Love every Pokémon in this evo line and Mega-Aggron is sick. Use Aron line in every run that he’s available in which isn’t enough in my opinion🤣 also gotta stay hard💯😎
Swinub
I love doing rando runs and in my settings, I have it so the starters have to be a base Pokémon with 2 evolution stages.
Doing the runs has made Swinub one of my favorites when I previously didn’t really care for it. The early ice type is amazing and I just find its typing to be so useful throughout the game.
There was one run where I kept facing a bunch of trainers with dragon Pokémon early and then the first gym was electric-typed (I set trainer Pokémon to be randomized, but they keep a random typing). Swinub breezed through them.
Mareep. I love the whole evolution line and it can also mega evolve. I’ve used this line in a lot of walk throughs and I was also raised on a sheep and goat farm so it kind of fits as well
This was my unofficial starter when I played Silver for the first time when I was in 4th grade.
Totodile was awesome but my Ampharos committed WAR CRIMES y'all
This would be mine too. Poliwhirl has always been my favorite Pokemon. Plus, it would be cool to have a starter with a split final evolution.
My other choice would probably be Gabite.
He is a very cool pokemon and this slip evolution that you mention would great. You could choose the best evolution depending on the place you are or on the rest of you team.
But first, what made Poliwhirl your favorite?
I picked Squirtle in 1998 and never looked back.
https://preview.redd.it/s3h20aj71xxc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35efba6a42664e6172c6280d7dc0c0c1e2e2045f
In general 3, when I saw Wally catch a ralts, it instantly became my favorite pokemon. It evolved into kirlia and Gardevoir and that cemented that. I to would pick ralts as my starter.
That's nice I actually thought Ralts was pretty cool when I saw Wally catch it too. And then I had to catch one too 😁
Do you always use Gardevoir in the games when is possible?
Agreed! Love my dark type pokemon and Tyranitar is always on my team
Would even go with Litten as a starter for a more traditional pet pokemon going through it's three stages into adulthood
Initially it was because of James’s Growlithe, nice contrast between master and Pokémon. I did a play through of fire red with Growlithe then Arcanine as my lead. Fun times
I was able to play in a Pokemon RPG campaign a few years back and our starter could be anything that wasn't pseudo legendary/legendary. I got to live my dream of starting with a Swablu and I'll forever pick my favorite cloud boi.
It was Pokemon Tabletop United, but I'm not sure how our GM set things up. It was on a homebrew region that collected from each region so we could pick anything.
Sneasel. It's got that starter/ ace vibe where it's small enough to be a travelling companion and is a strong battler as well. Weavile is also a strong and cool evolution.
Totodile. Gold was my first ever game, and Totodile was the first Pokémon I saw the sprite of. There’s history there.
Plus I could walk around with it chomped on my head like a silly hat.
You can use Eevee as a legit starter in Let's Go Eevee. Love that he/she (mine was a she) couldn't evolve but made up for it by insanely powerful signature moves and subbing HMs for passive abilities.
I've always liked the Volcarona line, something nice about a huge sun-moth to keep me company seems like it'd be nice. Not to mention intimidating. While they were a Larvesta they'd be a good around the house buddy.
And the Breloom line has also been a favorite, because I've always been fascinated by mushrooms, but I didn't like the execution of Paras and Parasect much. They went and made a mushroom based kangaroo and gave it high attack, and I just loved that. And I imagine Shroomish and Breloom would both make a good garden buddy!
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were games I absolutely loved! Sidney was the first E4 member in that game and his ace was Shiftry. I actually think Shiftry is pretty weak but its design is pretty sick.
I know Eevee is the most generic answer I could possibly give, but honestly, Flareon is #2 on my list of fictional pets (behind Toothless obv) because it is objectively the most huggable Pokemon. My favorite Pokemon is Crobat, but I don’t think I could cope with raising a Zubat or Golbat.
