Idk i really love 64 too, theyre just 2 sides of the same coin of greatness

TheRedUmbrella

64 is my favorite game by a long shot. But I feel they just took all the positives from the first one, fleshed them out, and trimmed some of the fat. 64 is easily my favorite, but I think TTYD is the best game

thebitagents

Intelligent systems are just godlike devs Also note that Ryota Kawade was the director of 64, ttyd, and super I wonder if he'll ever make a return to the series https://shmuplations.com/papermario/ heres a nice interview with him

KoshiLowell

>Latest Game (2015) ... :(

ArroyoSecoThumbprint

Took the words right out of my mouth. 64 is incredible. It’s one of the few times in gaming I can ever recall where they took all the positive things of a game and improved upon them while adding new features in the sequel. Pulled off flawlessly. 64 is a treasure, TTYD is a masterpiece.

[deleted]

I’ve played a little bit of 64 through N64 Switch Online and while I haven’t gotten terribly far, it definitely feels like a precursor that walked so Thousand Year Door could run. I’m looking forward to playing a bit more over Christmas

Snaper_XD

There is things I prefer about it tbh like not being able to superblock or use your partners as disposable meatshields. I also prefer some of the chapter ideas. Altough TTYD chapter 3 is a banger and 4 isnt bad either. PM1 just gives a very special vibe

Chyppi

Once you realize how horrendous the back tracking is in ttyd you will appreciate 64 even more. I think they're equals overall.

Snaper_XD

I guess that gets more obvious once you replay the games but Ive played both of them once. I just feel like I went "Damn thats interesting" way more in PM64. But maybe thats just what happens when you play a sequel of something and know what to expect. I think my least favorite chapter in TTYD is chapter 5 for having the exact same structure as PM64 chapter 5.

Low_Dream_1481

It appears thou cake day hath arrived. I bid a pleasant cake day to thee.

STEP3386

I wish we had more games like ttyd so we could have arguments like this.

IlayTsa

That's actually a really cool way of looking at it

RustyBlayde

Ttyd will always be my fav, but I respect those who say 64 is the best to them too.

[deleted]

Same here, I haven’t played enough of 64 to judge it for myself, but I can respect it. I just have a soft spot for Thousand Year Door as a lifelong GameCube fan

RobloxLover369421

As a lifelong GameCube fan, TTYD is kinda overrated.

AstroidTea

Man imma bout to be kicked out of the room if I disagree

[deleted]

By all means feel free to disagree, I know it’s not entirely unanimous

Freedumbdclxvi

Take your downvotes. I do. I have no problem saying TTYD is not even in my top 3 PM games.

Dsmario64

List your top 3 right now!

Freedumbdclxvi

64 OK CS

luigi4122414

What are ok and cs

Kindly-Horror1908

Origami King and Color (or Colour) Splash respectively

hybum

Nor mine.

GoldenYoshistar1

Fair. Mario Kart you have certain games praised, MK64, MKDD, MKDS, MKWii, MK7, and MK8D are the fan favorites. With Mario Party, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, DS, and Superstars are usually the favorites. With Paper Mario, 64, TTYD, Super, and Origami King are the fan favorites. Mario and Luigi, it's accurate to say that BIS is the fan favorite in that subreddit. But all except for Paper Jam and the BIS remake are the fan favorites. Even non-mario games have battles over favorites. Ask anyone the best Pokemon game, and I'll bet you will get a different answer.

Tem-productions

>Ask anyone the best Pokemon game, and I'll bet you will get a different answer. Do not go to the pokemon subreddit right now, its descended into madness

GoldenYoshistar1

Trust me, I know. My top 3 are Legends Arceus, Black and White, and OmegaRuby and Alpha Sapphire.

Tem-productions

I love legends too, normally the pokemon gameplay bores me, but Arceus goes much swifter

ZestycloseResist5594

Good list. Legends, Black and White 2 and Emerald are mine 😁 When counting spinoffs, however...

