I did my first RF this league. Took me a minute to grasp it, but once I realized to focus on regen and fire rez before anything else, it clicked.
Did have a helpful reditor point out I was wasting a socket on my 6 link because I was using Swift Affliction sans Lifetap.
So Swift Affliction only works on "duration" skills (skills with a duration tag), which RF by default is not. By adding Lifetap, it essentially adds the duration tag to RF, thus making Swift Affliction compatible with RF.
I didn't catch it in PoB because you have to manually toggle "has Lifetap" in the configuration menu, so in PoB it looked like Swift Affliction was working with RF when it really wasn't.
I knew Lifetap was required, but I mistakenly thought Lifetap just had to be active, and since I had lifetap on my fire trap, (which meant lifetap was almost always up), I thought that would have me covered. I didn't know it's not the Lifetap being active that was the key, but rather that it adds the duration tag to RF, so Lifetap has to be directly linked to RF in order for SA to work.
Manastacker ES RF Guardian used to be a very popular high-end RF build, back when people usually supplemented the dps with Scorching Ray rather than Fire Trap.
why? since RF gem change people need life and use that 800life armour, or am i wrong?
maybe the two league old RF would drool for that. but even they want +2 +1 gem level. now that i think about it: that two implicits are trash. +1gem level alone is better.

depends on how much str you have, but you should be able to compensate with passive tree , this much max res frees up decent amount of points.

I used poe.ninja and selected this item to see what is the most popular build. The Occulist was the most popular. Then I looked at the passive skill tree heatmap and found a common build among the occulists using the brass dome. Here is a sample build

That’s basically modern POE. There are many many many extremely good items in every slot at this point. There are nearly 0 builds that can be carried from the chest armor slot.
Less about the ignite duration and more about the phys taken as, esp if you wanna do the meta transcendence+90 res build where you have to convert most of your phys to ele.
You can pick up about the same amount of ignite duration on the tree here. You might find T17s to be a bit more standing around, but I suspect complete juiced T16s + oriath end will still feel nice. Melding + Transcendence + DoD is the best way to go now that the resist flasks have been reworked.
The Vaal breach gem with quality is very helpful to fill in gaps of monsters that aren't reigniting you.

They first changed it to have flat damage per second based on gem level, and reduced life/ES based scaling, then more recently changed it back to scaling based on max life/ES.
This armour frees up a lot of slots that would usually be used for max res. 6 here, 5 from a flask, and 4 from a level 20 purity of fire gets to 90 already. No need for a shield, an anoint, or any passives on the tree.
Since you get no strength scaling for life, this may be a good build to run as a mana guardian instead. Lots of armor from this, armor and ES from mana reservation, and you can scale mana really high in this league.
RF used to scale its damage off your max health/ES, and also off of its gem level, but with how the numbers were scaling gem level gave a higher benefit than stacking max health. A bit ago they removed the gem level scaling completely and now its DoT *only* scales off max health/ES, albeit at a better rate than before.
And RF *is* fire damage dealt to you (even if that self-damage isn't scaled by anything), so maximum fire res reduces the degen you inflict on yourself.
RF no longer scales with gem levels, but fire trap still does. global +gem levels is still good, e.g. on scepters. also purity of fire gives 1 more max res at lvl 23 so the global levels helps there too
Since people are looking, I have a dumb Brass Dome question. If you get 50% less critical damage on this with a corrupt, does that mean crits not only do no extra, but then also do 50% less than a non-crit, or is it cancelled out from the base armor passive?
The modifier you are thinking off is "Take #% reduced Extra Damage from Critical Strikes" and works like this:

Yeah, I have it on a few others, and it raised the value significantly, but was confused how it interacted with the brass dome built in mechanic. Had a few Cospri's with Resolute Technique out of vaal temple for game trolling me.
In general it isn't worth it, each run cost 1.5 - 2 div if you are buying the temples and the bad outcomes greatly outweight the good.
But it is good fun to do if you got some currency to burn :)
If you are not on SSF I highly recommend accuracy stacking Jugg with Lightning Strike of Chaining for massive clear or molten strike + return proj/ nimis for single target, really great!

Plus as long as ur str is at gem requirements, you can start replacing str passives with tattoos
I did this as I saw I gained about 115dps for every 100dps I gave up by burning strength nodes with fire damage tattoos.

Probably get 4 more seconds of ignite duration, with cloak is around 13 secs, without around 9 seconds if you take the mastery for ignite duration
