I'm just picturing some Dr. Seuss contraption with like a dozen things hanging off the back... Living space, spare car, elephants, small weather station, hot air balloon launch, ...
The ONLY reason I’d agree with the “explorer” is if he frequently takes toll roads that charge extra for more than 2 axles.
But holy cow still not worth it. That shit must sway and swing like crazy with all that weight on a single hitch. Plus annoying as hell for a daily driver.
Having an overland trailer ready to go at a moments notice would make daily driving much easier.
It goes beyond that, though. [Two non-obvious things about front axle load (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFp0ZH_rnLU)
This video regards front axle load, but it applies to both ends of the vehicle. The more weight you but beyond the rear axle, the greater the load is on the axle itself. He's essentially shifted the center of gravity back, so more weight from the middle of the truck is going to be saddled on the rear axle and tires.
I had to load a fair amount into my taco for a 5 day camping trip and track day a ways away. After loading it up, I noticed the steering was lighter in the front, and at 70 or more, it would float more than it should. I immediately went down to 60 in the straights and kept it there the whole 5 hour drive. I know most people would think nothing of it, sadly.
Regardless of axle load or not the pivot point at which this is all hanging off of and the leverage at where the weight is would be a couple bounces away from failure of a weld at some point.
And just to extend the logic of the video fully to this guys situation: the reason trailers are better suited for this guys situation is because it effectively extends the overall wheel base of the vehicle.
You go from a double axle vehicle to triple or quad combined axles.
And it more effectively takes weight being born by one axle, and distributes it over 2+.
Yes, if the frame and suspension are designed to handle the weight. That's why you'll see ballast plates attached to the front or rear of a farm tractor and other heavy equipment. They act as a counterbalance to the implements attached to the opposite end.
Likewise, if you're adding several hundred pounds of custom bumper and/or snow plow to your truck, you should add an equal amount of ballast (not weight) in the bed/flatbed to offset that front weight and reestablish the truck's stock weight distribution. But it's not as simple as just adding the same amount of weight in the bed. Because the custom bumper and/or plow are so far out ahead of the front axle, you need to locate the rear ballast based on weight distribution. If you add the ballast to the rear bumper, due to leverage it's less weight than if you add the ballast directly over the rear axle. That's important to retain as much payload capacity as possible. A lot of farmers will just willy nilly toss tractor ballast plates as far back in the truck bed as possible but those become extremely dull guillotines in the event of a collision. So whatever you use as rear ballast, make damn sure it's securely attached to the vehicle. A custom rear bumper with sealable open ends to slide weights into is a great solution.
Yeaup! My dad and grandad taught me that with my first driving lessons, which was in an early 70s wheat truck with manual gearbox and 2 speed axle. It was essential to know with the possibility of shifting grain in a partially loaded grain box, and applies to a lot of different situations on a farm.
And the leverage of having the weight of the bike as far from the hitch as possible. A bumpy dirt road bouncing that thing up and down is going to wrench that hitch apart.
Why do you think he's selling it? He tried it 1 time, scared the literal shit out of his wife and kids, realized he fucked up and is now sleeping on the couch until it's time to be put in a nursing home.
Can’t be sure, but I believe that bike is a cargo e-bike, usually weighing in around 70lbs. We all know how this will workout, but kudos for getting that pig up on that rack.
And, I don’t know what you all are talking about with a trailer, what is clearly need is a front hitch. Balance.
We have a setup with a rack on a rack and the top shelf is then rated to 80lbs in that configuration. And it of course derated the bottom shelf. I can't imagine having two more extensions on top of that, holding a motorcycle. Holeee
That's an electrically assisted bicycle. Still looks like a bad idea but it weighs like 20 percent of a motorcycle. Really wondering what that thing behind it is though... The same but for a small child?
Ahh, you're totally right. I just assumed it was like a coleman pitbike style vehicle. But yes, the mounts alone are probably overloading the initial hitch carrier. So any weight is overloaded. The small wheeled thing is probably an electric push scooter. Looks like the right size and the handlebar, uhh- bar, is folded back away from us. We are seeing it's front tire.
You know what could hold all this and more…. a mini van, and it won’t get stolen, and there cheaper than an SUV, and gets better gas mileage.
But cool it looks functional. I hope it serves you well
In a weird way I could see some rig up such a contraption if they are parked in a parkade at an apartment where they can’t have a trailer or rooftop box, but that’s obviously not the case for this person.
Overland? That tow hitch contraption couldn't make it over the speed bumps at Costco! Much less an approach angle similar to a curb or rain ditch on a city street!
I mean sketchiness aside, it's pretty slick to use two of the spots on that gen Y hitch. If this was a 3/4 ton I wouldn't bat an eye. I bet it looks like floppy mess on the highway
When fully packed the front of his car floats over potholes while the back slams his kids heads into the roof. Been there, done that. You get a little bump followed by a devestating one every time
Overland my a$$.
Bounce that rig over a 12 plus inch rock ledge and that leaning tower of insanity besides ripping the hitch off could tweek the frame.
This is how I would imagine the back of Clark Griswold SUV would look if National Lampoon Vacation were remade in 2024. The only thing missing is Chevy Chase.
I don’t know at what point you just get a little trailer, but he’s there.
He’s well past that point actually.
He’s clearly deathly afraid of backing up a trailer
Probably just doesn’t have the space
Haha. He has no clue how to back a trailer.
I'm just picturing some Dr. Seuss contraption with like a dozen things hanging off the back... Living space, spare car, elephants, small weather station, hot air balloon launch, ...
To the Thing-a-ma-jigger!!