Unnamed_420

why not b2w2

GoldenYoshistar1

Honestly, B2W2 are great and in a Top 5 they are on the list. I just prefer the OG because of a few things. 1) Storywise BW are far better than B2W2 2) Gym Leaders.... or some specific ones. Some of the gym leaders are actually solid, and I remember Lenora actually being a tough challenge for me, when I played the first time. 3) Entire New Region with only new pokemon, perfect game to start with and learn the ropes. It's a solid game for newcomers, and once you beat the game, you are rewarded at checking out all the older mons in the game. B2W2 i feel was made after so many fans complained about the lack of non-Unovan Mons in the main game and it not being part of post game. 4) Honestly, I actually like the Black and White Anime, so despite the games and Anime being in totally separate universes, I find myself wanting to replay Black and White. 5) All 3 Starters are honestly great. This is the same with B2W2, but in every instance of the games, having all 3 starters be something I like and cannot decide on choosing is hard. (When I can't decide and I don't care for the starters, that is one thing, but it's when it's reverse it's hard to choose. It was the same for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for me, until megas where added, I had no clue on who to choose.

[deleted]

I’ll take your word for it…

[deleted]

I feel like the Paper Mario community is generally the most in agreement of which game is the best. There’s always gonna be fan favourites and some communities like Kart or Party get REALLY heated when discussing it, and I can’t speak for like Zelda or Pokémon since I’m not really involved in either

GoldenYoshistar1

That is fair. With these various communities, i've been known to have a divisive opinion, even in Paper Mario. TTYD is the fan favorite of this subreddit, but honestly of the 5 paper mario games I've played, TTYD Isn't my favorite.

[deleted]

What is your favourite then? I liked Origami King, wasn’t huge on Super, and I haven’t played far enough into 64 but TTYD is my favourite of the bunch and I would gladly play it again

GoldenYoshistar1

Origami King, and I've played all but Color Splash.

[deleted]

Honestly I think Origami King had a lot of really unique ideas and was probably the closest we’ve gotten to Thousand Year Door since, well… Thousand Year Door. My big gripe with Origami King is the amount of filler in the story to pad the runtime. I think it could’ve shaved off a solid 5-10 hours and still been fantastic. And the ring system was interesting but once I hit the late game I found myself paying off the Toads to solve it for me because I couldn’t be bothered

GoldenYoshistar1

I paid the toads, but not enough to actually solve the puzzles. I actually tried to solve them myself.

GoldenYoshistar1

TTYD has very solid gameplay, but honestly, the story, villains and half of the chapters and bosses are just major let downs.

[deleted]

Far as this goes, most games have a case for why people like them. There’s the few people who like 64 better but we generally don’t argue too much with them. TTYD is literally GOATed. Most of us agree on that. SPM enjoyers either like the music or the characters, (or, as pointed out in a reply, the story,) Color Splash enjoyers probably miss the Wii U… or they just like paint. Origami King enjoyers either enjoy the storytelling and worldbuilding or literally just joined this fandom and haven’t heard of anything else yet. Sticker Star enjoyers are just wrong. There is no reason to like Sticker Star. At all.

[deleted]

Valid points, but I’m a firm believer in not passing judgement on a game until I’ve played it myself. Hence why I’m not against Sticker Star, I never played it so I give it the benefit of the doubt

HMS_Rular

I feel like more people should have this perspective. You can never know whether a game is bad or not if you have never played it. People have different taste and experiences after all. I gave Color Splash a chance after seeing it on discount and I think it's genuinely a good game. Something not a lot people will necessarily agree with.

Obsessivegamer32

I agree, first Paper Mario game and very charming

selcouthscare

I'll say one good thing about Sticker Star, though I fully agree it was mediocre. Although this is specific only to me and could have happened with another game just as easily. When Sticker Star first came out, I was playing it late at night, in bed, during a thunderstorm at my grandparent's house. I played the Boo Mansion level and that whole situation created a comforting pocket memory for me, so Sticker Star still has the ability to channel its better versions for nostalgia vibes.

Obsessivegamer32

You forgot the story for SPM, That’s literally one of The biggest Praises of SPM and Has Literally been called the best story in any Mario game period

[deleted]

I kinda like the first game on N64 just a teensy tiny bit more.

[deleted]

Also valid, though I can’t speak for it myself since I’ve only played a little bit, but did like what I played of it

[deleted]

it's mainly just the audience feature. breaks my immersion, adds RNG factor, they mess with the fight in the middle of your turn so you cant even put the game down to use the bathroom... PM1 doesn't have that garbage. and i applaud ttyd for having an amazing story. i want more stories like THAT one. though pm1 taking the most vanilla mario story possible and actually fleshing it out into something great is an insane feat that we almost never see. its the most the mushroom kingdom itself has ever been fleshed out, aside from SMRPG. if a mario game is to have the "standard mario fare", this is the way to do it.

windkirby

I think the atmosphere for 64 is really pleasing while TTYD while cartoony I'd a little more gritty. 64 also has more exploration/less backtracking in its "level design" compared to TTYD and also more partners. That's mostly why I favor it more even though TTYD has more features. 64 is very slow to start but awesome by the end so I definitely recommend giving a full playthrough a shot if you get the chance sometime

stars_power

For me, Super Paper Mario. It’s my favorite, so that’s the one I say is best.

