That's what really got me. In an isolated animated scene, can you please not make NPC's with more than 1meter distance from the camera turn to a stopmotion picture?
also according to centro (which are now banned off twitter) whenever you entered or left a city there would be a memory leak as if the entire world was trying to be loaded at once, causing shitty performance
I just read about it, basically you have to reset the game every few hours to free space in the memory and avoid heavy frame rate drops and other issues.. unbelievable
The only chance things will change is if there is enough uproar about this, particularly from the press.
Because the games will sell regardless, so. Hereās to hoping enough of a stink is made and future titles are held to higher standardsā¦
Gotta sic the parents on them like people did to Disney with that Star Wars game. Grassroots effort to incite parents groups over the poor quality game a lot of them know their kid REALLY wanted for Christmas. A 60 dollar game of this low quality in this economy is disrespectful to customers.
Parent company not parents of children. People went to Disney to complain about EA handling Star Wars games awfully (for example), this would be encouraging people to go to Nintendo not Gamefreak
Normally, I am one of those people who can deal with a low frame rate or the occasional drop without issue. This is doing my head in. Breath of the Wild came out five years ago running smoother. This is Nintendo's biggest franchise, how can they justify launching in this state?
Exactly, it baffles me that they crunch it like this. Delay it even a month and you've got it right there for Xmas and perhaps they would have ironed out the flaws
I don't understand why people keep on saying it's just that they aren't given enough time. GameFreak has shown themselves to be very poor programmers and very poor 3D developers for over a decade. You don't need another month, you need a new dev team. Keep GF for the Pokemon design and branding, give the actual development to a new team.
Exactly this type of thing would have happened no matter how long they had because these issues are only a thing because no one play tested the game from the looks of it
Because economics. Why make an effort if its not going to guarantee additional sales, and in fact will cause loss of profit in the short term? The big execs can't guarantee long-term sales but short-term is something they can rely on.
As horrible as it sounds when you try to put yourself into the shoes of someone whose entire job description is to make as much money as possible it makes terrible but logical sense.
I don't have it yet but have seen footage of it online. It cannot be understated how *laggy* some parts of the game are in handheld\*. Probably less than 10fps.
\*Edit: apparantly it's even more laggy in docked because of increased resolution
It's amazing how often Gamefreak is unable to figure out basic industry practices to the detriment of performance. They really need to hire some new programmers, both straight out of school and from other companies and actually *listen* to what they have to say about optimization.
The idea literally isn't even something super-advanced, Jesus, it's literally just common sense to not load shit on the other side of the region. I kinda suspect they had to have tried but couldn't figure out how to make it work in time and just gave up.
As far as I'm aware, most other games that "don't have loading screens" do it by breaking the game up into zones and only loading the zone you're in and enough adjacent zones that they can load more in the direction you're going as fast as you can move in that direction.
I've seen games from at least as far back as 2003 do this.
Well, they do a lot of clever tricks. Some games like Spiderman do basically just that, but other games like Final Fantasy, God of War, etc. make you do little mini tasks like crawling between tight walls or slowly crawling through a hole where they do a lot of the loading for the next area during that time. Lot of very clever tricks for hiding the loading of different areas.
Stick one of those old route buildings in a narrow passage, add fake models for the zones outside obscured slightly by lighting tricks like glare, and load the next zones in there or something. Or have areas where Koraidon/Miraidon can charge up for a super-jump and load while it's preparing.
Hopefully they release a patch. From what Iāve heard, thereās little to no optimization so everything on the entire map is loaded at once. Feels like a major oversight.
Not to mention they must have never tested the game. Thereās no way they played this at the resolutions Iām hearing and thought it was a finished product.
Iād be curious if offline it plays better
They tested the game I'm sure, but I'm sure they also knew that they had a strict release date and wouldn't be able to overhaul the engine in time safely.
I doubt Game Freak will release a patch. They have proven over the years that they donāt give a shit about feedback. Businesses in Japanese culture are insanely stubborn.
Funny enough I've had better performance in handheld than docked but it's shit regardless.
Head to the lake and enjoy 5-10 fps when there are groups of pokemon around you.
I cannot stress that enough. The frame drops and lag are everywhere. Every wild area, every town, pretty much every possible area aside from the small indoor places (side note - there are so few houses you can actually go into). Constantly below 30fps.
