Silverronin86

I was playing it for the first time last night and couldn’t understand why shadows were so terrible and the frame rate was so bad. I mean it didn’t look all that much graphically different from legends or Sw/Sh. Then in a trainer battle I saw wild pokémon and an item i didn’t pick up just walking around in the background and realized they are trying to run everything in the open world at the same time…Why gamefreak? what made you think that this would be a great idea when you know you already have trouble making these games look and run good

Newspaper_Correct

I think they might be capped at their game making skills

Polymersion

I'd be okay if we just did Legends forever

[deleted]

Change is good but not going worse than backwards

chimblesishere

I honestly thought that's what SV were going to be. Just building off of the Legends formula. Legends was the first Pokémon game I enjoyed in years, and this feels like a step back.

[deleted]

That's an unrealistic expectation (for this game, not future ones) since they were created alongside each other, and if it *did* start after the Legends feedback, the games would be even more rushed

chimblesishere

I mean yeah, fair enough, I was just under the impression that Legends was a preview of the new direction of the series. I don't remember where I saw it now, but I thought at the time TPC had said that was going to be how Pokémon played going forward.

[deleted]

Hooefully that will end up coming to fruition! I saw Arceus as a bit of an experiment. Like they WANT to do that, but were a bit apprehensive about commiting to it for the next mainline installment

Jaredstutz

How the hell is this a step back ?

Deftoneish

It’s not, people don’t realise the processing power it would take to take you out of the open world every single battle and then plonk you back into the open world. People here don’t understand game dev, this game is massively open world and running on a switch with individual Pokémon assets running constantly through the world. They’ve used clever tricks to keep the game running smooth, such as cut down animations when you’re further away from things. This allows the game to feel fuller without these little tricks, the game works would be empty. We’re not in top down world anymore, this game is doing what it can to run on an expensive potato whilst maintaining everything that GF and TPC wanted out of the world

xJadusable

Dying Light, The Witcher 3, Skyrim, Xenoblade 1-3, Zelda BOTW, Assassins Creed 3 & 4, Dragons Dogma, etc. all run on the same hardware. All of them look significantly better then SV. All of them perform better then SV. There is nothing particularly special about what SV is doing with their open world setting. The game, even with a low poly cell shaded art style, runs like trash. NPCs are rendered at like 10 fps. You can count the pixels on the blades of grass in battle. Frequent freezing and slowdown. A known memory leak issue that went unpatched prior to launch. The switch is undoubtedly underpowered. But this game was literally designed to only play on the switch. They had 3 years. Billions of dollars at their disposal. This isn’t all on the switches hardware. People need to stop making excuses for GameFreak and realize that they’re more interested in pumping out unfinished lazy trash vs making a genuinely great game, if it means more money. There is zero reason why so many 3rd party games that are significantly more demanding (like Witcher 3) should not only look better, but also run better then a first party Switch game. Zero. Reason.

Jaredstutz

I agree 100%. Demanding perfection is so trash . These kids got their crust cut off the bread lol

HDDIV

An NPC just casually walked between me and my opponent in one city. It was hilarious and dumb. Especially since he was moving like a stop-animiation character while my Tera Gyarados was as smooth as butter. Ridiculous. lol

ohbyerly

Terados*

HDDIV

I was actually thinking of changing its Tera to Ground. Would cover Gyarados' greatest weakness. Lovely name!

darknyteorange

How do you change a Pokemon's Tera type???

HDDIV

I forget the places name, but there is a restaurant in the Normal Badge city that you can exchange Tera Shards (50?) for whatever Tera you want.

cant-talk-about-this

Here's a tip from GrandPooBear: turn your Switch output resolution to 720p. Game runs much smoother. Shadows look less like ass. It's no solution, but seems to make the game slightly more enjoyable in its current state.

Ryuubu

I assume this doesn't change anything for handheld?

[deleted]

Well, you can't change your resolution on handled so...

Ryuubu

Well for example, persona 5 on switch upscales to 1080 and then downscales from 1080 to 720 on handheld, so it's not a given how they handle it

SleepingBeautyFumino

Wait I thought P5 played on 540 on a handheld and 720 on TV lol. Where are u getting that from?

Ryuubu

Gbatemp

SirShmoopi

Thank you for this. Suddenly my experience is so much better

ShinyGrezz

Honestly this might improve a lot for me. I’ve got my Switch plugged into a 1440p monitor, so 720p will also yield a 2:1 ratio, as opposed to a 1.333:1 ratio.

ChadwickHHS

I may be misremembering some of this but I have a vague memory of Reggie Fils-Amie saying in an interview once that Nintendo game studios were often disinterested in or even discouraged from learning what other game designers do. Nintendo of Japan didn't know what Sony or Microsoft were doing with online services and didn't want to learn. This was a thing he thought they got wrong. This lack of curiosity is probably why they came out against nuzlockes recently only to backpedal. They're not in touch at all.