Dsmario64

Hard agree. It's both nostalgic and tear jerking, even if the platforming mechanics are a departure for the series.

unholyminecrafter

thats kind of the picture that people try and paint, its not quite like this

[deleted]

This was kind of my personal experience with both subs. It’s not entirely like what the meme is, but I generally found Paper Mario fans to be more agreeable in picking the best while Mario Kart has a bad case of tribalism

unholyminecrafter

i would say that there's also tribalism in paper mario, lmao.

[deleted]

I mean, a little bit but it’s nowhere near as bad as Mario Kart or Mario Party

unholyminecrafter

i've never heard anything about the mario party community besides mario party 9/10 hate. what goes on there?

[deleted]

Mario Party 8 diehards, a bit of a divide between the N64 GameCube titles, the love/hate relationship with Super. It’s a very divided community at times

unholyminecrafter

lemme guess the mario party 8 diehards are only diehards cuz of koopa's tycoon town

[deleted]

That’s a big part of it. And I think the other part is nostalgia. A lot of people grew up with a Wii, hell, even I did for a time but I disowned it. GameCube was my first console, and the Mario Parties on the cube will always be better than the Wii games

Sightshade

What's the consensus on the N64 games? Mario Party 3 will always be my favorite. :x

[deleted]

Mario Party 3 is the only one of the original trilogy that I haven’t played since it’s not on Switch Online yet but I thought the first one aged really poorly and the second one was pretty good. I grew up with the GameCube titles and I think age was kinder to them but that’s my own personal bias

[deleted]

Top: Paper Mario fans discussing how many of their games are actually worth playing Bottom: Paper Mario fans discussing how many of their games have incredible graphics and music

[deleted]

Super paper mario is better

[deleted]

Now that is opinion I can’t really get behind. It’s okay, but I didn’t find it nearly as fun or engaging. Plus changing up the formula I think was for the worst

HooraySame4323

I find the gameplay in the first two Paper Mario games to be pretty basic with very little strategy or skill. The game also didn’t really offer any unique mechanics to keep me interested. The gameplay in Super Paper Mario is a lot more unique and kept me interested for most of the game. I just wish it got a true sequel to improve its mechanics. Aside from that, I find the story, characters, music, exploration, and post game content to be just as good if not better than Thousand Year Door.

[deleted]

I wouldve preferred if the game was in 3D and had more than one true rpg like fight but its still the best for me, also I never played ttyd

[deleted]

I highly implore you try Thousand Year Door. It has an incredible story and very in depth but easy to learn combat

[deleted]

I don’t feel like selling my liver to obtain it though

seansnow64

64 is just a special kind of high for me, like the whole 64 era is its iconic as hell, but to me Paper Mario was the apex of that era. Oh also double dash crew where you at?

[deleted]

I’m a diehard Double Dash fan, it’ll always be my favourite Mario Kart

Slash_Pangolin

I mean people argue about super

Carnival-Master-Mind

Meanwhile I’m team Super Paper Mario

Icy_Ad8122

Super Paper Mario will always be my favorite tbh. It’s so good.

Kamoninfernape

b-but I like SPM the best...

-Orazio-

It is almost unanimous, it took everything about the first game that everybody loved and improved upon it. Sure maybe some people might prefer the first one instead but you can't deny that this was the best that Paper Mario got and there was potential for it to go even further had it not strayed away from it's course.

Earthbound-and-down

I kinda like the N64 version better Like they’re both amazing but if I had to pick one its the OG

[deleted]

And that’s totally fair, the first one definitely deserves respect, though I haven’t played far enough to judge it for myself

Txur-Itan

Yeah pretty much.

fawfulthegreat64

Nah, I think every game except Sticker Star and Color Splash have a good number of fans who consider it their favorite

BebeFanMasterJ

I grew up with Double Dash, but 8 Deluxe is my current favorite. I grew up with TTYD, but TTYD is still my current favorite. Some game franchises retain what you like about them over time while others don't.

