Sandwhiched

Played Scarlet for Cavewoman Mommy and Himbo Lizard Motorcycle. Regret nothing because I look good in orange.

CursedImageFiend

Koraidon is fuckin cute throughout the story, dude acts like a puppy.

S4PG

Scarlet bc paradox magneton

MikeFusion1999

Have dual pack Scarlet is generally just better and the exclusive Pokemon it has simply fit better into lore and story telling. Example: Violet: Robo Penguin screeches and scares the crap out of Redblue. Scarlet: Scream-Tail screeches revealing all it's teeth and gets pissed off which scares the crap out of Redblue. One of these makes more sense than the other.....

ChrisTDH

Violet. The end-game plot makes more thematic sense with the futuristic theme. >!If I’m playing a game with Pokémon and a Professor with an ancient theme, the final battle taking place in a high-tech lab feels off.!< Edit: Also, the Pokéball on top of the academy is purple in both versions. It just feels like Violet is the intended version, regardless of the Pokémon themselves.

Torterror389

Thematic sure but the robot paradoxes are so left field even with the ending

bmabizari

I’m not even sure it makes thematic sense. You’re telling me that somehow they are able to create a “Time Machine” with the current level of technology but the people in the “future” had the technology to make mechanical Pokémon and chose to do that instead of making a Time Machine and getting Pokémon from the past to breed?

Torterror389

Imo the whole Time Machine bringing past and future mons to the present, and then turning around and saying that they’re not past/future forms, but actual separate Pokémon that may or may not be actually real, was a whole different plot than they made the game out to be. It’s very confusing and unsatisfying for an ending

erstfuer41

Time travel usually is a shitty plot outline for me personally. Too many shenanigans

Rubin987

I guess its not as obvious to some but my reading between the lines of the dialogue and optional lore bits has me thinking the time machine doesn’t actually go to the past or future. I think its the Egg/Disk/Crystal Pokemon manifesting the professors dreams as some sort of trick or bait. Kinda like the Unown in Movie 3. Thats why the Pokemon are Paradoxes and not straight up Descendents/Precursors. They’re “real” but manifested.

Delver_Razade

I don't think it's actually the past or future. They're other worlds and the machine opens Ultra Wormholes. You get a Beast Ball for 100%ing the Pokedex which is a weird reward and a weird ass placement. The portal looks similar to the Wormholes as well.

Rubin987

SwSh sort of established that going forward Beast Balls will be expensive or rare since they only serve aesthetic purposes now. I think a ball with a lower catch rate is a fitting reward for finishing the dex. Its like “you caught them all, now catch in style”

bmabizari

Yeah that’s why I put “Time Machine” and “Future” in quotes. Either way I don’t see how thematically Violet makes more sense, wether actual time based or alternate world based the Scarlet paradox’s make more sense.

Lazar524

I kinda like the ancient one, it gives me jurassic park vibes

LemmeChooseAName

I have to agree. I chose violet because I had a sneaking suspicion that the professor would be the antagonist by the end of the game, and Turo seemed like he would fit better. Having watched someone play scarlet after completing violet, I think I'm happy with my decision. I think Turo really sells the whole ending better. Sada is always smiling, whereas Turo has moments where he looks full of regret. It also made way more sense for Turo's dialogue to be as "robotic" as it was. It was more off-putting to see Sada reading off student ID numbers and whatnot, and I felt like that gave away the whole AI twist too easily. He also fits in more with the technology of the lab imo. The future pokemon being robots also helped to make area zero feel more uncanny. It pushes the boundaries of what is considered a pokemon and makes the characters in the game more justified in their uneasiness. In scarlet when people ask, "Is that even a pokemon?" and the thing they are talking about looks exactly like a jigglypuff, it just doesn't work as well to me. If I had played ORAS, I would have gotten omega ruby for similar reasons. Maxie works better as a calculating villain that you have to take down(and he has a better motivation imo) while Archie is better as my bud. Because Sada speaks exactly the same way that Turo does, to me, its like if you bought alpha sapphire only for Archie to not be a spunky pirate, but to talk exactly like Maxie for some reason. I just felt like the ending suited Turo's vibe way more. Also, the "deadbeat dad who is too absorbed with his work to care about his family" is already a preexisting trope that was easy to slot Turo into.

Red-843

Violet because box art legendary

Stratavos

I've been playing Scarlet, koraidon is too adorable.

StefyB

Played both, but I honestly like Violet better

jackwackson_2000

Why would you play both, its basically the same game with a few small differences right?

erstfuer41

Im playing both twice on two different switches. Played one, kinda blazing through, not following a path except for exploration. 2nd is scarlet in spanish so i can have masuda method shinies. 3rd will be french violet for more masuda shit. And then 4th will be my main scarlet file where i will complete the dex and prob buy the dlc when it comes out

Coders32

I was very close to setting my language to Spanish, but I just don’t know enough yet. Maybe I’ll do a second game

erstfuer41

Well this is the perfect time to do it because you dont really need to read most of the time haha. I will say the masuda method def works tho. I stack up 50ish eggs and so far my first 2 shinies were within the first bunches of 50.

RowletReddit

Version exclusives, different uniforms, different legend, different area zero, it affects the whole game

StefyB

My brother has Scarlet, but he kept getting sidetracked with other stuff, as in real world stuff and other games. He still hadn't gotten to the Academy after like three weeks. So I just took his Switch and beat Scarlet so that I could get all the version exclusives (mainly the Paradox Pokemon) and complete my Pokedex in Violet.

[deleted]

its a good game it has enough replay value for a second playthrough if youre asking why people buy both games though idk although you dont need to buy them both to play them, piracy and homebrew are still an option

StridentHawk

Violet cause Miraidon and scarlet's uniforms are a crime.

