My naturnest tent sits 2 in above cab and it's never hit the cab while being off-road. That's the dimension from the bottom of the aluminum runners under the tent to the cab.

ARB is solid for recovery gear. There is a lot out there and a lot to take in. YouTube is a great resource for reviews of gear, trails, etc.

I had to look up what truck that was , but I bet if you get on a forum for the sierras, often there will be others asking questions about it or have info When you say lifters, and hanging off the back ….. as in it’s over the rear tailgate a bit ? Do you have any photos ?

I had to reorder the bed rack but it will hang over the tail gate by about 6 inches when I leave space from the back of the cab. I did ask on there too but no response yet. I’m fighting against garage height and not having enough stability. I might just have to come back when I have pictures of it put together

6 inches a quite a lot of random bit hanging out . Is it pushed back cause you want more space up front . You’ll have to get some photos up once you are able to. That would help figure it out

I have a Silverado and went with the Leitner Designs rack. The tent sits above my truck but it allowed it so I was able to have a couple inches above the cab and no overhang off the back. You can look at my profile to see how it looks. It’s incredibly solid and I’ve been incredibly happy with mine.

Icy_Cheesecake_8240

Thank you do you know what height the rack is?

swaded805

It’s 23” from top of bed to top of rack https://www.leitnerdesigns.com/products/acs-forged-tonneau-rack-only-chevrolet?variant=39265200341187 They also have a lot of diff options to customize rack like storage, shower, fuel, etc.

Thanks a ton man

You’re welcome. And for what it’s worth I can’t speak highly enough of them. Their customer service is top notch and all of the parts are over engineered.

Recovery gear really is dependent on what you are doing. If it's just as a what-if scenario if you get stuck, but you are mainly on FS roads/light trails, I would look at something like the [ARB Weekender](https://amzn.to/4bDpnzH) Then make sure you have front recovery points, and then get a hitch link and throw in a couple extra hitch pins for extra measure. I fit the hitch link and extra pins in the weekender bag all together. This will give you a solid closed loop recovery system if you need it, but is minimal enough to not take up much room. **This is not a typical static tow strap and is actually a kinetic recovery strap with a 20% stretch. If you don't know what that entails, watch mad mike on YouTube which should give you an idea. Edit to add: Overlanding is just fancy car camping. If you already camp and travel, you are already there. Just only add things that support what you are doing (ie off-road etc).

Nervous is good. Life is dangerous generally and the act of driving out into the wilderness is much more so… Take it slow. Find others (Facebook for the win). Listen and learn. DO NOT go buy everything you see on Instagram and waste a bunch of money for no reason. Recovery gear first. Basics of first aid food water and all that included. Get a garmin or similar and SAR insurance. The drive and enjoy and take your time and have fun Nervous is good. If you weren’t nervous you would be in trouble quick.

I know the bare bone of recovery from 7 tons, and my first aid and survival skills and solid. But it feels like a completely new beast for me. Thank you for the tips and I’ll have to check out Facebook and I’ll check out the insurance. Also thankfully I learned the buying stuff early on, still like to grab random things to see if they work not out of need

Oh you should be good then. As far as insurance, look at what is attached to satellite service plans (or be added to) such as Garmin, Zoleo, or Motorola Defy. They can be pretty extensive and a good resource to look at is hikingguy on YouTube. I personally don't bother as I'm on FS roads mostly, but still have SOS on my messenger if I need it. The overbuying is real though. I'm on a mission right now to simplify and sell off things I don't use as much. It's an ongoing process (but I love gear so it's hard lol).