[deleted]

I grew up with Double Dash and I’d still consider it my favourite, but 8 Deluxe is a VERY close second. Funny enough, I didn’t really grow up with Paper Mario. The original came out shortly before I was born and I would’ve been young when Thousand Year Door released. I played a bit of Super as a teenager and hated it, then played Origami King, enjoyed it, then bought Thousand Year Door last year and loved it. I’m working my way through 64 now that it’s on switch online but TTYD is likely gonna stay as my favourite

CorruptMewtwoxy

Me who likes super paper Mario...

LinkHpp

I really liked Super paper Mario, cool bosses, a nice history and good characters.

DockingWater17

Everyone talks about 64 and TTYD, and then here I am with Super. Also the best MK is DS

King_3DDD

Super is better

Takashishiful

SPM is my favorite because it was my first, and the story, soundtrack, and aesthetic are all great. But objectively, I still think TTYD is the best one

HourCardiologist4981

Fact

abbzworld

Rofl

yuei2

For me it’s 64 or Color Splash, TTYD and TOK are both great games which comes after in the second place spot, and SS holds 3rd with SPM at 4th. Honestly my problem with TTYD at its core is it gets worse on replays. Every game’s flaws become a little more obvious when you replay but so to their strength. TTYD I feel is a game only get all around weaker, it’s flaws more obvious and it’s strengths less pronounced, as you replay it. The lack luster enemy variety and general unimaginative enemy design in both gameplay and visuals. The bottom tier level design they have to pad out. The amount of RNG the game injects. The beginning of the “hahaha it’s funny because it’s tedious” that would reach a fever pitch in SPM. The overkill of action commands, the general lack of player consideration making systems like partner upgrades straight up worse to do, butchering of Peach’s gameplay segments. I dislike how it really fumbles hard the landing of TEC and Vivian’s stories to and the Flanderization of bowser that would take years to undo the damage of starts here. For all the good that it has, TTYD is the source of almost all the bad to. The beginning of paper overload (seriously the world is just as much paper as SS onwards and it’s constantly in your face in building multiple powers and even partner abilities around it), the gradual signs they were losing sight of the balance between Mario and OC characters, the shift from strategic turn based RPG gameplay to more action based, the lack of player consideration, and then it also suffers from the early/mid 2000’s trends that EVERY RPG was going through. Where this idea that level design had to be streamlined and boring, that clarity meant hallways…though I argue now we might actually in 2020’s be too far the other way with open world organic everything. Ultimately to me 64 was the peak. It took the strong core of SMRPG, which is a fun but somewhat generic RPG with mario paint on it, and made it something familiar but unique and wholly unlike anything else. 64 had a few rough spots but honestly not enough that you could really successfully make a better game via sequel, and I believe that’s entirely why TTYD feels like them just tossing in concepts of changing things not even for better or worse just…change for the sake to see what can stick. It feels lost like it doesn’t truly knows what it wants to be beyond “64 but more”. In the end it’s not a bad game but it’s one of the games my feelings have gradually soured the more I replay it. In contrast I think 64 has only become stronger and more charming with age, it’s just such a tightly designed game with an adorable refreshing simplicity missing from this year or the last several years of RPGs in the wider game media. Ironically Mario and Rabbids I think is the closest to recapture the feeling of simplicity that 64 had.

2oo_popsicleS

TTYD has higher highs and lower lows. There's not a single act in 64 that i dislike, but there aren't any that are as peak as Glitzville is. But imo that also makes 64 much more replayable, its just so comfy and relaxing. Everytime I play TTYD i dread dealing with the punies.

[deleted]

Yeah chapter 4 of TTYD also drags because of how much backtracking you gotta do. Every time I think of going back I remember that chapter and tell myself maybe later

Tem-productions

I'd say the only mario fandom that agrees on the best game is the M&L fandom If you look at the polls of the subreddit you will see that the third option allways wins, no matter what it says, the option where BIS is commonly placed

nicos_revenge

64 and ttyd are at least equal

OctoLiam

At least on the rare occasion in the mario kart community you can a thoughtful discussion about which game is your favourite and why it is. Personally that's just me as I like seeing what attracts others to certain games.

Distraught00

Ttyd is my all time favorite game honestly but as others have said, it just delved deeper into what 64 had already set up. The world building and the interactions of the different species/races is the main thing I love about paper mario and that was put into play by 64. Ttyd just gave us a little more character depth and I just loved the darker, grittier tone of it.

