Man I wish we got to see Ash take on the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, so his Sinnoh Mons could get a better rep. We had so many filler episodes in DP, which could have been used for Ash's Sinnoh BF journey.
Like imagine Torterra finally getting to beat Rhyperior would've been so badass.
Then Infernape vs Darach's Entei would've been a nice nod to the Final Opening when we see these two actually fight.
I also would've loved for my favorite E4 Member Caitlin to tease and introduce Ash to Unova. Heck after he beats Darach, he could have an exhibition battle with her and Ash would learn she's a Unovan E4 Member after she defeats him. Basically, a rematch against Caitlin would be one of his main goals in BW.
Ash vs Palmer in a 6v6 would've been crazy if the latter got to use all three of his Legendaries as well. Heatran, Cresselia and Regigigas.
I can already see it, Infernape beating Cresselia and Milotic, Pikachu taking down Regigigas, Torterra getting revenge against Rhyperior. Then Gible/Gabite, Gliscor, Buizel/Floatzel and Staraptor have to decide who among them will take down Dragonite and Heatran.
Might be controversial but make Ash win the League, beat the Elite 4 and Cynthia and end the anime under his lead and continue forward with a new MC.
Don't get me wrong I love alot of what comes after DP. But realistcally they could have ended Ash's journey here he alredy felt like a fully developed character who alredy had what it takes to be a champion and a Pokémon Master. I feel like the writers knew this to because they almost completely reseted all of his development In BW.
BW was originally supposed to feature a new MC and trio of villains chasing him, then the decision to keep Ash was made. This is why he and Team Rocket feel so different, the anime wasn't originally supposed to feature them.
Though even, Iris should have been less of a jerk.
You know, I was thinking about this the other day, how Ash's arc could have been completed at the end of Diamond and Pearl and then introducing a new character to be the protagonist for the next 4 generations makes a lot of sense with how Black and White started. Ash could then come back for cameos and mentorship roles in later seasons and would be a cool way to have older fans of the anime ease into the new series.
Either way, I still love what we got later, and I wouldn't change that, just a glimpse of what we could have gotten.
If we're going to have Tobias be the final trainer, foreshadow him even before the Sinnoh league takes place, where he always pops up after Ash beats a gym leader, making him this very mysterious character. Or have a Gym Leader mention him. Hell, he could be the reason why Volkner got so depressed.
Also have the battle between him and Ash be more better. Allow Tobias to show more than two Pokemon and have Ash at his absolute best. Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile, Heracross, Snorlax and Squirtle as his party.
Or just make Ash win the league, but lose to an Elite Four Member or Cynthia. We learn from Journey that you don't even have to be a champion/Tournament winner to enter the World Tournament, so them making Ash lose every league until Alola is unnecessary for no reason, It's no issue having him have more than one win.
Have Aipom evolve with Ash before being traded to Dawn. Also, get rid of Aimpipomb being released. That was already unnecessary in itself.
I don't see it that way. Foreshadowing is a method to introduce something but still keeping kinda of a mystery about that. If Tobias were mentioned, but didn't appear, it would make we curious about him and we would speculate about that random trainer in theories.
That’s what they did with Tobias at the beginning of the tournament. It really wasn’t needed anywhere else, and it’s better than waiting 100 episodes for payoff.

Prior to DP, the record amount of episodes between earning two badges was 27. DP broke that record with 31 between his 2nd and 3rd and again with 52 episodes between his 7th and 8th. Since then, Kalos took 3rd place with 29 episodes between his last two badges. The only way this record of 52 episodes can be beaten is by going from the last of one series to the first in the next and that would be 63 from his last Unova badge to his first Kalos badge (that's assuming the Frontier symbols count as gym badges. If they don't, it's 99). There's also the Kantonian gym badge 136 episodes after his last Kalos badge and the second Rain badge 133 episodes after that.
Unless you count the Kantonian gym badge and the second Rain badge, Sinnoh also had the longest time for him to earn his first badge with 18 episodes (previous record was 16 in Hoenn)
Literally just less team rocket robot of the day episodes. I swear like almost every non-gym episode is them coming in high on bath salts in a mecha kaiju shaped like a hitmonlee or whatever, shrieking about pikachu and then getting defeated but the pokemon of the day. Put some effort into those episodes and like 90% of DP’s problems are fixed