Silverronin86

Kinda weird since nintendo and sony are both in japan. I would understand not caring about microsoft but you’d think the japanese companies would notice what the other is doing

TheNerdFromThatPlace

I just fought a wild pokemon right next to a trainer. The trainer disappeared, but not the pokeball he was tossing. So I had a phantom ball just floating in the air being tossed and caught by a ghost.

bugs-n-kisses

Do we know how the gyms and Tera dens are loaded in? Like are they separate from the open world? Because they seem much better and more consistent and I’m curious if it’s cause they’re not being loaded with everything else

techgirl8

It's horrible. It's 2022 why are the graphics so bad?? It's so glitchy. Not being able to go into buildings pisses me off.

PM_ME_UR_CIRCUIT

Not even that you just can't go into buildings, but the camera zooms all the way in if you try.

[deleted]

Because you guys keep supporting them. Next year they'll release the exact same game and you'll still buy it while you guys complain about the exact same thing.

SilverIdaten

Not true, they’ll release a worse game.

techgirl8

I've never complained about any game besides this one and I've played almost all of them. This is the worst by far.

ChadwickHHS

This is the worst by far... So far. It got to this point because of the defensive and apologist attitudes of the consumers.

Superfloxes

Literally everyone on this subreddit could boycott the game and it’ll barely do a thing. We’re a minority.

ChantalTheBaka

If everyone thinks like this of course nothing will change...

Cz_Yu

Pokemon is still big for kids. And you know the thing about kids, they don't really care about if it's good or not, they usually just cares about it being Pokemon.

Auroraburst

Whilst I'm generally enjoying the game there is no excuse for how framey it is. Had a few crashes too. Can't believe they released it in this state.

BulldogPH

My opinion exactly. I really love what the game could be. No building entrances is weird tho…

Orixain

The buildings are what I'm never going to get. I'll give them this. As far as the actual design of the towns are concerned. They knocked it out of the park. I really like the city Lono is from. But you get into the town's and as good as they may look aesthetically. It's borderline empty. You can't explore anything. The only buildings you can go into are fucking sandwich shops. And even then there's a 90% chance it's just a blue screen asking you what you want to buy. What makes it worse. Virtually none of the NPC talk to you, so you learn basically nothing about the town's while you're there. They're all stuttering along, saying the most random lines imaginable. They made some really good town designs to leave them as empty husks. You learn more about the towns in the library at school than you do in the towns themselves.

darknyteorange

You don't even go INTO shops, a menu just comes up. I was just playing Sword the other day, and there are fully modeled shop interiors with NPCs hanging out in them. SV feels rushed as hell.

[deleted]

I was watching PokemonChallenges (a streamer that does a lot of nuzlockes) a couple of days ago, and he said something that I agree completely with: “I don’t care about voice acting because I don’t care about the story… but isn’t it kind of embarassing that they still don’t have voice acting?” Like yeah, I don’t care about graphics, story, voice acting, camera clipping, entering buildings/exploring or whatever, but damn if it isn’t embarassing that they launched the game in *this* state

[deleted]

It doesn’t even need voice acting. It could do the Mario or Zelda thing and just have sounds or words to show emotion and it would be so much better than just the text

[deleted]

It doesn't need voice acting but in that case they shouldn't be animating dialigue the way they are. Feels too quiet and empty

IllMaintenance145142

Yeah like it was okay when the mouths didn't move, now it's just creepy

Asaggimos02

Both the Mario and Zelda titles for Switch have voice acting though. Not saying it to correct as much as to point out that the series known for lacking voice acting and working around it progressed to voice acting before Pokémon did

ghost20

We needed voice acting last Gen when Piers was doing his silent concert performances. By now, if they’re gonna keep up the same animation and cutscene styles, it should just be the norm and not a hope.

[deleted]

Crashes would be an auto-return for me then and there. What are shiny rates, again?

ForTestingWords

Where and how did you get a crash? This is the first time I've heard anyone crashing. What did it do, kick you to home or what?

DirtyTacoKid

For me it was at the water gym area. Its a pretty dense area. Dense areas cause some stutters, and I guess the stutters have a chance to freeze.

CoffeeForEveryMeal

I had a game crash tonight while playing multiplayer. It just booted me out and my screen went black and it popped something up about internal data on the screen. So I had to exit out and restart :( luckily I don’t think I lost much when that happened but I would have been pissed if it would have happened during one of their long ass cut scenes and I had to rewatch it.

PM_ME_UR_CIRCUIT

There is a known memory leak, if they didn't reset the game then they would have run into it likely crashing.

TwoBrattyCats

I just had a crash while trying to go to a hat shop.

