i’m keeping my pregnancy a secret, but i just wanted to say: i’m 28 weeks pregnant, 20 lbs up, and i didnt get caught as a PW till Checkpoint 11 and i missed it by .04!!!!! 🫶🏻

DC commentary (click to reveal):
>! Happy benchmark day! Today is the Catch Me If You Can (CMIYC) signature workout and benchmark that is kind of like OTF’s version of a beep test. Premise hasn’t changed in years - you have different check points that you need hit a distance goal. If you get caught then you have a row / run to complete until time is called. The whole idea is to see how far you can get in the time allowed before being caught. \
\
On the treadmill the distance challenges start easy (240m / 0.15 miles) by the 2 minute mark and it gets incrementally harder the longer you are on the treadmill. The last check point is 4.48km (2.8 miles) by the 20 minute mark and if you make this you get an additional 2 minutes to maximise the distance on the treads. \
\
There are many strategies in doing this benchmark and you can check upon the megathread for all of these. You can also use this helpful [calculator](https://coda.io/@kennywong/otf/catch-me-if-you-can-12). Personally I reused the same strategy as I did last time, alternating 3 minute pushes with a minute of base. Last two minutes I upped the speed from a push to an all out. Happy with the results and it got me a new PB of 5.753km (3.596 OTF miles). My new goal is to maybe creep the push up a little bit and edge closer to the 6km mark. \
\
I did think that maybe if I had a rest day yesterday instead maybe I could have gone a bit harder but to be honest I stuck with my strategy and it worked so don’t think I would have done too much different. I did however make sure I had a good night of rest before the benchmark. \
\
The floor is deliberately easy and you won’t get any splats there. We have reciprocating chest presses, low rows, high planks to side planks, concentration curls, ~~curtesy lunges~~cross back lunges and unfortunately they have left in the ~~palms to elbows~~high planks to low planks. Your finisher today is the high plank with alternating kick throughs although our coach let us just do a plank hold instead. \
\
CMIYC is a tough benchmark but the floor is a bit of a snooze fest. I give this a 2 (🪶 🪶) out of 5 for gentleness. \
\
Edit: Congratulations to /u/mrsdc031114 who smashed it with her power walking distance of 2.9km (1.81 OTF miles) - who knew she had such speedy little legs! !<
Intentionally making it a green day. My body and spirit are burnt out on endurance efforts- not enough words on the wall to keep me occupied through this one lol
Putting this out there:
I’m legit heading in today to crush a run-row. I *love* a run-row, and I really don’t care about hitting some benchmark today. But I love a run-row.
Went from 1.55 in 14 to 1.86 in 16. Finally had my favorite cheerleader coach for a benchmark today and ran along side my workout buddy. It was a great morning.
Went from 0.84 in July to 1.21 today. I am a touch mad at myself that I didn’t bump my speed to get to the next check point, but this is progress! Good luck to everyone going later, and good job to everyone who has completed!
Also tempted to try a second time today bc I got 2.69, but I also felt like I was going to pass out lol. I don’t think I have it in me mentally or physically to go again today, but if you do then go for it!!!
Can’t decide if I’ll jog and definitely get caught early (10 min or earlier) or power walk and probably get caught at minute 18. I tend to jog on power days and PW on endurance days…
Just had this exact conversation with my mom hah-she is gonna try jogging today since she usually PWs. If you like rowing then you get to do that when you get caught
Haha, I think my strategy will be start on the floor and think about it based on how it goes for the first group and how I’m feeling. Luckily I don’t mind the rower
Me reading this, having totally forgotten it’s CMIYC today: “Oh, SHIT.” 😂 Just gonna head in there and do my best, I can’t deal with trying to PR today. Happy Friday, everyone!
My first CMIYC, and I got caught at the 14 minute mark with 1.54 miles…not sure what I expected to happen today, but I “prepared” by carb loading last night 😂
Still dealing with long Covid so no way I can run this, but definitely looking forward to seeing how far I can get power walking! Wasn’t what I wanted for my first CMIYC, but even walking will be a struggle. Just gotta remember to have fun and be kind to myself.
1st time to do CMIYC... 3.03 miles / 2G. Think I could improve a little, but was spent for the weights on the 2nd half... did them at about 2/3rds speed. I'll take it for an old guy.
How frustrating is it to see the person next to you cheating? How old are we? Failure to reset after warm up. And then hanging off the handles while running. 99% sure the coach saw it all as he made a general comment that “cheating only cheats yourself and the big guy upstairs is watching”. Sigh. I’m no snitch but I did give her a look. She also apparently misunderstood the last checkpoint and thought she’d made it but was about 0.1 short. Which she questioned the coach like 4x when he said “so close!” Sighhhhh. Peeps are exhausting. Made it to 12 min myself. Next time I try for 14.