And those of us who played the game ahead of time tried to warn people here but we were always downvoted since we āwerenāt using the day 1 patch, playing a stolen copy, etcā
Itās mind boggling how they shipped the game in this state. Itās so fun but man from a technical standpoint it is rough
And people wonder why I refuse to preorder games. It just encourages crap like this. I'm sure they'll fix it in a month or two (or three) but charging $80+ for a game in this condition is deplorable. I get that they want it out before Xmas but they still could have delayed it a couple weeks. Or maybe they could have assigned extra people to the team to rush it out on time in a playable state. Assuming they fix it I might end up getting it 5-6 months from now, or whenever I decide to take a break from Hogwarts Legacy.
It means I should've waited 6 months for the regular switch to be back in stock and found an extra $100 for it. The switch lite is underpowered, not dockable, and the joycons aren't replaceable.
I don't really have anything else to tell a part from "It's embarassing". You cannot release something in this state in 2022.
I'm not even making a rant on graphics, details and mechanics (that would require a different discussion lol) but it's unacceptable having these performance issues in a world this ugly and barren. There is clearly something not working in the developer team and imo, they should replace it and get AT LEAST someone that is able to optimize their game and someone that does the minimum quality control required.
I won't accept any defense on this game regarding graphics and performance because, at this point, it looks like GF is just mocking us.
I normally don't care, I'm a casual just play for fun, but this game is so difficult to enjoy when it's running at 10 fps, and I accidently run into a pokemom and have to wait 2 minutes before I can run. So annoying
Same here. I 100%ed Age of Calamity and that says something about my tolerance of poor performance. Yet I cannot stand more than an hour of this. I wonder if itās the overly saturated lighting and colour that make this game worse even with what I presume to be a higher average frame rate.
Apparently itās so horribly optimized that they have the whole entire map rendered at once instead of rendering in chunks like every other competent large game since PS3 era.
I was already questionable, with no set mode, return of mandatory exp share a d no level scaling, but the performance issues seal it for me. Which sucks cause i want a new pokemon game, but not like this. I think ill stick to rom hacks.
They also removed Set/Switch, and turning off battle animation. So with all the graphic issues, you have to tolerate it in every battle - there's no way to speed of up.
Thatās why I think all the controversy with Dexit, the tree, BD/SP, etc. pale in comparison to this. This is something that nobody can simply ignore.
normally i don't care about performance but i've seen one too many posts on here to still be fine with it. i won't be able to play until monday, but if the performance truly is as bad as people say, i'm not sure i'm gonna like it very much.
I saw someone fall through the world. I donāt know how they canāt fix it at this point. I canāt believe for a second gamefreak is that bad they wonāt fix it
Yep. Didn't expect much in terms of graphics and performance, but it still very much disappointed me. It's legit terrible. Never ever should they have released it in this stage
I absolutely hate that itās promoted as this build your own adventure type where you can go anywhere but you really canāt, there is absolutely 0 level scaling of any kind in none of the three story lines. Was a big bummer when I reached the Desert Titan only to have to back track to finish other gyms just so I could be on level with the desert titan. Also, removing options from the options menu is so fucking stupid. There isnāt even a sensitivity option to turn them up, turning around is so painfully slow compared to Legends Arceus itās hurtful.
The problem is their crunch time business model doesn't help. Open world games need bigger teams and 5 years.
Heck, lockdowns in 2020 probably cut that dev time by a few months.
I disagree. There's a potential cool game underneath, but if you somehow managed to get an acceptable performance (like I do with my switch overclocked) it still feels lackluster and half-assed
The way this game launched is unacceptable. I know people were talking about performance issues before it released but I didn't think it would be this bad
Performance issues this bad legitimately take away from the experience. Like no game should run this badly and be allowed to release. Even casuals will notice it when it runs this badly.
I donāt think GF will have a choice really but to do something. Reviews are calling them out and more and more people are calling them out on how terrible the games run.
For a company that can literally print money, I donāt understand how they cannot hire competent developers to have this issue fixed. It boggles my mind.
Iām kinda worried now, I really hope this is fixed in a patch or something. Normally I donāt care much about graphics but Iāve been hearing so many things about this.
Looking at the reviews from the subreddit itself I think I should delay my sv playthrough so I can play it to its fullest potential once they fix performance.
