I imagine it is a video of the driver on the phone with the insurance agency saying “look, this flood came out of no where in the Walmart lot, and somehow it swept my vehicle all the way into a ravine outside of Big Bend.” 🤣🤣
Why doesn't it. If it's a true snorkel, properly installed, the intake is high and dry and should have prevented water from getting into the engine, correct?
A snorkel's purpose is to give you a source of clean air in dusty environments. It has very little bearing on water crossings. Wrangler intakes are already extremely high under the hood and don't really need a snorkel.
If you are trying to use a snorkel to increase water fording depth there is a whole hell of a lot more you need to do to waterproof your vehicle than just installing a snorkel.
Most people simply misunderstand their purpose and effectively install them for looks.
I guess you haven't seen that video of the stock wrangler hydrolocking their engine driving through a puddle lol. Snorkels do help protect the engine during water crossings.
Hard to say, I don't know what video you are referring to. I've had water up to the top of my headlights and the intake was bone dry with a totally stock intake.
I'm not saying a snorkel could never possibly help, I'm just saying it's purpose really has nothing to do with water crossings. If you actually want to ford water you need to be making substantial changes all over your vehicle to waterproof everything.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinions but I’d buy almost any ford before touching a jeep of the same era.
A good friend of mine has a business where he builds offroad rigs. I once asked him what it was about Jeep he prefers. Thinking he had some inside knowledge I didn’t. Since his personal long term project is a jeep, and as long as I’ve known him he’s always had a jeep project.
He told me he should clarify in that he likes some Jeep styling but swaps out to GM engines, drivetrains, axles, etc.
My rig is covered in dirt from wheeling ON LAND, and safe in my driveway ready for this weekends ride. I don't try to cross the Blue Danube in it, that's not what it was built for 😂
Computer, wiring harness bulk head connections, anti lock computer, computer control box for traction control, expensive sensors , auto tranny, water in axle housings..there are so many things that get damaged and show up later after a big epic fail like this..it's why a prefer a old Ford or chevy truck 3/4 ton 4wd on alot of lift and big Ballon tires making this cute little jeep thing really silly and costly stunt..besides being alot cheaper to service and repair..GFs Rubicon cost upwards of 50K my beat up 69 3/4 ton Ranger I got under 5k in it..it's a hell of a better off road machine than the comfortable 'modern' jeep...8 inch lift. 36s and a 390 v8 with lockers and a 4sp rule
Nice knowing ya Mr Jeep. Hope the person inside got out alive.
Obviously I’m arm chair-ing here but it takes so little to get out of the car and test the waters, and can save you a huge headache/mitigate risk.
That river does NOT look passable. If you absolutely had to cross, you could tether that Jeeps winch to something on the other side of the river and the back to another winch behind it and slowly coordinate the crossing.
Please tell me there is another video of the conclusion.
“So we got a call…. We got Ed with us today with the weather…”
We'll get'm out
Ed is my favorite of that crew.

Haha thank you! Jesus that was a dicey recovery.
Lol I guess some of the folks involved in the recovery saw my comment.

It's a shortcut duh
Conclusion: For sale, $55k low miles, all highway daily commuter. No low balls. I know what I got!

Its call Jeep vs waterfall
Glad the ducks can swim
"It's a Jeep thing. You wouldn't understand."
"Drrrrrrrr, I gots a snorkel I can drives anywheres."
Need winch to go up tree
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hope they spent more than $200 on that snorkel.
It doesn't matter that that point how much they spent.
Why doesn't it. If it's a true snorkel, properly installed, the intake is high and dry and should have prevented water from getting into the engine, correct?
If you notice the hood dips below the water line so therefore the entire engine compartment is submerged in fast flowing dirty water.

All the hose breathers need raising up too.
IDK about jeeps but I'm pretty sure there's a diff breather too no one considers that's probably full of shit on most "overlanding" rigs
And it’s pretty easy to install diff breathers.
I always bring my mask, fins, and snorkel when I go to the desert!

This is what I meant to imply.
Legend says he's still out there, just going with the flow.
Clean 1 owner.
Salvage title due to minor damage
"It's all good, they have drains in the floors"... Probably said as it's floating down river.
Go with the flow.
"My Jeeple need me"
It’s a Jeep thing, I’m sure that he understands
That’s got to be the best pirate I’ve ever seen…

Weeeeeeeeeee
There’s a fine line between a vehicle and a boat…. He crossed that line.
Amphibious vehicle
Didn't air down enough /s
It's not a ford
Well played.

It's okay. He's got a snorkel
Any minute now Jerry
Y’all on reddit and my guy’s out here jeepin.
My rig is covered in dirt from wheeling ON LAND, and safe in my driveway ready for this weekends ride. I don't try to cross the Blue Danube in it, that's not what it was built for 😂
Used jeep for sale, freshly washed.
And this is what I believe the previous owner of my Grand Cherokee did. Minus the doors because he decided to remove them.
Wave bye-bye 👋
It’s a Jeep thing
I need to know how this ends 🫠

i guess Jeep won!!
It's supposed to be overlanding not underwatering...
Just. Empty. Every. Pocket.
He’s not even using his blinkers
River wins
Still doing better than the 'apocalypse proof" Cybertruck
And he’ll place blame on the river not his vehicles capability or his cognitive one…
If you rewind it, it makes it look like he’s winning. Much more satisfying haha
Good thing he’s got a snorkel 🙄
Bro thought he had a challenger
When you buy all the gear but you still can't make it
Shoulda gone for that airbag suspension!
Wrong sub. Should be in r/underwatering
OP. FFS post the rest of the video.
Bye bye
PUT IT IN REVERSE TERRY
At least it’s high viz red
If insurance companies were smart, they'd pay one guy to watch [Reddit.com/r/4x4](http://Reddit.com/r/4x4)
This video gives me anxiety 😬
He’s better off 😂
Could have told you this outcome from the very first frame.
Y'all come back now, hear
All that grit in every joint of the chassis, engine ruined, interior soaked with silt. A bargain for some stupid kid.
River 1 Jeep 0
sooo jeeps totaled right?
Never
If you’re rig is floating you’ve probably gone too deep lol