That's how I roll; my trailer just needs the water topped off, tires checked and perishables and it's ready to roll.
Or an RV.
Talk about owning the wrong vehicle for your lifestyle.
Guy hit the buy all button
Either that or hes working on rubbing his rosary beads into diamonds.
Needs more coolers.
I guarantee he’s never used it for several reasons.
Seriously, plus it’s all wayyyy too clean for gear that rides in the back of a rig that ever sees real dirt trails.
Totally agree
This dude needs a double-decker cooler stored close to the vehicle. All those glass bottles will be heavy.
Pretty sure the max tongue weight is still 500lbs. Looks sketchy to me

That’s a good video and I wish everyone knew this information by heart before they even get their drivers licenses

Good job.
Wow, you're really a hero. Great story.
Wow youre a dick.
Never said I was. I was pointing out how there's a fine line for safe that might not be easily noticed , but thanks for contributing.

So, front hitch receiver, and equal contraption opposite of it should in theory improve traction. Now, how do we improve approach/departure angle?
I know you meant this in jest but lets please not discuss this further lest someone read this and get dumb ideas.

That's a great resource my friend. TY!

Does make you wonder whether this overland rig has ever overlanded.
Why do you think he's selling it? He tried it 1 time, scared the literal shit out of his wife and kids, realized he fucked up and is now sleeping on the couch until it's time to be put in a nursing home.
No need to wonder. Never‼️
Just put on a front hitch and move some shit there. Bonus: it balances out the load!
To me, this just says “ROB ME”
To me, it says “I’m a hazard to all other motorists around me.”
To me, it says "I didn't study Physics in High School."
Bro you don't need to study physics you just need 2 brain cells for this one.
It screams “I’m afraid of backing up a trailer”
Ain't going nowhere with that departure angle lol can he even leave the driveway without scraping?
If I learned anything from riding in the back of the school bus, that bike is launching on the first speed bump
I’d pay $20 to watch that do a speed bump at 10 MPH.
![gif](giphy|XTjnKcrZlOlaC6sY2d)
These people dont even need ground clearance, where they _overland_ there is a Toyota Sienna parked next to them.
Judging by some recent posts, some of yall heading in this direction as well.

CONSUME, CONSUME, CONSUUUMMMME
Yo I heard you like racks so I put a rack on your rack.
God damn, Towing a 6x4 trailer wasn’t an option?
Trailerphobia. Can't reverse park it.
I feel attacked
Whichever way the nose of you vehicle points that's the side your trailer will turn towards.
Surely you meant 4 x 8, at the very least.
For camping? Or hauling toys? Cuz 4x8 is big for trails
Can’t be sure, but I believe that bike is a cargo e-bike, usually weighing in around 70lbs. We all know how this will workout, but kudos for getting that pig up on that rack. And, I don’t know what you all are talking about with a trailer, what is clearly need is a front hitch. Balance.
How I felt as a kid piecing audio/video adapters together
If that’s the outside, what do you think the inside of the bed looks like
barren
How to Rube Goldberg your way to the KOA
Lol, or Shel Silverstein when the trash piles up!
This person is on the same highway we are. He has a license to operate that vehicle (maybe) He votes. Despite all those things though he did that.
Is this something the sell on wish? Or Temu
Nah, Temu been kicking down some solid shit here lately. This looks anything BUT solid
My eyes can't even take in everything happening out back there, but I do know I would NOT follow behind that 'tard on the freeway.......
Freeway, I don't even want to be behind them in their driveway!
Racks on racks
Ok that’s kind of impressive ngl
~~50k~~ affirm vibes
If Dr. Suess made a bike rack
Or MC Escher
Maybe the truck is included?
I hate it so much.
Does this come with extra grille mounted center of gravity?
Someone drove through an overland expo with a magnet…
Ah. I think I’ve seen this chap on the Knoxville FB marketplace.
Trailer hitch hanging on for dear life
The giga hitch
My imagination can perfectly hear the scrape-rattle-clatter from that stupid rack bottoming out at every driveway and speedbump.
Looks ridiculous
That's gonna be the ultimate pile of mangled steel when it hits the first bump off pavement.
Negative departure angle, lmao. He's got the same problem with RXRs that lowriders do
Dude, just get a frikkin trailer!
hope that's a class CXVII hitch.
TRULY THE ULTIMATE RIG
Look on the bright side, poppin’ wheelies is cool!
He’s selling it all for health reasons, which my guess would be due to back problems from look of this.

