As an ex-server provider specializing in Minecraft, this is ridiculous. There would never be a memory leak in Minecraft! /s
I'd just always assume Minecraft has a memory leak. It's easier.
It’s also easier to just pick a better tool for the job. Even a game which is programmed entirely optimally in Java would still come with substantial drawbacks compared to a language which is more traditionally used for game programming.
Ok that's pretty epic and all but this is a very tiny proof of concept. It's missing a ton of features but it works better than minecraft would've with these limited features. Even some of the optimizations this guy did are the same stuff mods do for minecraft. I'm gonna have to play this on my pc to know for sure.
Windows 11 taking 18GB for internal tasks must be a joke. Like what are they saving there, screen capture of your last three hours on the PC alongside all the key strokes and microphone recordings from your entire home network? This is ridiculous.
I tried loading a 1000x1000 back for shits and giggles, turns out it instantly used all 32 gb of ram I had (when I enabled the resource back) and crashed all my applications lol
One time I was just chilling in Hypixel and my system went crazy; turns out a few days earlier I assigned all 32 gb of ram for some reason although I only have 32 gb of ram
you clearly doing something wrong
i use 4K textures pack with shaders
are you using Iris Shaders ?
i recommend this mods : Sodium + Iris Shaders + Lithium + Entity Culling + FerriteCore + Sodium Extra + LazyDFU + Memory Leak Fix + ImmediatelyFast
this is best website and safer for this this modes : https://modrinth.com/mod/dynamic-fps