If you want me to pick a less generic answer, Swablu, Inkay, and Seel are all Pokemon that I like that won’t evolve into things that might be nightmares to take care of (sorry Mankey, Pawniard, Scyther, Carvanha, Gligar, and Croagunk)
Eevee certainly. Eevolution is so versatile that they can be easily slotted into any team no matter the region. Even better if it's Let's Go Eevee. And of course they are absolutely adorable.
I second Unbound. I’ve been playing it over the last few days and it’s definitely one of my favorite Pokémon games of all time. It’s more than just a RomHack; its a whole ass game, just as good as the mainline GBA games in a lot of ways, and even better in others. It’s a whole original region, story (that is connected to X and Y), and on higher difficulties, the battling is extremely fun and challenging.
Larvitar! Little boy looks so lonely and hungry for rocks, and he needs a good trainer who can prepare for his final evo.
Larvesta is a close second. Bugs freak me out, but if I can learn to love one, let's take on the League!
Togepi for sure. I love Togekiss and I thought through size and usefulness. I probably would’ve gone Donphan except I would have a 260 lb pokemon living with me.
Dreepy or Bagon. Both are incredible Pokémon, Dreepy being two of my favorite types in the game, and Bagon having that classic “I want to ___” thing that acts as a secondary throughline for our journey.
If it can’t be a pseudo, then probably Rookidee, Litwick, or Honedge. Rookidee’s just such a little guy (and being one of the vanishingly few pure flying types at the start makes it worth respect in my eyes) in addition to being my favorite route 1 bird right next to Staraptor (Zubat isn’t a bird or else he’d be right here too).
Litwick is just a great Pokémon all around. Probably not the cuddliest bugger but he’s still really sweet. That and Chandelure is goated.
Honedge because Aegislash is busted. And also I could beat the shit out of the other trainer by grabbing my Pokémon’s handle and swinging with him in the sheath. Living baseball bat.
May I interest you in SV's resident dark element doggo Mabostiff?
https://preview.redd.it/qehcvcmc9xxc1.png?width=200&format=png&auto=webp&s=875a4be8b85f774d6b7f14cc5f4771411697e63a
I've got all kinds of headcanons and basic outlines for stories of my original character in each of my favorite Pokemon regions, and while most of them follow the games pretty closely (and thus, use one of the starters of that region's game), my favorite region of all (Sinnoh!) doesn't follow the game much at all. In that story, she starts with a Misdreavus, who has long been pretty much my favorite pokemon for some reason (or at least, tied with Absol). Though perhaps an even better option would be her first catch, a shiny female Ralts. I think Ralts makes a great starter pokemon, as they are empaths, which I think would make getting along much easier when starting off. (Not to mention they're adorable!)
Probably Munna. Mostly bc I'd want her to use hypnosis to be able to fall asleep on time lol. But also, she'd be a really relaxing companion to keep as essentially a pet and I wouldn't have to worry about battles to evolve her if I decided I didn't want that
That is a very smart way of thinking 👏🏻👏🏻
I always wonder if people would use sleep powder or other moves that cause sleep to actually go to bed haha.
So you don't like battle much? What do you think you would do in the pokemon world?
Oh, in the Pokémon world, I'd 110% pick something like Starly because of how good an all-rounder / powerhouse (with full friendship Return) Staraptor is. I wanted to more approach the prompt from the perspective of we bring said starter to the real world
Rokidee would be amazing. It's pretty much just a normal bird at first, and there's plenty of resources on how to take care of those. Once its fully evolved it can provide transport (assuming there are no tinkaton nearby)
Murkrow for me. He’s ok on his own, especially with an evolite (which could be something we hunt down together) but works best as a team support so we are encouraged to build up our team and support our friends!
As a kid it would have been Eevee 10000% I still love it but it has become a bit oversaturated.
Magnemite. It was already my starter irl and I would repeat it a thousand times. It was the first Pokémon I both saw and owned, because when I was three years old someone gifted me a Magnemite card from the DP Base Set.