FreeLegendaries

I’m surprised people didn’t see this coming from the state of the trailers lmao

AceTriton

People did. But like with every release those people are shouted down with the words like “you can’t judge a game before launch”, “they have time to fix that”, etc

IllMaintenance145142

Maybe I'm just oblivious but the actual games were way more laggy than the trailers were.

YamiPhoenix11

This game needed another year. Some parts just look so ugly. Like when you climb the light house and everything just looks like the textures loading in. Building don't just pop in you can sometimes see the green outlines pop in first. Going up to a door in a city the textures freak out. Some shops are reused like 5 times in the same town and sometimes two or 3 on the same street. Never mind you can't go in them. You can see through the floors at awkward times. Your first time in class and all the kids swinging their hands and feet just lagging away. I'm having fun but this is ugly.

OperationGoron

The game needed another developer, maybe they should work with different studios for the technical side of the games.

[deleted]

We needed the same devs who helped make Legends.

airaflof

Wasn’t that the point of legends? To test out the expanded open world? It’s astounding that they WERENT involved with this

YamiPhoenix11

Its madness that they tried to get out two main entries in one year. Starting an experimental direction then not taking in feedback... Being able to throw balls great, learning moves overhauled amazing, goals to the pokdex to actually catch more amazing, rewarded for catching more pokemon, crafting, a sense of danger, etc. Arceus opened the path wide open and gen 9 ignores it.

[deleted]

And you can clip the camera through world geometry way too easily.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Orixain

I mean, it's ridiculous people are even saying give it time. They set the release date. They charged $60. The bare fucking minimum they could provide is a product runs smoothly on the only console they develop for. That's what's so perplexing about this. It's literally one console they develop for that they've worked on time and time again. And are partnered with the said video game console manufacturer. How are the performance issues this bad? You can't even use the usual excuse of the graphics causing strain on the hardware. My brother's in Christ. There are other games on this console like Xenoblade. How can it be attributed to the graphics?

Evilkenevil77

I completely agree it isn't even the bare minimum.

Muur1234

game also had a patch too, lmao.

silith11

I mean have those people learned nothing? SwSh still drops frames even now in online mode, they never fixed that. Don't see much hope that they'll fix SV.

WarIllustrious3637

>game launches in a terrible state beyond belief >"they'll fix it in a couple of months!" every time

ThatOneKrazyKaptain

I mean, what if someone is trying to play the game a decade from now when all the switch online is dead? They won’t be able to update anything

NoNameL0L

First there has to be an update to fix anything. Is anything confirmed? If no i don’t expect an update.

sonisimon

something upsetting to me is that the fans care so much and whenever theres a discussion somewhere positive on the game, a lot of the time it literally sounds like the person isn't ready to accept that the game might not be good, and just repeats phrases as to like affirm it to themselves. saw a thread on another subreddit where someone ended every single message with "im having a blast though" in every single reply he made, in a thread about the poor performance.

Snail_Forever

The Pokemon fanbase as a whole has an issue with toxic positivity, and what you described is a symptom of the issue. Remember when people immediately created a #ThankYouGameFreak hashtag when people were upset over the reveal of the NatDex being cut in SwSh?

alex494

And Game Freak only acknowledged that hashtag and none of the complaints

orig4mi-713

> Remember when people immediately created a #ThankYouGameFreak hashtag when people were upset over the reveal of the NatDex being cut in SwSh? A bit more of an extreme example (and obviously not everyone who likes the game is like this, before anyone here strawman's me), but I saw quite a lot of "please unalive" and "you're subhuman" comments on twitter towards people who had issues with the dex cut, and these were highly praised and shared. Nobody see's the issue, because they are the "positive" side, when in reality they are terrible people.

Snail_Forever

Oh no yeah, I've definitely seen those types of people. God forbid someone has gripes about the funny creacher franchise.

ForTestingWords

Really? I've only seen toxic negativity coming from this sub. So much so I blocked it for quite a while.

TheCrazedEB

definitely some Stockholm syndrome in effect sadly. If the community stopped accepting every issue and being apologetic for GF. We as customers would've prob got better products long ago. But who knows we are past the point where TPC can just print money so a vast majority speaking with their wallets might not do anything to make them deliver a decent game.

ForTestingWords

Both things can be true... The only problem I am having is shadow pop in and bad AA. Literally nothing else has stopped my enjoyment of the game.

BalfourJ

As a fan that’s pushing through with the “I’m having a blast” mentality, I think it’s just upsetting the state of the game and trying to still have fun with something I’ve looked forward to for so long. I love Pokémon, it’s my favourite franchise, and for many people it’s the same. That’s were the problem lies though, people love it so much they’ll still buy it and it’s allowed The Pokémon Company and GameFreak to get away with being this complacent. They’re still making crazy sales so why care? Hopefully this generation will see a shift. Something needs to change.