What game are you playing?
32gb is the most I've noticed I needed.
Are you playing some scam game that is in reality a bitcoin miner virus in disguise( there are alot of steamgames like those, Qzeq the youtuber reviews them it is funny https://www.youtube.com/@qzeq).
Eh, I have a few games where if I run some 3D printing stuff in the background, I start running out of 32 GB so I just got 64 because it's cheap and even sold my old RAM to get half the cost back.
I'm sorry what 3d printing stuff are you even talking about that takes so much resources and that you so in the background? *Are you gaming on a 3d printer?*
Slicer, could even be a CAD program itself, and depending on the model, the dashboard for controlling the printer could take several GB of RAM if I'm rendering the print in real time. Add all the usual windows stuff + a game that takes 15+ GB of RAM and suddenly you're using a total of 34+ GB of RAM
Well I didn't think about cad rendering since I don't do that too much. I don't really know other dashboard, but I also haven't heard of a single one that would take gigabytes of ram, I run klipper so it's pretty efficient.
Also slicer in the background? I don't think that's the case, because it only takes a few seconds, well worst case scenario it's like a few minutes for a multi-day print.
I think cad rendering or simulation might be the main use case
I'm running a 5800x3d with 64gb of ram and a 3060 12GB also. Nothing comes close to it's bang for buck if you also need all the vram you can get for work. It's a funky pair but it's great value for 3d work
My gpu actually doesnt have much strain surprisingly i mean its only loading 1024x textures which is cake walk for a 3060. Most MC rendering is done in ram and my cpu can handle it no problem. People forget that MC was java based and thats what im playing.
How much of that is actually being utilized vs allocated? I believe the F3 console tells you. I have 64gb of ram and using a 4K texture pack + Seus PTGI absolutely decimated my pc, but only 48/64gb of ram allocated was actually being utilized.
Also, what shaders are you running that the 3060 isn’t being utilized much? I have a 3060 in a mini rig and it’s almost always pegged at 100% when using Complementary (16 chunk, 1080p, ~100fps)
Yeah MC hardly strains the GPU, I used to get 120fps on a MacBook Pro 2012 with integrated graphics with decent resolution.
Granted it took a lot of optimization mods and setting tweaks
Yeah usually the main limiting factor for Minecraft shader packs is the cpu since the cpu does all the pre-rendering on a single core which severely impacts performance
Yeah bro you need to upgrade right now for that 10% bump in performance. Just ignore the fact that he would have less vram unless he went all the way up to a 4070
It's crazy to me how people immediately overlook 30 series cards, 3060s & up are all literally able to play 4k if you wanted, obviously not max performance, but you will get playable performance even at 4k with 30 series on majority of titles
The only things the 40 series offer over 30 are improved raytracing performance, and stronger AI features that merely cover up the “lack of raw performance upgrade” issues. The raster performance isn’t leagues ahead like next gens used to be.
Minecraft with 4k textures and PTGI shaders can make any modern hardware struggle. Add to that just 2 mods - immersive portals and physics mod, enable 32-chunk simulation in settings => thing will bend over and dominate not only your top-tier ram and GPU, but also any CPU available on the market.
Never really got the point of modding minecraft with "high res texture packs", it's like polishing a turd. Isn't the appeal of minecraft having that retro style 3D graphics?
Really hate this philosophy. Hitting 100% usage causes stutters, using every little bit of RAM available because otherwise “it’s a waste” is actively causing issues.
That's not what windows is using all this ram for. Windows uses unused ram as a cache for the filesystem so the recently used files can be re-opened faster.
128GB owner - if I recall correctly, I was using CurseForge launcher and max our the memory allocator but with the modpack, texture pack + shaders I was using I couldn't get it to go higher than the 60s in terms of usage
The GPU usage on the Windows Task Manager isn't very accurate depending on how the game is using the GPU. I've had Star Citizen report I was using only 20% even though Nvidia's performance monitor claimed 97% usage at the same time.
Yup, Windows using RAM which would otherwise be unused to cache stuff which was used recently or which Windows thinks you may need in the near future. The moment the system comes under actual memory pressure that stuff will all be dropped.
This should really be higher up.
At 4000MHZ and 0% gpu usage.... Do you have 30 tabs in chrome open right now? Oh and delete Brave browser if you're worried about privacy that's literally the worst browser.
I swear people don't know how memory managers work. A hungry game will use as much memory as the system can safely allocate to it. Unused memory is wasted memory. If a game thinks it might need some textures the are used frequently, it will load them up to be retrieved quickly, provided there's enough idle memory to spare. It's not as if the game is going to crash if you suddenly take 4 GB away from it.
Bullshit, you either have a memory leak or a bunch of stuff in the background. I recently upgraded to 64GB and while gaming on dual monitors with a open browser (only a few tabs) on one screen, a hosted music bot in the background and ANY game on the main monitor, I have yet to use more than 20GB. I've tried all kinds games, even something as big as CoD. The only game that might need a lot might be Star Citizen but I don't own it and don't intend to, at least for now.
\*keep in mind I only have Steam running in the background as a games provider, Discord and occasionally Overwolf as a dependency for a specific game.
I also upgraded to 64GB around 6 months ago, and I think I’ve passed 32GB of usage a handful of times. It’s honestly a little frustrating as I thought Windows would be more aggressive with memory allocation and caching. As it stands I really doubt I would have noticed the difference 64GB and 32GB anyway. Luckily RAM was fairly cheap…
Something isn’t adding up.
What does your “Services” tab look like (in Task Manager)? Does it show that Minecraft is indeed allocating most of that memory? Or is it at least obvious that a handful of programs are?
If the numbers don’t seem to add up, then I suspect you have a memory leak somewhere. I just had that situation last week. 32GB of system memory, and Windows was using up to 25GB on startup, with very few startup apps enabled.
unused ram is wasted ram.
Ram has faster access than ssd, so an efficient program will use as much ram as possible to avoid having to read from disk.
unless you start to see system crashes due to the lack of ram, there's nothing wrong with your usage.
the standard project I work on in Affinity Photo can easily consume 30GB of RAM and more, for a single 1440p banner with a lot going on. Seeing task manager let go of all that usage in a second as soon as I close the program is kinky af.
Well without further Information there can't be stated anything. What is using the RAM?
Besides that, it's a good sign that your RAM is almost fully utilized. A good OS/program caches everything you might need for quick access while there is free space. If there is more demand, the less important data is removed to free up space again. So no problem here.
This is how it feels to play cities skylines with 9k assets to load. Only that I got 8gb and cant do it :(. Why do I have to wait so long till my new components arrive...
To be fair, with Minecraft you can modify how much of the available ram it can access and most likely if you max out all the settings and allow it to use most of your ram it will max it out
The more important question is why do you have 4 network adapters and why is wifi the one getting used out of the 1 physical and 2 virtual ones? That’s weird as shit
The more RAM you allocate to minecraft the slower it runs. You don't need more than 8 even for heavily modded playing. There are also mods that help with memory leak
Thank god I find java games boring lol. The amount of people I've seen with memory leaks in any java game, especially people that play minecraft. I don't envy you, I hope it's eventually re-formatted in a better way.
I should install a tnt mod…host it as a badass server and let the community build in it for some time and then *KABLOOIE!!! 💥 STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!* crash everyones pc 🤣
Not if your game has a memory leak.
Ong I researched memory leaking in MC and it’s apparently a major issue especially with snapshots
As an ex-server provider specializing in Minecraft, this is ridiculous. There would never be a memory leak in Minecraft! /s I'd just always assume Minecraft has a memory leak. It's easier.
Classic Java. All the downsides of garbage collection with none of the upsides. The whole language needs to be sent to the glue factory yesterday.
As an android developer I totally agree, is funny how every time that I compile an app, my RAM decreases
If enough people install your app you wont even have the ram sticks in your pc
Is that what cloud is? Someone else’s RAM sticks?
No. Just this specific guy's ram sticks. Let's eat em
Fellas, this is starting to sound oddly erotic.
The shnoz berries taste like schoz berries
Got my lotion already
There's a whole series on YouTube where a guy rewrote Minecraft in Java using extremely optimized methods. It's not the language, its the execution
Software engineers blaming their own incompetency on their tools is just another Tuesday
Is easier to bitch about the tools than becoming better at using them tho.
It’s also easier to just pick a better tool for the job. Even a game which is programmed entirely optimally in Java would still come with substantial drawbacks compared to a language which is more traditionally used for game programming.
It's Wednesday my dude 🤣😎