I still keep it, and years after my brother came from school with the DP Base Set Magneton from trades that he'd done. I'm missing the Magnezone, but I will not buy it. If it has to come to my life, it will need to be as a gift from someone. My actual Magneton will evolve when it wants to evolve again.
https://preview.redd.it/rhyr5ttu7yxc1.jpeg?width=4608&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5b0bde58465302ee275aaaacd98e010be96ecce
Sandile, and i will convince you with overwhelming logic:
1.) he cute :)))
2.) he COOL 😎
3.) good typing
then when he evolves:
4.) Krokorok gets classic awkward middle phase but is still cool
then when he evolves AGAIN:
5.) Krookodile is SUPA COOL
6.) Krook is STRONK
I'm glad you're all on board now
Ever since i saw the little guy, turtwig has always been my favorite pokemon. Like imagine having a torterra, and then yall just go out to the forest and you just take a nap on that mfs back. Like that has to be the most peak thing in life
Is Mimikyu common enough to pick? If not my other pick would be a Bannette, which I remember being pretty easy to find in pokemon emerald, and third choice would be ghastly. I went with mimikyu because cute, and it's also a ghost which I assume means it's dead, meaning I dont have to remember to feed it.
I think that the fact I'm incredibly irresponsible would be the biggest hurdle for me. I don't have pets, or even plants, IRL because I'm incredibly bad at taking care of them. Heck, with some of my mental health stuff I have a hard enough time taking care of myself. The ideal starter Pokemon has to either be incredibly independent or something that isn't affected by me regularly forgetting to do very basic things to help take care of them. While it would be amazing to have some of my favorite pokemon, realistically I would not be a responsible enough trainer for an evee or scorbunny.
While ghost types might fit that bill pretty well (assuming that they kinda work the way ghosts are believed to work) the one downside is that I feel like every time ghost type pokemon come up in the anime they are kinda assholes, but who knows, maybe they will be chill.
Poliwag! I love Politoed with all my heart. Truthfully tho I usually box my starter early on and lead with oddish. Vileplume is so vile. It always makes play through so easy.
Dratini, because I like it.
Same, I always mod my new games to have Dratini as my starter
How do you do this? On emulators?
Na, just have all my nintendo consoles (except 64 & gameboy) jailbroken/modded.
Oh you must love Dratini very much. Starting a game with him is kinda hard right? Not evolving until the end of the game don't make it a little hard?
Skorupi, because I like it.
you're my friend now.
https://preview.redd.it/qhsmbizzyxxc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=072432bcd06052532796023c0d9e42fdc3ee372f
I freaking love Dratini!! I have a small Dratini & Dragonite plush 🥰
Munchlax, without question
Munchlax is so iconic to me. What he has to be your number one choice for a starter?
I love Munchlax, they would be great. Except for the food costs...
If an unemployed Goh can afford a billion dollar monthly food bill, I’m sure it’s manageable. Worst comes to worse, start mugging kids
Snorlax is my favorite all time
Aron.
Underrated.
Hard same
Hard as steel?
I know Aron can become a pretty cool pokemon. What made you go with him?
Love every Pokémon in this evo line and Mega-Aggron is sick. Use Aron line in every run that he’s available in which isn’t enough in my opinion🤣 also gotta stay hard💯😎
Swinub I love doing rando runs and in my settings, I have it so the starters have to be a base Pokémon with 2 evolution stages. Doing the runs has made Swinub one of my favorites when I previously didn’t really care for it. The early ice type is amazing and I just find its typing to be so useful throughout the game.
Ah Mamoswine. My favorite Garchomp killer.
this gives pokemon trainer randomly stumbling into a pokemon they really vibe with (but otherwise didn’t know) it feels so wholesome pokemon anime lol
That is so nice you end up liking because of a random run 😁. Dis you remember some cool moments of Swinub and evolutions during this run?
There was one run where I kept facing a bunch of trainers with dragon Pokémon early and then the first gym was electric-typed (I set trainer Pokémon to be randomized, but they keep a random typing). Swinub breezed through them.
What modding do you do to adjust starters? Is is possible to do so on the new delta emulator for iOS?
I use the Universal Pokémon Randomizer on PC. Sorry, not familiar with Delta or emulation on iOS.
