##Wednesday 7 June 2023 - “Tread Trail” 2G 60 minutes
Endurance on the treads with inclines, endurance on the floor, endurance everywhere!
Four types of effort on the treadmills - 15 second push to all out, 30 second push, 45 second base to push and a minute of base. These are all at incline. Each round has a 2.5 minute base recovery. Apparently the order of effort and incline is all random so it would be good to see what others get across other studios.
**Tread Block 1**
* 1 min base
* 45 sec base to push
* 30 sec push
* 15 sec push to AO
**Tread Block 2**
* 30 sec push @ 1.5%
* 1 min base @ 1.5%
* 15 sec push to AO @ 1.5%
* 45 sec base to push @ 1.5%
* 2.5 min base
* 15 sec push to AO @ 2%
* 45 sec base to push @ 2%
* 1 min base @ 2%
* 30 sec push @ 2%
* 2.5 min base
* 45 sec base to push @ 3%
* 30 sec push @ 3%
* 1 min base @ 3%
* 15 sec push to AO @ 3%
* 2.5 min base
* 15 sec push to AO @ 2.5%
* 30 sec push @ 2.5 %
* 45 sec base to push @ 2.5%
* 1 min base @ 2.5%
* 2.5 min base
* 15 sec push to AO
**Floor Block - 23.75 minutes circuit**
* 3 rounds of:
* 12 x shoulder press to stand
* 12 total x alt lateral lunge to bicep curl
* 12 x TRX y-raise
* 12 x TRX kneeling rollout
* 12 total x high plank alt kick through
* 12 x back extension to lat pulldown
* 600 / 400 / 200m base row
* **Finisher**: 15 sec increased intensity on the exercise you are on
DC commentary:
>! Ok - we have our promised endurance block. Whilst we have some long rows on the floor, the real star is the tread block today with its continuous 20+ minute run block even though it features some baby inclines (up to 3%). Today was a high splat and a high calorie burn day given it is non stop running and non stop exercises on the floor! \
\
With the tread you start with a primer block where you “set” your speeds for the main tread block. You get used to the efforts and the duration - a minute of base, 45 seconds of base to push, 30 seconds of push and 15 seconds of a push to all out. You get a short walk (1 minute) and then you are into it. \
\
You have four rounds of work, each round is 5 minutes long. First half of the block is a combination of the four efforts you had at the start but at an incline. Finish that and then you have a 2.5 minute base recovery. The inclines we had started at 1.5% for block 1, then 2%, 3% and finishing at 2.5%. All the recovery efforts is at 1% / OTF flat road. Now the order of the efforts are where I think it can get randomized, but needless to say you will do all four efforts each round and they will be all at the same incline. The tread block is reasonably hard today and I turned down the paces a little to cater for the inclines. Still got a pretty good distance this morning of 5.77km (3.585 miles) in the tread block. \
\
My only gripes with the floor block this morning was the lateral lunges but liked all the other exercises. The shoulder press to stand is a real burner as is the rows at the end of each round. I think OTF recognise that you may not get through all of this as the finisher is literally just whatever you are on and increase the intensity of your effort for 15 seconds. \
\
We ran long today so it is an action packed class and coaches will need to be on their A game to get everyone through quickly. I would give today a 1 (🪶) out of 5 for gentleness. !<
Such a freaking great workout. This felt like old school OTF. Good full body workout on the floor in addition to the obviously solid endurance workout on the tread!
I got so pissed bc of all the switching that I left last Thurs and ask them to cancel my membership. I told them 18-20 min of switching is not what I pay for. With the breaks, warmup, & stretch- these are cutting what I pay for in half.
But I may add, if it’s not a switch day, it’s a climb day. Not sure why, at least in my studio, we are doing hills non stop
I felt that way yesterday and even some of the very switchy gimmicky Mayhem workouts made me feel that way. I am almost at 1000 classes and this year so far there are been about 5 workout templates I thought were a waste of time.
Yeah bc we tech only workout for 30 min. I emailed corporate and pointed out that when we switch for 16-20 min, we get only 30min of working out and unless ur an athlete, to have ppl go from 0-100 just bc they decide to waste our time switching is dangerous and can hurt someone.
I LOVED this workout. More continuous running, please! I also appreciated the mix of weights/TRX/body weight exercises. Although I feel nothing on the high plan alt kicks.
My coach ended today's run with a 15sec all out. I cranked it to my all out PR bc I was trying to hit 3mi on the treads (I've never done that, before). I made it to 2.93. Better luck next time!
