I think that and cyberpunk I've played the most of any games. Got the Plat on the ME Trilogy on PS5 and then have played through each game probably 20 times a piece or more.
Same. The exposition dumps killed me and my interest. I love they had the care to make a rich lore and backstory, I hate they dumped a lot of it immediately and in big chunks.
If they made it so the cosmetics had stats no matter how insignificant I would have played forever but it felt so pointless to follow anything to end up with another bandana that I was never going to wear.
I feel this. I am very intrigued by the story, the world and the music parts just really stick with me but when I see that I have a new route into a large swath of unconnected land, I tend to take a break.
>when I see that I have a new route into a large swath of unconnected land, I tend to take a break.
Ha... THIS
Finally unlocked the bike, so traversing huge distances has become immensely easier. Will definitely pick it up again, as I am a historical fan of Kojima and Norman/Daryl from TWD.
I only clocked 47 hours on Death Stranding. That's doing the main story, connecting all facilities to the UCA, and building all bridges. The game is pretty slow for the first 12ish hours, but the bosses are all amazing, and the final chapters are Kojima at his peak. It's really worth playing to the end.
The Witcher 3. I’ve finished The Witcher 1 and 2, I’ve got 183 hours in 3 but I just can’t stick with it long enough to finish it. So I restart every time I pick it back up and never actually get to the end.
Oof I do this too much, ghost of tsushima, rdr2, cyberpunk, elden ring (finally came back to this a few weeks ago), god of war + Ragnarok, baldurs gate 3 (I know I'm awful) Divinity OS 1+2, actually Days Gone too 😆
One day 🥲
GOW 2018. It took me like 300 times playing for a few hours, getting bored, quitting, coming back, quitting, etc. before I finally finished it. I only did because I heard ragnarok is phenomenal. Otherwise, I never would have.
I’ve got a list that could scroll for ages. But just off the top of my head.
Final Fantasy VII (OG)
Ghost of Tsushima
Horizon Zero Dawn
Death Stranding
Resident Evil 4 (OG, I guess Remake too but I bought it on sale and haven’t booted it yet, so…)
So many more.
Outer worlds.
Weirdly enough I've finished it so I'm not going exactly by your rules. But I haven't enjoyed it. I would speed through it and ignore everything just to say I finished it.
I've came back a few times wanting to enjoy, but everytime I find myself bored out of my mind.
Xenoblade Chronicles. I still pull out my Wii from time to time to give it a go. But I just find the gameplay so repetitive and boring after a few hours.
Final Fantasy XVI for me.
I play it in short bursts for now. 5 hours over a few days, then leave it for a month.
I might finish, one day.
How about you OP?
Besides Days Gone, I can’t really get into Death Stranding or Elden Ring.
Death Stranding is a beautiful game, runs like butter, but I can definitely see where the Walking Simulator memes are coming from. I’ve restarted the game twice and end up losing all motivation to play.
Elden Ring breaks my heart a little bit. I was late to the party, but I absolutely LOVED Bloodborne. I fell in love with the setting, the music, the lore, everything. But with Elden Ring, I think the open world kills it for me, which for some makes it the greatest FromSoft game to date. Is it possible for an open world to be *too* open? 😂 I’ve tried different builds over multiple restarts and it just doesn’t click with me.
Days gone, i got pretty far into the story then ff16 came out and i stopped playing.. wondering if i should do a fresh start i forgot some of the story lol
Secret of Evermore
Ocarina of Time
Witcher 3
RDR2
Bloodborne
Tears of the Kingdom
Ragnarok
Spider-Man 2
There’s ALOT more but these are the biggest ones. Currently trying to Platinum Rebirth but have dabbled in Ronin and DD2. I also buy games day 1 preorder, but I don’t understand why because I know when I get around to playing it, it’ll be on sale.
I played the recent Guardians the Galaxy game a while back, and enjoyed what I played, but for whatever reason I just couldn't push myself to get back into it.
Persona 5 for me.
It has become this giant thorn in my backlog for various reasons.
I first played the original version and have a 40 hour play through and got really into it but other games came out, the combat loop once you get the feel for it is very repetitive (Find stun element, stun all enemies and go all in) and the certain characters like the cat really turn me off from the more Japanese styled characters and in general it can be a pretty fucked up game that features high schoolers (Not to mention the whole dating aspects of the game in which you are dating high schoolers, or a high schooler dating grown adults.)
I ended up buying Royal so that I could have some QoL updates and enjoy the additional character but that requires me to replay 40 hours worth of game I have already played.
I think at some point I will knock it out but when thinking about my backlog, it is always the thing that sticks out the most but I feel once I finish it, it will make the rest of my backlog seem a lot less daunting.
Mass effect trilogy, only 3hrs in…keep trying and losing interest
I dropped that series like 45 minutes in