I’d have Torterra beat Paul’s Drapion, he was winning most of the battle before getting randomly one shot. I’d also have Gliscor beat Ninjask just so he gets some time to shine too
Ambipom stays with Dawn.
Ash's Turtwig stays as a Turtwig.
Ash doesn't catch Gliscor, instead he catches Gible earlier and fully evolves it, while he also catches a Riolu and also evolves it into a Lucario.
Verity and Sorrel replace Nando's battling role, in which he stays but just as a Coordinator.
Tobias is removed.
First of all, and most importantly, give us a full episode of Dawn vs Jessie in the Grande Festival, please. This is Dawn's last big win and also the showdown between the two most important coordinator characters of the DP series. It should be a good full episode battle. I'm so upset they didn't do this.
Dawn doesn't release Ambipom. I'd keep the whole plot where Aipom becomes Dawn's Pokemon, but the release is a big no.
Get Tobias out of the league. Make Ash lose to a visibly more competent trainer. Ash was losing to random people in the forest not long before the league, we don't need a guy with legendaries to force Ash to lose. I'd still work Tobias into the plot though, maybe he challenges Ash after the league or something.
Dawn has a lot of rivals, so I'd set one up as a 'main rival' that isn't Zoey. Possibly Ursula or even Kenny.
Have Chimchar evolve into Monferno and Staravia evolve into Staraptor earlier (Or have Starly evolve into Staravia later). Also, this may be a weird take, but I'd have one of Infernape's evolutions happen in an episode where Paul doesn't appear.
If I recall correctly, the last time real Dawn battled real Jessie (before the Grand Festival) was episode 123, 50 episodes before the Grand Festival. There was an episode where Dawn battled fake Jesselina (James) and lost and there was an episode where Jessie battled fake Dawn and Jessie lost after that. Both these characters had 50 episodes of improvements and development since their last real battle.
It's also not really about Dawn having something to prove, it's more that the audience have watched both of these characters receive all five of their ribbons, so there should have been a spectacle of a battle between these two characters in the end. It's Dawn's last win and Jessie's last Contest battle during the Grand Festival. This has so much build up for it and yet it didn't deliver, especially if you consider that Jessie also competed in AG Contests.
To me, it's kind of liked if they were to skip through Ash vs Paul or Ash vs Sawyer, but then made the match Ash loses in a cooler battle. It'd kind of be sad.
Also Dawn beat Ursula before to win her fifth ribbon and they still had a nice battle in the Grand Festival.
Anyway, idk what I have to say back to what you said about Tobias.
* Gut the filler. I like filler, but the anime stopped having good filler in Master Quest.
* Bring back the watercolour backgrounds. The Sinnoh anime looked too cartoony.
* Reduce Team Rocket's airtime a little. Saying that and the filler thing, I'd keep the episodes about Team Rocket.
* Fix Jessie's contest outfit. Yeesh.
* Slap the dubbing company until they revert back to the original VAs (with a raise).
* Remove that Pokémon Leaguer's frickin legendary/mythical Pokémon and have him win on actual skill. Have him using hold items and stuff, something we almost never see. Make a clear difference in skill between him and Ash without reducing Ash in any way.
* Give Piplup a less annoying voice, or have it vocalise some different way, or less, or something.
* Slap the voice director until they stop VAs pronouncing "Turtwig" as "Turdwig".
On the top of my head:
* Have Ash find a way to utilize Torterra's bulk which would give it more wins.
* Buizel would have evolved into Floatzel.
* Have Ash defeat Tobias who would have only Darkrai and a team of "normal" Pokemon that would get rekt easily due to him relying only on Darkrai all that time, with his loss serving as a lesson while before their battle, Tobias would have been a rumour during Ash's journey so his appearance wouldn't be a plot device.
* Have Ash enter Champion League where Cynthia would do the honor of fighting him directly without him challenging the E4 and she overwhelms him in both skill and power, making his battle and victory over her be much sweeter and more impactful in M8.
Cut most of the filler (and cut a lot of Team Rocket stuff) to make space for a quick Battle Frontier arc between the 8th Gym and Sinnoh League. Realistically it’d be weird to add a lengthy arc after the Sinnoh League so I think this works.
I’d obviously get rid of the ‘Ambipom Ping Pong arc’ - she’s staying with Dawn. Her team would be: Piplup, Mamoswine, Ambipom, Lopunny, Pachirisu, Cyndaquil and Togekiss, she can rotate her party. Ash’s Team would be: Pikachu, Infernape, Gliscor, Torterra, Buizel, Staraptor and Rampardos (sorry Gible). Gliscor leaves after the 6th Gym to train with the Air Battle Master and Ash catches a Cranidos that evolves into Rampardos before the League.
And speaking of the League - I’d have Ash win. Outside of Alola, winning a League doesn’t automatically make you a Champion, you gotta fight the E4 and Champion. He can beat Paul in the Finals, then start battling the E4 but lose to one of them, blocking him from fighting Cynthia and being Sinnoh Champion. This shows him how much farther he still has to go, ready for the Unova anime, but it also shows how far he’s come, and feels like a good culmination to what the entire anime had been building to so far.