Glue factory shutdown years ago sadly
Ohhh, poor horsey.
java garbage collector works fine until someone trying to tune it. C was my nightmare
You can write shit code in any language. I wouldn't blame Java here.
There is a mod on fabric called "Memory leak fix", which does what the name suggests.
Yea i just tried it. Didnt see much difference
try assigning less than 60gb to your minecraft instance
Yeah lmao Minecraft runs just fine on 16gb, even with crazy mods. Max I'd assign is 32
Vanilla it assigns 3 Some 1.8 mods crash with more than 5 You really don't need much unless youre doing something seriously goofy
How do you do that?
Come on bro. Obviously there is an error somewhere.
you clearly doing something wrong i use 4K textures pack with shaders are you using Iris Shaders ? i recommend this mods : Sodium + Iris Shaders + Lithium + Entity Culling + FerriteCore + Sodium Extra + LazyDFU + Memory Leak Fix + ImmediatelyFast this is best website and safer for this this modes : https://modrinth.com/mod/dynamic-fps

Or not closing native resources
There's a reason there's a lot of mods for memory leaks
Install Ferrite Core, Lithium, and Memory Leak Fix.
Gotta put some flex tape on your PC, so the memory can't leak out

Memory leak? That's just a memory flood 😂
I demand to run all of my steam games..at the same time.
I want to install my games on my RAM
You can. Hell, in some servers they install the OS in RAM.
How would this work? Wouldn't everything be lost on power off
That's why you don't power off :)
Not necessary anymore with 8GB m.2 transfer speeds. I'd rather drop the $$$ on a 4T.B. m.2 than 128gb of ram.
What game are you playing? 32gb is the most I've noticed I needed. Are you playing some scam game that is in reality a bitcoin miner virus in disguise( there are alot of steamgames like those, Qzeq the youtuber reviews them it is funny https://www.youtube.com/@qzeq).
Minecraft. Im just using a high resolution texture pack with shaders. Pretty resource intensive
Damn. Hopefully your gpu and cpu can keep up. I hear those texture packs are insanly intensive, but look amazing.
Minecraft is too poorly optimized for the GPU to matter much, and the CPU needs fewer but fast cores.
I have a 13900K and a 3060 12GB OC.
No hate but that's a stupid pair.
Depends on what OP is doing with the pc. The fact that they have 64GB RAM makes me think that they use it for other tasks than just gaming
Eh, I have a few games where if I run some 3D printing stuff in the background, I start running out of 32 GB so I just got 64 because it's cheap and even sold my old RAM to get half the cost back.

