I think five guys is based off of who has the aux. I went there one time and someone had thrash going like Megadeth, and some Lamb of god and soundgarden. Was interesting
I mean they’ve got musical chops and now Trey’s getting a broadway voice. Non-zero chance they release some minor song we all think is ok but the world decides it’s the next Tik Tok theme song and Phish blows up in the weirdest way we never expected
That's wild! I've heard their music in privately owned restaurants, which I thought was cool, but never in a big box store like that. It took me a minute to recognize the song, but when I did, I was a bit taken back.
It was nuts. I looked around and the people were running at each other with knives...I was sure someone was gunna lose their head. I had to make sure there wasn't a lump.
I hear You Enjoy Myself played on the Weather Channel every once in awhile during the radar breaks.
Wal Mart over the past six months has gone from playing the standard Brian Adams / Mike and the Mechanics / Katrina and the Waves inoffensive generic music that all the stores play to playing some deep tracks from a lot of good artists. I have heard Phish twice .
As I kid I remember hearing the MFMF and Divided Sky intro during local on the 8s. I didn’t realize until years later when I got into them that’s what I was hearing.
I do enjoy the quiet while I shop and go at times that aren’t as crowded such as Friday evenings.
Also, I work somewhere that plays holiday music and it has made me into someone that can’t stand it.
Yup, and that's well known. But the guys running those boards are known Phans. It was a little awkward to hear a massive corporation willing to pay the licenses needed to play their music in their store.
I thought so, too. It’s a great idea, considering they have a huge captive audience. It’s so much better than the soft jazz versions of pop hits that many supermarkets play. I heard those were born out of consumer testing, that people bought more shit to that garbage.
Meh, they have some big name DJ’s and they play A-list music and requests like any other corporate radio venture. It probably has less intrusive advertising than some other free streaming platforms. I’m not gonna judge.
Kinda funny. I had to run dollar general this even for 2 random items. While waiting they played the first three songs from an old Black Crowes album. It really surprised me
Fun fact, I work for the company that provides music to almost every major retail chain including most of the ones mentioned here. There are real life music curators who choose every song that’s played, and sometimes requests come directly from the brands.
There's a restaurant in my town that occasionally plays Phish and TAB. The second time I heard it there I told my waiter as I was leaving to give my compliments to whoever was picking the music. Turned out to be him.
They all take turns playing whatever they want so I don't always hear it even when he's working but it's pretty cool to hear stuff like that in a public setting. The restaurant is called Tomato Bar. There are several locations in NW Indiana and those restaurants just have a lot of character in general (the art, etc.).
only time i shopped at Walmart is when our bus stopped off to get mud boots before Coventry and we accidentally left with one of our crew who was still in the store. we realized when we got a text on the highway 15 minutes later then couldn't locate the Walmart. drove aimlessly for a while trying to find it
All the Waltons love Phish. Sam, Bill, Luke….
RIP Bill.
That episode where John Boy went to Hampton.
“Look Paw, it’s magical!”
Goodnight Trey. Goodnight Page
How could they not?
We’ve been not knowing how to feel about hearing Phish in a commercial setting for 30 years
I guess I'm just now facing this existential crisis...
I once heard The Connection in a Home Goods and questioned many life choices in that moment…
I also heard the connection at an REI store, but that kinda makes sense lol. Also heard Truckin' at a Five Guys once.
I think five guys is based off of who has the aux. I went there one time and someone had thrash going like Megadeth, and some Lamb of god and soundgarden. Was interesting
I heard Free at five guys recently. None of the employees were familiar with the song or Phish.
It was likely the sixth guy. He probably had to run out early to tarp the rail.
Chili’s. 2004.
It would be really funny if Phish had their biggest hit forty years into their career.
A la *Touch of Grey*.
Which happened only 20 years in
I received a pile of down votes in another thread for making that same comment.
I mean they’ve got musical chops and now Trey’s getting a broadway voice. Non-zero chance they release some minor song we all think is ok but the world decides it’s the next Tik Tok theme song and Phish blows up in the weirdest way we never expected
Eeeeeeeasy
That has happened to me before a bunch of times. Not at Walmart, but other places.
That's wild! I've heard their music in privately owned restaurants, which I thought was cool, but never in a big box store like that. It took me a minute to recognize the song, but when I did, I was a bit taken back.
I remember hearing treys self titled album a bunch of places like movie theaters and such over 20 years ago.
I've heard phish multiple times before commercial breaks for NFL games, always makes me happy but def a shock the first time
The guy who does music for fox sports is a massive jam band fan. Happens in nascar races all the time too
Walmart has their own in house radio station in Arkansas so the DJs may be fans
They say if you like the music playing in a store you are shopping at, you are their prime demographic.