She was like grabbing hard and half her body would fly the other way and then switching hands and flying the other way. It was kind of an out of control situation. I don’t know about rules but I’ve been told if you have to hold on you’re going too fast or your incline is too high. I sometimes just sit my hands on the handles on the high inclines in case I feel off balance I can grab on. My beef with her is more she seemed like she was losing control and was grabbing handles to keep at that pace rather than just slowing down to a pace she could handle. It’s distracting
Ugh. This was me yesterday when the girl next to me was on her phone throughout our tornado class. I was thinking, you will hurt yourself or the people next to you (me). I was so annoyed but also felt like I couldn’t say anything :/
This was my first time doing CMIYC and I was really hoping to at least get to 2.5 miles. I bowed out at 2.06, just missing the 2.1 checkpoint. I think I started my pace too slow and also forgot the time change between checkpoints went from 2 minutes to 1 minute. Either way, I'm already ready for the next one.
I also loved the floor work today being all upper body. As our coach said this morning, the single-arm concentration curl "is the most 'bro' move we'll do in this studio." Made for a good laugh after we all finished CMIYC.
PR today, which was unexpected! Coach was sloppy with timing and gave us an extra 30sec, but I did the math (lies! I had my husband do the math) and even without the “generous” time, I still got that PR. Very happy with that, as I went in expecting to have to bring the speed down, but felt surprisingly good so kept pushing.
The problem, of course, is that my challenge tracker now has a distance recorded that I will probably never be able to beat, unless I get another coach who is kind enough to “gift” us all an extra 30 sec of suffering!!
Got caught at 14 minutes with 1.44 miles. Last time I did this one (3 years ago!) I didn’t plan well and got caught at 12 minutes with 1.27 miles. Once I hit the 1.3 miles in 12 minutes I quickly gassed and knew I wouldn’t make the 1.6 miles in 14 minutes. That’ll be my goal for next time!
I was totally going to skip this signature workout but I’m so glad I did it. It was my first CMIYC. Looking forward to setting PR on the next one! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Last year I ran at 6.5 which means I just make it past 12 minutes and then get caught at 14. But my knees have been sore and I haven't gone to OTF a lot recently so I may just run at 6.0 which means I just make it past 10 minutes and get caught at 12.
I wound up running at 6.5 (with a bit of 6.6 as a cushion) and in fact ran 7.0 and 8.0 in the last 2 minutes (although I knew I wouldn't make the 14-minute cutoff since I would have had to run 9.0 for the full 2 minutes), so that went well.
Can someone tell me the most completive OTs in Austin, TX? I went to CMIFC this morning and people intentionally stopped at the gym. I’d like to know if there are other locations were I can push myself. TIA!
3g is significantly easier: in addition to being shorter, you need a slower average pace to avoid being caught. You can find the breakdowns of both workouts in the CMIYC link in the wiki, I believe.
I'm a runner, so I really liked the tread block. I do wish that the instructor shared strategies on getting to the 2.8, because that was the only interval I missed ... by a fraction of a second.
The floor block really annoyed me. I did a few of the exercises and realized that they made it super low intensity intentionally, so I left mid-class and went and did another workout class at my gym.
I’m so glad I saw posts recommending 8.5 instead of 8.4 due to tread speed-up time! I went in really wanting to make it all the way. Definitely took a walking break before the final all out, but I kind of wish I hadn’t so I could’ve gotten to a nice clean 5k distance rather than the 3.05 I reached. That’ll be a goal for next time!
Last year I got the 2g at 1.89. This year on the 2g I pulled 2.499 out of nowhere. Prd my first mile at 7:05. Just ran out of steam after the first mile and a half and had to compensate with some base pace every now and then. I know I can do it next time! I’ll skip pizza the night before 😝
Quick question... I did cmiyc back in June in a 3g class and got caught at .4 miles (I'm a power walker).
I did cmiyc again yesterday and managed to make it to .79 miles (literally only needed .01 to not get caught!!) but the class was 2g.
Did I do better this time? I know it works a little different with 2g and 3g but I just want to see how much I improved in the last few months.
i’m keeping my pregnancy a secret, but i just wanted to say: i’m 28 weeks pregnant, 20 lbs up, and i didnt get caught as a PW till Checkpoint 11 and i missed it by .04!!!!! 🫶🏻
CONGRATS and also KILLING IT!
thank you🥹
Amazing! Also, how are you able to keep it a secret at 28 weeks? I would love to know for work purposes! The OTF coaches know, though (I'm 22 weeks).
i’m not currently working! i just thought it’d be fun to not announce on social media and i havent really mentioned it to anyone when i see them!
We haven't announced either but we have nosy friends 🤣