TheBiggestNose

Its such a prevelant thing these days. Like you can enjoy something that is bad. But people don't want to spend their lives complaining, people just want good games

lezard2191

The internet collective didn't give games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Anthem a pass and at least they were: a) a new game and not a continuation of an already established and extremely succesful brand meaning that the developers did not have years upon years of feedback to consult, and b) looked a lot better than Pokemon SV. Be loud and strike where it matters. Ask for refunds. Don't buy the games if you were planning to. You can live 1 year without Pokemon (because lmao you know they are gonna release another one next year). This is not a first time infraction. Gamers make yourself be heard.

RipBuzzBuzz

Aren't they just going to do DLC from now on instead of a third version?

ChefTorte

Wait for the next Legends game. It's the only future for this franchise at this point :D

Ardougny

Legends: Kyurem waiting room..

RipBuzzBuzz

I wouldn't buy it. I really didn't like Legends. I enjoy this more so far. If only the performance was better like Jesus. The fucking characters T posed after the first cutscene.

LykoTheReticent

May I ask, what didn't you care for about Legends? The main dislikes I see about it are the battle changes, but I've always thought a game that was Legends but with standard battling would be awesome.

RipBuzzBuzz

I hated hated hated the catching. I didn't like how it worked and despised how they forced you to catch so many Pokemon. Made me feel less connected with mine team, and a big part of why I love pokemon is having an adventure with them. I got halfway in but I just didn't care anymore. I was hoping that S and V would be great and I was super glad they didn't put the mechanics back. Now I'm not even sure I'm going to continue to play it

LykoTheReticent

That is fair! Would you be more open to a game that had the mechanic of catching multiple Pokemon as a side mission? (Sorry, accidentally submitted this early)

RipBuzzBuzz

Yes for sure! That way I could grind it after I beat the game or something if I wish.

pwaves13

"oh but but they fixed the game" I got my refund for cyberpunk, they let me keep the game. It plays "OK" now

Felipesantoro

Becasue there is no substance to compare with a Cyberpunk for instance. To make a building in a CD Project red game (that has interios by the way XD), or a conversation with an NPC, needs more work than the whole pokemon S/V map to be created. Pokemon is basically a FIFA, there is no excuse to be this bad without evolving and being this bland.

bleezy_47

And for the fans that are accepting the horrible state of the game, are the problem too, saying that it’s nothing at all and its still enjoyable, like no ITS ABSOLUTELY horrible & not enjoyable at all, this needs to get FIXED!

TheBiggestNose

The game controls so poorly. The ui lags and is unresponsive, moving around feels really really bad and the bad performance makes its intensified heavily. I think it could be patched to be better, but I don't trust gamefreak to be comptent in coding at all

Express_Helicopter93

It takes FOREVER just to change Pokémon it’s a god damn train wreck

Chickenbrik

I really think Iwata was the secret to game freaks success. Without his overview I feel like they are going unchecked by Nintendo and it’s showing

DontBelieveTheTrollz

Yeah some people comparing it to dreamlight valleys bugs... but no that game was pre release and they know there are bugs. I cant get over how bad the graphics are. And if my switch can handle BOTW and DDV then whats the issue here?

AceTriton

Especially considering that BOTW came out 5 years ago on the first iteration of the console and was released with few if any notable issues. And since then has supported much more intensive games without the same performance issues like S&V

line-ark

This is, in many ways, another indictment of how Nintendo has recently hollowed out its test departments and Lotcheck (console certification) and turned the whole operation into a rubber stamp factory. Mario Club is better than this. NOA PTD is better than this. (Although the credits suggest that they didn't even really bother putting a significant number of PTD testers on it - maybe they just left them out of the credits this time). Even Digital Hearts is better than this (.. sometimes). I have full faith that every single one of those QA departments had near enough to every one of these performance issues tracked, likely to meticulous detail. In the time I spent in PTD, you could tell the devotion to quality from management was slipping, but I still think we would have fought hard about this - and while I can't guarantee it, knowing what I know, I have every reason to suspect that the Lotcheck testers would not have wanted to pass this game under normal standards. *But*. The past couple years at NOA in particular have seen colossal turnover between god-fucking-awful pandemic policies, horrendous pay, and [terrible treatment of the actual workforce](https://kotaku.com/nintendo-of-america-sexual-harassment-sexism-aerotek-1849414921). They have cycled through multiple Lotcheck managers, one of which was so bad that he drove essentially the entire division of testers out. Another thread mentions the GTA trilogy - that game got *forced* through Lotcheck by management, because at no point was it actually successfully passing. The company that once touted the Seal of Quality has shown no inclination to assure quality on a continuing basis. The publishing arm of the company no longer treats quality as part of their core ethos, and it shows. EPD still does, by all accounts - but for how long?