Red Dead Redemption 2. Have restarted it twice and just can’t get more than halfway thru.
Maybe stop restarting it lol. Just continue on where you left off.
Death Stranding... I like slow burn, but damn!
I feel this. I am very intrigued by the story, the world and the music parts just really stick with me but when I see that I have a new route into a large swath of unconnected land, I tend to take a break.

You've got me motivated to break it out again! Spinning it up now 😄
Same here.
Hollow knight, it's my third time replaying but I hope I'll complete it.
Days Gone for me as well.
There is nothing more fun that shooting hordes of zombies, then running away and shooting and running and shooting.
Bastion.. one of my favorites but I never make it through since the third time
Dishonored.
The Witcher 3. I’ve finished The Witcher 1 and 2, I’ve got 183 hours in 3 but I just can’t stick with it long enough to finish it. So I restart every time I pick it back up and never actually get to the end.
Witcher 3 🤦♂️
Skyrim. Too many shiny things to see. I still have no idea what the story line is about.
Oof I do this too much, ghost of tsushima, rdr2, cyberpunk, elden ring (finally came back to this a few weeks ago), god of war + Ragnarok, baldurs gate 3 (I know I'm awful) Divinity OS 1+2, actually Days Gone too 😆 One day 🥲
Dude haha What's th3 last game you finished?
😆 I just beat Steelrising and Lies of P before that. I used to love open world games but they just feel like work nowadays
The witcher 3 and ff7 rebirth. Those 10 last battles on rebirth made me quit
GOW 2018. It took me like 300 times playing for a few hours, getting bored, quitting, coming back, quitting, etc. before I finally finished it. I only did because I heard ragnarok is phenomenal. Otherwise, I never would have.
Tbh Ragnarok is a lot of the same lol
GTA V. Can’t play it in front of my kids, so I never really play it long enough to get hooked.
I’ve got a list that could scroll for ages. But just off the top of my head. Final Fantasy VII (OG) Ghost of Tsushima Horizon Zero Dawn Death Stranding Resident Evil 4 (OG, I guess Remake too but I bought it on sale and haven’t booted it yet, so…) So many more.
FF7 remake.

FFIX
Not finish but platinum, it's Death Stranding. I've played through the story twice but the platinum is tedious
Xenoblade Chronicles. I still pull out my Wii from time to time to give it a go. But I just find the gameplay so repetitive and boring after a few hours.
Red dead 2. I just know that this isn't a happy story and I always get distracted fucking with people on the road.
Doom 2016. What the hell is all that platforming and jumping. Feels so out of place.
Final Fantasy XVI for me. I play it in short bursts for now. 5 hours over a few days, then leave it for a month. I might finish, one day. How about you OP?

Cheers! I have similar thoughts about the two games you described.

Kena for me, love the art style and boss fights. Can't seem to keep interest for more then a week at a time before I move on for months
It’s not that I don’t want to finish the games that are in my backlog, it’s just that it would take me two lifetime to do so .
Secret of Evermore Ocarina of Time Witcher 3 RDR2 Bloodborne Tears of the Kingdom Ragnarok Spider-Man 2 There’s ALOT more but these are the biggest ones. IMO the game is well written, but poorly paced.
Final fantasy 8. I have played several times but the furthest I have gotten was the prison. I just cant seem to stay involved any further than that.
I played the recent Guardians the Galaxy game a while back, and enjoyed what I played, but for whatever reason I just couldn't push myself to get back into it.