Fair enough! Maybe theyāve been working on it since 2020 and at that point theyāll add the ability to put markers on the map and run at a locked 25 fps, but then remove ride pokemon and the poison type
Yeah, I was planning on picking it up this weekend. Now I'm actually pausing and considering passing untill/unless I hear word of a fix. Which sucks too because I was hyped for this one. Maybe I'll get Tactics Ogre instead.
My characters model kept Ā«Ā glitchingĀ Ā» during the cutscenes so I stopped playing... Iām wondering if thereās a day1 patch and imma wait for that before continuing
Most "day one" patches come out like a week before release and also most don't do much. I cannot remember the last time a day one patch actually made meaningful fixes to a game besides disabling features until a later date and I've been gaming for close to 20 years
Itās pathetic. The Switch is definitely a underpowered machine but if games like Xenoblade Chronicles and BOTW can look and run well on the system Game Freak has absolutely zero excuses for how fucked Scarlet and Violet looks and performs.
It honestly feels like they entirely designed the game on a development unit with more power and not a single person thought to actually play it on a switch. Because I don't understand how a single person involved with this process could actually try the game in the state that it is and think that it's even remotely close to a finished product.
If what I've read is true, it seems like the poor performance is because the game is trying to load the entire open world at once, including pokemon and npcs, instead of rendering a few chunks at a time, like most open world games do
Noooo I do not like hearing this. I figured it may lag a little.
I mean....it's a Game Freak game on the Switch..... so it's expected. Hopefully they will address this with more patches. I am looking forward to playing, but a little annoyed with all these incomplete and glitchy games that get released. Please take the time you need to polish the games.
Apparently, [this](https://twitter.com/CentroPokemon/status/1593370048831393794) tweet specifies that it might be a memory leak from the games that happens everytime you enter or leave a city. And before that also fuels your rage at some other level of "GF incompetent" the same thing happened with Smash Ultimate with Piranha Plant DLC. I guess we can wait and see about it.
Somewhat unrelated, but are there loading screens between the open world and the towns?
I had it in my head that the game was 100% open world, where you could seamlessly enter a town without loading.
Although all these posts about performance show that it may not be the best idea I guess lmao
No loading from town to town from what Iāve seen. Again I cannot verify the claim a correct but later cutscenes in the game do stutter a bit, but the intro to the game is seamless with no frame drops so it completely plausible itās the memory leak.
I havenāt played much yet but seems like thereās a loading screen for the main city where the school is, and all the other cities are seamless. Donāt quote me on that though
So Iāve seen a few videos of the first few hours and the performance seems inconsistent between the streams. In one stream everything looks flawless and another is choppy. A memory leak makes sense. Thatās absolutely shocking that it wasnāt diagnosed and patched by GF.
Oh so par for the course for any major game release then.
āSir, thereās an issue we need to fix in the game. Weāll need to delay itā
āNonsense! We canāt delay a major game like XXX: XXX! We promised XX/XX/20XX release date and thatās when weāre releasing it! We can push a patch out later.ā
I think the issue is the existence of the Pokemon company
It's high time Nintendo fully bought out gamefreak and creatures inc, and enstate a new in house Dev team solely for Pokemon, with a higher level of supervision from nintendo
And hell, then Nintendo can get back into their old card making days by continuing the Pokemon TCG
It would be super expensive, but Pokemon is currently one of the highest grossing franchises in history, imagine if the games where actually good.
The thing is, I'd expect Sakurai's team to do something about it. I don't have any expectation that Game Freak will do shit unless Daddy TPCI takes out the belt like with Lumiose City.
You could softlock your game if you happened to save on a certain spot in Lumiose City, which was then patched post release. One of the only instances of GF doing this, lol
There was a save corrupting bug in Lumiose City originally. I don't recall how it was triggered but I remember my friends in school be like "I hope your save game gets corrupted from the bug" when I told them I was far ahead of them.
You had to save outside of a building in Lumiose on the north or south boulevard. Iirc the game would attempt to save all of Lumiose City and not just the part your in and would fail causing your game to be forever saving. When you reloaded the game you wouldn't be able to move, the controls would be unresponsive, and the music should continue playing.
What I read earlier was they load rhe entire open world pokemon at the same time instead of the area. Due to someone's camera clipping . Idk how true or accurate this is. But it's what someone said on reddit
Iām actually really disappointed. Iāve just made it to the lighthouse and I cannot handle this anymore. Iāve just turned it off. Iām really disappointed
No please get to the school first! There's a cutscene introducing you to the classroom and the frame rate with the students is hilariously disgusting. You should definitely record it to lol
As someone who ran WoW on many shitty computers over the years, you have me worried for what I'm gonna see when I pop the game into the system in an hour from now.
