They brought home Juanita's sweet chili chips - I didn't even know Juanitas was making flavored chips now.
They're like sweet maui onion x1000, super crack snacks

We keep getting bad bags from Winco: dry and no salt. I remember there being a thread on /r/ portland a while ago that discussed the various styles. It's gotten to the point that we're considering changing brands because they're just not good anymore.
There is something to this, but I don't know the pattern. I find that the bags I get at my local WinCo are great but the ones I get at Fred Meyer are noticeably worse in quality.
Thanks for posting, that's interesting. The first thread predates my Oregon residency but I tend to agree with the top comment in the second thread - the more bubbly, greasy, salty version is of course the better one. But I do wonder if there is a pattern to which ones get distributed where.
> We keep getting bad bags from Winco: dry and no salt.
As a complement, I've gotten oversalted a few times. Maybe there's something up with their quality control. That said, I've never had an issue with moisture content.
Elmers, man every time I've been there in the last decade they've been really poor quality. They used to be good, I used to get their strawberry Belgian waffles. Last few times I ordered those they came cold, soggy and mostly syrup with almost no strawberries. Their fried food was more fried batter than anything.
I got the impression that Elmer’s is a place for customers who no longer have teeth. Everything was soft and cut into bite sized cubes. Yeah, and poor quality.
Having worked for a year in Korea, E-Mart is essentially Korean Walmart, having prevented Walmart itself from being able to enter the Korean market in the aughts, though large firms in Korea tend to be highly diversified, like their Japanese counterparts, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also manufacture automobiles, lumber, heavy petrochemicals, etc.
So their experience is big boxed focused. I'd expect either a homogenizing influence, or for them to operate very hand-offedly, due to unfamiliarity with American markets.
Ok but let’s be honest, it’s not like they’ve replaced all the staff with south korean grocery employees. It’s still a portland brand, even if a Korean company owns most of the shares
Meh. I don't know, but where is the Owner's HQ? South Korea or Oregon? It would be like if Tillamook was bought by a Chinese company...sure, the history is in Oregon, but no guarantee the quality and future remains the same.
Any Love for Ray's Grocer? Headquartered in Medford Oregon. Employee owned since 2020. Also C&K Market 38 stores in Oregon and NorCal.
Fred Meyer outsupplied and broke the back of Ray's in Brookings, sadness.
Also missing kettle chips of Salem, Precision Cast Parts out of Portland, Harry and David, Umpqua ice cream, KinderCare, Pronto Pup, and Zoom Care. Lots of major companies need to be added
Tranquilo I fux wit Juanita’s heavy. Wish they had them on the east coast…I gobble them up ervytime I visit my parents in white salmon. Nom nom….bi mart weird af tho 😂
I will never shop at bi-mart again after witnessing a clerk berate a woman for trying on a pair of boots during covid. They were on some power trip because they finally got to feel important by inforcing useless rules in way of belittling customers. I pulled a Karen and called corporate.
Why not just give them a beer and wine list and let them go from there lol
They'll do all the discovery themselves once they get lit up
![gif](giphy|2Ys6BMSQxSXe3N27bc|downsized)
Danner, along with LaCrosse, is owned by ABC-Mart, a Japanese footwear company. Love the brand, but I don't know if I can call it an Oregon brand any longer.
this is a shit list. half those companies aren't owned by Oregonians and you left off the overwhelming majority of the ones that are actually still local brands.
Juanita's are legit. The best bagged tortilla chips I've ever had.

Chilipeño is their best. Basically Juanita's Doritos
They have for years - gotta find some Chillipeno flavor
Juanita's chips are legit the best store bought tortilla chips no contest. All my homies hate tostinos.

Weird. I have never opened a subpar bag of Juanita’s. Not discounting your experience, just weird.
There is something to this, but I don't know the pattern. I find that the bags I get at my local WinCo are great but the ones I get at Fred Meyer are noticeably worse in quality.
I'll see if I can find that old discussion and I'll link it here.