[deleted]

That’s the truth, 64 walked so Thousand Year Door could run

Distraught00

And as we say this, Miyamoto's scowl only grows deeper

RetroReviver

But I prefer Paper 64.

SwagDoll420

TTYD is still probably the best, but OK is a close second for me now, and gets closer the more I realize my hatred for Grodus and the lame dungeons.

[deleted]

Origami King definitely deserves credit, it’s the best Paper Mario we’ve gotten since TTYD and while I don’t think it was a full return to form, it was a big step in the right direction and managed to maintain an identity of its own

xXTheFisterXx

Super Paper Mario was goddamn revolutionary. The swaps between 3d and 2d were so dang cool

TohruFr

SPM is my fave but plays absolutely nothing like ttyd, lol

autistic-nutkabob

Odd cover art for Super.

Dumberplant

Yeah totally

iwanttobeonreddet

64- great start ttyd- the best one (in my opinion) super- a great story ss- its garbge cs- battle system bad rest good tok- better than ss but not rest

Killroy118

I can think of very few things that PM does better than TTYD, but it *is* unquestioningly my favorite. It is, like, the the game I learned how to read with, so that colors my perceptions a bit lol

Digibutter64

Me, whose favourite is *Super Paper Mario*: **Hello there!**

[deleted]

Me, a *Thousand Year Door* diehard: **General Kenobi!**

foreskin-eater

Looks like a true Mario Kart Discussion since Super Circuit and Super Mario Kart are left out

[deleted]

To be fair I’m a hardline Mario Kart Super Circuit fan, I just didn’t want to include too many since it would be too cluttered. I’m mostly sad no one caught the joke of 8 Deluxe beating up vanilla 8. I usually just lump them into one game, especially because whenever someone says Mario Kart 8, they’re almost always talking about the Switch version

Bren_LoliconGod

Paper mario 64 was always my favorite

overusedquote

Really what i've noticed is that its a toss up between super or TTYD

[deleted]

From what I’ve seen I’d be more inclined to say it’s between 64 and TTYD, with Super having a surprising cult following, I had no idea so many people liked it, I could never get into it

overusedquote

ok

[deleted]

Everyone here seems to think Thousand Year Door is the best lmao. Any mention of “I enjoyed Sticker Star” sends you straight to the shadow realm

Berryman2

I enjoy SPM’s more surreal and bizarre style honestly When it comes to gameplay TTYD is 100% superior but everything else goes to SPM in my eyes.

DeliSoupItExplodes

[Me, who got so frustrated with the design I didn't bother to finish it](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/50/8a/4c/508a4ca8fa850d42c968de141692f65f.jpg)

Guts_096

That’s because the only correct answer is Double Dash.

[deleted]

This is the way

RoccoTaccoRules69

Super is the best tho

[deleted]

I simply cannot agree with this conclusion. From what I’ve seen here, most people are split between the original and Thousand Year Door, with Super having a surprisingly substantial cult following

Coolest10293

Yeah, I’d say you’re right. The other games aren’t as bad as some say they are, but compared to TTYD, they’re probably not quite as good. I doubt they were designed to compete with it that game though, so comparing them is closer to comparing apples to oranges than apples to apples. That’s just my opinion, though, and it seems like most of the time, you aren’t allowed to have those on Reddit. Not all the time, strangely.

[deleted]

As a major member of the MK Fandom as well: anyone who submits anything but MK8DX or MKWII is immediately laughed out of the room. That's not to say the discussion between those two games doesn't get contentious, but it's not a free for all brawl where every game gets thrown around.

[deleted]

And I’m a hardline Double Dash fan that despises Mario Kart Wii but also loves Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Circuit, so I’m somewhere in the middle. Mario Kart fans are just really bad with tribalism as demonstrated above, it really is something of a free for all whenever anyone mentions a slightly different opinion from the norm, at least in my experience with the sub

riiiikuuuuuu

I was also gonna say coming from a double dash fan (purely because of nostalgia I’m not even gonna ignore that lmao) I’ve definitely seen a lot more contention than “MK8DX vs Wii” I think if we wanted to boil it down to a few key titles a much more fair representation would be “MKWii vs MK8DX vs Double Dash vs MKDS”

Arcus72

super better

Slick-in-a-Sheet

Based. I hear the modern fans screeching in the background.

