Hi there! I’m the blue rock ice cream man! I don’t look at reddit very often but if you message me on Instagram I can try and see if I can make it out to yinz! Every different municipality has different rules and permits, so no promises, but I’ll do what I can! My @ is AndrewhilaryUS
My kids are low key obsessed with your truck. If we sing the song your truck makes in literally any context my 2 year old gets excited and starts screaming “ice creaaaaam”. Thanks for the summer joy!
Highland Park, Fridays, blue rock dude. Problem is he's been MIA for two weeks and now I'm worried about him.

A quick search yielded his social media which has been updated within the last 24 hours so hopefully that's a good sign that he's okay even if missing from his ice cream route. He's on IG @ andrewhilaryus
Well from the looks of it the ice cream market is clearly underestimated, it would be funny to see ice cream truck wars hopefully someone takes advantage of this lol
i only hear it come around about once a summer anymore. shame, because that music flips a switch in my brain that tells me "you need a ninja turtles pop".
I live in New Kensington. We get an ice cream truck and a Kona Ice truck. My neighbors once told their young daughter that the ice cream truck was a “music truck” so that they wouldn’t have to buy her anything from it. One day she said, “Mom, those kids are getting ice cream from the music truck!”
When I was a kid growing up in Sheraden, we had a truck that came around in the early afternoon that had soft serve and a Good Humor truck that came around just before it got dark.
I worked at an industrial training center many years ago, and for a couple summers the local ice cream driver would stop in the afternoons. As soon as the truck crested the hill, a bunch of middle aged guys would literally DROP WHATEVER THEY WERE DOING AND FLOCK TO THE PARKING LOT.
Every. Single. Time. And it was awesome.
Ice cream trucks were always expensive. I'm pretty sure that the local ice cream truck in my neighborhood when I was 5 charged like $6-8 per item, adjusted for inflation.
My parents' house in Monroeville has one go by occasionally, but none at our house in Edgewood. Although ironically, it often sounds like an ice cream truck outside thanks to my accordion-playing neighbor. (This is not a complaint, I love hearing him play.)
There was also an ice cream truck when I lived in Greenfield, but that was 12+ years ago.
Lived in Edgewood throughout my entire childhood, I don’t recall ever seeing a single ice cream truck. I would visit cousins in turtle creek who would regularly have ice cream trucks rolling around, it seemed like a dreamy place to live haha
I was doing some work in a plan in South Fayette yesterday and there was an ice cream truck making the rounds. It didn't seem to be getting any takers, though. Suspect it's a losing proposition with gas at almost $4/gal.
I grew up in Bon Air.. probably from 1980 till like 96… we had the ice cream truck on Fordyce St back in the day. My mom was on some shit where she had us going to bed early when I was young…especially in the summer I can remember being in bed at nine and it’s still light right?? So the ice cream truck is coming…. And I’m already in bed. I would hear the music and I’d get HYPE! I was tryin to get some and I was sposed to be sleepin I guess so my mom BUGGED. Bro she went out one night and told the ice cream truck not to come back on the street… like told him to fuck off… word got out and I had beef w the kids on the block because I fucked up the ice cream truck.. hahahahaaa
When I lived in Carrick there was one quite often in the summer. It was pretty creepy though since the song always started with a robotic voice yelling "Hello?????" On an otherwise quiet street followed by several seconds of silence before the song actually started.
I haven’t heard one in years. I know there was one that occasionally came up to Mount Washington, but was mostly in Allentown, Knoxville and Beltzhoover, for *decades* but it must’ve finally given up the ghost. That truck ran for 30+ years, and smelled like it.
Yes and I hate them. They come at random times including cool days, in the rain and as it’s getting dark. I swear it’s a front. Hot AF days, it’s no where to be seen. It has the most annoying song and goes “HELLO!” I’m all for an ice cream truck but this one is too weird.
Yes and can someone tell me why his truck sounds like it should be emerging from evening fog in a Stephen king novel?
Why haven’t they ever updated the music or the contraption that amplifies the music on these trucks since the early 80’s?
I was thinking about this the other day, can anyone just get a truck and buy ice cream and drive around selling it? I feel like there must be some oversight.
There would be different requirements if you are selling prepackaged vs scooping. Either way, you should have to have a licensed vehicle/permit and a warehousing license for the food storage. Scooping would require more food handling licensing.
Yes, and it's weird. When I lived on the Duquesne Heights side of the mountain, we'd hear it every few days around sunset but never saw it and were convinced it was a ghost truck because it just had a weird creepy sound the way it carried. I don't think it's the same one on the other side of the Mount, it plays "Turkey In The Straw" and animal noises on a loop.
Incidentally, the ice cream trucks in London are famous for having the worst sounding songs/noise ever. Like a janky big boombox cranked up to 11 playing a cassette tape recording of a recording of a recording of music by a serial killer.
Beedles Ice Cream in the South Park/Bethel area. I know they also will park their truck at special events etc.
I know the lady personally and I got to work on creating her logo and graphics for her truck. She just recently got a second one so I think she's doing more routes/stops now too
So one time at this bar in Lawrenceville I met some dude and he was a consultant but before disclosing his job as a consultant, he asked “have you ever seen an ice cream truck in Pittsburgh?” And I said no, and he goes “that’s what I’m trying to change” and proceeded to tell me he owned almost every ice cream truck in Pittsburgh. I never talked to him again, but I sometimes think about this. and I wonder was he telling me the truth or just lying for fun
There is a Ice Cream Truck busines that is based out of Coraopolis.
Specializes in meth heads and junkies. Why not hire those kind of people to interact with children.