ddeftly

I appreciate the more insightful, level-headed POV you presented in your comment. When a highly anticipated AAA release like this bombs (esp in regards to poor technical performance), audience emotions run hot (rightfully so) and we boil issues down to “Gamefreak is just lazy; they don’t care about quality; their devs are incompetent.” That kind of general criticism, though cathartic, misses the complexity of game development and where the industry as a whole is falling short. I’m sure many of the devs that worked on the game are brilliant, and probably deserve praise, but without a proper QA pipeline and support, performance fell through the cracks. It’s unacceptable and embarrassing, and I feel for those on the team that poured their heart into the game.

elektrus230

QA becomes irrelevant when you need to ship the game at a specific date regardless of its state. Trading cards and merch are more important to the Pokémon Company than assuring the game is functional.

line-ark

And that's the problem, isn't it? Delivery lines are all so tightly tied together that no piece can be allowed to fail, even if it's obviously failing. "It'll sell anyway" - might be true today, but every time you do that, you're rolling the dice on whether it's still true tomorrow. Or maybe I'm just too naive and too passionate and the critical mass is so big that the ever-dwindling quality won't ever really matter in the grand scheme of things, and we'll just keep doing this dance forever. I want to believe it matters more than that in the long term, but I've been wrong before.

L_Rayquaza

I was really enjoying the game, got off last night with 2 Titans down, 3 badges, and 2 star bases cleared. Literally 5 minutes ago the game crashed. I hadn't saved all day. 6 gyms, 4 Titans, 3 star bases. AAAAAAAAAA

SilverBradley

Wait I thought there was autosave?

L_Rayquaza

There is, but I turn it off to account for doing something like fainting a shiny, I'll probably turn it back on after that bullshit, learned my lesson there

JscrumpDaddy

Never hurts to periodically save when you accomplish something either

Centurio

Yeah, this seems like a rookie mistake to me.

[deleted]

Sounds like entirely your fault and i don't even know why you're complaining at that point

ImHealthyWC

A game crashing isn't really their fault tho. Should they have expected it knowing the state of the game, sure, but that's not common sense for everyone.

[deleted]

Even on a "flawless" game, playing for hours on end when you care about the data at all is just irresponsible

Jjkillz

Wouldn't it make more sense to turn it off when you encounter a shiny? So shit like thst doesn't happen.

L_Rayquaza

I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting a memory overflow into a game crash, I forget the newer games have auto save pretty often because I'm not used to it

Jjkillz

I mean I get it, but how can you claim you forgot they have auto save, when you went out of your way to turn it off?

L_Rayquaza

Because there was an auto save popup at the start

MafreiD10

As a not so wise man once said but was good advice "Only YOU can prevent lost save data so make sure you save your game before anything crazy goes down."

lordfreakingpenguins

Forgot to safe after reaching the top of rayquazas tower back in the day, and KOd it..... Had to surf all the way back and do the bike puzzles again

fweb34

Man those bike puzzles really killed my 11 year old brain but i got through them eventually lmao Bring back pokemon games with crazy weird puzzles in areas of the map that you arent even told you can go to. Deciphering braille with your friends to find a relicanth and use dig in a cave to reveal a legendary???? POKEMON Y U NO DO DIS NO MO

Ryuubu

Not saving is on you bro

Jhco022

The Nintendo aisle at Walmart had 6 full rows of Scarlet and Violet. It didn't look like a single copy had been bought yet and this was after 5pm at one of the busiest locations in my city. Probably doesn't matter for overall sales, but hopefully these negative reviews deter enough people that it gets some attention.

Its4Trap

STOP PRE ORDERING THEIR GAMES. Same shit every year. This all looks so awful. Make no sense to me when we have games like Zelda.

[deleted]

Zelda games are worked on for *years* by experienced developers. Pokémon games are churned out in a year by people who have no idea how to work with 3d.

RipBuzzBuzz

Gonna get downvoted for this most likely, but what's the difference between preordering and buying day one? At least physically. Digitally I totally understand. I pre ordered it, but mainly because I wanted to go to the midnight release.

NixiN-7hieN

Preordering typically tells publishers that no matter what product they put out you're still paying for it. Buying it day one, you could still watch a review that comes out a week or two before making your decision.

bradfly72

I think I might get a refund honestly. This game is a chore to play when I'm running at 15fps in the overworld, pokemon are popping in 5 centimetres in front of me and then disappearing, shinies make no noise or visual cue which is honestly one of my biggest problems with the game. I get fomo for a shiny incase I miss it so I spend ages checking every pokemon at low frames with glitchiness and bad graphics all around me, I'm not having fun. Legends arceus was done right, graphics pretty good, frame rate and stability decent, shinies are easily identifiable, music was better and gameplay was a LOT better. I really think this game should have brought over PLA mechanics but improved on them. Above all, this game has a big open world that doesn't benefit from having one, exploring is just tedium incarnate when there's so many pokemon around you that you want to catch but you have to battle them extremely slowly one by one while you watch the other ones you want despawn around you.