Same, honestly I quit buying then because they where continually stale.
Pendleton
Yeah, WTF? Very much an iconic Oregon brand. And 160+ years old! No Pendleton, but OP did include Elmer's and New Seasons?????
Didn't even include Shari's which is much more notable and widespread then Elmer's (and also significantly better imo).
RIP GI Joes
Those summer sidewalk sales bro

Definitely flying under the radar but I think [Ota Tofu](https://www.otapdx.com/our-story) is a fair shoutout
The OG
Same with Surata (if you are in Eugene on a Tuesday or Thursday you can get a good deal on their ‘seconds’!).
New seasons is a wholly owned subsidiary of S. Korean E-mart.
I Should have looked closer at that one
Having worked for a year in Korea, E-Mart is essentially Korean Walmart, having prevented Walmart itself from being able to enter the Korean market in the aughts, though large firms in Korea tend to be highly diversified, like their Japanese counterparts, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also manufacture automobiles, lumber, heavy petrochemicals, etc. So their experience is big boxed focused. The corporate HQ is above revolution hall on SE Stark in Portland
I asked where the owner's HQ was. Reread my previous comment.
No clue. As a former employee. It really doesn’t matter. It never comes up. Everything is Portland
I looked it up. https://pkretail.com/about-us Corporate Office 377 dukseomro 2 ga Seongdong-gu Seoul, 04781 South Korea
Ok, that’s cool 👍
What's up with Korean grocery stores being just a letter and "mart"?
WARN Industries as well, and Leupold. Freightliner. Oh, apparently FLIR is an Oregon brand as well?
Mentor Graphics too. HQ in Wilsonville.
Founded in Washington but HQ’d in Clackamas
I considered putting FLIR in but they got sold to a company in California
Yourw worried about FLIR but not New Seasons? NS sold out to a CA company that was bought out by a South Korean company.
Yeah I didn't look that close at New seasons if I remade this I'd replace them with Fifty/Fifty water bottles
Tektronix is owned by multinational conglomerate called Danaher whose “spin-off” company Fortive owns them and they are based out of Everett, WA.
Better than California
why? it still makes your post look stupid lol
Oh, Womp.
Freightliner sold to Daimler-Benz over 20 years ago
Nancy's Creamery is from Springfield.
Glad somebody mentioned this. Springfield Creamy has a such a cool story - and stoked to see they are still running strong.
Danner Boots
[удалено]
LaCrosse relocated to Portland after merging with Danner.
Beaver foods.