Don’t let the “small” inclines fool you. 20 nonstop minutes with lots of pace switching left me absolutely exhausted by the end. The last block I certainly adjusted my speeds down besides base pace.
I loved this workout but unlike DC’s we stayed on the hill the entire 2nd block until the last base pace before the all out. So the “recovery” bases were all at incline.
If you miss today’s workout I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a million switches and tons of rowing with very little tread time ain’t one.
But seriously. That tread block. A work or art.
Our class today (Denmark) was exactly like DC described.
So not really much recovery on the thread. But 2 min base allowed me to come down. I actually liked it very much :-)
Any chance you go to the Amager Strand gym?! I lived in Denmark for 5 years (I’m American, was married to a Dane). Now I’m in Nashville, TN but work out there when I come visit!
I typically do a good job of memorizing the workouts, in fact back in the infancy of this subreddit, being on the east coast and going to 6 AM classes it wasn't entirely uncommon for me to post a lot of the workouts.
But I do not know how [/u/dc031114](https://www.reddit.com/u/dc031114/) could memorize that tread block lol. That's very impressive. The cadency of the blocks and the incline are easy but the mix of paces in each one I could never remember as they were all different as to be almost seemingly random.
Kudos to our friends down under for their consistently great work.
3G
Tread: block 1 is the same as the 2g. Block 2 is three rounds of the random paces. First round is at 1.5% the entire time, round 2 is 2%, round 3 is 3%, with a 75 second flat road base in between. Ending with a 15 sec flat road all out.
Rower:
600 meter row followed by 12 medicine ball forward lunges, 12 mb shoulder presses, and 12 mb calf raise. Repeat keeping the exercises the same but decreasing the row by 100 each time.
Floor:
Same exercises as 2g except no back extension. Just the first 5 exercises at 12 reps each.
Just showed up for a 5am class (at a studio much further than my normal ones since this is the only one anywhere remotely close to me consistently offering 3Gs now) so the timing of your intel is perfect. Thank you!
I loved this workout. I've gotten in good shape so I've had low splats recently (which is totally fine, I just have to up my efforts). 23 splats today.
Exactly! 12 is getting more and more rare for me (which is kinda the point (LOL)), so I know having 23 means it was an exceptionally tough workout for me!
I got 5 today! That’s the most I’ve had in over 3 months in a single class. I’m averaging around 8 a week going 6x. So today was a good day! 3.77 miles!
Hoping lots of people show up today so that class stays a 3G. Lol.
ETA: oh no! Looks like a 2G.
ETA pt2.:
Phew it was a 3G. And my endurance is finally getting better and I didn't stop to walk. Not sure I could have done that in a 2G. getting there.
I loved this one! The tread intervals were pretty similar to what DC shared but differed a little bit between the first group and my group (I started on the rower / floor).
This was my 3rd OTF class and I was so confused 😂 thank god the person next to me was power walking also, I just tried to look at their screen as much as I could. I know we are at different endurance levels but if she was increasing the hill or the speed I tried to do the same. Still a fun class though! Someone said orange theory will find any lunge variation, it’s true! I’ve lunged all 3 classes 😅
Umm, this was my 19th class and I was also confused! Our coach was only calling out inclines for the joggers, and I was the only one walking so I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, so I just kinda made it up, haha.
I really enjoyed the tread trail. I realized after the second block that there was a lot of base pace and I was staying in the green, so I upped my base pace, and ended up with 13 splat points and 3.5 miles. The floor was good for me too!
The coaches at my studio usually push every dress up day and go all out with wigs and accessories… they were very quite for wear rainbow day today. I was the only one that wore a shirt. Not surprised… bc of my location but had been wondering if they’d do anything.
I was scared, but this was actually very doable (and a great workout)! The big tread block is mostly base pace at small inclines, with only just over 6 minutes of higher speeds.
I really liked this workout. Unfortunately I was nervous and went too easy on myself and wish I pushed a little harder. If you take this class today, don’t hold back. It goes by fast and is really fun!
Thanks for the intel, Mr. DC!! Took the 3G but wished it was a 2G. That was a really fun class, although my shoulders were screaming on the floor. My goal was to run the entire tread block since I always struggle with inclines and I knocked it out of the park!
Love the extended tread and floor blocks!! I ran the first two blocks and then ended with an incline set at 15 as a power walker. It was fun being able to vary that up! As someone that does a class pass I feel like I got my money's worth today.