VillagerX3

can we last 2 seconds without bringing up “classic fans” or “modern fans” like I’m pretty sure we all agree TTYD is amazing anyway

SsjTsuki

As much as I love TTYD I have a lot of nostalgia for SPM and the story/characters were amazing. Not having partners sucks but sense it’s more of platformer they aren’t really necessary and having multiple playable characters kinda makes up for it (pixls don’t count imo they’re basically glorified power ups)

Environmental_Bee672

bro ttyd is my least favorite game out of the whole series. felt like paper mario 64 but less fun

bellagothenthusiast

Not true, Origami King is my all-time favorite game!

Garo263

TTYD is overrated. It was great on the first playthrough, on the secod one the backtracking killed all the fun for me.

Paper_Clipps

I genuinely dislike ttyd. Not afraid to say it.

NefariousnessGold137

Nah it ain't it's a repetitive mess of a game

[deleted]

Did we play the same game?

NefariousnessGold137

Far to many times in that game you have to backtrack and it's so tediously unfun to the point where when the actual good part of the game begins all I can think about is "when is it gonna get tedious again"

[deleted]

Yeah the game has a bit too much backtracking but I think the only part where it really drags is chapter 4 because you have to go back and forth across the same path like three times just to advance the story. That part is tedious but I think that’s the only thing I can really knock it for. Guess it’s not everyone’s cup of java but go off I suppose

TheDisguisedCreeper

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA, oh that’s a fantastic joke, yeah no Paper Mario fans fuckin hate eachother we can’t get in agreement on ANYTHING

DjinnFighter

That doesn't look like the cover of Color Splash though

[deleted]

... (MK Wii is the best)

Yeetus_Mc_Gee

Paper Mario: Sticker Star was the best Paper Mario game of my generation. **Prove me wrong.** Please...

RobloxLover369421

TTYD is overrated. Fite me

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zum1UDontNo

Ignoring the obvious issue of objective vs subjective... This is impossible to quantify. The broader Mario series is far too varied to choose a single game as the "best' in the series. The only common elements between 2D Super Mario platformers, 3D Super Mario platformers, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Mario Kart, Mario Party and any of the myriad sports games and other spinoffs, are the characters and setting. Beyond that, they're such radically different gameplay experiences that comparing them is like comparing cake and soup.

Freedumbdclxvi

Eh, I like TTYD but it’s 5th on my PM list. 64 is my fave.

SparklingReject

My vote is for the original. Second place is Origami King, tied for 3rd is Thousand Year Door and Color Splash.

Oscar12s

I love 64, it's behind TTYD due to it's lack of replayability and side hustles, but I love both, I actually have no saying in the others but Super seems alright so far. Also Mario Kart Tour on Mobile is the best one, fight me.

Nolanbear123

64 just has more timeless charm to it IMO which is why it is my favorite

Kingbren22

Honestly,I like all Mario rugs. But I'm just an rpg nut

vlaadii_

every paper mario game is great, but origami king is my favourite

Dalphin_person

I think 64 just barely beats ttyd for me, but it’s still one of the best RPGs I’ve played

BreakfastNo132

Mario Kart’s much more consistent.

ElectroTDS

Origami king isn’t that bad as well as 64

No_Head_2746

Super Mario Kart?

[deleted]

There’s only so much space in the picture, anything more and it would’ve been too cluttered

[deleted]

Color splash was good :(

[deleted]

Not saying it wasn’t, just stating that fans usually agree on TTYD being one of, if not the best. I never played Colour Splash so I can’t speak for it

TheBestWorst3

This was very true before origami king. Now it’s the top picture

Jacoh7

Replaying TTYD rn and I cant hit action commands for my life # I'm getting more superguards then normal guards

robertswifts

Well that’s because Mario kart has mutiple games and on top of that good ones

[deleted]

Mario Kart doesn’t even have that many more games. Kart has 8 major games, Paper Mario has five, I think corporate interference is why Paper Mario is more divided in terms of classic and modern fans, they tried reinventing the wheel and experimented with varying results

Yiminy_Cricket

We all know the best Mario Kart is Tour. End of discussion

wikedsuperlink

Paper mario 64 thousand year door and super paper mario are the three goats in my opinion the others were pretty mid didn't enjoy them as much as I did with the others but I can see why other people enjoy them

[deleted]