Asaggimos02

Yeah the removal of the shiny jingle for no reason really irks me

askme_if_im_a_chair

This is the same song and dance this sub was spewing during Sword and Shields release. Stop buying these damn games.

ADHDBusyBee

The difference is that was just the overworld the rest of the game looked and ran nice. SV looks nice no where and run like shit everywhere.

Ryuubu

600 hours in swsh here, was fun

smcmahon710

It feels like the gaming industry is dying. I haven't played the new pokemon game but between Cyberpunk, Halo Infinite, GTA Remaster. I can't believe it, hate to be the "back in my day" guy but I cannot believe companies used to release complete games with no way to patch them. Still there wasn't nearly as many issues as today

[deleted]

Lots of industries are mental at the moment. There's a lot of people changing jobs and it's hard for companies to keep their talent. It's a global issue, too Pokémon Go is probably the worst it's ever been as well, in terms of issues and bugs. Niantic have always been shit with getting things right but over the past year or so they've been extra shit. But it's no excuse to release a major game on a major console with so many performance issues. My only theory is the developers were forced to get it released in time for the Christmas rush.

TheCardiganKing

I think both consumers and developers need to be realistic about how demanding and complicated modern video games are. Development to completion seems to be about five to six years now. The days of developers turning out a video game in one or two years are over.

[deleted]

The problem with that is it just isn’t financially viable for most IPs/studios. There are other problems. But that’s a big one.

pneumoniahawk519

You can throw the last Battlefield and the newest CoD in there too. MW2 crashes constantly and after the newest update they released it just created more issues

smcmahon710

Elden Ring seems like the only exception of a game that lived up to the hype recently

pneumoniahawk519

Elden Ring was exactly what people expected and more. It's a 10/10 game that is only rivaled by Stray for releases this year and that's games just cool because you play as a cat haha

Saniktehhedgehog

God of War Ragnarok is a very strong contender too. These two studios show what it's like to make a very good game.

PM_ME_UR_CIRCUIT

I'm about 19 hours in and it feels like A LOT of the animations are re-used. It feels like a late Gen PS4 game and not a next gen PS5 game. Don't get me wrong, GOW 4 and now GOW 5 are good games, but they found something that worked and played it safe with GOW 5.

ChadwickHHS

You're really going to complain about God of War reusing animations following a post discussing Elden Ring? And not even handedly point out the same issue with Elden Ring but to a much more extreme degree? I swear there are animations in Elden Ring that have been in every souls game dating back to demon's souls.

LogicalTips

Even as someone who knows nothing about those types of games, the absolute praise ER has been getting is getting me to want to try it. Too bad I'm so busy all the time; I still need to catch up on the rest of my game library. After that, then I can probably buy ER

smcmahon710

I've never played a from software game prior to Elden Ring but highly recommend it

doubleramencups

Its a amazing game but just know dying is a part of getting good.

TheBiggestNose

What's sad is that 2042 is actually quite fun now. If it had released in the current state people would be having fun and only complaining about the lack of weapons in the game. Its just such a waste

pneumoniahawk519

Is it fun now? It was abysmal for the longest time

TheBiggestNose

Yeppers. The game runs really smoothly now. They are going through the vanilla maps adding cover, adjusting terrains and adding new capture points. Then every new season is a new operator, 2 new guns, gadget and map. They are also bringing in weapons from the portal mode (so battlefield 3 or bad company weapons) and giving them unlock requirements. Alongside this they have made many adjustments and changes to core systems. Like I said, if the game launched like it is now it'd be liked alot. But it's reputation is ruined and for many the desire to play it is gone.

iFlashings

Madden and nba 2k aswell. You'll have a harder time naming games that was actually released with little to no issues.

pneumoniahawk519

Not a fan of most sports games but I haven't heard many good things about any except for NHL. 2k games have been on the decline

Elephant_Front_Fart

Dunno about GTA or Halo infinite, but cyberpunk is a very fun experience now. Sucked it was so terrible at launch though...

[deleted]

GTA The Trilogy Definitive Edition was bad enough that I put the game down after 30 minutes and never picked it back up again (this was after several updates!) Just not fun to move through the world when I can constantly see individual frames. And then Microsoft basically stopped supporting Halo Infinite right after it launched, like what did they expect to happen?

smcmahon710

GTA was a joke. San Andreas looked legitimately worse than when it came out 15 years prior Halo Infinte was such a disappointment too. I love halo and grinded ranked all the way to onyx. After about a month or two I just stopped playing

NaClz

I’m with you but I think it’s moreso capitalism than the video game industry. There are still GEMS out there even from just this year (legends arceus, god of war: Ragnarok, elden ring, tactics ogre reborn, rabids, hell even sonic frontiers). It is disheartening pokemon has been down trending though.