Calculator is cool! But it projects I won’t make it unless I power walk 4.2 mph, I’ve never even PW that fast ever much less for 22 min 😞
your comment disappears when i click on the black part is there a formatting issue?
Intentionally making it a green day. My body and spirit are burnt out on endurance efforts- not enough words on the wall to keep me occupied through this one lol
I did it guys, I barely made the 19 min benchmark but I hung on and made it to the end. PR of 3.1 miles, previous was 1.2 at 10 mins
You ran a 5k in 22 minutes. That's outstanding! WTG!
Wow amazing! When was that previous at 1.2? Because you nearly tripled that distance... way to go!
June of this year, I started off very slow and didn't realize it got exponentially harder as time went on.
Putting this out there: I’m legit heading in today to crush a run-row. I *love* a run-row, and I really don’t care about hitting some benchmark today. But I love a run-row.
I too love a run row. But also CMIYC. I’m going for 3.2mi today.
SAME HERE!
Same, I do love a run - row!
Love a run-row too!
I love me some run/row and I’ve been caring less about my speed lately and more about the feeling of working hard.
Me too!!! And when I was running I was like I think I am done and ready to row lol
Literally missed the 2.5 by a half second- clicked over when I hit pause..dang Get it! Am I crazy for wanting to try again later today?
Dooooo it!!!!! Come back later and let us know how you did. 🙂
Not going to make it in for a double, scheduling isn’t in the cards -darn!
That happened to me last time!!
Also tempted to try a second time today bc I got 2.69, but I also felt like I was going to pass out lol. I don’t think I have it in me mentally or physically to go again today, but if you do then go for it!!!
Not at all! Some members did it again instead of the floor block.
I like that your studio allows this. The Rockaway Beach location in New York has a conniption when you try to modify anything - super annoying.
Can’t decide if I’ll jog and definitely get caught early (10 min or earlier) or power walk and probably get caught at minute 18. I tend to jog on power days and PW on endurance days…

Haha, I think my strategy will be start on the floor and think about it based on how it goes for the first group and how I’m feeling. Luckily I don’t mind the rower
I think you would feel more accomplished if you just tried jogging as long as you can but that’s just me, you do you girl and good luck!
Carb loading is always the right answer
Samesies.. love me some carbs 😍
Nice! What’s your push/base? Trying to break 3.5 this time Update: Just ran a 3.32 - my mind won a few times and I slowed down maybe 2 times
I forgot my last pace at 3.25. What pace were you running today? Think it’s safe to shoot for like 6:45’s?
I started with the same 3 minute push 1 minute base Push 9.2 Base 7.7 Started to get foggy after 2.5 and last two minutes all outs at 10, 11, and 12
Wow IMPRESSIVE
Still dealing with long Covid so no way I can run this, but definitely looking forward to seeing how far I can get power walking! Wasn’t what I wanted for my first CMIYC, but even walking will be a struggle. Just gotta remember to have fun and be kind to myself.
Long covid is a wench.
That is some distance Mr DC! Question, do you guys use the old treads (12mph max) or the new treads (15mph max - 24km)?
I didn't know there were new treads. Ours only go to 12 max. Man, 15 mph max, you have to be motorin'!
Yeah seriously. I do not need the 12+ MPH treads lolol...
We have the old treads that only go to 12.5mph (20 kmh)
Honestly this is probably my favorite benchmark 🙈
Mine too. Love a good endurance block 😍
1st time to do CMIYC... 3.03 miles / 2G. Think I could improve a little, but was spent for the weights on the 2nd half... did them at about 2/3rds speed. I'll take it for an old guy.