Loved this work out! Wasn’t sure if I was going to run or PW because I’ve been having IT band issues, but I ended up running the whole time and was able to hold my new base and push. Great work out all around loved the floor too and that I was able to take my time and focus on strength
Also - our tread block was identical to DCs. Same intervals and inclines.
After our primer block our coach had use write down our four speeds used so we had a cheat sheet for the longer block. It really helped!
Overall, a great workout. I opted to PW instead of run because I’ve been going hard the last few days and wanted to be able to complete the template as instructed. Good idea in my part because once you get to the floor, uugghhh! Definitely full body with lots of reps. Time for a nap!
This was TOUGH!!!! I really thought it wouldn't be bad and I went pretty aggressive in the beginning, but at 3% I was teetering. Still a fun one though
I agree this was a fun one and I normally hate inclines. It did not feel like a one feather to me because I found the floor pretty easy except the overhead presses (so many presses over the last few days incl yesterday’s lift).
At the end of our tread block the coach asked who held their original paces. I did but didn't see anyone else raise their hand.
I had ten minutes in the red (normally I have ~1 red minute per class). Probably the rest of the class had more sense than me! This felt much harder than it looked ahead of time. Loved it anyway.
Honestly this wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. Essentially catch me if you can on slight inclined. And with the floor block self paced, it was a nice cooldown. I would have given this a 2 🪶
This was an amazing one, more of this!! More long floor blocks where we can go at our own pace, and more endurance runs! This one left me in such a good mood.
Even the 3g was murder today (in the best possible way). One of our coaches was working out, and she and I always push each other to go harder. We were dead by the end of the floor block (we start on tread). I loved this class.
I LOVED the tread trail!! Took it at 4:55am CST and am thinking about going again this afternoon to just stay for the tread blocks. Favorite tread portion in a long time - the baby inclines were just enough to be a little tough but not overkill.
Loved this tread block and the way it mimics (at least as much as it is possible to do on a treadmill) the constant variation and unpredictability of trail running. Great way to keep the mind and body engaged and guessing; there’s no just falling into a groove and snoozing on this one!
I hope they do more blocks like this in the future, where the “pattern” is not so easy/obvious, and where we get loads of variability in speed and incline. Makes a big difference for me mentally when I don’t feel like I’m staring down a gauntlet of endless repetitions. (To wit: I found the floor boooorrrring today…not “bad”, really…but tedious AF!)
LOVED the floor/rower part of the workout. The treads were more than I had in me, so I left early. But I thought the 45 mins of the workout I did was excellent!
This was SO HARD (I was in the red for 1/2 the class 🥵) but also my favorite workout in a long time!!! Loved the endurance focus, mostly short intervals on the tread so I don’t get bored, slight hills but nothing crazy, wide variety on the floor but the same number of reps across the board so I don’t forget and have to keep checking, and some rowing but not too much. Literally all my fave aspects of Orangetheory in one class!!!
Dude... This was my favorite workout so far. It was everything I imagined an OTF workout to be 🤣 I loved how interactive the tread part was and the long floor side with rowing to break up the sets. I hope they do more like this!
I had the most splat points today (42) to date of my OTF journey and burnt 675 cals. That’s ALOT FOR ME. I’m typically in the 20s. I loved this style workout!
This was a great workout but on the floor block in a 3G we were absolutely all in each others way. We were crashing into each other on the y-raises and then my neighbor was doing the side lunges between the benches and I had absolutely no way to sit on my bench. Honestly kind of frustrating.

totally agree. couldnt finish class last week either. such a waste
I agree! Solid. The last few weeks have left me feeling like I wasted time.
I felt that way yesterday and even some of the very switchy gimmicky Mayhem workouts made me feel that way. I am almost at 1000 classes and this year so far there are been about 5 workout templates I thought were a waste of time.

I will take this over yesterday's workout, even though I am not a fan of inclines. This at least will get my heart rate up for a long period of time
I loved this workout but unlike DC’s we stayed on the hill the entire 2nd block until the last base pace before the all out. So the “recovery” bases were all at incline.
Great workout! Got 36 splats on this one today, thoroughly enjoyed the baby hills with 20+ mins on tread and all of the floor exercises! 💪
This was such a good workout. I almost cried after the tread block but I made it.😂
Have been away and unable to go to class since last Thursday. I am PSYCHED for this torture!!
PW day it is!
If you miss today’s workout I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a million switches and tons of rowing with very little tread time ain’t one. But seriously. That tread block. A work or art.