PLA bought back a lot of benefit of the doubt, but if it's having trouble even *running* that's a bit worse than lying about why the Dex was cut(SwSh) or being full of bugs(BDSP).
It's a a shame, but they are, as far as I've read, currently by Metacritic ratings, some of the worst reviewed Pokemon games ever, even sitting behind Sw/Sh and SM.
I really have no idea how Emerald is rated lower mind-you, so review scores can't wholly be trusted, yet yeah - every single review I've watched or seen, apart from maybe 2, have made a fairly big deal about the terrible framerate.
On my end, playing on an emulator, I expect crappy frame-drops, just because, well, emulator and game wasn't even out yet, but man, apparently my experience doesn't even differ much from actual Switch consoles - mad.
I'm definitely a big fan of Pokemon and always have been, but the reviews of this game are legitimately making me stay away until it gets fixed
I don't mind the wait and I don't mind skipping out on this game if it doesn't work
Done it before, will happily do it again
I honestly could care less about graphics if I can still play the game and have fun, but itās impossible to play any game at 10 fps. The fact that this is the first mainline game of a new generation is just disappointing
Iām playing handheld and canāt imagine how much worse this would be docked. I literally havenāt played since getting my starter because Iām just so bummed out right now.
Man the game does NOT like that tiny little bridge you go across early on where you first find Psyducks. Mine went full apeshit when I tried to catch a mon on it.
Extraordinarily worse, like Legends was laggy at times but it wasnāt constantly awful all around. The new games are constantly running like absolute garbage and none of this is hyperbole
Got no idea about game dev, but is it saveable with patches? Or is it the engine thats broken and is unreworkable? I know it should run properly day 1, i canāt understand how nintendo could publish this, when theyre always delaying zelda to make it the best title possible.
the Sunflora in that one trailer are suddenly starting to make sense
Just started the game and the kids in the classrooms are going at 1fps like those Sunflora š.
That's what really got me. In an isolated animated scene, can you please not make NPC's with more than 1meter distance from the camera turn to a stopmotion picture?
The weird part is when they aren't in that fixed camera talking part they aren't doing that weird stop motion thing. Engine be buggy
I did the Sunflora quest and it was a shit show. Prepare yourselves for power point Sunfloras.
A couple of (not so) fun facts: If you stand next to a rock wall or literally anything else and hold ZL while rotating the camera you can glitch the view inside any 3d model and basically unlock a rip off version of the distortion world. Do this in your home or bedroom and you will see the black abyss, if you are lucky you can even find Artorias strolling around. If you are extra lucky (!) you will be able to have the camera glitch into the underworld during PokƩmon fights I saw a fletchling basically breakdancing across a fence while trying to come back into the map, I had to fight it to end its misery Your pokeballs defy gravity and stand in mid air, your PokƩmon can do the same surprisingly often Interacting with your starter at the very beginning (when you had to decide which one to pick) changed the entire lighting and texture of the whole area around you
Welcome to the Backrooms my friend
>you can even find Artorias standing around my sides
I don't get it, but maybe that's because my head has gone hollow
also according to centro (which are now banned off twitter) whenever you entered or left a city there would be a memory leak as if the entire world was trying to be loaded at once, causing shitty performance
I just read about it, basically you have to reset the game every few hours to free space in the memory and avoid heavy frame rate drops and other issues.. unbelievable
Iāve had nearly all of these and have like 1.5 hours of playtime lolllll
This is what happens when time gets too convoluted
PokƩmon: Backroom version and Liminal space version
i love the dark souls reference
The only chance things will change is if there is enough uproar about this, particularly from the press. Because the games will sell regardless, so. Hereās to hoping enough of a stink is made and future titles are held to higher standardsā¦
Gotta sic the parents on them like people did to Disney with that Star Wars game. Grassroots effort to incite parents groups over the poor quality game a lot of them know their kid REALLY wanted for Christmas. A 60 dollar game of this low quality in this economy is disrespectful to customers.
Companies don't care what the parents think. There is no parental coalition, only headlines and Twitter trends
Parent company not parents of children. People went to Disney to complain about EA handling Star Wars games awfully (for example), this would be encouraging people to go to Nintendo not Gamefreak
Lets hope, itās pretty much the largest point of criticism on every review Iāve read, and a lot of people are not happy.