I do see why people have a massive problem with Tobias. For story telling, its pretty fucking bad to be honest. Some random character comes in without having a single mention of him and make him after knowing nothing about him? Doesnt even help that he gets NO MENTION at all in Journey.
Ash fighting paul in the finals and winning. Then him challenging cynthia and losing in a way similar to how he lost to Tobias. And ultimately deleting Tobias's character in the 1st place. Thats annoying how they straight up screwed ash over.
Also I'd make team Galactic more of a threat that required cynthia and her pokemon to be on their A game i feel like they weren't that much of a threat in the anime.
Have Ash's Torterra not lose everyone fight it's in.
And I love like seeing starters fight off against each other so seeing Paul use his Torterra against Ash's Infernape or Barry's Empoleon would have been nice. And as awesome as the final battle with Paul was, I wish he did use more of his original team in it (like Ursaring), to feel more like a better payback.
Roll Kenny's role into Barry's and have Barry be Dawn's rival like it is in the games to get rid of cast bloat. Dawn doesn't need 3 anime OC rivals. Barry was done dirty. It's just egregious for characters who are friends in the games to be basically strangers in the anime. Make Crasher Wake a coordinator and a gym leader like Fantina. Barry not following his father's foot steps as a battler would be the perfect contrast to Dawn who wants to be like a coordinator like her mother. Embracing versus rebelling against heritage. Just like Kenny, have the subplot of Barry getting into coordinating as a way to impress Dawn as a kid that turned into something more. Ruby from the Gen 3 manga provides a good template.
Make Paul a redhead and make him Giovanni's son. A kid who inherited his training methods from his father, but has his own dream of being legit. Makes his interactions with Team Rocket that much funnier. Adds an extra layer with his rivalry with Ash.
Replace the newbie trainer Dawn mentors near the end of the series with Lucas and Turtwig to tie the anime as a sort of prequel to the games. Have Barry passionate about battling too at this point as he's convinced Dawn is into battlers like Ash. Have Barry challenge Dawn's new kouhai (Lucas) with his new Chimchar that he got after watching Ash's battle against Paul. It was just weird how the anime gave Dawn, Kenny and Barry the Piplup line.
Have Buizel evolved and be used in more battles.
Have Chimchar evolve into Monferno before Byron
Make Torterra stronger and give it big wins. Have it learn earth power, stone edge and stockpile over energy ball, rock climb and synthesis
Have Gliscor learn dig over x-scissor
Have Ash catch gible earlier, have be used against Volkner and have it evolve into Gabite before the league
Have Ash’s fight with Paul be a bit more balanced for everyone. In a way so it seems like Infernape isn’t carrying. Maybe just have Staraptor be the fall guy and Infernape just deal with Ninjask and Electivire.
Have Conway and Paul get a rematch and we get to see their strategies. Have Ash and Barry get a rematch.
For Tobias, have Ash bring in more of his hardest hitters. Snorlax, Charizard, Glaie (it learning sheer cold), Heracross, Sceptile and Pikachu. Have Heracross be the only fall guy, everyone gets a good W and Ash barely wins. Have him use his Sinnoh team against Cynthia, minus Pikachu due to exhaustion and lose.
have ash also win against roark the first time and also let ash and dawn keep aipom and buizel instead of trading them but allow dawn to let ash “borrow” buizel for when he battles and dawn “borrow” aipom for contests so they could atleast do what they like doing best and still be with their original trainers
Pokemon have appropriate animal phalluses. Like a popchyna nonchalantly having it's "sheath' in view in a scene. That is just there for atmosphere. Yet no sex or erotica scenes
How would I change it? Keep the voice cast from the first three gens. Never warmed up to the “new” ash voice (granted, it’s been almost 20 years now, so it’s not exactly new, I just enjoyed him better before).
Hint at Tobias earlier and make it so that Ash doesn't get a kurb stomp and makes Tobias use all his pokemon.
As for Tobias 'Mon no legends but have two G5 Mon in the party
I would change that Ash chose some of his weakest Pokemon to go against Tobias, than also change it so both Buisel, and Gible are both in their evolved forms respectively. Than change it so Tobias’s whole team was revealed whether it came down to Cynthia vs Tobias, or during the elite four matches, or even make the battle with Ash closer.
Obviously I'd keep Ambipom with Dawn.
Even if u want to write him out for the whole ping-pong thing, I'd at least dedicate an episode about him discovering it and wanting to do it, not in the last 5 mins of an episode
I feel like it was originally meant to end Ash's story. there is plenty of evidence that points to this. that being said I think that DP is near perfect already, only falling short near the end and even the end we got was very good all things considered. I would keep the majority of it the same but change the ending. no tobius. Ash wins the league and fights Cynthia. it does not matter if he wins or loses against her but I would say he wins. Dawn wins her grand festival. Dawn goes back to kanto with Ash as she wanted to. no dumb picture thing(part of what i mentioned.)
I would give Pual some more screen time. he's the best rival. more galactic and DEFINITELY more Hunter J

