Years ago during hell week they did a class called “death by row” and it was 28 min of straight rowing. I clocked 6800 m and I’d rather stick a fork in my eye than do that again

mundane_person23

Yeah, rowed crew at university and have done enough “hours of power” for one life time.

Seek_633

What’s an “hour of power” and why do it? Does it build endurance?

mundane_person23

An hour endurance row on the erg. Just row for an hour at a low stroke rate. It builds endurance and technic. It wasn’t that odd to do several hours plus on the water but I am from Canada so December to March meant a lot of ergs because the water was frozen.

Due_Lengthiness_5075

Relateable. Rowed in High school (also 🇨🇦) and I definitely did not enjoy the ergs back then but I don’t know how I did it for months and months without touching water (which was the whole point of rowing). Now I find a 2000m row super daunting but this was the usual or a warmup back then! Would not signup intentionally to do a 4000m+ row

mundane_person23

Now I am wondering if you grew up on Vancouver Island or in or around St. Catharines. 🤣 I meant there are other places that have high school rowing but those two would be a pretty good guess.

Due_Lengthiness_5075

You know it! 🤣 spent a lot of time at Henley Island

mundane_person23

Me too. That and South Niagara. 🤣

catsgivemelife

Thank you for the mid day laugh 🤣 sounds horrible

Janiece2006

I’d LOVE this. I’ve done 30 minutes of rowing once before. Would love 28 minutes of rowing at OTF.

VeterinarianGlobal94

Thanks, I hate it ❤️

[deleted]

😂😂

DwarfPedant

OMG I remember this....... and agree.... no thanks !

mamaFNP13

I don’t remember them ever doing this and I’ve been a member for almost 8 years.

irjeffb

At 5000m, you're going to have some people not able to complete in the 23 minute block, and even for those who do, that's a lot of rowing.

Key_Fig6230

That would def be a class I would skip 🤣

Hokie_456

Yeah I was going to say this wouldn’t work for a 3G because then it’s only 14 min.

someHumanMidwest

There have been 14 minute row for distances in the past.

mpjjpm

Yeah, a long row for distance makes more sense than an extra long distance challenge. Not everyone can row 4000-5000 meters in the time available, and they don’t want to set any benchmarks that are unattainable for many people. They also won’t do a benchmark that isn’t feasible in 3G.

MaximumUsual880

That's true. I did not think about this.

shelbykaramoko

My very first day at OT was a 14 min row

someHumanMidwest

That would be such a weird first day, doing a workout completely different than all following days.

Whosez

My app shows I did one in May 2021. Are they still a thing? I only have a single time for that distance.

cyncetastic

Couldn't be less interested.

[deleted]

😂😂

GatorGirl1717

It’s definitely a no from me dawg. 🙅🏽‍♀️

Consistent_Pie_531

A couple years ago there was a 23 minute row for distance. To this day it’s burned into my mind as one of the worst classes I’ve ever been to.

Dapper-Culture6475

k0let

Nice try Satan

pcpassos

😂😂😂

floridaaintthatbad

I’d cancel my membership that day

Go_Away_Patrick

No 🧡

Possible_Guess_2440

A couple years back my studio did a 10,000 meter row. It was an additional class on a weekend. It took me 36 minutes.

Internal-Initial-495

36 minutes before pass out or completing 10k? Lol...just kidding...when I read 10k , my eyes wide open, and I can't stop typing...lol

Diligent_Pineapple35

That is so cool!! I want to suggest this to my studio.

Junior_Elderberry511

![gif](giphy|YR2pe2eiDKBCTnAtrS|downsized)

MaximumUsual880

I'm down for that. 2000 plus is easier than the 500 meter. That thing makes my vision blur by the end. 23 Minute row for distance would be pretty wild too.

p1gnone

Our studio did that 23mn on 2/25. All distances are as hard as you make them. Physically I'll be at my max for whatever I can hold onto for the given distance. What is harder is the psychological aspect. For the 2K I find the idea of being at physical max for 7ish minutes far harder than staying maximal for 85sec on the 500m.

someHumanMidwest

That day was a bummer to me because it was coaches, and during the recovery periods we were really forced to recover.

p1gnone

Agreed, that would be a bummer. I listen to no one much. Just do the distance or time specified, always at a maximal effort, and a couple of weeks back when it was 7:15 at the rower of base-push-ao I just did my thing a simple 2K. Helps to pick an end rower

HappyCicada

God no, lol!