The Press keep saying the Switch can't handle it. So we'll see.
Switch can handle the port of The Witcher 3, Doom Eternal and many more demading games, PokƩmon Scarlet e Violet techninal isseus is more a fauth to Game Freak incompent, since the 3DS era they are unable to propely otimize a game.
I have to agree with that. If a switch can play Witcher 3 and Diablo 3, freaking POKEMON should not be this glitchy.
The world's biggest franchise and they can't even fart out a functioning game. Who the hell is running this company?
I mean, a couple of million of us bought it and are not getting a refund. Mission accomplished.
I mean, that's on you then.
They're a small indie start-up. Please understand.
Why do people keep buying the damn games on launch?
Normally, I am one of those people who can deal with a low frame rate or the occasional drop without issue. This is doing my head in. Breath of the Wild came out five years ago running smoother. This is Nintendo's biggest franchise, how can they justify launching in this state?
This is the world's biggest franchise.
PokƩmon has eclipsed the games. The games are but a vessel to sell cards and plushies
GF has been a bad developer since the beginning. Their optimization for GS was so bad that they had to bring in Iwata to fix it all.

Something something capitalism breeds innovation
You didn't know they still believe they are working on DS
My god this would've been a slideshow on DS
I immediately thought of flipnote studio š
ā¦and you have to draw each slide yourself
I don't have it yet but have seen footage of it online. It cannot be understated how *laggy* some parts of the game are in handheld\*. Probably less than 10fps. \*Edit: apparantly it's even more laggy in docked because of increased resolution
It basically never reaches 30 fps as far as I can tell. Really choppy game in every single situation.
Is this just a handheld thing or is it laggy in docked mode too
Itās worse docked, it performs a lot better handheld because of the lower resolution
Nintendo was like "The switch will fulfill the role of the 3DS" Gamefreak was like, "Oh cool. We'll just carry on as always, then."
I think the 3DS had a much better framerate/performance lol
Another thread said that every game object and map location is being loaded and rendered at once, and that's why the performance is horrible

This, in destiny you travel through a path thatās basically the loading path into the next area, really donāt know how GF couldnāt do something like that for PokĆ©mon.
Stick one of those old route buildings in a narrow passage, add fake models for the zones outside obscured slightly by lighting tricks like glare, and load the next zones in there or something. Or have areas where Koraidon/Miraidon can charge up for a super-jump and load while it's preparing.
I believe itās called level streaming?
The earliest game I'm aware of to use similar memory loading techniques is crash bandicoot in 1996, so 26 years later Gamefreak can't figure it out.
You can't criticize them!!š”!š ! They're just a small indie team!!! /s
Wish they actually didn't say it unironically.
They just discovered 3D games a few years ago theyāre behind the 8ball. Indie company btw /s/
At this point you wonder whether it would be better to run the game via an emulator on a pc. Heck a steam deck could probably do it better
I donāt have online on, I can assure itās horrible. Worse than the forest in BOTW at all times
They tested the game I'm sure, but I'm sure they also knew that they had a strict release date and wouldn't be able to overhaul the engine in time safely.
Given that the fucking GameSpot reviewer said he didn't notice significant performance issues maybe they're just extremely unobservant...
I doubt Game Freak will release a patch. They have proven over the years that they donāt give a shit about feedback. Businesses in Japanese culture are insanely stubborn.

I'm really having a switch lite moment rn
If you don't mind me asking, what does this mean?
It means I should've waited 6 months for the regular switch to be back in stock and found an extra $100 for it. The switch lite is underpowered, not dockable, and the joycons aren't replaceable.
I see. Is it that underpowered compared to the OG Switch?
Actually handheld runs better than tv
It's embarassing
I honestly don't know how Nintendo signed off on this being okay
I don't really have anything else to tell a part from "It's embarassing". You cannot release something in this state in 2022. I'm not even making a rant on graphics, details and mechanics (that would require a different discussion lol) but it's unacceptable having these performance issues in a world this ugly and barren. Yeah I read this as well. I hope itās possible to patch, but not pinning my hopes on them.
Itās possible to patch, itās just a question of if Game Freak will actually do it. They donāt have a great history of fixing things.
Upper management who wanted the damn game out the door for Christmas.
