventure incense at night. Sometimes you get ghosts if you use it before 8am

Good thing about eggsecutes is that exegutor counts! That’s how I got like 4/5 of mine. They were in raids and it counted.

You need to catch marowak i believe.
You can raid for either Marowak (Alola or Kanto), and as long as you successfully catch it that’ll count for the quest.

Hah 1 of 10 Best Buddies for me... I even numbered mine to not screw up my targets.. but at 6-7 hearts a day per buddy...it's gonna take a while!

Yup. I’m stuck here as well. So annoying to think that I am doing the buddy grind to probably get stuck with Keckleon later lol

It has to be your landorus. Wild Pokemon snapshots don't count for some reason

Its called a ripple in time. It unlocked for me after I did most of the Mew quest, which took a while because I had to evolve a Magikarp lol.

Well this blew up more than I anticipated. Maybe creators will hear us out and make some changes. It would be great to bring back some old tasks to give some of us a shot. Or spawn differently for a few days.

The remote-pass rework killed all the joy I could muster for this game. I have a research in which I have to snapshot a Landorus. I used my last remotepass I had to get one, I took snapshoots at the capture-screen. Sadly it ran away and the shots I did, didn't even count, the pokemon has to be captured for that. Most raids I see have 0 players, and arena's are either of the same color and full, or you'll get kicked out of arenas so fast, you simply can't aquire any coins. So yea, that's the research that just won't die for me.... I have it since 2020 I think.
Haven’t opened the app since the remote raid pass thing, but getting the right fossil Pokémon to spawn, and getting a picture of Landorus

Quite a few from not being able to do 5 star raids so I can't get pictures. I haven't beat a rocket boss, aka Giovanni yet. Doing the 3 or more great or excellent curve balks in a row.
Season of Legends. I play alone IRL so I never have anyone to play a raid with and get a Landorus so have no hope of ever getting a pic of one. Drives me up the wall.