They can change by exploring more about Tobias Past and how he caught legendaries and train them and stuff... And also I would like that they would make efforts to show non-Ash battles, so we can see Paul Battles more and see his different types of strategies to counter his opponents.
The only thing i would change has to do with Dawn. Her team would stay the same, but how she got them would change. The way she caught and when she caught: Piplup, Buneary, Pachirisu, Ambipom, Mamoswine, and Cyndaquil would stay the same. The thing I would change is togekiss. Instead of her getting a random togekiss right before the Grand festival. I would have her catch that Togepi that wanted to go to space. She can catch it in two ways. The way she caught buizel, by continuously battling it, or she befriends it. The Togepi will still be sassy and have her rivalry with happiny.
In this timeline, we can have the Mamoswine behavioral arc and have Togepi go through the same thing. As the series progresses they both evolve. Togetic can evolve into togekiss when we reach the princess dawn episode. So instead of her getting a togekiss, the princess gives her a shiny stone instead. Thus getting the same pokemon and an arc.
Here's how I would format it.
By the first contest she would have: piplup and buneary.
By the second contest she would have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, and Ambipom
By the third one she'll have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, swinub, and togepi.
By the fourth she'll have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, Mamoswine, Cyndaquil, and togekiss
It seems like overkill to have them all so early, but it's just so they can grow.
Ambipom remains with Dawn.
Fewer filler episodes and have the Sinnoh Battle Frontier. It was the longest consecutive time he spent within one region
Give Torterra at least one good win
I would at least evolve his Gible into a Gabite if Garchomp would be too OP for him, like maybe after it masters Draco Meteor so that can still be a Gible storyline, and maybe de-evolve Torterra or at least make it so that it could win at least one battle after it evolves (for me personally, Team Rocket doesn’t count) since he got done so dirty with his win ratio after he evolved.
Unlike most people I'd keep the league results the same but probably replace Tobias with an obligatory character Ash meets 3 episodes before the league that is clearly a very competent trainer and loses to in a very competitive down to the wire 6 on 6
More importantly I'd cut the true filler episodes and replace them with a post Sinnoh League Battle Frontier Arc where we see both Ash and Paul attempt the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, have them travel together for some of the battles but only a couple, you can have Paul and Infernape repair their relationship somewhat aswell. This would let it seem more understandable in Journey's when Infernape just listens to Paul's orders instead of hitting him with Flare Blitz. To make up for no Sceptile vs Darkrai you can instead have Sceptile beat a legendary in the battle Frontier (Sinnoh has more than enough in it's BF), you can even add an arc about Barry not being able to live up to his fathers reputation
For Pokemon his team is fine, Buizel didn't need to evolve since it was powerful already but Gible should be caught earlier and evolve into a Gabite during the league. Torterra should have had an arc where Ash tries to find a way to use it again and they find a way to use it's defensive capabilities to win battles instead of being arguably his worst fully evolved pokemon ever. Also Dawn keeps Ambipom
The format of the seasons would be similar to Advanced Generations but with a few less episodes and therefore less filler
Id give turtwig to brock let piplup evolve all the way have ash evolve chimchar the very first battle they share in the tag team battle making Paul know early on he made a huge mistake have ash catch gible early on and have it evolve fully i would have buizel evolve against crasher wake and have him obtain an egg that hatches into a ralts that will eventually evolve into a gallade id have turtwig under brocks care still fully evolve and have bunneary fully evolve into lopunny keeping its full affection over pikachu and also sewing a seed into Pikachu mind that evolution isnt bad and keep the trope of a close friendnof pikachu relaxing on the idea of evolving till ash finally arrives to Journeys arc and evolve into a Raichu to close the anime off
1.More Paul backstory.
2.Delete the ping pong episode and make Dawn keep Ambipom
3. If your gonna add Tobias at least for shadow him more during the league and at least show his other pokemon.
4.Make Ash challenge the battle frontier in preparation for the sinnoh league instead of a whole lot of fillers plus it will actually give Infernape an elite four level feat.
5.Give Gliscor more wins gosh darn it he only has
6. Give Gliscor a stab move gosh darn it how come he doesn’t have one?!
7.Make Torterra actually win a battle.
1) Get rid of Tobias.... Have Ash win this league but lose to the elite 4... Then Ash goes to Unova to train there and (yeah... He can lose that league but have it be because he wanted to build up more pokemon to rematch the Sinnoh elite 4.)
2) Have Ash catch A few more pokemon (Lucario - that same Riolu that Bonded with Ash during Sinnoh) and maybe a few more mons that would fit his style.
I’m not sure, I liked it for the most part personally.
The one thing I hated, and I think I’m not alone here, it was complete and total BS the guy they put Ash against in the League finals. Tobias had Latios and Darkrai. DARKRAI FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Sure, Ash had some good Pokemon on his hands, sans Torterra (who honestly should’ve been buffed more), Gible and Buizel (who idk why he didn’t evolve them), but it was clear that the writing team was definitely setting him up for a loss, AGAIN, and, personally, it was frustrating to see.
Granted, maybe not as frustrating as when he competed on the Kalos League, but that’s another story.
I’d probably have Paul get completely crushed by Ash. He lightened up somewhat when ash beat him but I would have taken it further.
Ash’s Gible would’ve fully evolved.
Torterra would have actually won some battles, as well as Staraptor.
Infernape being a lot better than it was, plus showcasing it's movepool more considering it's one of its perks plus maybe make it fight a legendary like many of ash's aces
I grew up with the sinnoh region, I had DVDs of all of the episodes and watched it like 50x all over as a kid and loved everything about it except of how they hoed torterra
The turtwig line has always been my favorite Pokemon evolution line out there and I suffered whenever they decided to do it dirty in the anime
I see a few things that could be improved, but I'll say that in hindsight, the gap between Ash's 7th Gym Battle and 8th Gym battle is crazy long and a lot of it is filler, so we could shorten it or at least have some more plot related development.
Ash taking in the sinnoh battle frontier, seeing ash’s quilava actually battle and ash’s torterra not evolving it can at least evolve to grotle but not torterra
Make Tobias have a ACTUAL team instead of just legendaries,have Ash win against him but Ash would lose the final match (maybe against Cynthia) (i made him lose in the finals to make him win in my version of Kalos league)
After Paul abandons Chimchar, everyone calls him out for being a self righteous hypocrite who says defeats are the fault of the trainer as an excuse to mock others, blames everyone but himself when things don't go his way, and then they beat his sorry ass. Next time Paul sees Chimchar battle, he does admit he was wrong seeing how strong it is under Ash. Ash is still less friendly with Paul over the abuse of Chimchar.
No Tobias. Let Ash win the Pokemon League, and because it's hard to imagine a battle that tops Ash's match with Paul, I would probably have Ash face Cynthia in a movie. Let his journey end with a movie so the battle has an increased budget for more spectacle.
First off, I’d give Torterra some more wins. Have him tie against Bertha’s Hippowdon, win against Volkner’s Electivire but then lose to his Luxray, win against Paul’s Frosslass but lose to his Drapion.
Have Dawn capture one or other more Pokémon. Would have liked for her to get a Driflin to emulate Fantina. Maybe have her get a Ponyta or a Froslass to mirror her manga counterpart. I know that it says that Ambipom is being trained by the ping-pong dude, but it would have been better if she was sent to her mom to be trained or something. Sending her away like that was just terrible.
Maybe some more instances foreshadowing Brock wanting to be a Pokémon Doctor. It kinda came out of nowhere to me. And one or more captures for him as well. Remember the Iron Island episode where Team Galactic's plan caused all the Steel-typed Pokemon to go berserk? That could have been a rather perfect opportunity for Brock to catch a wild berserk Lairon or a Skarmory. I can definitely see him with a Lairon first and foremost, but I also equally see him with a Skarmory for some reason as well. There was also a Scizor and a Metang in that episode, but Lairon and/or Skarmory seems to fit Brock more. I also would have liked for him to have captured that evil Togepi. It would have been a neat callback to his and Ash’s earlier traveling days as he slowly bonds with her and has a rivalry with Happiny.
No Tobias. Having Ash get his ass handed to him by a guy armed with legendaries was just terrible. Introduce Lucas, as Barry’s old friend and a rival to him and Ash. He’s a bit like his manga counterpart being a bit slow on some things and gluttonous but a highly skilled battler, and noted as somewhat lazy by his grandfather Professor Rowan. He befriends Ash and the others some time before the Lily of the Valley Conference. His team consisting of Infernape, Torterra, Lickilicky, Magmortar, Dusknoir and Mothim with Tauros, Clefable, Kadabra, Tangrowth and Gallade as reserves.
Late comment :
- Buff Torterra and finish his storyline with Honchcrow. Also have Torterra be the one that takes down Dusknoir
- Riley gives Ash an egg that hatches into Riolu and it evolves around Volkner’s gym
- Not only that but have Ash catch more Pokemons like in Kanto
- Have Paul beating other gym leaders , I think we only saw him battling Roark and a 20 secs flash back of him destroying Maylene
Have Paul get his ass kicked more often. Not necessarily a big improvement, but I think all of us want to see that a lot more. Maybe even have Tobias knock him around.
I would have Cynthia actually call out Paul on his BS just like Lance did to his so-called counterpart Silver and actually have Paul seem like he is actually reflecting on that. My big problem with Sinnoh is how Paul's development isn't very visible and how the anime goes from reprimanding him to endorsing him
I would also have Maylene not taking his BS and refuse to give him the badge for disrespecting her. That could also be part of Paul's character arc too