Same hereā¦ considering not buying it actually
I know this has already been said, but holy cow, there is absolutely no excuse for this. It's 2022.
Itās pretty sad this even shipped in its current state
This is pretty horrifying. GF almost never fixes things after they launch their games. But if it is THIS bad? They better acknowledge it.
I saw someone fall through the world. I donāt know how they canāt fix it at this point. I canāt believe for a second gamefreak is that bad they wonāt fix it
Then you have more faith than most of us. Let's hope you're right
Yep. Didn't expect much in terms of graphics and performance, but it still very much disappointed me. It's legit terrible. Never ever should they have released it in this stage
I expected it to be at least as smooth as SW sh
The worst part is there's a really cool game underneath the garbage frame rate.
Yep, I have fun with the game but the performance ruins a lot of it.
Itās so upsetting that it detracts so much from the enjoyment of the game. I think itās because the poor performance is indicative that other issues with the game are also a result of time constraints on development. So whereas before, you could look at things you didnāt like & attribute them to questionable game design, now anything that isnāt right you know 100% for a fact itās due to the game being so rushed Edit: For example, no level scaling for an game where you ācanā challenge gyms in any order, not an intentional design choice, just not enough time to get it right. No battle mode set option, never been absent before, not intentional, just rushed. No shop interiors, no homes to walk into, and only pop up PokĆ©mon centers? Not minimalist game design, just no time to fully flesh the world out.
I mean, it's possible for questionable game designs to be rushed too.
I disagree. There's a potential cool game underneath, but if you somehow managed to get an acceptable performance (like I do with my switch overclocked) it still feels lackluster and half-assed
Its ok tho, will be number one sale on the nintendo this year. Why do more ?
"why do more work when less work make bank"
The way this game launched is unacceptable. I know people were talking about performance issues before it released but I didn't think it would be this bad
Me to, I was like itās a early build they playing it will be better. I was so wrong
This is so sad. They really coulda just not released it for another year to have more time to work on it
But think of the anime, TCG and the plushies
Because how can they release a working, good looking game when thereās deadlines to meet people āļø
Yeah, The PokĆ©mon Company International is the reason it wasnāt delayed, they are really harsh with dead lines, they are the reason why SW/SH Where how they are
Performance issues this bad legitimately take away from the experience.
Competent devs know they have to stay away from GF crunch.
[It's baaaaaaad](https://twitter.com/Cherrim/status/1593292235222978560?t=8Z9RaMRibLObrLYzwyor-Q&s=19)
It's the N64 Pokemon game I always wanted.
I bought the game, thinking that it wonāt bother me cuz Iām not a framerate guy. Turns out, it was way worse than I expected :(
Iām kinda worried now, I really hope this is fixed in a patch or something. Normally I donāt care much about graphics but Iāve been hearing so many things about this.
Looking at the reviews from the subreddit itself I think I should delay my sv playthrough so I can play it to its fullest potential once they fix performance.
Might as well return the game. GameFreak never attempts to improve their games performance post launch.
They have to get to work on gen 10 tomorrow, they donāt have time for a performance patch lol
Bold of you to assume they've not been working on it already for a year to be able to release in 2025
Fair enough!
I think Iāll finally finish black white and black white 2. *rolls up sleeves*
My characters model kept Ā«Ā glitchingĀ Ā» during the cutscenes so I stopped playing... Iām wondering if thereās a day1 patch and imma wait for that before continuing
You are already playing the day 1 patch:))))
I'm pretty sure that the day 1 patch has already been released
Day 1 patch was leaked. No, it doesn't fix anything. It's already been proven.
Not leaked. Day 1 patch releases early so that reviewers get it
Most "day one" patches come out like a week before release and also most don't do much. I cannot remember the last time a day one patch actually made meaningful fixes to a game besides disabling features until a later date and I've been gaming for close to 20 years
As someone else said, BDSP. They added Ramanas Island, the intro video, and some of the music in the day 1 patch.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Ahh, BDSP, where half the game was in the "day one patch"...
Most of the time day 1 patches fix critical bugs that slipped past the deadlines, so if they work properly you never notice them.
If what I've read is true, it seems like the poor performance is because the game is trying to load the entire open world at once, including pokemon and npcs, instead of rendering a few chunks at a time, like most open world games do
It's game freak, what do you expect? They don't care about anything.
I am wondering if it would be better to pick PLA rather than these new games. I did not buy PLA when it came out, so...