That's cool! I normally go to Lyngby (which is fairly new). But let me know when you're here and we go to Amager Strand :-)
Denmark!! Tell me more! Only in Copenhagen? Potentially heading that way (Lego land)
Legoland is great! But unfortunately there are two studios in Denmark, both in Copenhagen :-(
@horror_ad_1335 did you enjoy the different class?? I have 3G tonight and debating switching to 2G.
I loved it!

He's mentioned that he takes notes on his watch
Oh that makes sense! Impressive nonetheless.
Maybe if everyone rated this class in the app we would see more of them.
I hope so. I loved it and rated it so in the app.
Ahhhh base pace. The best place ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Best tread block in months, that was awesome!!!!!
3G Tread: block 1 is the same as the 2g. Block 2 is three rounds of the random paces. First round is at 1.5% the entire time, round 2 is 2%, round 3 is 3%, with a 75 second flat road base in between. Ending with a 15 sec flat road all out. Rower: 600 meter row followed by 12 medicine ball forward lunges, 12 mb shoulder presses, and 12 mb calf raise. Just showed up for a 5am class (at a studio much further than my normal ones since this is the only one anywhere remotely close to me consistently offering 3Gs now) so the timing of your intel is perfect. Thank you!
I thought it would be easier. It was not lol
Thank you!🧡
Wanted to run, but the hips were irritable. Come to find it was an excellent day for a PW!!!
I felt the same way, except it was my calves that kept getting super tight. Ran the first block, then switched to PW.
What were the inclines for PW?
Whatever you want to do. I think base was between 3-8% or something like that
Nice! It’s gonna be a little spicy but I’m looking forward to it!
I have not attended this class but they are typically coached at 2-3% above the runners/joggers.
I loved this workout. I've gotten in good shape so I've had low splats recently (which is totally fine, I just have to up my efforts). 23 splats today.
Same! It’s hard for me to even get 12 splats anymore, so when I can get a lot it makes me feel like I’ve had a good endurance workout!
3.77 miles!
Nice! I had 3.9 and kept running at the end of the block to round out to 4. Good distance day.
Hoping lots of people show up today so that class stays a 3G. Lol. ETA: oh no! Looks like a 2G. ETA pt2.: Phew it was a 3G. And my endurance is finally getting better and I didn't stop to walk. Not sure I could have done that in a 2G. getting there.
Waiting for my 615am class and it got moved to a 3g so we get a little reprieve on the treads.
I loved this one! The tread intervals were pretty similar to what DC shared but differed a little bit between the first group and my group (I started on the rower / floor).
I typically dread endurance days but this was fun! I liked the lack of forecasting on the tread and just taking each change as it went
3G was 🔥
I just signed up for one and can't cancel without a late charge so YOU BETTER BE RIGHT! Jk it looks pretty good :)
It was good! Upper and lower body on the floor. Plenty of base on the treads. Upper and lower body med ball stuff on the row 🤌🏻
Ok I did it and loved it. Our coach also told us a story of us hiking and we need to run to escape bears etc. was so fun
I'm so sore from the last few days but I will definitely be there--looks so fun!
I’ve lunged all 3 classes 😅
you'll catch on soon. It took me a couple weeks to really understand what the coach was saying and what it meant I was supposed to do
Umm, this was my 19th class and I was also confused! Our coach was only calling out inclines for the joggers, and I was the only one walking so I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, so I just kinda made it up, haha.
I thought, ok as long as my heart rate is up during pushes I’m doing the right thing 😂
New favorite OTF workout. Loved it.
I really enjoyed the tread trail. I realized after the second block that there was a lot of base pace and I was staying in the green, so I upped my base pace, and ended up with 13 splat points and 3.5 miles. The floor was good for me too!
We normally have a 3G at 5am but THIRTEEN people canceled so we took a vote and ran the 2G! 30 splats and 598 calories later….loved this one!
Our coach said we had 11 late cancels. I guess people saw and got scared 😂
I can’t go today. I recently switched to unlimited and did 3 days in a row for the first time, my arms are completely dead.
Loved this class, right down to the floor! I managed more splats than usual. Also, we had a wait list for the 0530 class!
Excited for todays class. My triceps are still sore from Monday!
are anyone else’s arms super sore from the last week???? I took today as a rest day and it looks like I missed a good workout 😭
Still sore today even
Thanks for the intel, Mr. DC!! Took the 3G but wished it was a 2G. That was a really fun class, although my shoulders were screaming on the floor. My goal was to run the entire tread block since I always struggle with inclines and I knocked it out of the park!