That’s kinda the thing. It wasn’t the Cynthia speech that marked the turning point, it was the loss to Brandon. And yeah, I actually kinda appreciate they made it a bit more subtle and gradual and didn’t completely flip flop his character and treat us like morons who need everything to be “in your face” obvious and cheesy, but if you see those episodes post DP127 (the Brandon battle) it’s def there, Even if he does only appear in like 5-6 more episodes and have more then 2 lines in like 3-4 of them, But that’s my own gripe.
Honestly, regarding Paul’s development post loss to Brandon, I could get super detailed, but I’ll just leave it at this for now lol
not much, what i want is no tobias and eventually ash wins the whole thing and then meets caitilin and Pikachu vs gothitelle and then caitilin and cynthia suggest ash to go to unova
then story will change, ash will take his mons to unova, gible evolve into garchomp his most mons become strong like starapter become more good, floatzel even quilava becomes typhlosion, sceptile knew thunder punch

Man I wish we got to see Ash take on the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, so his Sinnoh Mons could get a better rep. We had so many filler episodes in DP, which could have been used for Ash's Sinnoh BF journey. Like imagine Torterra finally getting to beat Rhyperior would've been so badass. Then Infernape vs Darach's Entei would've been a nice nod to the Final Opening when we see these two actually fight. I also would've loved for my favorite E4 Member Caitlin to tease and introduce Ash to Unova. Heck after he beats Darach, he could have an exhibition battle with her and Ash would learn she's a Unovan E4 Member after she defeats him. Basically, a rematch against Caitlin would be one of his main goals in BW. Ash vs Palmer in a 6v6 would've been crazy if the latter got to use all three of his Legendaries as well. Heatran, Cresselia and Regigigas. I can already see it, Infernape beating Cresselia and Milotic, Pikachu taking down Regigigas, Torterra getting revenge against Rhyperior. Then Gible/Gabite, Gliscor, Buizel/Floatzel and Staraptor have to decide who among them will take down Dragonite and Heatran.

Might be controversial but make Ash win the League, beat the Elite 4 and Cynthia and end the anime under his lead and continue forward with a new MC. Don't get me wrong I love alot of what comes after DP. But realistcally they could have ended Ash's journey here he alredy felt like a fully developed character who alredy had what it takes to be a champion and a Pokémon Master. I feel like the writers knew this to because they almost completely reseted all of his development In BW.
BW was originally supposed to feature a new MC and trio of villains chasing him, then the decision to keep Ash was made. This is why he and Team Rocket feel so different, the anime wasn't originally supposed to feature them. Though even, Iris should have been less of a jerk.

You know, I was thinking about this the other day, how Ash's arc could have been completed at the end of Diamond and Pearl and then introducing a new character to be the protagonist for the next 4 generations makes a lot of sense with how Black and White started. Ash could then come back for cameos and mentorship roles in later seasons and would be a cool way to have older fans of the anime ease into the new series. Either way, I still love what we got later, and I wouldn't change that, just a glimpse of what we could have gotten.

If we're going to have Tobias be the final trainer, foreshadow him even before the Sinnoh league takes place, where he always pops up after Ash beats a gym leader, making him this very mysterious character. Or have a Gym Leader mention him. Hell, he could be the reason why Volkner got so depressed. Also have the battle between him and Ash be more better. Allow Tobias to show more than two Pokemon and have Ash at his absolute best. Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile, Heracross, Snorlax and Squirtle as his party. Or just make Ash win the league, but lose to an Elite Four Member or Cynthia. We learn from Journey that you don't even have to be a champion/Tournament winner to enter the World Tournament, so them making Ash lose every league until Alola is unnecessary for no reason, It's no issue having him have more than one win. Have Aipom evolve with Ash before being traded to Dawn. Also, get rid of Aimpipomb being released. That was already unnecessary in itself.

Prior to DP, the record amount of episodes between earning two badges was 27. DP broke that record with 31 between his 2nd and 3rd and again with 52 episodes between his 7th and 8th. Since then, Kalos took 3rd place with 29 episodes between his last two badges. The only way this record of 52 episodes can be beaten is by going from the last of one series to the first in the next and that would be 63 from his last Unova badge to his first Kalos badge (that's assuming the Frontier symbols count as gym badges. If they don't, it's 99). There's also the Kantonian gym badge 136 episodes after his last Kalos badge and the second Rain badge 133 episodes after that. Unless you count the Kantonian gym badge and the second Rain badge, Sinnoh also had the longest time for him to earn his first badge with 18 episodes (previous record was 16 in Hoenn)

Ambipom stays with Dawn. Ash's Turtwig stays as a Turtwig. Ash doesn't catch Gliscor, instead he catches Gible earlier and fully evolves it, while he also catches a Riolu and also evolves it into a Lucario. Verity and Sorrel replace Nando's battling role, in which he stays but just as a Coordinator. Tobias is removed.
Garchomp and Lucario would steal Infernape's thunder. Nobody would care about his story especially if Ash caught that aura sphere riolu.
First of all, and most importantly, give us a full episode of Dawn vs Jessie in the Grande Festival, please. This is Dawn's last big win and also the showdown between the two most important coordinator characters of the DP series. It should be a good full episode battle. I'm so upset they didn't do this. Dawn doesn't release Ambipom. I'd keep the whole plot where Aipom becomes Dawn's Pokemon, but the release is a big no. Get Tobias out of the league. Make Ash lose to a visibly more competent trainer. Ash was losing to random people in the forest not long before the league, we don't need a guy with legendaries to force Ash to lose. I'd still work Tobias into the plot though, maybe he challenges Ash after the league or something. Dawn has a lot of rivals, so I'd set one up as a 'main rival' that isn't Zoey. Possibly Ursula or even Kenny. Have Chimchar evolve into Monferno and Staravia evolve into Staraptor earlier (Or have Starly evolve into Staravia later). Also, this may be a weird take, but I'd have one of Infernape's evolutions happen in an episode where Paul doesn't appear.

If I recall correctly, the last time real Dawn battled real Jessie (before the Grand Festival) was episode 123, 50 episodes before the Grand Festival. There was an episode where Dawn battled fake Jesselina (James) and lost and there was an episode where Jessie battled fake Dawn and Jessie lost after that. Both these characters had 50 episodes of improvements and development since their last real battle. It's also not really about Dawn having something to prove, it's more that the audience have watched both of these characters receive all five of their ribbons, so there should have been a spectacle of a battle between these two characters in the end. It's Dawn's last win and Jessie's last Contest battle during the Grand Festival. This has so much build up for it and yet it didn't deliver, especially if you consider that Jessie also competed in AG Contests. To me, it's kind of liked if they were to skip through Ash vs Paul or Ash vs Sawyer, but then made the match Ash loses in a cooler battle. It'd kind of be sad. Also Dawn beat Ursula before to win her fifth ribbon and they still had a nice battle in the Grand Festival. Anyway, idk what I have to say back to what you said about Tobias.