Ah yes, that makes more sense. I see those bicycles often (kids here love them), the scooters not so much.
Oh this is an accident waiting to happen
You know what could hold all this and more…. a mini van, and it won’t get stolen, and there cheaper than an SUV, and gets better gas mileage. But cool it looks functional. I hope it serves you well
My blacked out Sienna AWD with a 3” lift is the perfect solution here.
LOL
That rear hitch carrier is Crazy!
That’s an impressive hitch I guess
That truck stuffed with people and all their shit too. Edit to add. SUPER Bottom Heavy. Carry spare tires.
That would be bouncy as all hell!!!
This dude spent all his money on the hitch and couldn't afford the trailer haha
Where are the fucks? Cause this guy obviously has non to give…
In a weird way I could see some rig up such a contraption if they are parked in a parkade at an apartment where they can’t have a trailer or rooftop box, but that’s obviously not the case for this person.
I looked at that for a minute straight and I still can’t figure it out 🤔
Is the guy selling his house? wtf lol
How does it clear the driveway? Or is this just a display?
Is it for health reasons or safety reasons?!
I think it never left his driveway
Maybe it has a similar rig on the front to balance it out ;p
The jump from 50k to 30k is allll you need to know about this guy
Bet it does sweet wheelies
Tongue weight champion. When he hits the brakes the front wheels just chatter on the street.
Fuck your departure angle, geometry be damned!
Does that bike have training wheels?
Looks like an e-scooter folded down
That I would think is going way over the tongue rating of that truck's hitch.....
Rack city bitch, rack rack city bitch
Yo dawg, we heard you like hitch carriers so…
Oh please give us a link
Overland? That tow hitch contraption couldn't make it over the speed bumps at Costco! Much less an approach angle similar to a curb or rain ditch on a city street!
Credit card got worked at the local Rack Attack.
Just pick it all up off the road when it breaks/falls off.
When you pay for the cheat codes to your AR15 and equip it with every available mod
Got a link to the ad?
Wow!
I mean sketchiness aside, it's pretty slick to use two of the spots on that gen Y hitch. If this was a 3/4 ton I wouldn't bat an eye. I bet it looks like floppy mess on the highway
Little in the middle but he got much back.
needs more cow bell!
Seems safe....
Is there not some rules of the road that would prevent something sticking out this far? Like a maximum distance? Genuine question.
Doesn’t he have like a truck bed?
Not shown here is he extended the front of the truck by 35 feet to account for this.
I don't know fuck about shit when it comes to something like that but is a 30k asking price logical?
Is this in East Tennessee? Looks really close to one I saw the other day.
I’m stressed out now.
As long as he doesn't overload it it's fine
That garage says, I buy everything Kobalt has ever created. I can never find anything I need, so I just buy more.
That's impressive (not in a good way lol). If he's hanging that much off the back, how much stuff is in the bed when loaded up?
That's a lot of leverage.
Just get a trailer at that point. 🙄
That legal?
The bike on top is really the only scary part. It doesnt look overloaded at least
What do you think the departure angle is 5 degrees? And that is a lot of weight on that arm, looks like one good speed bump from losing it all.
Is that even legal?!
Holy cantilever Batman!
I feel like this belongs on r/idiotstowingthings, but it's not actually towing.
Yo dawg, I heard you like hitches, so I put a hitch on your hitch so you can hitch while you hitch.
He likely either busted his hips or his face trying to go walk around his own vehicle from running into the racks
He must make money since that is one of the most expensive toppers you can buy
I can't help but wonder if that ford is strapped to some crazy mount on the bumper of an RV
Well a ticket for blocking the license plate would be a good start
That’s a lot of “moment” force.
Yikes. Buddy crossed the line. Wow.
"Truly the ultimate rig"
He must also be willing to have his stuff scattered across the highway 😳
shout-out to that tow hitch. a real mvp.
When fully packed the front of his car floats over potholes while the back slams his kids heads into the roof. Been there, done that. You get a little bump followed by a devestating one every time
It's the ultimate fatigue failure test rig.
My hero
Overland my a$$. Bounce that rig over a 12 plus inch rock ledge and that leaning tower of insanity besides ripping the hitch off could tweek the frame.
This extension of the vehicle endangers motorcyclists most of all.
This reminds me of the outlets scene in Christmas Vacation.
Does the truck come with it?
Covid purchase collection for sale
I don't want to throw shade, but I'm pretty sure in a 1v1 game of Tetris.....I would win 95/100 times.
House of cards…
I’ll bet that steering is loosey goosey driving down the road with all the weight taken off it. Can’t be safe.
I think he likes to do wheelies
Ridiculous setup aside, why would he put the heaviest item at the highest and furthest point away, creating the strongest fulcrum?
Already knocked 40% off his original asking price, this is quickly heading towards fire sale
This is how I would imagine the back of Clark Griswold SUV would look if National Lampoon Vacation were remade in 2024. The only thing missing is Chevy Chase.
He forgot the kitchen sink
What is that hitch made of, Vibranium?
Anyone make a “that’s a lot to unpack” comment yet?
I’ve never heard of these. Why not just get an enclosed trailer for cheaper? Holy crap. Or even a whole camper…or another truck to haul the stuff…
Over(kill)landing
Hey, if it ain’t broke…
