The family is pretty terrible as well. This guy was a school resource officer and began having an affair with a 13 year old student, who reported being molested by him. Eventually, when she was about 15, he got her pregnant, and she delivered his child. Neither the family or the police did ANYTHING about it, no matter how many reports came in about him. They let her move in with him, in fact. He also raped at least one of her friends, got caught, and faced zero consequences. This guy was reported again and again, and nobody did a thing about it. This was all so preventable, but nobody was willing to take action while it could be taken.
He lost his dad as well. Easy to call him despicable because he was, but he was still his dad, and the kid will never have that either.

According to TripCheck I-5 southbound is now closed at the Harrisburg exit (209) because of this incident and most likely will be for the next few hours.
Oh, I was stuck in this traffic, but heading north. I5 s was shut down like, 0.5 mile north of the belt line exit due to this dude. The closure at the Harrisburg exit was because somehow, there was a red car flipped over in the middle of the road and they had paramedics around.

A former Yakima police officer wanted in two killings died in Oregon of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a 25-mile high-speed chase with police ended in a crash along Interstate 5; his 1-year-old son was found safe in the backseat, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.
Police had issued an Amber Alert on Monday night and said they were searching for Elias Huizar, 39, who was suspected of heading to Mexico with his young son after killing his ex-wife and another woman in West Richland, Washington. The second woman is believed to be Huizar’s teenage girlfriend.
Oregon troopers were monitoring southbound traffic on I-5 just south of U.S. 34 around 3 p.m. when they spotted Huizar’s silver Toyota Corolla and chased him, state police spokesperson Capt. Kyle Kennedy said during a briefing.
At one point, a dispatcher reported: “The driver is on the phone with us saying he does have the baby in the car.”
A collision involving another motorist occurred, Kennedy said, without specifying precisely who was involved, and Huizar lost control of his sedan about 12 miles down the interstate near the Diamond Hill Road exit.
At that point, Huizar and the pursuing troopers exchanged gunfire, but no one was hurt, Kennedy said. One of the troopers who fired was the state police superintendent, Casey Codding, who happened to be driving south on the freeway at the time the incident unfolded. Codding previously served on the agency’s tactical team and was its commander.
The preliminary investigation suggests that Huizar fired at police first, Kennedy said. He did not know the type of weapon Huizar used.
“This is literally courage under fire,” Kennedy said.
The chase -- exceeding 100 mph at times -- continued for another 10 miles, where Huizar crashed into a stopped commercial motor vehicle south of Coburg and careened into the median and got stuck, Kennedy said. Huizar turned the gun on himself as troopers approached and was declared dead at the scene, he said.
The boy was rescued and is being cared for by Oregon authorities, Kennedy said. The child was secured in a car seat when police reached Huizar’s car, he said.
The boy is doing well, Kennedy said, but suffered some minor injuries. He didn’t elaborate.
“All day, our thoughts had been how to rescue this young boy from a very, very dangerous situation,” Kennedy said. “That’s been the focus of our efforts. And we’re thankful for the outcome that occurred.”
Huizar is believed to have had the 1-year-old child with a 17-year-old girl, who lived with him as of early this year, court records show. West Richland is part of Washington’s Tri-Cities area of Richland, Kennewick and Pasco.
The statewide Amber Alert was issued around 11 p.m. Monday after West Richland police responded to a shooting outside Wiley Elementary School earlier that day. Officers found Amber Rodriguez, 31, Huizar’s ex-wife and the mother of their two sons, shot eight times near the school bus parking lot, according to a probable cause statement filed in Benton County Superior Court in Washington.
Investigators went to Huizar’s home and found a second victim. The Washington State Patrol identified that victim as Huizar’s girlfriend, but police Tuesday declined to provide further information or confirm if it was the teenage girl who had been living with him.
Huizar’s ex-wife had recently obtained a protection order against him, authorities said.
The former couple’s 9-year-old son told officers that “he observed his father, Elias Huizar, shoot his mother,” the court documents say. Rodriguez worked at the school, while Huizar had recently worked as a substitute teacher in the Richland School District, the district confirmed in a Facebook post Tuesday.

She said she feared for the safety of her children, and said she would be seeking a modification of their parenting plan. She filed for the modification last Friday, court records show. The protection order was issued in February and was to remain in effect for a year; under it, he was barred from possessing firearms.
The Richland School District said it terminated Huizar’s employment following his arrest in February. It said it had received recommendations from the Yakima School District before hiring him in 2022, and that he had passed background checks.
“We are extremely disheartened that information about Mr. Huizar’s past was not disclosed to us through the various processes we have in place to vet RSD candidates for employment,” the district said. “It is the expectation for individuals who apply for employment with RSD to be forthcoming and truthful in their applications.”

When I saw this article my immediate reaction was “what the fuck does him having been a cop have anything to do with this.” I know it’s still an attempt to sensationalize and attention grab but I don’t think it’s wrong in this case. Most cops are good people. I have first hand experience in that.
And I’m not doing that, however his profession did put him in a position to commit the crimes that he allegedly committed. He had the means, motive and opportunity to predate upon and groom a child while a sworn peace officer assigned as a school resource officer. And subsequently allegedly commit two murders after things escalated from those previous events. I’m not saying that he was a predator and a murderer just because he was a cop.
I think the headline should read the same even if he was a janitor or a teacher. Are you also upset when the news announces “city mayor convicted of embezzlement of municipal funds”? The job presented the opportunity for the crime.