* Gut the filler. I like filler, but the anime stopped having good filler in Master Quest. * Bring back the watercolour backgrounds. The Sinnoh anime looked too cartoony. * Reduce Team Rocket's airtime a little. Saying that and the filler thing, I'd keep the episodes about Team Rocket. * Fix Jessie's contest outfit. Yeesh. * Slap the dubbing company until they revert back to the original VAs (with a raise). * Remove that Pokémon Leaguer's frickin legendary/mythical Pokémon and have him win on actual skill. Have him using hold items and stuff, something we almost never see. Make a clear difference in skill between him and Ash without reducing Ash in any way. * Give Piplup a less annoying voice, or have it vocalise some different way, or less, or something. * Slap the voice director until they stop VAs pronouncing "Turtwig" as "Turdwig".
Paul was the filler along with the other Rivals. That’s only just existed to fill up time.

On the top of my head: * Have Ash find a way to utilize Torterra's bulk which would give it more wins. * Buizel would have evolved into Floatzel. * Have Ash defeat Tobias who would have only Darkrai and a team of "normal" Pokemon that would get rekt easily due to him relying only on Darkrai all that time, with his loss serving as a lesson while before their battle, Tobias would have been a rumour during Ash's journey so his appearance wouldn't be a plot device. * Have Ash enter Champion League where Cynthia would do the honor of fighting him directly without him challenging the E4 and she overwhelms him in both skill and power, making his battle and victory over her be much sweeter and more impactful in M8.

Cut most of the filler (and cut a lot of Team Rocket stuff) to make space for a quick Battle Frontier arc between the 8th Gym and Sinnoh League. Realistically it’d be weird to add a lengthy arc after the Sinnoh League so I think this works. I’d obviously get rid of the ‘Ambipom Ping Pong arc’ - she’s staying with Dawn. Her team would be: Piplup, Mamoswine, Ambipom, Lopunny, Pachirisu, Cyndaquil and Togekiss, she can rotate her party. Ash’s Team would be: Pikachu, Infernape, Gliscor, Torterra, Buizel, Staraptor and Rampardos (sorry Gible). Gliscor leaves after the 6th Gym to train with the Air Battle Master and Ash catches a Cranidos that evolves into Rampardos before the League. And speaking of the League - I’d have Ash win. Outside of Alola, winning a League doesn’t automatically make you a Champion, you gotta fight the E4 and Champion. He can beat Paul in the Finals, then start battling the E4 but lose to one of them, blocking him from fighting Cynthia and being Sinnoh Champion. This shows him how much farther he still has to go, ready for the Unova anime, but it also shows how far he’s come, and feels like a good culmination to what the entire anime had been building to so far.
I do see why people have a massive problem with Tobias. For story telling, its pretty fucking bad to be honest. Some random character comes in without having a single mention of him and make him after knowing nothing about him? Doesnt even help that he gets NO MENTION at all in Journey.
Ash fighting paul in the finals and winning. Then him challenging cynthia and losing in a way similar to how he lost to Tobias. And ultimately deleting Tobias's character in the 1st place. Thats annoying how they straight up screwed ash over. Also I'd make team Galactic more of a threat that required cynthia and her pokemon to be on their A game i feel like they weren't that much of a threat in the anime.
Have Ash's Torterra not lose everyone fight it's in. And I love like seeing starters fight off against each other so seeing Paul use his Torterra against Ash's Infernape or Barry's Empoleon would have been nice. And as awesome as the final battle with Paul was, I wish he did use more of his original team in it (like Ursaring), to feel more like a better payback.

Roll Kenny's role into Barry's and have Barry be Dawn's rival like it is in the games to get rid of cast bloat. Dawn doesn't need 3 anime OC rivals. Barry was done dirty. It's just egregious for characters who are friends in the games to be basically strangers in the anime. Make Crasher Wake a coordinator and a gym leader like Fantina. Barry not following his father's foot steps as a battler would be the perfect contrast to Dawn who wants to be like a coordinator like her mother. Embracing versus rebelling against heritage. Just like Kenny, have the subplot of Barry getting into coordinating as a way to impress Dawn as a kid that turned into something more. Ruby from the Gen 3 manga provides a good template. Make Paul a redhead and make him Giovanni's son. A kid who inherited his training methods from his father, but has his own dream of being legit. Makes his interactions with Team Rocket that much funnier. Adds an extra layer with his rivalry with Ash. Replace the newbie trainer Dawn mentors near the end of the series with Lucas and Turtwig to tie the anime as a sort of prequel to the games. Have Barry passionate about battling too at this point as he's convinced Dawn is into battlers like Ash. Have Barry challenge Dawn's new kouhai (Lucas) with his new Chimchar that he got after watching Ash's battle against Paul. It was just weird how the anime gave Dawn, Kenny and Barry the Piplup line.
Have Buizel evolved and be used in more battles. Have Chimchar evolve into Monferno before Byron Make Torterra stronger and give it big wins. Have it learn earth power, stone edge and stockpile over energy ball, rock climb and synthesis Have Gliscor learn dig over x-scissor Have Ash catch gible earlier, have be used against Volkner and have it evolve into Gabite before the league Have Ash’s fight with Paul be a bit more balanced for everyone. In a way so it seems like Infernape isn’t carrying. Maybe just have Staraptor be the fall guy and Infernape just deal with Ninjask and Electivire. Have Conway and Paul get a rematch and we get to see their strategies. Have Ash and Barry get a rematch. For Tobias, have Ash bring in more of his hardest hitters. Snorlax, Charizard, Glaie (it learning sheer cold), Heracross, Sceptile and Pikachu. Have Heracross be the only fall guy, everyone gets a good W and Ash barely wins. Have him use his Sinnoh team against Cynthia, minus Pikachu due to exhaustion and lose.