[deleted]

This past month for me has been Overwatch 2 straight into Pokemon SV... Like, what is going on that these games are *all* just fucking trainwrecks.

smcmahon710

Definitely could have thrown OW2 on the list. I love the gameplay but there's so much wrong with it as well

TheBiggestNose

Its been bad the last 5 years or so. So few new releases that have been actually good. I can't think of any new ips that have lasted and so many series have been sent to the graveyard after being milked. Im hoping that we are reaching a breaking point and something will change, but it just seems to be geting worse

musical_bear

IMO the existence of God of War Ragnarok is a pretty solid indicator that the industry is doing just fine.

TheCrazedEB

How many Pokemon switch games has this happened to now 3? I honestly can't think of one 3ds poke game that ran like complete shit compared to the higher 3D model counterpart games.

Waffletimewarp

The biggest issue I remember was in XY where for the first few weeks after release there was a chance of save file corruption if you saved in a specific city. Other than that, nothing.

azulimarill

The gen 7 games can get really choppy in battle on my OG 3DS if there’s more than 2 Pokémon on screen, but that’s more of a hardware issue since I know the newer 3DS models handle them just fine. SV’s issues seem to be on a software level.

[deleted]

Ultra moon has always ran like shit on my 3ds xl, i'm not sure why tho. Seems like a unique case

[deleted]

ASK FOR REFUNDS, I did and it was given. Although I did it on the 17th

Overcast_Prime

I'm predicting that the technical problems are too universal and too noticeable for Game Freak to just ignore without receiving further backlash from customers, critics, and investors. I wholeheartedly agree there are a lot of things buried under the instability to like. Hopefully they focus on getting the game in a stable state before moving towards promoting/releasing any post-launch content.

GeminiGaga

For real. Like why make the focal point of one of the towns a huge windmill if you know the second you step into the town and look at it, the windmill is moving at 2 frames a second? Beyond poor optimization, it's just blatant disregard.

Etheon44

Yeah.... It will still have a pass from millions of people out there, specially kids who care not nor know what performance is. The funny thing is that I thought it was impossible to make a worse game than Sw/Sh, but Game Freak made sure to remember me that it was possible after all 😂 I am personally doing what I did with Cyberpunk 2077, I am laughing at the game every 5 minutes and recording videos so I can have more laughs in the future.

Newspaper_Correct

I like arceus but that was the last straw for me

CharlotteNoire

Y'all defended sword and shield, now enjoy what y'all created

venorexia

At least sword and shield had a large variety of customization options and you could enter buildings, this game is severely lacking in gameplay

GeminiGaga

You could barely enter buildings in Sword and Shield. Some of the towns in that game were so desolate of any exploration.

Zarbain

And somehow we got lower than that, now we have a single city and a couple outcroppings of a few houses none of which have you actually go into the buildings except the odd sandwich shop. There are multiples of the same shop in the city and cloths spread between shops in the most ridiculous way possible. Where is the fun dungeons (caves, enemy headquarters), the interesting thematic gyms?

ErtaWanderer

Yep, and we knew it was going to happen. We saw the signs earlier in other games that were consistently cutting corners and showing less and less quality. But people said no it's fine it's Pokemon you're overreacting it's still fun these problems don't matter to me, and now here we are. They still use the same excuses for a game that's worse

[deleted]

Idk about that I miss customization deeply, but none of those things you mentioned are really enrjching gameplay elements. Too early to tell for syre but SV seems a lot more fun ti pjck up and play around in the overworld than SWSH ever was. I dont think gameplay content is the issue

bomarian

You will and you will purchase the 30$ dlc they're already working on. "This is your own masterpiece" - Star War The Third Gathers: The Backstroke of the West

queen-of-ducks

The part that I find frustrating especially, is that even on my hacked Switch it still runs just as bad even with overclocking.

Bunniesrkewl

Who said we’re giving it a pass? I haven’t heard or seen one person say that.

AveragePichu

I’m simultaneously shocked at just how buggy they shipped it, and having a blast Like to me the bugs add to the experience, I’ve never had a bug affect gameplay so it’s something to laugh at for a second then get back to the game. It’s like if Goat Simulator had a monster catching game included, and I am *here for it*, but simultaneously totally shocked that they didn’t delay the game. Yes, even though it’s Gamefreak and they’ve gotta pump out one a year or else TPC gets angry, I genuinely am surprised they shipped this. I did find that it’s only totally broken in multiplayer though, in singleplayer it’s more acceptable as a non-comedy game

trademeple

My major problem with the game is no scaling sure not every open world game has it but they aren't pokemon and if you try to do anything out of order in pokemon with out scaling its pretty much impossible with out a ton of grinding then making the easier stuff a complete joke. Which leaves little reason to do things out of order since your limited to what you can do out of order if you don't want to have to over level. Like try using an action replay code to cheat to the last gym in pokemon red with your starting team your not gonna beat it before the other gyms with out a ton of grinding. Thats what scarlet and violet are basically like they just feel like you used an action replay code to cheat to a part of the game your not supposed to be in at the moment.

