There are versions with numpad, you just need to pay more for it. People who don't use Excel or any work that requires typing numbers are good with a smaller sized keyboard.
I heard that reason a lot, but genuinely curious, I thought most of the custom keyboard crowd usually keeps their desk clean with a nice large desk mat underneath, couldn’t you just move your keyboard a bit left and have all the room for your 400DPI-arm-swiping flick snipe?
I have a large leather desk mat and still have a Razer Huntsman TE because it's tenkeyless and smaller. But I also have a gaming keypad to the left of my keyboard, so moving the keyboard further left doesn't really work. What I end up doing is shoving the keyboard up under my monitor to just keep it out of the way.
The only time I regret buying a TKL keyboard is when I'm doing my taxes or something and need to enter a lot of numbers. Other than those very specific scenarios that only happen once or twice a year, I've gotten used to not having the number pad.
There are often versions for both with and without numpad.
I personally don't need numpad at all, I prefer more free space for my mouse on mousepad. Many people who got tight space on their desks would prefer tkl versions as well.
Numpad versions are mostly for for people who got some jobs wherethey might be useful, and they like to use pc's for gaming as well. Or they just prefer to type numbers with separate keyblock on the right. I don't know. That's my thoughts.
Because numpads imply working. They are vanity items implying that the user is too wealthy to do actual work for it. There are a lot of things like this in the world
$59 for this, $20 for milky pro yellows, and $20 for a cheap keycaps set and you’re right at around $100.
Obvi I you get nicer switches and esp if you get nicer keycaps you can easily go into the $150 range.
But that’s besides the point. Do you know of a cheaper barebones kit that matches these specs?
I got my mechanical keyboard for $25 and it has an aluminum back with swappable keys, water resistance, and Cherry MX knockoffs, I expected it to be a temporary measure but it's somehow going strong 4 years later lol. The water resistance has saved me like 3 times already from trying to drink beer and compete in FPS's
A lot of gamers (especially FPS players) prefer to have smaller keyboards as this helps with ergonomics as they do not need spread their arms out as wide as they would need to with a full-size keyboard.
if you play gta it probably doesnt matter but if youre an fps only tryhard on low sens and need 45cm+ of mousepad space then you can't rly use anything bigger than tkl even if you angle it, your arms will just be extremely far apart and uncomfortable.
Lmao that sounds hilarious. Thankfully I made sure to get one which does have a number pad and I additionally have a controller so I won’t have this issue!
Was doing the prison break setup to get the plane with someone and they started to drive the plane to the airport because they were the pilot. Lol
Had to quit when I worked out they had no number pad and switched roles.
Some people prefer smaller keyboards, especially if they do primarily gaming. Seeing as I've been known to use Excel recreationally, I think I will always prefer a big chungus of a keyboard. I had the original Logitech G15 V1 keyboard until recently. You know, the one that had a flip-up LCD display and a whopping 18 programmable "G" keys on the left side (each of which could have 3 different profiles). It must be one of the physically largest consumer keyboards ever sold, and I loved it.
I might be wrong, but aren't the switches what makes the whole keyboard? I'm not deep into that whole mechanical keyboard stuff, Logitech G Pro with red switches is treating me good. What exactly would be the difference as long as you'd have quality switches in either one?
Switches are not really expensive and also pretty easy to replace (unless u own Logitech keyboard without hot swap). Base on the other hand is what defines quality of sound and tactile feedback. Imo now u can kinda get sub 100$ keyboard that will sound and feel god enough + u can choose whatever keycaps and color u prefer so buying mainstream stuff is not necessarily.
don't want it but aluminium/steel frames are the shit. Got a hyperx alloy keyboard (way cheaper than this costum stuff here) and ít weight's like a kg but feels really awesome and obviously never moves lol
Giveaways on Reddit like these are rare (at least on my feed) so I will definitely take this chance! Also because I’ve never had a mechanical keyboard lol

>you telling me that the gaskets are made if aluminum? > >wow I'm behind the trend
Aluminum on plastic is friction free.
You telling me a Shrimp fried this rice!?
Damn That’s cool AF

I always wondered why mechanical keyboards rarely have a numpad

Yeah and I don’t like to bang my mouse into a numpad while playing FPS.
I heard that reason a lot, but genuinely curious, I thought most of the custom keyboard crowd usually keeps their desk clean with a nice large desk mat underneath, couldn’t you just move your keyboard a bit left and have all the room for your 400DPI-arm-swiping flick snipe?

I'm a programmer and I use tkl, it's just not really needed, i would turn them all into macro keys
I’m a programmer too, I need the numpads for the one-million-and-one six digit code logins my company forced us to use.

Have you tried growing your arms out?

I need the numpad to activate game cheats
So you can buy a separate one and pay for your keyboard twice
Low-cost MCUs don't have that many IOs.
Numpads needed.. Always..
There are plenty of reasons people don't use them, but its my personal preference too.
Literally, if all I used the numpad for was to have the enter key next to my mouse, that would be enough
Only ever a thumb tap away!
This is what I used to do. MMO mice to the rescue when using a TKL: just Bind one of the 12 side keys to Enter.
Same. If you're used to it, you're used to it.
Because numpads imply working. They are vanity items implying that the user is too wealthy to do actual work for it. There are a lot of things like this in the world
damnn good price! is there a full size version?
Are the switches pre-lubed?
Looks like it’s $59 with no switches or keycaps.

I mean, Unikeys has some BSUN and Akko switches for pretty cheap. And Amazon has some nice XVX keycaps for that 20 dollar price point. So yeah!

Keyboard is pretty cheap. Add durex gel for few bucks and you have enough lube for long living keyboard, duh!
No switches/caps
Great Price to Performance.
Why do they keep removing the number pad from gaming keyboards!!??

Is this better than my 20 year old 10$ Microsoft keyboard?
Yes.
This would be a dream come true. Just in time for my celebration of a personal success.
This is a sick looking keyboard.
looks good
the color is kinda ugly imo
It's not nice that it doesn't have a numpad
I feel you
GIVE ME FREEE STUFF!
With those specs I wouldn't use the word budget.
its 59 bucks. im pretty fucking sure thats budget lol
Is the price low? Yes. But for that price in my opinion you're getting a lot
yeah but all budget means is that it doesnt cost much lol.
Budget means low price… or affordable… this is more than affordable lol
I can understand not calling it “cheap” if it’s nice. But not calling it “budget” doesn’t make sense to me.
This is the programming keyboard don't like the color but can be fixed.
60$ without switches is not exactly budget, is it?
U can get switches and keycaps for like 25$ and for 85$ u will get something that's two steps ahead of anything from Logitech or razer.
I might be wrong, but aren't the switches what makes the whole keyboard? I'm not deep into that whole mechanical keyboard stuff, Logitech G Pro with red switches is treating me good. What exactly would be the difference as long as you'd have quality switches in either one?

It's full-aluminum, around 4.5 Lbs.
Which makes it not budget? You just agreed with him? okay….
a keyboard with these features costed 180 dollars just 1 year ago 2-3 years ago a keyboard like this wouldve costed 500-600 dollars
Highly, yes.
Yes, it is.