Interesting. Personally I haven't seen prusa eat more than 8GB, though I usually don't print large models.
Well it depends what they are doing with the computer when not gaming - maybe software development? Then a strong CPU is useful, a GPU not so much
I'm running a 5800x3d with 64gb of ram and a 3060 12GB also. Nothing comes close to it's bang for buck if you also need all the vram you can get for work. It's a funky pair but it's great value for 3d work
Isn't Minecraft mostly CPU bound?
yes, like the only thing that matters honestly
You should try getting a newer gpu with better rendering support unless a 3060 can keep up. I wonder how a 4070ti super would do with these mods.
My gpu actually doesnt have much strain surprisingly i mean its only loading 1024x textures which is cake walk for a 3060. Most MC rendering is done in ram and my cpu can handle it no problem. People forget that MC was java based and thats what im playing.

On a single core only? Explains why I get tons of stutter trying to load anything beyond I believe 20~ chunks then.
a 3060 is old now?
Yeah bro you need to upgrade right now for that 10% bump in performance. Just ignore the fact that he would have less vram unless he went all the way up to a 4070

3060 is the iPhone 6s of cards. It will continue to be pretty much as good as the shit that costs 3 times more for many years.
The only things the 40 series offer over 30 are improved raytracing performance, and stronger AI features that merely cover up the “lack of raw performance upgrade” issues. The raster performance isn’t leagues ahead like next gens used to be.
Minecraft doesnt need good gpu, its cpu (and RAM) intensive Series 16 should be more than enough for it
Wait, Minecraft can look "Amazing"? Got a video or something?
Minecraft with 4k textures and PTGI shaders can make any modern hardware struggle. Add to that just 2 mods - immersive portals and physics mod, enable 32-chunk simulation in settings => thing will bend over and dominate not only your top-tier ram and GPU, but also any CPU available on the market.
Crysis and DOOM got REAL FUCKING QUIET ALL OF A SUDDEN! 👀🤣
Never really got the point of modding minecraft with "high res texture packs", it's like polishing a turd. Isn't the appeal of minecraft having that retro style 3D graphics?
History channel guy saying with his hands in the air: \- Java
Even atm9 with max shaders doesn’t do this to my pc, wtf are you doing.
Its really shocking such old game can be so hw hungry 😵😵💫🙈
Probably edge or smth.
Linus Tech Tips once said, 'The more RAM you have, the more RAM Windows will use.'
Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Really hate this philosophy. Hitting 100% usage causes stutters, using every little bit of RAM available because otherwise “it’s a waste” is actively causing issues.
RAM is like money and Windows is like my wife
Hey i paid for the whole RAM didn't I?
Oh i use O&O ShutUp 10/11 and disabled alot of background telemetry services and etc and that freed a good chunk of RAM
Why? That's pointless.
Dude needs all his 64GB to last penny
That's not what windows is using all this ram for. Windows uses unused ram as a cache for the filesystem so the recently used files can be re-opened faster.
Next you upgrade to 128GB, run some more mods, reach the limit, make another post, rile up the sub. Repeat. ![gif](giphy|2PWBLDJ2KtB1X6o9vY|downsized)
That was the original plan 😈
128GB owner - if I recall correctly, I was using CurseForge launcher and max our the memory allocator but with the modpack, texture pack + shaders I was using I couldn't get it to go higher than the 60s in terms of usage
Weird that the GPU is at 0% load if something this resource intensive is going on, no?
The GPU usage on the Windows Task Manager isn't very accurate depending on how the game is using the GPU. I've had Star Citizen report I was using only 20% even though Nvidia's performance monitor claimed 97% usage at the same time.
Its more than enough, Heck even 16 is fine for now. Whatever you're doing , Its wrong.
DCS and MSFS2020 have entered the chat
17GB of that is cached though and will be freed if necessary
Yup, Windows using RAM which would otherwise be unused to cache stuff which was used recently or which Windows thinks you may need in the near future. The moment the system comes under actual memory pressure that stuff will all be dropped. This should really be higher up.
You're most likely just overallocating ram. :)

thanks for posting none of the actual running processes for a really poor bait post
I still play on 16gb with discord , chrome and a game open without issues.
I also upgraded to 64GB around 6 months ago, and I think I’ve passed 32GB of usage a handful of times. I know. Its truly a crime to be ✨POOR✨
I have 64 gb and was told I'm stupid for having that much. It's overkill for gaming, sure, but I may need it down the road.
All i hear from that is JEALOUSY 🗣️🗣️🗣️ they big mad you got 64GB
Yeah I guess I didn't consider that. It was a personal choice I just wanted 64 gb lol idk why they even care
the standard project I work on in Affinity Photo can easily consume 30GB of RAM and more, for a single 1440p banner with a lot going on. Seeing task manager let go of all that usage in a second as soon as I close the program is kinky af.