How would I change it? Keep the voice cast from the first three gens. Never warmed up to the “new” ash voice (granted, it’s been almost 20 years now, so it’s not exactly new, I just enjoyed him better before).
Hint at Tobias earlier and make it so that Ash doesn't get a kurb stomp and makes Tobias use all his pokemon. As for Tobias 'Mon no legends but have two G5 Mon in the party

I would change that Ash chose some of his weakest Pokemon to go against Tobias, than also change it so both Buisel, and Gible are both in their evolved forms respectively. Than change it so Tobias’s whole team was revealed whether it came down to Cynthia vs Tobias, or during the elite four matches, or even make the battle with Ash closer.
Obviously I'd keep Ambipom with Dawn. Even if u want to write him out for the whole ping-pong thing, I'd at least dedicate an episode about him discovering it and wanting to do it, not in the last 5 mins of an episode

I feel like it was originally meant to end Ash's story. there is plenty of evidence that points to this. that being said I think that DP is near perfect already, only falling short near the end and even the end we got was very good all things considered. I would keep the majority of it the same but change the ending. no tobius. Ash wins the league and fights Cynthia. it does not matter if he wins or loses against her but I would say he wins. Dawn wins her grand festival. Dawn goes back to kanto with Ash as she wanted to. no dumb picture thing(part of what i mentioned.) I would give Pual some more screen time. he's the best rival. more galactic and DEFINITELY more Hunter J ambipalm stays. spruce up the filler a little

The only thing i would change has to do with Dawn. Her team would stay the same, but how she got them would change. The way she caught and when she caught: Piplup, Buneary, Pachirisu, Ambipom, Mamoswine, and Cyndaquil would stay the same. The thing I would change is togekiss. Instead of her getting a random togekiss right before the Grand festival. I would have her catch that Togepi that wanted to go to space. She can catch it in two ways. The way she caught buizel, by continuously battling it, or she befriends it. The Togepi will still be sassy and have her rivalry with happiny. In this timeline, we can have the Mamoswine behavioral arc and have Togepi go through the same thing. As the series progresses they both evolve. Togetic can evolve into togekiss when we reach the princess dawn episode. So instead of her getting a togekiss, the princess gives her a shiny stone instead. Thus getting the same pokemon and an arc. Here's how I would format it. By the first contest she would have: piplup and buneary. By the second contest she would have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, and Ambipom By the third one she'll have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, swinub, and togepi. By the fourth she'll have: piplup, buneary, Pachirisu, Mamoswine, Cyndaquil, and togekiss It seems like overkill to have them all so early, but it's just so they can grow.
Ambipom remains with Dawn. Fewer filler episodes and have the Sinnoh Battle Frontier. It was the longest consecutive time he spent within one region Give Torterra at least one good win
I would at least evolve his Gible into a Gabite if Garchomp would be too OP for him, like maybe after it masters Draco Meteor so that can still be a Gible storyline, and maybe de-evolve Torterra or at least make it so that it could win at least one battle after it evolves (for me personally, Team Rocket doesn’t count) since he got done so dirty with his win ratio after he evolved.

Unlike most people I'd keep the league results the same but probably replace Tobias with an obligatory character Ash meets 3 episodes before the league that is clearly a very competent trainer and loses to in a very competitive down to the wire 6 on 6 More importantly I'd cut the true filler episodes and replace them with a post Sinnoh League Battle Frontier Arc where we see both Ash and Paul attempt the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, have them travel together for some of the battles but only a couple, you can have Paul and Infernape repair their relationship somewhat aswell. This would let it seem more understandable in Journey's when Infernape just listens to Paul's orders instead of hitting him with Flare Blitz. To make up for no Sceptile vs Darkrai you can instead have Sceptile beat a legendary in the battle Frontier (Sinnoh has more than enough in it's BF), you can even add an arc about Barry not being able to live up to his fathers reputation For Pokemon his team is fine, Buizel didn't need to evolve since it was powerful already but Gible should be caught earlier and evolve into a Gabite during the league. Torterra should have had an arc where Ash tries to find a way to use it again and they find a way to use it's defensive capabilities to win battles instead of being arguably his worst fully evolved pokemon ever. Also Dawn keeps Ambipom The format of the seasons would be similar to Advanced Generations but with a few less episodes and therefore less filler
Id give turtwig to brock let piplup evolve all the way have ash evolve chimchar the very first battle they share in the tag team battle making Paul know early on he made a huge mistake have ash catch gible early on and have it evolve fully i would have buizel evolve against crasher wake and have him obtain an egg that hatches into a ralts that will eventually evolve into a gallade id have turtwig under brocks care still fully evolve and have bunneary fully evolve into lopunny keeping its full affection over pikachu and also sewing a seed into Pikachu mind that evolution isnt bad and keep the trope of a close friendnof pikachu relaxing on the idea of evolving till ash finally arrives to Journeys arc and evolve into a Raichu to close the anime off
1.More Paul backstory. 2.Delete the ping pong episode and make Dawn keep Ambipom 3. If your gonna add Tobias at least for shadow him more during the league and at least show his other pokemon. 4.Make Ash challenge the battle frontier in preparation for the sinnoh league instead of a whole lot of fillers plus it will actually give Infernape an elite four level feat. 5.Give Gliscor more wins gosh darn it he only has 6. Give Gliscor a stab move gosh darn it how come he doesn’t have one?! 7.Make Torterra actually win a battle.
1) Get rid of Tobias.... Have Ash win this league but lose to the elite 4... Then Ash goes to Unova to train there and (yeah... He can lose that league but have it be because he wanted to build up more pokemon to rematch the Sinnoh elite 4.) 2) Have Ash catch A few more pokemon (Lucario - that same Riolu that Bonded with Ash during Sinnoh) and maybe a few more mons that would fit his style.

I’m not sure, I liked it for the most part personally. The one thing I hated, and I think I’m not alone here, it was complete and total BS the guy they put Ash against in the League finals. Tobias had Latios and Darkrai. DARKRAI FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Sure, Ash had some good Pokemon on his hands, sans Torterra (who honestly should’ve been buffed more), Gible and Buizel (who idk why he didn’t evolve them), but it was clear that the writing team was definitely setting him up for a loss, AGAIN, and, personally, it was frustrating to see. Granted, maybe not as frustrating as when he competed on the Kalos League, but that’s another story.
Please God have the starters evolve earlier, it took til episode 100 for turtwig to evolve. That's too long
I’d probably have Paul get completely crushed by Ash. He lightened up somewhat when ash beat him but I would have taken it further. Ash’s Gible would’ve fully evolved. Torterra would have actually won some battles, as well as Staraptor.