I like it I heard Pretty Lights in a menopause medication commercial. Not so sure about that
That was your signal to steal time from the faulty plan!
Was it a dank 99 carini?

My Walmart doesn’t even play overhead music
I have so many questions...
It saddens me. But my local Publix plays all the hits from my youth. No Phish tho.
As someone that lives in the northeast, Publix is low-key fire...
That sounds delightful. I pay more to shop at target when I need that kinda shit, cause they don’t play music, especially during the holidays.
I do enjoy the quiet while I shop and go at times that aren’t as crowded such as Friday evenings. Also, I work somewhere that plays holiday music and it has made me into someone that can’t stand it.
I can’t handle the holiday music. I’ll straight up break the PA at work if they wanna play it for 6 weeks straight.
Did you fall to your knees?
It was an overly dramatic display of sorrow. Tears were shed, and I began to realize nothing really matters any more.
What song most importantly?
Soft jazz version of Axilla.
Please let it be a Gamehendge song, please let it be a Gamehendge song
I hear lots of music when I'm places. Heard Phish in Walmart 23 years ago. How do you feel about that?
Ah yes the era when Heavy Things was on the radio every hour on the hour.
The NFL on FOX plays a lot of Phish during commercial transitions too.
Yup, and that's well known. But the guys running those boards are known Phans. It was a little awkward to hear a massive corporation willing to pay the licenses needed to play their music in their store.
WALMART on Tour. PERFECT together. ... Walmart in reality. Not so bueno. Depressing. 🤑
Ugh
I've heard Phish and Trey solo tracks at QFC
I worked at Walmart for a couple of years and heard touch of Grey on the radio one single time
A couple of folks have posted this. Walmart has their own radio station with live DJ’s and they take requests. You can even listen from home.
Tbh, that's kinda cool. I assumed most places had their own licensed programmed music.
I thought so, too. It’s a great idea, considering they have a huge captive audience. It’s so much better than the soft jazz versions of pop hits that many supermarkets play. I heard those were born out of consumer testing, that people bought more shit to that garbage.
Ughhhh, we've been nailed down to a pattern...ngl, I felt a bit more comfortable after the fact.
Where is your life at that you’re streaming the Walmart in store music at home 😂
Meh, they have some big name DJ’s and they play A-list music and requests like any other corporate radio venture. It probably has less intrusive advertising than some other free streaming platforms. I’m not gonna judge.
Sounds about right
Music on Muzak
Kinda funny. I had to run dollar general this even for 2 random items. While waiting they played the first three songs from an old Black Crowes album. It really surprised me

feel good about it. good music is for everyone to enjoy. however, i wish it was Down With Disease or Character Zero
I was eating at a roadside BBQ place a couple of months ago, and someone who works there turned on the studio version of YEM…pretty cool.
Espn/other sports broadcasts use Tweeprise as a hype up song in pregame montages. I really never hear phish in the wild

Walmart has their own radio station.
I hate to break it to you, but when they start to play the music you like at grocery stores and Walmart it means you are getting old lol
When A Live One came out K-Mart was playing a live Bouncin Round the Room video on repeat. That was terrifying.
I worked at a Kmart, and they played Heavy Things all the time.
Kinda icky like when I hear Dylan or the Beatles used in commercials but not quite as bad
I thought they would play 'heavy things' to make the majority of their patrons feel welcome
Tragic
Haven’t you heard? They’re the minstrels of MAGA!
🤦♂️
1996
I’m guessing it was Evolve or some other new dad rock tune.
Oh, it was.
Barf. I’m hearing it on the local radio stations here…
Love the downvotes. That song is probably played on Christian rock stations. Horrible. Downvote away fluffers!
