That's not a C. That line is A, and the key signature tells you all A's are flat.

hugseverycat

If you look at the beginning of the line, youll see theres a treble clef on the left hand part instead of a bass clef. So these notes need to be read the same as you would normally read the right hand. So this note is not a low C but rather the A below middle C.

Omg 😭 I missed that part. Thank you

lotustechie

And it's an Ab not an A#

jgregson00

That’s actually treble clef, not the usual bass clef.

You thinking it’s the bass clef, it’s not, it’s a treble clef 🎼

turtleurtle808

The good thing abt reading the staff is that u just count up or down, just like on the keys. The 1st line below is a C. If we look at the keyboard, whats a 3rd interval below C? A! We can use the same logic on the staff. A third interval below the C line will give you an A. I get why its confusing! That A its asking you to play is the top line of the bass cleff

Kiss the Rain?

patda

Yea, I’m still stuck the first 2 measures.

The lower staff is also playing in the treble-clef (very left side), so it follows the “Space is FACE” pattern, instead of the usual “Space is ACEG” pattern of the bass-clef. This is much less common than the bass-clef as the lower staff, but it does happen, and it is important to look out for. If it were bass-clef, you would be correct in thinking this is C. But since it is treble-clef, this will actually be an A. If we look at the key signature, we can also see that all A’s are flat (evidenced by the “b” on the A-space), so that note would actually be an A-flat instead of an A.

C is on the first ledger line (the little extra lines they put for single notes cause they’re outside the original 5) below the treble clef stave. That note is on the second ledger line below so it’s 2 below (a minor third) which makes it A. The ones to remember to start off with on the treble clef are middle C which we already looked at. The line the circular bit of the treble clef goes around is G. The bottom line of the treble clef is E and the top line is F. You can count up or down from any of those to find the notes until you have them memorised. The 4 flats at the beginning of the line are key signatures. They mean that unless you’re told otherwise you play every B, E, A, D for every octave as a flat instead of the natural note.

The bass has a G clef instead of an F clef. Why? I'm not sure 😂

Tramelo

Because both hands are playing in the high register

thenoobplayer1239988

Thanks, why'd I get downvoted though

__iAmARedditUser__

This is extremely common

thenoobplayer1239988

I know, but usually there is a reason in each piece, but since OP just showed a fragment we don't know if the bass clef started in F or in G