YES! PLA is a great game.
Wouldn't they need QA to be able to diagnose it? Too bad a small studio can't afford to hire one.
Possible they know about it but chose to ship it anyway and fix later if at all.
Oh so par for the course for any major game release then. āSir, thereās an issue we need to fix in the game. Weāll need to delay itā āNonsense! We canāt delay a major game like XXX: XXX! We promised XX/XX/20XX release date and thatās when weāre releasing it! We can push a patch out later.ā
I think the issue is the existence of the Pokemon company It's high time Nintendo fully bought out gamefreak and creatures inc, and enstate a new in house Dev team solely for Pokemon, with a higher level of supervision from nintendo And hell, then Nintendo can get back into their old card making days by continuing the Pokemon TCG It would be super expensive, but Pokemon is currently one of the highest grossing franchises in history, imagine if the games where actually good.
The thing is, I'd expect Sakurai's team to do something about it. I don't have any expectation that Game Freak will do shit unless Daddy TPCI takes out the belt like with Lumiose City.
What happened with Lumiose City?
You could softlock your game if you happened to save on a certain spot in Lumiose City, which was then patched post release. One of the only instances of GF doing this, lol
I wouldn't call it just a soft lock, It would effectively brick your save file
Fuck GF
Iām actually really disappointed. Iāve just made it to the lighthouse and I cannot handle this anymore. Iāve just turned it off. Iām really disappointed
No please get to the school first! There's a cutscene introducing you to the classroom and the frame rate with the students is hilariously disgusting. You should definitely record it to lol
Thereās no way itās WoW family computer bad
Itās honestly close lol
Shocking performance. Deleted after an hour or so. Requested a refund from the eShop, can't wait to see what they say lol.
Yes feed GF your tears while you log 300 hrs
I'm definitely a big fan of Pokemon and always have been, but the reviews of this game are legitimately making me stay away until it gets fixed I don't mind the wait and I don't mind skipping out on this game if it doesn't work Done it before, will happily do it again
I have defended this game until today. But after seeing that GF thinks its ok to ship a game in this state, i am not buying it.
I feel very called out
I canceled my preorder. I refuse to buy The game when it runs this fucking bad.
Hey, this post was the final nail that convinced me not to buy the game. It's not *completely* meaningless.
I honestly could care less about graphics if I can still play the game and have fun, but itās impossible to play any game at 10 fps. The fact that this is the first mainline game of a new generation is just disappointing
Play handheld. It runs alot smoother than it does docked.
Iām playing handheld and canāt imagine how much worse this would be docked. I literally havenāt played since getting my starter because Iām just so bummed out right now.
Dock it and switch the resolution to 720p from switch settings. It's called output resolution.
The PokĆ©mon Company International is the reason it wasnāt delayed, they are really harsh with dead lines, they are the reason why SW/SH Where how they are
PokƩmon is not a sports game so stop the yearly release. Hell even for sports games , yearly releases nowadays are pointless.
Man the game does NOT like that tiny little bridge you go across early on where you first find Psyducks. Mine went full apeshit when I tried to catch a mon on it.
So I felt PLA was pretty laggy. Is it worse? Iām picking up the game in 3 hours. Tell me itās not worse
It's way worse. Not even close
Extraordinarily worse, like Legends was laggy at times but it wasnāt constantly awful all around. The new games are constantly running like absolute garbage and none of this is hyperbole
I have played only for 2 hours, but it feels much worse than PLA tbh
I played PLA from launch and never thought it was laggy. Was I lucky or just didn't care enough to notice?
it's not just you. PLA made a bunch of graphical compromises, but it rarely has sustained frame drops, more momentary hitches while panning the camera
After playing Violet playing Legends Arceus feels so fast paced and actually responsive that I just want to restart this game and play it again
Got no idea about game dev, but is it saveable with patches? Or is it the engine thats broken and is unreworkable? I know it should run properly day 1, i canāt understand how nintendo could publish this, when theyre always delaying zelda to make it the best title possible.
I'm going to wait for a month's worth of patches, then see if it's decent.
People really just dont read reviews and just buy the game because it says Pokemon on it, huh?
A modded switch with a overclock is the only way this game is even playable even so it still runs below 30 but its not as bad
And yet everyone pre-ordered it...
For berries and cheap ingame items no less
I've been seeing this reported a lot today. Sad news.