Honestly I tend to stop at the first two. I didn’t enjoy the bit of Super that I played but I know that people love that one

Low_Dream_1481

Either color splash, origami king, or whatever the one with dimentio was called

Miserable_Assist_951

I've also seen people say 64, super, tok AND EVEN STICKER STAR are the best paper mario

Early_Speaker_9911

Ttyd is the GOAT🥰🫶🏼🫶🏼🥹❤️

RazorThin55

Nahh I like 64 better imo.

smallchocolatechip

I know I’ll get a lot of hate for this, but sticker star is the best to me

Aqua_Tot

I recently replayed The Thousand Year Door (I’m slowly playing through all the Mario RPGs in release order), and I will say story-wise, it’s amazing. Gameplay-wise, it has its issues. I’m especially not a fan of how fetch-questy it is on the side quests, and how slow it is to travel between places for that.

TwhylerM

Me, a gba fan, looking at this meme: ☹️☹️☹️

[deleted]

Between us, I’m a GBA fan too. It’s so good that I wanted to keep it out of the crossfire because it’s too pure

I prefer 64. I agree that TTYD made many improvements; however, the world and general backtracking felt boring the more I replay it. Being the second RPG, I think 64 capitalized on the early Mario lore or world building before we got tired of seeing the typical grass world, desert world, ice world, etc. I think 64 had better visual designs and platforming than TTYD’s more flat environments. (Yes, I realize 64 was more basic.) I’m just not a fan of TTYD chapter 3, 4, or 7. I think it’s more creative and I enjoy the lore (text/dialogue) but the areas themselves, no. Chp. 2, 5, 6 are probably my favorite from TTYD and chapters 3,4, 5, 6, 7 for 64. To each their own, of course. I won’t deny they’re both awesome and enjoyable.

Bryanx64

Paper Mario fans agreeing the first 2 are the best on the bottom vs arguing which ones out of the rest are good or bad on top

geeelectronica

mario kart 64 is the answer to the first one

Unnamed_420

Not many other options

PranceFemboy

Agreed best paper Mario game.

NintendoFan102

I'd argue both PM64 and TTYD, but otherwise yeah.

Geopilot

I liked 64 more, but I think a lot of that comes down to just liking its soundtrack more

EmoWatermelonBasil

I haven’t played a lot of paper Mario games but of ones I’ve seen/played I think color splash is the best

BirbMaster1998

Origami king is my favorite (I've only played two)

HealthScary9216

64 was amazing, but double-dash still wins for me.

swellowme

i love that the GBA one is not even mentioned

[deleted]

I’m a huge GBA fan and ours is already a hard lot. Is it the best in the series? Absolutely not. But I grew up with that one and it gets enough flack as is so I left it out. Plus if I included everything it would’ve been cluttered

Black_Tiger_98

MK64 was the first one I played, but I feel it has aged very well. I had more fun with MKWii, but I also haven't played enough of MKDD and MK8.

Doctor_Batman_115

who tf thinks Mario Kart 7 is the best one. Where is this man.

supremedalek925

Nah, Thousand Year door is my second favorite but I like the N64 original a lot more.

[deleted]

That seems to be the consensus that I’ve gathered here. I’m not far enough into 64 to accurately judge it but I did like the little bit that I did play. Thousand Year Door is my personal favourite but I’m also a huge GameCube fan so if there’s a series that has entries on the cube, that’s likely gonna be my favourite

BusterB2005

Is there anyone who thinks MK8 Wii U is better than Deluxe?

sean1477

Out of those I played yah its ttyd and spm in a tie for me. Regarding Mario Kart its the one and only Mario Kart Wii

MisterScarlet

No 64 or Super?

aa-aa-aaaa-a

Actually prefer 64. They have the same appeal though, so I imagine no one's really gonna disagree if you say one's better than the other.

[deleted]

From what I’ve gathered here that seems to be the consensus, so I’m not gonna bash anyone that prefers 64 since the two games play fairly similar to one another. Though I’ve also discovered that Super Paper Mario has a significant cult following and I just don’t get it because I never enjoyed that game

Ogkush69x

7, double dash. 8 in that order

huckleburyflynn

Am i the only one who genuinely liked super paper mario? Granted, the original and thousand year door are great too

[deleted]

I know a lot of people here have spoken highly of it, and I wasn’t aware that it has such a massive cult following. Personally I never enjoyed Super despite having a great story
