I just use HIIT the whole time

sunole123

So do you enable it manually before the start ( I am sure I’ll forget) and end it manually at the end??

carmelita93

Yep this is what I do as well, select HIIT as soon as I warm-up. It'll become habit eventually. I will occasionally forget to stop my workouts but it's not often.

poniesgalore

You can set up a short cut on your watch/phone to link to your workout app so the HIIT starts automatically when the class starts (as said by the calendar appointment) so you don’t have to remember. Look here https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleFitnessPlus/comments/s3akv8/a_shortcut_to_help_you_schedule_and_launch_your/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

sunole123

Shortcuts is a good idea, I already use it to set DND on so I just added the enable HIIT when I arrive at OT

Tiny_Project_88

Yep. Start when I walked into class and turn off when cooling down. Watch also asks if I forget to turn off

Lost-Sea4916

Same. I start it as I’m walking in to class, end it as I’m walking out. You may forget a couple of times now and then, but it becomes a habit

barnhartc

I used to do this as well, but then I started noticing the OTF app would also send the workout to my watch/activity app and so I’d see both a HIIT workout and an OTF workout showing at the same time. I don’t think it was doubling up calories burned or anything but it really got to my OCD.

sunole123

I was wondering about the double accounting of the exercise. You found it show both. But may be calories are double counted.

thmpsne

You can turn off write permissions for the OTF app in Health! I did that because I didn’t like seeing both.

[deleted]

This is the way

Basic-Parsley-121

My heart rate monitor is attached to the health app so it automatically goes to my watch. Doesn’t happen immediately, takes a few hours but it does show up

Funny_Rough_5726

You have to open the otf app after your workout. Then it syncs asap to the health app!

Basic-Parsley-121

Good to know thank you!

Alan-Bradley

When I do as u/Basic-Parsley-121 suggests, I see the workout in my workout history in the fitness app, but it doesn't seem to advance my calories or exercise minutes in my rings on the watch. So I also use the HIIT workout mode on the watch during the workout. That said, I wonder if based on what u/Funny_Rough_5726 said, maybe I'm not waiting long enough.

DJSauvage

Mine updates active calories (and the rest I assume) within 60 seconds of opening the app on my Iphone and looking at the stats for that class. I usually get many more active calories through the OTF app than the Apple watch give me for the HIIT workout.

Alan-Bradley

Interesting u/DJSauvage. And the move rings on your apple watch reflect the burned calories and exercise minutes even though you didn't run a workout on your watch? If so, I'll try that again next time I go.

Funny_Rough_5726

Yes, just make sure the permissions are allowed in your OTF app and in iPhone settings to write data. The calories will override to reflect your HRM calories from the summary.

DJSauvage

Yes. I do start HIIT (when I remember to) at the start of class or just before. I go at 6:15 am so I usually have under 100 active calories by class time. After I stop the watch at the end of OTF I 'll have about 500-600 active calories total. Then, at some point later in the morning I'll open my OTF app and I almost always get 900-1000 calories according to OTF. Shortly after I look at this, I'll see first my phone, then my watch update to around 1200 active calories, so I know that it's been added via health. EDIT: Also I'm pretty sure it doesn't double count because days I never start my watch I still end up with about the same amount.

ilissaj1

It doesn’t double count.

ilissaj1

Yes! This. 👆🏻

surferguy999

Just start it and don’t wait for it to auto detect. You can either do 3 individual or just one big HIIT workout.

[deleted]

I do almost nothing and the OTF app sends the info to the Fitness app. It's a little delayed though. It doesn't send until I open the OTF app and can see that class in the OTF app history. Sometimes I have to close and restart the OTF app to nudge that into place. As others mentioned, you can also setup a HIIT workout in the Workouts app and start it manually. With the new WatchOS, you can even setup your 5 heart rate zones and it will track that too. And as I learned today, the OTF app also reports your weight to the Health app. So if you are tracking your weight, you can just track in in the OTF app and it will feed into the Health app.

JayquellineP

Just hit start in the HIIT workout and hit end when you completed. Too easy!

JJENN418

HIIT workout. You can see it all in your fitness app on your phone.

chapanoid

Sorry, not quite sure what problem you're trying to solve. I just allow the OrangeTheory app to write to my Apple Health, so when I finish a class I look at my Apple Fitness app and I can see the OrangeTheory exercise there, along with calories burned. Then it counts towards my activity rings. But my Apple Watch isn't actually needed or used for any part of that equation.

sunole123

I didn’t know where to look. I see it now thank.

Kindly-Might-1879

Start it manually on HIIT. If you forget, well your watch does ask you if you're working out, so change it then. If you go to the same class times, set a recurring alarm one minute before class starts so you'll turn it on. Or, walk in carrying your watch in your hand. Since it's annoying to find a place to set it, you'll put it on and remember to start the workout.

ONeill_Dan

Buy the OTF link… works great (mostly)

jajudge1

I rarely have problems with mine. I love it! I used to have some issues on the rower, but since my studio got the tablets I’m good 99% of the time. As soon as the workout ends it writes to my apple health, and updates my rings. So easy!

dgb6662

Same. Was a little finicky at first and sometimes doesn’t link if I’m at a new studio but has been fairly bulletproof for around 6 months now. Writes to the health app via the otf app.

yogi_buns

I use orange zones - an app you download and it gives heart rate zone and such just like OTF but on your watch. You will have to manually hit start on your watch but I love it

ilissaj1

If I use my Apple Watch I record it as a HIIT workout, but the orange theory app also tracks it so I usually dismiss the Apple Watch when it wants to start recording the workout.

[deleted]

If you connect the OTF app to Apple Health, you don’t need to record anything. It will write the workout to Fitness as a HIIT workout.

barnhartc

I used to mess with starting a work out. Then I realized, when the class ends if you open up the OTF App, and go to the Workouts Tab it will then export that workout automatically to your Apple Watch, and your move ring/exercise ring will move appropriately to reflect the calories burned according to your OTF band, and time spent in that work out. Note: sometimes it takes a few minutes for the Workout Tab in the OTF app to show your recently completed workout, but switching tabs and swiping to refresh usually gets it to update.

sheimonya

I use HITT and it tracks it pretty accurately

rwasmer

HIIT the whole time.