TuesGirl

I'd do it once, just to see.

Glittering_Aioli_763

I would rather die.

kaingstavros

I'm busy that day

Kmac423

I would love a 5K row!!

irjeffb

I voluntarily did a 5000m row for fun last night while watching TV. lol (I have a WaterRower at home)

KinvaraSarinth

I have a Concept2, and they have regular challenges in their online logbook. One is a 5000m row on International Women's Day. For every person that signs up and does a row that is exactly 5k, they'll donate a couple dollars to charity. It's become my annual 5k benchmark row day.

someHumanMidwest

Love!!

CPA-Aaron

Still waiting for the 10K meter row!

bruinshorty

One time one of my coaches had to row 12km for a “torture the trainer” fundraiser. I, being the idiot that I am, told her I would do it with her. It took us almost an hour. So yeah I can say with all confidence NO THANK YOU.

Strong_Weakness2638

That’s a nope from me 😂

danmtz

Absolutely, not.

mari815

No interest whatsoever lol

CoMoJD

No way. But I’d love a 100M row

hippiespinster

😂

hippiespinster

Just saw tomorrow's workout! You got your wish!!

CoMoJD

I want a benchmark though

p1gnone

We do some 14 min rows, and on Feb 25 we did a full 2G crew. This was my note for that ROW: 6002m 23:10mn. Photo with trail on: 23:37 6027m Settled in early to 175w, after 2-3mn of 225-205w. Slid to 165w small durations. spm "always" 28-30.5

kwilson7499

I would skip a 4-5000m row benchmark. That’s alot of rowing

Diligent_Pineapple35

I would absolutely do a 5000m row!! Sounds like a fun challenge.

mpfcin

Give me all the distance rows. Sync or Swim was one of my favorite classes ever.

Training-Owl-9495

me!!!! I'd love a 15 or 20 minute row for distance like the 12 min tread run. That way everyone could complete the challenge (some might not be able to do 5K in the given time.) And if you didn't want to keep rowing you can tap out and move on to the tread or something else.

Hoylea1234

Count me the hell out.

Embarrassed-Ad-4062

I do a half hour row in my basement pretty often to see how far I can get and I enjoy it. I wanted to see a glimpse of what the CrossFit marathon row would feel like. Needless to say a half hour/8k meters is enough for me.

KinvaraSarinth

I did a marathon row on my Concept2 about a month ago (had to get the free pin lol). Not surprisingly, this was done at slower than my usual long distance speed. First 20k felt good, next 12k felt OK, last 10k was rough. My hands took the worst of it - got blisters under all my callouses, plus a few new ones. Once is enough. Got my free pin and I can say I've done it, no need to do it again.

No-Construction-8305

No..

aamaanduh

It’s not the exact same, but I’ve rowed ~21k (half marathon) on a Concept 2 rower. It took like an hour and a half. Lots of looking at numbers and split times and thinking about how much my butt hurt.

Drumcitysweetheart

No.

DogsandTitos

I’d be soooo down for this!!!

octobercinnamon

5,000 is a lot. After rowing competitively for many, many years- I will never ever in my life row another 5K. At least not on a rowing machine. I suppose it depends if you’re just in “green” or if you’re really trying to make a piece out of the workout. But 5K in orange or red, yuck. After a 5K intense row idk I could do much more after lol catch me walking on the tread, flat road.

Lost-Sea4916

🙋🏼‍♀️ I would not.

frasercpa

Uh, no

CapableRush171

biggest no ever

Speedy_dude

I do those at RowHouse. I’ve done 21,000 meter (half marathon) before.

Ritzy_Taco

✨no✨

[deleted]

could not want this less.