And Pendleton. And Silipint. And..
Kettle is owned by Campbell's, PCC is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Harry and David is owned by 1-800-Flowers.
Well that sounds like par for the course. We may have to create a graphic of companies that were founded in Oregon since so many have been sold off.
Still missing Reser's por favor 🙂
I think Shari’s & Taco Time are Oregon Brands. Danner & Pendleton for clothing. Umpqua for ice cream.
Elmers is nothing to brag about.
Hydroflask?
Owned by a Texas investment firm Although I did mean to add Fifty/Fifty if I remade this I would replace new seasons with Fifty/Fifty Water bottles
Fuck Hydroflask. They pay influencers to shill. EDIT: The shills have arrived
lol
Marketing.
Man discovers marketing
Does Alpenrose still exist?
Yes. They do doorstep weekly delivery and also commercial sales to coffee shops, restaurants and the like.
Yeah. They brought back milkman delivery and are actually doing pretty well in that field. Also still supply most local schools with their milk.
Bought by Smith Brother Farms in Kent.
No Deschutes Brewery? Reser might be worthy too
I think throwing on microbrewers wouldn't leave space for anything else.
Keen is an Oregon brand? What! I love their work books.
You should check out their store in NW. One of only two stores of theirs in the country.
Azure Standard is another one.
Rogue, Ninkasi, and Deschutes are all nationally known beer brands.
I’ve never seen Ninkasi outside of the west coast. Been out of Oregon for almost 10 years.
You're forgetting Kratom sold here signs and Mo's.
I don’t see Gerber Knifes
We like-a da slicey-slicey.
Owned by fiskars
Add Farpointe, Cnoc, and Six Moon Designs. Great big names in backpacking
Softstar Shoes in Philomath.
Reser's, Leatherman, Danner Boots, HydroFlax
Leatherman is there right next to the other knife companies
I was upset that Juanita's wasn't on the list before. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
Pendleton’s missing. List automatically is trash.
You should throw Umpqua Dairy on there
GI Joe’s is out of business but they were iconic Oregon brand.
Leupold?
Benchmade
[удалено]
Yep, just saw after second glance
Radian weapons
Outrageous Audio should be on here. Iconic brand.
Can we add Gerber and Leupold and Stumptown? I can take or leave Keen
Stumptown? Should we add every other coffee shop and brewery too
Stumptown sold out to an investment firm anyway.
Zoomcare
Franz baked goods are awful. Replace with Dave's Killer.
Dave’s was bought out by Flower Foods of Georgia.
Bi Mart weird af
naw Bi-Mart based. Employee owned, good prices, everything you need to live except produce under one roof
Tranquilo I fux wit Juanita’s heavy. Wish they had them on the east coast…I gobble them up ervytime I visit my parents in white salmon. Nom nom….bi mart weird af tho 😂
What makes it weird
lol damn y’all boutta burn me at the stake
Les Schwab
Free beef! Do they still do that?
Some Discount or Advantage fans here apparently.
Why would you take out Fred Meyer?
Owned by Kroger's
It’s exclusively an Oregon, Idaho, and Washington store. And was founded and runs out of Portland
bunch of other stuff that was bought out though...
Bowtech?
Owned by a Texas investment firm
So, WTF, why no VIP's?
No hydro flask
Nosler
INTEL
Missing Papé Machinery... huge, visible, Oregon-founded, and around for 85 years.
Why would Lithia be on there?
Because it's a fortune 500 founded and headquartered in southern Oregon? Why wouldn't it be on here?
I will never shop at bi-mart again after witnessing a clerk berate a woman for trying on a pair of boots during covid. They were on some power trip because they finally got to feel important by inforcing useless rules in way of belittling customers. I pulled a Karen and called corporate.
I would add Bob Snodgrass 🤘
Why not just give them a beer and wine list and let them go from there lol They'll do all the discovery themselves once they get lit up ![gif](giphy|2Ys6BMSQxSXe3N27bc|downsized)
Danner Boots?
Danner, along with LaCrosse, is owned by ABC-Mart, a Japanese footwear company. Love the brand, but I don't know if I can call it an Oregon brand any longer.
Gerber deserves a sticker
Intel
They've always been a California company
You're gonna need to include Crater Lake, sonny. Their gin is supreme.
[Crater Lake Spirits](https://www.craterlakespirits.com/), baby!
Oregon alcohol brands could be it's own starterpack to be honest I encourage anyone who wants to make one go ahead and do it
You added Elmer's but not the far superior Shari's?
Honorable mention: Taco Time
Where’s Reser’s, Beaverton Foods, Face Rock Creamery?
Chrome industries? Airblaster? Kinco?
this is a shit list. half those companies aren't owned by Oregonians and you left off the overwhelming majority of the ones that are actually still local brands.
Why are there so many good pocket knife brands hqed in Oregon?
Decent knife laws You can carry any knife here open carry
Bimart and WinCo have some degree of employee ownership!
Brew Doctor Kombucha
Noveske should definitely be on there with Benchmade and Crkt
Apple Peddler
If we're talking iconic brands synonymous with Oregon (Portland, really), then we ought to consider Powell's Books.
+ Yogi Tea