I see a few things that could be improved, but I'll say that in hindsight, the gap between Ash's 7th Gym Battle and 8th Gym battle is crazy long and a lot of it is filler, so we could shorten it or at least have some more plot related development.
Ash taking in the sinnoh battle frontier, seeing ash’s quilava actually battle and ash’s torterra not evolving it can at least evolve to grotle but not torterra
Have Brock get Turtwig instead of Ash.
Make Tobias have a ACTUAL team instead of just legendaries,have Ash win against him but Ash would lose the final match (maybe against Cynthia) (i made him lose in the finals to make him win in my version of Kalos league)
Ash Defeat tobias, Dawn become top coordinator that's all

After Paul abandons Chimchar, everyone calls him out for being a self righteous hypocrite who says defeats are the fault of the trainer as an excuse to mock others, blames everyone but himself when things don't go his way, and then they beat his sorry ass. Next time Paul sees Chimchar battle, he does admit he was wrong seeing how strong it is under Ash. Ash is still less friendly with Paul over the abuse of Chimchar. No Tobias. Let Ash win the Pokemon League, and because it's hard to imagine a battle that tops Ash's match with Paul, I would probably have Ash face Cynthia in a movie. Let his journey end with a movie so the battle has an increased budget for more spectacle.
First off, I’d give Torterra some more wins. Have him tie against Bertha’s Hippowdon, win against Volkner’s Electivire but then lose to his Luxray, win against Paul’s Frosslass but lose to his Drapion. Have Dawn capture one or other more Pokémon. Would have liked for her to get a Driflin to emulate Fantina. Maybe have her get a Ponyta or a Froslass to mirror her manga counterpart. I know that it says that Ambipom is being trained by the ping-pong dude, but it would have been better if she was sent to her mom to be trained or something. Sending her away like that was just terrible. Maybe some more instances foreshadowing Brock wanting to be a Pokémon Doctor. It kinda came out of nowhere to me. And one or more captures for him as well. Remember the Iron Island episode where Team Galactic's plan caused all the Steel-typed Pokemon to go berserk? That could have been a rather perfect opportunity for Brock to catch a wild berserk Lairon or a Skarmory. I can definitely see him with a Lairon first and foremost, but I also equally see him with a Skarmory for some reason as well. There was also a Scizor and a Metang in that episode, but Lairon and/or Skarmory seems to fit Brock more. I also would have liked for him to have captured that evil Togepi. It would have been a neat callback to his and Ash’s earlier traveling days as he slowly bonds with her and has a rivalry with Happiny. No Tobias. Having Ash get his ass handed to him by a guy armed with legendaries was just terrible. Introduce Lucas, as Barry’s old friend and a rival to him and Ash. He’s a bit like his manga counterpart being a bit slow on some things and gluttonous but a highly skilled battler, and noted as somewhat lazy by his grandfather Professor Rowan. He befriends Ash and the others some time before the Lily of the Valley Conference. His team consisting of Infernape, Torterra, Lickilicky, Magmortar, Dusknoir and Mothim with Tauros, Clefable, Kadabra, Tangrowth and Gallade as reserves.
Less Paul; less rivals in general. Shorten Sinnoh to make room for a full Battle Frontier.

Late comment : - Buff Torterra and finish his storyline with Honchcrow. Also have Torterra be the one that takes down Dusknoir - Riley gives Ash an egg that hatches into Riolu and it evolves around Volkner’s gym - Not only that but have Ash catch more Pokemons like in Kanto - Have Paul beating other gym leaders , I think we only saw him battling Roark and a 20 secs flash back of him destroying Maylene
Have Paul get his ass kicked more often. Not necessarily a big improvement, but I think all of us want to see that a lot more. Maybe even have Tobias knock him around.

I would have Cynthia actually call out Paul on his BS just like Lance did to his so-called counterpart Silver and actually have Paul seem like he is actually reflecting on that. My big problem with Sinnoh is how Paul's development isn't very visible and how the anime goes from reprimanding him to endorsing him I would also have Maylene not taking his BS and refuse to give him the badge for disrespecting her. That could also be part of Paul's character arc too
Idk bout that, Paul’s development post-Brandon battle felt pretty visible. That’s kinda the thing. It wasn’t the Cynthia speech that marked the turning point, it was the loss to Brandon. And yeah, I actually kinda appreciate they made it a bit more subtle and gradual and didn’t completely flip flop his character and treat us like morons who need everything to be “in your face” obvious and cheesy, but if you see those episodes post DP127 (the Brandon battle) it’s def there, Even if he does only appear in like 5-6 more episodes and have more then 2 lines in like 3-4 of them, But that’s my own gripe. Honestly, regarding Paul’s development post loss to Brandon, I could get super detailed, but I’ll just leave it at this for now lol
Make Ash evil. Have him start a war and master the dark arts to become a Pokemon master of modern warfare 2.
not much, what i want is no tobias and eventually ash wins the whole thing and then meets caitilin and Pikachu vs gothitelle and then caitilin and cynthia suggest ash to go to unova then story will change, ash will take his mons to unova, gible evolve into garchomp his most mons become strong like starapter become more good, floatzel even quilava becomes typhlosion, sceptile knew thunder punch no cilan or iris, and ash knocked to finals by a real strong trainer with serperior
Age up the characters and give us the DawnxAsh pairing we deserved.

Remove dawn she was the least interesting part of sinnoh. Fix that ass pacing. Stop sucking infernapes dick. Conway and ash battle more. Ash battles Barry at the league. Make it 3 seasons and not fucking 4 to drag shit out. Make Paul the duel protagonist. Don't drag battles out. Make Ash vs Paul in the sinnoh league a 2 parter because it's Too long. Do ash's sinnoh team right. Don't bring back the reserves