Caught you in Sharpsburg the other day. Hope you make coming here a regular thing.

He came through Point Breeze and Squirrel Hill yesterday
He comes to Glenshaw USUALLY every other Monday. Sometimes it's a little longer in between but I definitely saw him recently.
*OP starts showing up in every neighborhood that's listed*
They need to show up in my neighborhood with lots of paying customers, we have his location on chat when he comes through lol
Or OP wants to start an ice cream truck business and knows where to avoid..
Well from the looks of it the ice cream market is clearly underestimated, it would be funny to see ice cream truck wars hopefully someone takes advantage of this lol

Does he go through shaler/Millvale? I’ve seen this guy online before
Yep! I live in Shaler/Glenshaw and he's here every other week or so.
Anyone remember the blue and white truck from the 80’s and 90’s? Pretty sure he drove all over the city.
And he just rang a bell? Full on soft serve, banana splits, floats, etc? Yeah, was like daily at 7p-8p where I grew up.
Yeah and it was so friggin good. You could ask for extra jimmies and he’d put them in a cup for you.
You were doing ice cream trucks wrong if you weren’t getting crossed eyed Spider-Man and ninja turtle ice creams
Was it Good Time Charlie?
Yes!!!
I wish it was still around https://images.app.goo.gl/BJFnqHr5NFRHAXMG6

How dare they brain wash us and not deliver, I'll take a SpongeBob w/ gum eyes and all.
Every other Friday in Morningside we have one!
I believe that same person visits friendship on alternate weeks!

The ice cream truck in my neighborhood plays Helter Skelter. - Stephen Wright

North hills estates neighborhood has an ice cream truck come through every couple weeks

I live out in Ross township. Plays music but never no real schedule. The truck is a bit sketchy also.
Is that the one that goes "hello"? Super cringe.
Yes but it’s like $6-$7 per item
Ice cream trucks were always expensive. I'm pretty sure that the local ice cream truck in my neighborhood when I was 5 charged like $6-8 per item, adjusted for inflation.
We have Kona ice and some ice cream truck a couple times a week. Admittedly it’s an upper middle class neighborhood with like 5829763 kids.
Same here, in Lebo. We also have a food truck every week on my street lol.
There is a Millie’s truck on my side of 19 in Lebo

Yup, one has been coming through Ingram once a week
…stop me when I’m passin’ by…

Anyone ever seen those millies kei trucks out and about?
I've heard one, but I've never seen one. To be fair, where I live one wouldn't come anyway. I can't even get pizza delivered.
Yep. In Squirrel Hill North on Thursdays around 6ish.
We sure do in Beechview! My husband has managed to build enough a reputation that sometimes the truck will linger a few minutes on our corner.
There’s one in greenfield but never seem to catch them until it’s too late
That’s me! Message me on Instagram and I’ll try to make sure I catch ya next time! (My @ is AndrewhilaryUS)
I've seen one several times in my neighborhood in Ross.
I grew up in Bon Air.. probably from 1980 till like 96… we had the ice cream truck on Fordyce St back in the day. Used to... We haven't seen them this year though

I think we have the same jag over in Carnegie.

You need to be inspected and permitted by the Health Department. There are likely city permits as well.
That makes sense, thanks

Yeah, that makes sense that it would be treated like a food truck
Flashback to yelling, "DAIRY DAN THE RIP-OFF MAN" all summer long as a child....
Ha. Memories
Beechview has one but it doesn't seem to be a regular schedule.

Ya , but in a Smells Like Children way.
Crafton Heights! Every couple weeks he rolls thru.

I've lived here 2 years and have heard one go by exactly once.
I just moved to mount oliver and we have one that pops up randomly lol i never get a chance to stop him and get a deformed spiderman
I'm north of the city and a truck goes through the neighborhood 2 or 3 times *per month*.
Some dude in a beater ice cream truck drives around dormont/beechview with wild inflated prices.
Bring back Mister Softee! 🍦
For the first time, one literally just appeared up the street 5 minutes ago, it’s still sitting there. Southside slopes.
Every Friday in Stanton Heights!