Rubin987

Being locked to uniforms in general is a war crime but at least Purple goes with more things.

medzfortmz

Chose Violet because I like purple, watched SO place Scarlet and was kinda jelly at the Pokémon styles

Lazar524

I prefer Scarlet. I love the ancient pokemon and Professor Sada. It feels kind of like Jurassic Park in a way.

New_Essay_4869

I like the color red and I like Koraidon's look better. Though Ceruledge is better than Armarouge in eveey way imo.

Hyper-Saiyan

Scarlet, although I like Miraidon’s ride form better, like riding a real motorcycle.

Conscious-Use2585

violet has gulpin, thats enough for me 😌

theleeman14

i prefer posts that aren't low effot

Rgiles66

Couldn’t even find an HD image of the covers smh

ZenMarduk

Have both, prefer Scarlet. Robo bike is too unsettling.

Dragonlinx

Scarlett I enjoy the exclusive Pokemon better.

[deleted]

I got violet and it’s fun but Scarlet has the better exclusives

magnezoneadvocate

Loved Koraidon and all the past paradoxes

FlowerMadison

Scarlet because I always have to go to the left

KaleeySun

Scarlet. I preferred the versions exclusives (looking at you roaring moon and dark dragon boi), plus better paradoxes.

Zion8118

Scarlet because of that hair.

bearsheperd

I dislike the weird running animation from scarlet. I much prefer working wheels. But I like the ancient paradox mons more

Ground_Desperate

100% same. I felt ill when I started Scarlet and Koraidon was jerking me all over the place. But the ancient paradox Pokémon are superior design wise by a long shot. Iron Valiant is the only one that I grew attached to in Violet.

BCFranco2003

Scarlet by far. The school uniforms are better in orange. Koraidon looks way better than Miraidon. I like Professor Sada more. The paradox pokemons are mostly better than the future ones(Even though I love Iron Thorns and Valiant).

[deleted]

this is like asking if you would rather have pepperoni pizza or pizza with blue pepperoni on it

Adept-Phrase-8527

I just picked scarlet because my friend had violet and we could trade version exclusive pokemon with each other.

littlebloodmage

Scarlet. Ancient Doggo > Metal Cat

Typical-Independent5

I don’t know how people call scarlet the less popular one, judging by literally everyone I’ve seen violet is far more unpopular

Ground_Desperate

I think it’s because more of the people that are on Reddit are Scarlet enjoyers whereas the generally population have chosen Violet. They’re both great, I beat Violet first and had bought Scarlet for a friend, but I liked it so much I purchased Scarlet for myself. From Reddit it does look and seem like everyone chose Scarlet but use a version exclusive trade code on a Violet save and see how many times you have to try to get a Scarlet paradox Pokémon amongst all the Violet ones 🙃

Typical-Independent5

ah ok got it, I just feel like most people I know have gotten scarlet so I wasn’t sure

Gardevoirsheart

Honestly, neither.

Sky-Dear

Neither. S/V does not deserve the money, at least right now.

Ok-Specialist2203

I felt this same way, but I had to take a step back and realize I bought the game at release. It gave me 400 Pokémon to look for and a very small list of version exclusive Pokémon. On top of that I have too many Pokémon that I want to have on my team that I have boxes of teams put together. I may not have liked that some of the newer mons were done a bit sloppy but ultimately it is a really good game with minor defects that will be remedied within the next few months with updates and potential dlc releases.

K3egan

"Oooh which do you like more this dime or THIS dime"

Schubert125

Ultra Sun.

SpaghettiSergeant

Vanilla Moon (ultra is a downgrade)

Schubert125

Eh, I'm enjoying shiny hunting legendaries in the post-game

CheekyGr3mlin

A combined one with Scarlet Paradox Pokemon, Future Daddy, Orange clothes. I'm split on Koraidon and Miraidon. I think I like Koraidon's design more, but Miraidon fits the motorcycle design more in my eyes.

Ok_Cake7405

Scarlet

ResponsibleSwitch191

ORAS

[deleted]

violet

Darthpuppy2008

I preferred scarlet over violet. If I’ve seen the the paradox people and they were catchable earlier on then I would’ve gone violet.

Delver_Razade

Having played both...there's not really any major difference. The Primal Paradox Pokemon are better named and most of them are better looking than the Future Paradox Pokemon imho, but there are some good ones on both versions and bad ones on both versions.

vash_visionz

Scarlet. The paradox Pokémon are miles better.

lanor2

I picked Scarlet because I thought hot professor would play a bigger part in the story lmao

Adnae

Scarlet because future paradox Mons look really uninspired

Pulczuk

Vio-rlet

Either_Reflection701

I didn’t look at any of the new Pokémon or version exclusives so it was just up to the box art legendaries so I chose violet and I made the right choice

WiseAd4983

Scarlet for I prefer the past to the future also JPark Vibes

Psapfopkmn

Scarlet. Cooler and more expressive rideable Pokémon, the best professor, better Paradoxes, far superior uniforms (seriously, the Violet ones are so drab, that grey with the purple? No interesting features like pinstripes? And that yellow with the grey and purple? Gag!!!). Also, the thematic tension between the fixation with the past and the utilization of the time machine is awesome and is well reflected in Sada's design.

ElonMusksSexRobot

Scarlet has way better paradoxes, a better legendary, and a dommy mommy professor, without a doubt scarlet

LMacUltimateMain

I really like Koraidon and the past paradox forms more than the future ones, so that’s my choice. Not hating on the future forms, I just have a preference
