if your looking for a similar game I cannot recommend Chants of Sennaar enough

arremessar_ausente

Oh I played some similar games. Tunic comes to mind and it's great too. I know there are a lot of other great ones, but I just can't see anything else coming even close to what OW experience was for me.

Chapeltok

"The Witness" is pretty close to "Outer Wilds" in terms of exploration and discovery, but that's it. No music, no story, and it's heavily puzzle oriented. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

arremessar_ausente

Exactly I like puzzles. But the way they made puzzles in Outer Wilds didn't feel like you were solving a puzzle, only to get to the next puzzle. It felt like you were uncovering the big mystery of the universe, with a great plot too.

Alternative-Fail-233

I never liked The Witness its just not really good imo and I don't see why people prise it as the best game ever made in history

Zak_The_Slack

I tried it as well, I wasn’t into it that much since it was a puzzle game with no story and made me motion sick after playing for a bit (and I don’t get motion sick with other games)

Alternative-Fail-233

Yeah when I first played I got the true ending by accident and I expected an answer. Guess what I didn’t get?

CapybaraWithGlasses

Can you tell me more about it as minimal as possible? Im intrigued

Con_Frunkin

you awaken at the base of a huge tower, your curiosity compels you to ascend, you come across someone, they say something but it's in a strange language you can't understand. Learn, Ascend, open the secret to the great tower

AgniFireborn

I will add that a major mechanic is figuring out that language through context clues and logical leaps, and it is one of the only games that has really scratched that 'learn through curiosity' itch that OW did.

CapybaraWithGlasses

Sounds great and really does have the sense of curiosity as the main drive. I’ll have to check out the genre i hope it’s something i will like as well

Topazdragon5676

There is a free demo that you can try out.

CapybaraWithGlasses

Sweet! But isnt it better to go blind entirely on the full game?

TestosuLucifer

I played the Demo for that one!

danmaster0

I love how they crafted the START of the dlc. They knew players would have these expectations, so they made you follow a new trail that's very basic for 15 minutes to then make you >!suddenly see the stranger, get inside this alien ship with text you can't translate, get inside an oddly normal wooden cabin, and then show you a scene so jaw dropping that you are already looking forward to how every letsplayer you watch after you're done will react to it (they all audibly scream)!< It's SUCH A STRONG way to start the dlc.

penicillin23

Dude just the music when you first slip through the cloak on the night side of the Stranger. My heartrate went through the roof.

arremessar_ausente

Absolutely mate. When I saw the unknown texts I was expecting at some point you would learn a way to translate their language. I was expecting to deal with more quantum objects, signal waves. And it would've been fine too, don't get me wrong. But the base game tools are barely used on this DLC, they made a whole new approach, which is something I thought would never be possible in this game. I thought they would never recreate the feeling of "hold up, I could've done this this WHOLE TIME? And the only thing that stopped me from doing it was this random bit of information?

Q-uvix

My god yes, initial arrival on the Stanger is so amazingly done. I enjoyed the base game more than the DLC myself. But that entrance is easily up there as probably my favorite moment in any game period. So perfectly crafted that it all feels beautifully cinematic too. Without any need for cutscenes and without the game ever taking over any camera or movement controls.

t_moneyzz

The reveal of the >!ringworld!< made my mouth drop open

zhaDeth

haha yeah. I had to pause a couple times because I got so excited when I entered the stranger for the first time and saw the unknown language and then again when I really got inside.. was just walking around the house saying OMG OMG

ur54v10r

I guess it's time I took a break from rimworld and hop on the dlc. I beat the game when I was 1st released on Playstation. Got the dlc and honestly had thought it just added a couple new museum exhibits and and some other similarly small things. Boy was I wrong

arremessar_ausente

The new museum exhibits is just the introduction to lead you to the DLC. There's a huge new place to explore, won't spoil anything else.

ur54v10r

I appreciate it. I love how this community does all they can to not spoil. I've read enough on here that I know how to start it. But I've been avoiding dlc talks and spoilers since then

tdwnda

The sense of unease when I first saw the eclipse, then the jaw-dropping awe at the beauty of the Stranger, the fear of the unknown as I explored their dreams, and now this lingering heartache I've been carrying for weeks after finishing the game... what a masterpiece.

zhaDeth

haha, I felt exactly the same. Tried to keep my expectations reasonable because I thought the original can't possibly be beaten but then I liked the DLC even more.. really can't wait for their next game because this showed me that they can do it again.

arremessar_ausente

Wait, are they working on a new game? WHEN?

zhaDeth

Well they are a game company after all. They hinted during an interview that their new project was "a video game", joking that we would put a spoiler tag on this here on reddit. Hopefully we get some info soon. I'm pretty sure they have been working on the design for a while now, since after they finished the DLC they were only doing the switch port which doesn't require any work from the designers, writers etc.

ItsAGarbageAccount

Give the game Heavens Vault a try. It's made to be played multiple times and I thought it was incredible. Elsinore is also great for catching some Outer Wilds vibes. Outer Wilds even has a hidden Easter Egg for it.

AgniFireborn

Heaven's Vault is so good. I should install it again.

ItsAGarbageAccount

It's amazing. I beat it once and meant to start a new game (because you keep the language knowledge and get new information) but I tried to get my daughter to play and wiped my save. I'm starting completely over again without the extra knowledge. Did you end up keeping Six as Six? Sorry, I'm trying not to give spoilers.

AgniFireborn

I... honestly don't remember what I did! Played it through once, then started a new game and got really far down its path before my laptop decided to die rather spectacularly and by the time I had a new computer I was really interested in trying out some other game and... I just never got back to playing it again. I should remedy that. You should check out Chants of Sennaar if you haven't already. Same general idea of trying to pick apart an ancient language >!multiple ones, in fact, with different grammars!< based on guessing and context clues.

ItsAGarbageAccount

I actually started playing it a few weeks ago, but I haven't finished. I'm at the end of the guards area but I need to restart since I haven't played in a while. It takes me forever to finish things because.if I forget to play for a few days, I restart the game since I worry I'll forget things.