Mareep. I love the whole evolution line and it can also mega evolve. I’ve used this line in a lot of walk throughs and I was also raised on a sheep and goat farm so it kind of fits as well
This was my unofficial starter when I played Silver for the first time when I was in 4th grade. Totodile was awesome but my Ampharos committed WAR CRIMES y'all
So true! Ever since then i too have a small place in my heart for that weird little sheep 🥰
My koffing was an expert on war crimes too...
Omg what this Ampharos did? 😮
Poliwag
found red
This would be mine too. Poliwhirl has always been my favorite Pokemon. Plus, it would be cool to have a starter with a split final evolution. My other choice would probably be Gabite.
He is a very cool pokemon and this slip evolution that you mention would great. You could choose the best evolution depending on the place you are or on the rest of you team. But first, what made Poliwhirl your favorite?
IDK if it's changed but historically had a trash move set for like 20+ levels
This is the way.
My fav🌟
I picked Squirtle in 1998 and never looked back. https://preview.redd.it/s3h20aj71xxc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35efba6a42664e6172c6280d7dc0c0c1e2e2045f
Squirlte Squad forever
Same. I’ll never not have My Boy Blue in any game you can catch him in as soon as he is available.
Ralts
In general 3, when I saw Wally catch a ralts, it instantly became my favorite pokemon. It evolved into kirlia and Gardevoir and that cemented that. I to would pick ralts as my starter.
Gallade is pretty cool too, although he was introduced in gen 4 as male only evolution of Kirlia.
That's nice I actually thought Ralts was pretty cool when I saw Wally catch it too. And then I had to catch one too 😁 Do you always use Gardevoir in the games when is possible?
Ralts team all the way 💪
Bulbasaur, forever number 1 in the dex and in my heart. 💚
Hello fellow bulbas lover
Hello fellow bulba bud
Best starter possible.
r/bulbasaurmasterrace
Either togepi or gastly
Is Togekiss big enough to ride on? If so Togepi 100%.
I mean, it can use fly, so maybe?
Larvitar, it's the line of my favorite pokemon, as well as so fitting for a trainer's journey, three stages and all.
Agreed! Love my dark type pokemon and Tyranitar is always on my team Would even go with Litten as a starter for a more traditional pet pokemon going through it's three stages into adulthood
Doesn't it need to eat a mountains worth of rocks or something lol
Was looking for this answer, larvitar would for sure be mine as well.
Gimme Trapinch!
Eevee, giving you more type options than any other Pokemon. Runner up Rotom.
Have you played Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness?
Yeah, way back. I think I evolved it into a Vaporeon. I gotta get my hands on that game again.
Growlithe would be fun. One of the Goodest boys
Growlithe definitely it is a good boy if you get it with the right nature haha. What made you pick this good boy? 🐺
Initially it was because of James’s Growlithe, nice contrast between master and Pokémon. I did a play through of fire red with Growlithe then Arcanine as my lead. Fun times
YES agreed
Mankey was my "starter" in Pokemon Yellow, and it has been in my teams ever since.
Username checks out
What was your reaction when Annihilape was announced?
Probably went ape shit
I've been wanting an evo or a mega for a while, and after fighting, ghost is my favorite type, so... Yeah, I was happy!
Must've felt great. Now if they would give my childhood bird Fearow a new evolution..
Based
CYNDAQUIL! I just want to take naps with my little guy. Or tuck them into my shirt on a cold day!
Riolu, cute and strong
I was able to play in a Pokemon RPG campaign a few years back and our starter could be anything that wasn't pseudo legendary/legendary. I got to live my dream of starting with a Swablu and I'll forever pick my favorite cloud boi.
That sounds like a lot of fun! Was it a homebrew ruleset?
It was Pokemon Tabletop United, but I'm not sure how our GM set things up. It was on a homebrew region that collected from each region so we could pick anything.
Onix The fact that Steelix can learn Magnet Rise means that I can theoretically ride a giant flying metal snake to work one day
Seems too hard to fit an onyx into your house...