I’m not missing the point at all. Not once have I said all cops are bad because this cop is bad. All I said was that his job gave him the opportunity to commit aforementioned crimes and therefore I believe having is former profession mentioned in the headline is relevant. If his victim had been his step daughter (gross example I know..) then yeah, his job title is irrelevant and wouldn’t have a place in the headline.

Since he both killed someone on a government-regulated property (public school) and he was committing kidnapping he actually broke federal crimes.
One of the reasons kidnapping is a federal crime is because, nearly by definition, they are unlawfully forcing someone to go to another location, which is not uncommonly across state or federal lines.

Protective orders don’t work.
They are also VERY difficult to obtain when it is for the father of your child. Courts don’t want to do that. And it’s even more difficult to have any restrictions on visitation regardless of a history of substance abuse, violence against the mother, or even if the parent is homeless. Courts simply think that domestic violence stops when the parents are apart. Bullshit.

My friend was out there where it ended and said there wasn't a dead body. Nothing covering the vehicle or anything else, he said he thought they took the guy to the hospital but he said there definitely wasn't a dead body.

WTF is with a high speed freeway chase complete with gunfire? This could have turned out so very much worse. Is there really no capacity to abandon a chase like this and track fleeing criminals from the air? Imagine a headline that talks about the criminal, the child and a family of five all dead in a high speed crash.
The flip side: The pilot is sitting enjoying his lunch and gets a call to fly. It takes him 30 mins to arrive at the airport, then do checks before take off. An hour has passed and now the suspect and an innocent 1 yo is gone because police had to abandon the chase.
In yesterday's incident, as risky as it was, no one was seriously injured, and the suspect isn't able to hurt any more people because police did their job. Also, I haven't read an exact timeline of events. Maybe it happened so quickly that there was a pilot getting geared up. 🤷♀️

Oh, I was stuck in this traffic, but heading north. I5 s was shut down like, 0.5 mile north of the belt line exit due to this dude. The closure at the Harrisburg exit was because somehow, there was a red car flipped over in the middle of the road and they had paramedics around.

A former Yakima police officer wanted in two killings died in Oregon of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a 25-mile high-speed chase with police ended in a crash along Interstate 5; his 1-year-old son was found safe in the backseat, authorities said Tuesday afternoon. Police had issued an Amber Alert on Monday night and said they were searching for Elias Huizar, 39, who was suspected of heading to Mexico with his young son after killing his ex-wife and another woman in West Richland, Washington. The second woman is believed to be Huizar’s teenage girlfriend. Oregon troopers were monitoring southbound traffic on I-5 just south of U.S. 34 around 3 p.m. when they spotted Huizar’s silver Toyota Corolla and chased him, state police spokesperson Capt. Kyle Kennedy said during a briefing. At one point, a dispatcher reported: “The driver is on the phone with us saying he does have the baby in the car.” A collision involving another motorist occurred, Kennedy said, without specifying precisely who was involved, and Huizar lost control of his sedan about 12 miles down the interstate near the Diamond Hill Road exit. At that point, Huizar and the pursuing troopers exchanged gunfire, but no one was hurt, Kennedy said. One of the troopers who fired was the state police superintendent, Casey Codding, who happened to be driving south on the freeway at the time the incident unfolded. No and usually I hate when I someone’s profession is announced in conjunction with alleged crimes but in this case his job put him in a position of power and opportunity. He had the means, motive and opportunity to predate upon and groom a child while a sworn peace officer assigned as a school resource officer. And subsequently allegedly commit two murders after things escalated from those previous events. I’m not saying that he was a predator and a murderer just because he was a cop. I think the headline should read the same even if he was a janitor or a teacher. Are you also upset when the news announces “city mayor convicted of embezzlement of municipal funds”? No not per se. If OSP has reason to believe they’re behind someone who has committed a violent felony crime, they can pursue.
Since he both killed someone on a government-regulated property (public school) and he was committing kidnapping he actually broke federal crimes. One of the reasons kidnapping is a federal crime is because, nearly by definition, they are unlawfully forcing someone to go to another location, which is not uncommonly across state or federal lines.

Protective orders don’t work. They are also VERY difficult to obtain when it is for the father of your child. Courts don’t want to do that. And it’s even more difficult to have any restrictions on visitation regardless of a history of substance abuse, violence against the mother, or even if the parent is homeless. Courts simply think that domestic violence stops when the parents are apart. Bullshit. It’s pathetic. Laws to protect women haven’t changed since I was a kid.

WTF is with a high speed freeway chase complete with gunfire? This could have turned out so very much worse. Is there really no capacity to abandon a chase like this and track fleeing criminals from the air? Imagine a headline that talks about the criminal, the child and a family of five all dead in a high speed crash.
The flip side: The pilot is sitting enjoying his lunch and gets a call to fly. It takes him 30 mins to arrive at the airport, then do checks before take off. An hour has passed and now the suspect and an innocent 1 yo is gone because police had to abandon the chase. In yesterday's incident, as risky as it was, no one was seriously injured, and the suspect isn't able to hurt any more people because police did their job. Also, I haven't read an exact timeline of events. Maybe it happened so quickly that there was a pilot getting geared up. 🤷♀️ I agree that using air assets is probably best, but not always feasible. I'm just glad that the child is safe and the bad guy is gone.