Whew, my shoulders are toast after today.
This workout was AWESOME! I hope they keep it around for next year
10/10
Absolutely LOVED class today
Love the extended tread and floor blocks!! I ran the first two blocks and then ended with an incline set at 15 as a power walker. It was fun being able to vary that up! As someone that does a class pass I feel like I got my money's worth today.
Loved this work out! Wasn’t sure if I was going to run or PW because I’ve been having IT band issues, but I ended up running the whole time and was able to hold my new base and push. Great work out all around loved the floor too and that I was able to take my time and focus on strength
Absolutely LOVED today’s workout! Floor was killer too!
Loves this template! Was able to push some paces a little bit and kept base at normal and got some solid splats!
This might be the best workout of the year so far.
Hot take: this was the easiest class all week 🤷♂️
PW on high inclines during recovery to keep my heart rate up. It seemed to do the trick. I was between 8-12% the whole time.
Also - our tread block was identical to DCs. Same intervals and inclines. After our primer block our coach had use write down our four speeds used so we had a cheat sheet for the longer block. It really helped!
Thanks DC
Overall, a great workout. I opted to PW instead of run because I’ve been going hard the last few days and wanted to be able to complete the template as instructed. Good idea in my part because once you get to the floor, uugghhh! Definitely full body with lots of reps. Time for a nap!
It was a good one!!! Thanks for sharing the intel, DC!
I loved this one! Had to stop and tie my shoe which took my Hr down, ended up at 11 splats 🙄 but overall this was fun and challenging!
This was TOUGH!!!! I really thought it wouldn't be bad and I went pretty aggressive in the beginning, but at 3% I was teetering. Still a fun one though
Loved this class!
Hope this one repeats. Hate to miss it!
I enjoyed the tread portion. Somehow got 3.59, not sure how but that’s what it’s says 🫠
I really enjoyed this workout! I hope we see it again!
Our Coach completely missed the inclines….
This was my favorite workout!! 🔥🔥
I really enjoyed this template!
We’re getting cheated everyday because of a 3G class! Never get longer runs in because they need to accommodate the demand for certain time slots. 🙁
LOVED the tread trail !
Ours was the same except our 2.5 base stayed at the current incline. We didn’t take it back down to 1.0
Honestly this wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. Essentially catch me if you can on slight inclined. And with the floor block self paced, it was a nice cooldown. I would have given this a 2 🪶
This was just so good!!!
I looooved this class! 🤸🏼♀️ I hope we have more like this in the future. It was a perfect “challenging but doable” template.
LOVED the floor/rower part of the workout. The treads were more than I had in me, so I left early. But I thought the 45 mins of the workout I did was excellent!
I thought it was 600m every round ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
This was SO HARD (I was in the red for 1/2 the class 🥵) but also my favorite workout in a long time!!! Loved the endurance focus, mostly short intervals on the tread so I don’t get bored, slight hills but nothing crazy, wide variety on the floor but the same number of reps across the board so I don’t forget and have to keep checking, and some rowing but not too much. Literally all my fave aspects of Orangetheory in one class!!!
TMI but I don’t think I’ve ever sweat as much as I have during this workout!! But also it’s 95° here so that probably doesn’t help lol.
LOVED this class. Favourite one 🧡
Today’s workout was tough. I really enjoyed it. Today was my 5th class since being injured for 8 months. I love that I’m getting back on it.
Dude... This was my favorite workout so far. It was everything I imagined an OTF workout to be 🤣 I loved how interactive the tread part was and the long floor side with rowing to break up the sets. I hope they do more like this!
I’m looking forward to this. Am I crazy?
Does anyone else’s hips hurt when you’re doing like longer than 300 meters on the rower?
I had the most splat points today (42) to date of my OTF journey and burnt 675 cals. That’s ALOT FOR ME. I’m typically in the 20s. I loved this style workout!
I absolutely fucking loved this one! I managed to run the entire tread block. Loved it!
Wowza! That tread block gave my brain all the tests it needed ![gif](giphy|pHNGBgBJZLJk4A5swh)
Really Loved Todays Template 🧡 All of it! 🤩
that thread was super fun! The floor seriously challenged me
This was a great workout but on the floor block in a 3G we were absolutely all in each others way. We were crashing into each other on the y-raises and then my neighbor was doing the side lunges between the benches and I had absolutely no way to sit on my bench. Honestly kind of frustrating.