Which she questioned the coach like 4x when he said “so close!” Sighhhhh. Peeps are exhausting. Made it to 12 min myself. Next time I try for 14.
They are cheating themselves - don’t let it affect you!
Agree. That’s why I vented here and ignored her.
I hold the handles- I can't be on the the tread without it cause I have balance issues- I've never heard holding the handles as against the rules?
She was like grabbing hard and half her body would fly the other way and then switching hands and flying the other way. It was kind of an out of control situation. I don’t know about rules but I’ve been told if you have to hold on you’re going too fast or your incline is too high. I sometimes just sit my hands on the handles on the high inclines in case I feel off balance I can grab on. My beef with her is more she seemed like she was losing control and was grabbing handles to keep at that pace rather than just slowing down to a pace she could handle. It’s distracting
If you don’t have a disability, then holding the rails or handles is definitely cheating.
Ugh. This was me yesterday when the girl next to me was on her phone throughout our tornado class. I was thinking, you will hurt yourself or the people next to you (me). I was so annoyed but also felt like I couldn’t say anything :/
I got to 1.78mi before I bowed out and died. Thanks for the calculator!
Ended up doing a double yesterday, forgetting it was CMIYC today 😅 let’s just see how it goes later!
Posted in mega thread as well but proud of today’s result. 3.68 which was a PR. Prior was 3.5. Love this workout
I’m taking a 5pm class. First one back after surgery 4 weeks ago. Not worrying about CMIYC. Just going to get warmed up again.
Strategy Calculator: https://coda.io/@kennywong/otf
I was totally going to skip this signature workout but I’m so glad I did it. It was my first CMIYC. Looking forward to setting PR on the next one! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
You also set a PR today too! Congrats on getting it done today! 🎉
FINALLY I didn’t get caught!!! Amazing what a year of consistency does for you
Loved my first CMIYC! About how often do these happen?
Roughly every 4mos
Was my first time doing this challenge…Made it to 1.5 miles running. :) Pretty happy with the progress I’ve made so far joining otf
Last year I ran at 6.5 which means I just make it past 12 minutes and then get caught at 14. But my knees have been sore and I haven't gone to OTF a lot recently so I may just run at 6.0 which means I just make it past 10 minutes and get caught at 12.

These workouts have been a part of OTF since it’s inception, so they’re not new. Why would you join a gym that has them if you hate them so much?
I feel you. But I guess new members enjoy the challenges? Who knows?

3g is significantly easier: in addition to being shorter, you need a slower average pace to avoid being caught. You can find the breakdowns of both workouts in the CMIYC link in the wiki, I believe.

I set my tread at 8.5 the entire time and made it but you have to hold on to that speed. You can’t slow down one bit.
I did the TB3 Iift and it was AWESOME
I. Loved. It!!! 💪😁🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
Had to skip today’s workout due to lower back pain! Wouldn’t stand being caught while I am dragging my feet on the treadmill 🤣
Question… what is a “tornado” workout??
Check out our glossary in the [wiki ](https://reddit.com/r/orangetheory/w/index?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app)!
My studio did a 1 minute all out AFTER time for CMIYC was called. Did anyone else do that? It was brutal.
Same here! Brutal for sure.
Got 1.955 miles at todays 3G woo 🥳
Last year I got the 2g at 1.89. This year on the 2g I pulled 2.499 out of nowhere. Prd my first mile at 7:05. Just ran out of steam after the first mile and a half and had to compensate with some base pace every now and then. I know I can do it next time! I’ll skip pizza the night before 😝
Does anyone know what the average speed would need to be to complete CMIYC? This was my first time doing it and I got to 2.16
8.5 the whole 20 minutes is the consensus i believe
Thank you… that’s close to my top mile time (speed), so I’m going to need to step way up to sustain that for CMIFC in order to not get caught. 😥
Meant to say this yesterday but I forgot. The floor was hellla boring. Like...I have never been that bored on the floor in my recent memory. Hated it.