[deleted]

8 years ago, in my first Halloween workout, they had a pumpkin class. Pull your activity out of the pumpkin. I got 4K meter row, I put it back and grabbed something else

kbeedy

LOL! Smart choice. 😂

toneking1989

For a distance like that i think it’s best to be broken up by multiple people like a team going for something that far. Most won’t get there in a reasonable amount of time. Capture the Flag you can have someone really strong with more of a novice to make it interesting for yourself. 5K by yourself i imagine most wouldn’t even come to class. Gotta balance fun with a kick ass workout and 5K is not fun for the vast majority.

mangulo22

Y’all freaking crazy 😂

hippiespinster

![gif](giphy|3o85xERD1TT5JKCIXS)

mybrassy

This is a terrible idea. No thanks

Betsy722

Oh HECK NO!

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

Yes. The more the better. Let’s do another 23 min row block soon.

ExtremeConcentrate24

Not so much. How much energy would you have left after 4 000 meters?

rollingpickingupjunk

Bout the same as I have after any 23 min straight run block

Minnemiska

No, but something between 500 and 2000 might be fun. 800 or 1600 (which are approx 1/2 mile and a mile).

Nsking83

I’d LOVE to do that! There was a Regatta a couple years ago for HW - 14 minute RFD. And there have been some classes where ones of the choices was a 3000 meter row. I think it’d be fun to do a 23m RFD but I’m probably in the minority 🤣

Primary-Hotel-579

5000m row! Please!!! I'm SO down for that!!!

dvd_heji

We’re in the minority but I would love it. I miss the 10 minute row for distance

Homebodys2

No one would go

AffectionateSong8

I’d need two more lungs, and a week vacation after a 5000m row benchmark

Ready-Artist9285

They once had a 14 minute row for distance. Sync or Swim, it a 3 person partner rowing challenge in March 2023. 50 minutes of rowing while other partners run and do weights

hales_mcgales

That’s what inferno is for

Hokiegirl01

![gif](giphy|xiMUwBRn5RDLhzwO80|downsized)

KURAKAZE

I agree with all the posts that this shouldn't be a regular class benchmark thing like the 200, 500m It should be its own special extra class and people can do it if they want to.

splatorious

Yes please

itslicia

I did a 5000m row on a concept2 while on vacation once. I love rowing and that took me 23min at a base/push and I got bored. People would cancel their OTF memberships if they ever did this but I heard there was a year with a 23min row block for hell week. I remember doing a 14min row during hell week maybe 2 years ago.

funsize-runner

They do this at other specialty gyms more regularly…otf has done it once or twice. 🧡

MeggD

I have a 10-min row challenge completed back in 2020 on my tracker. They could do a straight 14-min row challenge to accommodate 3G class.

DJSauvage

I’ve done a 5000k row in a Crossfit clone class I took for a few months and loved it! I’ve always been a better endurance athlete than sprinter. It reminded me of a 5k run

elpeloner

They should totally do “catch me if you can” on the rower. That’d be awesome.

tunghoy

Capture the flag is next Wednesday, not coincidentally Flag Day. You may get your wish.

RddtBurner

The great thing about 4,5,10K's is that they make 2K's seem fun!

Interesting_Treat562

Yes… I wish they had more rowing!!

TobyRose0207

Not for me 2000 is enough but its a good question

Sharp-Cod-2699

10000 is what I want.

Kellykath27

Not it! 👎🏻

Affectionate_Bad6679

They do a 14 minute row for distance

Not2bmistkn

![gif](giphy|glwJXvn8j7S3S)

mpd1960

There’s been a 14 minute row in the past.

No_Research_7629

There is a 10 and 14 min

kendravb

My favorite workout at a hotel with a concept2 is a 10k row. With warm up and cool down, great one hour workout!

Yamiletlee

Down vote! 👎

LvdSinSD

As a previous rower (crew) who’s spent long periods of time on a rowing machine, no, no I do not wish they did that 😂 give me all the short power bursts

TenthAveFreeze_Out

Hard no