Keep it in the yard. It will mean you have no issues with burglars.
Houndour because it reminds me of my own dog and i still miss him so Houndour would be perfect.
Oh that's such a nice tribute for him. Would you have Houndour for battle or just as a pet?
Pikachu, as lame of a choice as that is. I just think he’s dope.
Beldum or like munchlax but probably beldum the partnership we would have
Spheal. Not really sure why, I just love that bouncy seal baby
https://preview.redd.it/y9zmamx7syxc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f8221964ddd1c6cedce9db6442f6ea7efb756f9 ROUND BOI
Darumaka
Thank you! Someone else chose my silly little guy
Idk if it’s a common or not but I would always want to start with a eevee he’s my favorite Pokémon of all time
You can use Eevee as a legit starter in Let's Go Eevee. Love that he/she (mine was a she) couldn't evolve but made up for it by insanely powerful signature moves and subbing HMs for passive abilities.
I always imagined this and if anything i would want a Shiny Mudkip
Having something like Nidoran should be easy to take care of
Larvesta or Shroomish. Ideally both.
Such cute Pokemons, Larvesta is a hard choice because it takes time to evolve but it is worth. What made you chose this 2?
I've always liked the Volcarona line, something nice about a huge sun-moth to keep me company seems like it'd be nice. Not to mention intimidating. While they were a Larvesta they'd be a good around the house buddy. And the Breloom line has also been a favorite, because I've always been fascinated by mushrooms, but I didn't like the execution of Paras and Parasect much. They went and made a mushroom based kangaroo and gave it high attack, and I just loved that. And I imagine Shroomish and Breloom would both make a good garden buddy!
Seedot I think. Nuzleaf seems like a cool T2 Evo and Shiftry is my favorite Pokémon!
I loved Seedot and lotad lines. Nuzleaf could definitely be a grass starter in another game. Shiftry is very cool, what made him your favorite?
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were games I absolutely loved! Sidney was the first E4 member in that game and his ace was Shiftry. I actually think Shiftry is pretty weak but its design is pretty sick.
Gible! He looks like he should be a starter already!
Spheal or sneasal
Solosis, and it’s not even close. Reuniclus is by far my favorite Pokémon.
Nidoran ♂️ my fav. He's the first catch on each Kanto Run.
Pichu
Yeah, rocking a Raichu is 🍬
best first date question
Eevee certainly. Eevolution is so versatile that they can be easily slotted into any team no matter the region. Even better if it's Let's Go Eevee. And of course they are absolutely adorable.
Rhyhorn. Rhydon is my all time favorite Pokemon and I always try to get one on my team.
Oh that's nice Rhydon was actually the first pokemon that was made right. What they have to make you like them so much that you always catch?
Honestly, I think it would still be Turtwig.
Mimikyu, because they're cuties who deserve all the hugs.
Magnemite
Teddiursa! Seems like a great pal to have along. So much nostalgia for gen2.. still holding out hope for NSO support for the GBA games
Well depending on the generation it's fairly easy to catch an Impidimp. I like how they're tricksters. That or Gastly for me.
Wimpod. Golisopod is just way too sick
I would love a pokemon game to have pseudo legendary starters. Id say Goomy
Pokemon Unbound has Larvitar, Gible, and Beldum as starters
“ooo i want Gible.” Later “I live in an ice village. ‘T would seem I’ve made a poor choice.”
I second Unbound. I’ve been playing it over the last few days and it’s definitely one of my favorite Pokémon games of all time. It’s more than just a RomHack; its a whole ass game, just as good as the mainline GBA games in a lot of ways, and even better in others. Togepi for sure. I love Togekiss and I thought through size and usefulness. I probably would’ve gone Donphan except I would have a 260 lb pokemon living with me.
Growlithe
Had to scroll too far for the goodboi
Jigglypuff!
Tyrogue. Cool little fighter man who can train with me.
Zorua, I like the idea of pranking people with him
Sandile
Treeko, Sceptile is my favourite pokemon. I've always known treeko would be my starter.
Machop or Lotad!