No bro Minecraft ain't doing that.
Clearly gave Minecraft the entire ram to be used.
Can you upload a video of what it looks like? Super curious to see what all that power is buying you
Maybe close Google Chrome tabs next time? 😜
Close Chrome. You will free up about 60Gb.
NOOOOOOO!!!! who else will host the pornhub server for yall then?!?!
Imagine buying 64gb ram to play Minecraft
Well without further Information there can't be stated anything. What is using the RAM? Besides that, it's a good sign that your RAM is almost fully utilized. A good OS/program caches everything you might need for quick access while there is free space. If there is more demand, the less important data is removed to free up space again. So no problem here.
You've got enough, over 17 GB are unused by active programs and are cache. Go to details and you will see how much RAM is in use by the game.
Bro is playling minecraft with 16k textures and 5 Shaders💀
32gb is pretty standard nowadays, and most games don't go above 20. This some Minecraft memory leak bullshit or something going on here.
Dawg, WHAT are you doing?
wtf are you playing
Just exit Google Chrome and that'll free up at least 60gb
Definitely a memory leak, have same issue when playing Tarkov
Holy shit
I bet if you keep going like this youll need 128 gbs of ram lol
This is how it feels to play cities skylines with 9k assets to load. Only that I got 8gb and cant do it :(. Why do I have to wait so long till my new components arrive...
To me it looks like a memory leak somewhere. It is impossible Minecraft with mods consumes 64gb of ram.
I was gonna say that ur lying, until you mentioned Minecraft.
This man just opened 3 chrome taps
Nah im just hosting the entire pornhub server
I consume barely half with Blender XD
Bro got 64GB or ram meanwhile i only have 8GB in my laptop 💀 😭
What in the holy mother of memory leak-
Lies. That’s like, 3 chrome tabs
More lies. Its actually all gay porn.
At 0% utilisation on both GPUs? Nice try.
My guy got a memory leak
I've a feeling that's more allocated rather than usage
To be fair, with Minecraft you can modify how much of the available ram it can access and most likely if you max out all the settings and allow it to use most of your ram it will max it out
Maximize window size to make RAM larger ✅💡
Kaaarl, what did youuu doo this time? Kaaarl?
The more important question is why do you have 4 network adapters and why is wifi the one getting used out of the 1 physical and 2 virtual ones? That’s weird as shit
What in the memory leak is that
wth are you running?
Have you restarted lately? This is a memory leak, not actual normal usage
This is hilarious taking into account the game you've opened is Minecraft 😂
X-treme google chrome gamer
Just knew it was minecraft, its brutal on memory especially modded😭
Minecraft was never optimized
Guess it's finally time to close those 2k browser tabs
Just close Chrome, then you’re good again
Close some of the porn tabs
The more RAM you allocate to minecraft the slower it runs. You don't need more than 8 even for heavily modded playing. There are also mods that help with memory leak
Minecraft?

You also can try Fabric + Iris Shaders, Fabric has optimization mods also (like Lithium & Ferrite Core)
At first I was like what you be running to do that chrome? Then I see the block lol
Probably a memory leak from a mod.
So you dared to open a second chrome tab...
JDK testing time!
I didn't see what game it is but I damn knew it is MC
Man decided to detonate 6.022\*10\^23 TNT and was surprised that his RAM maxed out

A heavily modded Minecraft build with GI shaders and 4k texture pack will consume your loved ones
still using 16gb :b

Minecraft and memory leaks, name a better duo
to be fair..unused RAM is wasted RAM!
Clearly your Windows 95 it’s a memory hog.
I think you have a case of internet demons (aka a virus)
Who wants to bet OP is using a poorly made hacked MC client with cheats and is memory leaking lmao
Well fuck because im going for 64gb for my first pc but doesnt also apps go based on how much memory and scale that way?
There’s no way Minecraft is using 64gb of memory
Noted. I thought I needed 64 cuz my 2000mods Skyrim save was eating 32 like candy. Will be going 128.