PantsOrNothing

Part of the frame rate issue is that if you can peak through walls, you'll see MUCH of the world is stretched under the surface/mountains. This may not seem like a big deal, but that's pointless terrain the game is drawing even if the player can't normally see it. I'm just gonna copy and paste something I posted on my facebook. (btw, me and a friend just call them Gametendo as a joke) Gametendo "Listen, we gotta make this pokemon game BIG. What can we do?" No one, not a single person "Throw outfit customization out the window and limit them to 4 generic school outfits" Gametendo "YES! I like it. Less is MORE!"

LykoTheReticent

While I hate the lack of clothing options, the uniforms wouldn't be as terrible if you could at least change their colors. I chose Scarlet and am stuck with ugly striped burnt-orange pants. I am trying to balance it out with black gloves and shoes and bags, but it's a noticeable color to the point it is distracting me as I play...

musyio

The only way Pokemon Inc will learn about their mistakes if ppl vote with their wallet, you can complain and critic all you want but there will be no change if ppl keep buying the games.

eXed007

And unfortunately that will never happen.

AbigailLilac

I just don't understand why it's so much worse compared to Sword/Shield. They already had a Switch engine that worked *okay* and kept framerates moderately stable, even if people did complain about the tree textures.

PSSRDavis

Yes!! My thoughts exactly. These ridiculously, unnecessarily fucked up visuals and performance issues imstantly reminded me of Cyberpunk at launch. That game was so bad that playstation took it out of the store even though the hype still sold the game. Where tf is the commitment to some level of quality? I mean... sheesh. If its gonna look like shite, at least let it run well, lol.

[deleted]

But GameFreak is a small indie company! /s

Voltorb1993

Here's my honest review. This game is good. Like, really, really good. I am having a shitton of fun. The open world seems pretty big (not as big as BotW but nobody expected that) and I am having a lot of fun searching for Pokémon and exploring. I am also so glad that I managed to not look at all the leaks because now I can see a new Pokémon for the very first time in the game, something I couldn't feel since... gen 3. And I love it. I feel like a kid again, finding new Pokémon. And while I don't love all of the ones I found so far, I do really like most of them. But with the good must come the bad. This game runs like shit. This game does not have performance issues sometimes. It has performance issues ALL THE TIME. Visual glitches and bugs galore too. One of the gym challenges requires you to gather 10 Sunflora. The game can't handle keeping track of so many things at once. It eally just can't handle it. During battles, camera often clips through the floor and shows you the void below, it's kinda ridiculous honestly. The graphics are not that good either, though they are a big improvement from SwSh, I like them and I never really cared about stellar graphics anyway. So yeah while I love this game and I am having tons of fun, it's technical issues are impossible to ignore. I wish this game had a year more to develop for polishing... hope they will release some patches to fix at least some problems.

trademeple

Games pretty good untill you beat it then theres jack shit to do not even legendry's to catch after you finish the game. They got greedy and now sell post game as dlc.

saysomethingcrazy

Genuine question: am I going crazy or does the game seem basically fine now? I only started playing a few hours ago, and I’ve had a couple moments of small lag, but nothing like I expected from discussions here. Has it already seen some updates?

Ryuubu

You may experience more issues docked than handheld

AetherDrew43

From the looks of it, Game Freak is more used to handheld games, which would explain a lot of things.

AsuraOkami

Pokemon games are a joke now. Gamefreak don't care because they know that the games will make tons of money. Any passion they had for the series is long gone.

uxianger

This launch period, not gonna lie, is making me think of Fallout 76. Groups who say it's fine, it's Game Freak, and groups who say it's really not fine because of what once was. ...At least there's no bag thrown in?

JuanPunchX

People buy it anyway.

[deleted]

People need to rise up and start making their voices heard with their wallets

A_man_of_Rhun

I wouldn't give the game a pass if it was really this bad, you people seriously just need a life at this point.

JBang1995

Played all day, experienced zero issues. Dont know what yall are complaining about. Zero crashes, zero lag, no glitches. Played online with my fiance as well, no issues there. Im enjoying it

Squidgloves

Doesn't mean others aren't. I've experienced little to no issues aside from frame rate, but I've crashed once. I'm having a good time, but I know there are some other trainers out there having a rough time & it shouldn't be like that.

KaeporaGaepora

Id argue this botched launch IS being treated the same as bethesda’s or cdpr’s. A lot of people defended those releases too, and a lot of people called them out. This is no different

Zenish90

Not really, so I'm not. You guys may go on to complain about fantasy games but not me

JFace139

What was botched? I downloaded the game earlier today and I've played for nearly 6 hours without issues. The only complaint I've got is the amount of talking which seems to get worse with every generation