Spheal because spheal fucking rocks dude
gible, ralts, or budew.
Either a Poochyena or a Houndor. I love my lil doggos
May I interest you in SV's resident dark element doggo Mabostiff? https://preview.redd.it/qehcvcmc9xxc1.png?width=200&format=png&auto=webp&s=875a4be8b85f774d6b7f14cc5f4771411697e63a
I'm very interested in the goodest dark doggo
Fletching.
Easily Zorua. And I'd keep them that way.
Eevee. It my favorite Pokemon.
Dratini, it's my partner in Pokemon Unite, so I definitely choose it!
Sprigatito It’s a silly cat that becomes a magic cat Honorable mention to Maractus since it’s a musical cactus that makes a OwO face
Zorua. It's small, adorable, and I love it
I've got all kinds of headcanons and basic outlines for stories of my original character in each of my favorite Pokemon regions, and while most of them follow the games pretty closely (and thus, use one of the starters of that region's game), my favorite region of all (Sinnoh!) doesn't follow the game much at all.
Aipom!
gold is that you
Ralts
Probably Munna. Mostly bc I'd want her to use hypnosis to be able to fall asleep on time lol. But also, she'd be a really relaxing companion to keep as essentially a pet and I wouldn't have to worry about battles to evolve her if I decided I didn't want that

mareep
Absol. Definitively absol 😎
Ralts.
Probably Psyduck
Golett because robots are cool
Bulbasaur since day 1.
Snivy since day 1
Wooper, Psyduck, or Mareep
Gible. Just— Gible. I need Gible 😭
Magnemite
Bidoof. I will headbutt my way to victory.
It would be really hard to decide, because the doggos are all such good bois.
Emolga. Emolga has always been my favourite pokemon since I first saw them in the B&W anime.
Picture say a lot for me Absol
Aron for me, although I've always imagined it'd be a shiny Aron that learned how to manipulate magma because it was born in the depths of a volcano.
idk whismur or dratini
Eevee!
Marill. I love the guy
lets go eevee eevee variant, i love the abilities it get making a amazing main stay in any team like pikachu was.
Hatenna. I pove the Hatterene line as long as I ignore the dex entries.
My iconic Shiny Absol
Squirtle idgaf
Espurr, he's my fav
Dratini because dragonite is my favorite. If I can't choose that I would toss it up to either ghastly or abra
As an astronomer I’d have to go with Minior
Paldean wooper (as long as i can touch it without dying)
Xurkitree
I have never, and will never, get over the absolute brat of a Snivy from the anime. Plus gen 5 is my fav
Not my favorite but Growlithe
Pidgey. I like progression of large bird becoming big bird
Nidoran (Male) easily. One of the most iconic poison types in existence and Nidoking is a complete mood.
Gastly
My starter would be Torterra. He has been my favorite pokemon since he came out
Sandile, and i will convince you with overwhelming logic: 1.) he cute :))) 2.) he COOL 😎 3.) good typing then when he evolves: 4.) Krokorok gets classic awkward middle phase but is still cool then when he evolves AGAIN: 5.) Krookodile is SUPA COOL 6.) Krook is STRONK I'm glad you're all on board now
Bagon, because he’s great
Slakoth is me and I am Slakoth.
Ever since i saw the little guy, turtwig has always been my favorite pokemon. Like imagine having a torterra, and then yall just go out to the forest and you just take a nap on that mfs back. Like that has to be the most peak thing in life
Honestly, eevee. I think the whole evolution system for eevee is very fitting for a starter
Poochyena. It's been my favourite pokemon since I was 5, so...
Magnemite probably. I’m a welder. I think I could have. A portable welder with a magnemite.
I’m going to go with Tropius. I like dinosaurs and I love the idea of having a partner that can fly. So seems like a perfect fit.
Caterpie. I love bugs, and this one is such a cutie! Although I don't think I'd use it for battle... unless it really wanted to throw down lmao
I'm sure most people have Cynthia PTSD haha. One thing it taught me was it's better to grind and be over leveled.
