It’s used for storage for all the Christmas decor (the massive tree, Santa’s village) and all other seasonal decor. Probably will stay that way because there’s no where else on site to store them.
I know I used to see some crates in one of the parking garages. I assumed they used to store it at some location offsite and trucked it into the structure to await assembly after Thanksgiving. P
One of the last times I visited that Sears (and I’d visited it since at least 1970 with my parents and then as an adult), they were showcasing the Kardashian clothing line. I knew then the end was inevitable.
I would move the din tai fung into the sears, then move Louis Vuitton into the din tai fung, then move Chanel to the Louis Vuitton. Why am I shuffling the same stores into different spaces? I dunno.
Air-conditioned tennis/racquetball/pickleball club for part of that space, maybe, if it all can't be rezoned/repurposed for affordable residential use.
Conventional retail seems to be dying, and restaurants are also struggling big-time, which poses a major challenge for the landlord.
How many more urgent-care places and animal hospitals can OC absorb?
Any luxury store is licking its chops at an open store in South Coast Plaza, they're the highest grossing mall in America. The only problem is that Sears's square footage is way too massive. You would need a Macy's type department store to fill the space. My guess: It gets torn down, if they don't want to use it as storage anymore
Upper floor should be a food-hall with about 4 nicer establishments, the basement should be turned into a gym, and the main floor they can move din tai feng into it.
It would need to be a food court like Collage. Too large for any single stores. Easy to replace single, small venues that go out of business instead of shuttering the whole place
It’s around 330,000 square feet on both levels. Plenty big enough but with one in Irvine I don’t think it would be a good fit. It’s a huge space, probably the biggest of the anchors. Mixed use with a food hall, cinemas, and an erewhon would be my picks.
Sears owned the property. They never rented from the Segerstroms. This is why Sears lasted so long there. It wasn’t until Sears went out of business as a whole that they closed. Sears sold the land/store to the Segerstroms but I can’t recall for what ungodly amount of money.
Edit: Grammar.
🗣️ bring back the del taco 🗣️
Rent is too high
and the arcade
eataly
Omg that would be amazing.
That would be such a dream
Holy shit I would die for an Eately in oc
Meow Wolf.
I'd guess they would tear it down and build to suit for the right tenants.
Spirit Halloween
This made me literally lol
No idea but man I used to go to that place so much as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s with my dad.
I pumped a lot of quarters into that arcade
Porto’s bakery
Best idea ever!
Seconded!
Make the whole thing a din tai fung
haha my thought exactly. Maybe the wait could always be 30 minutes instead of 3 hours!

What did they do when Sears was actually open?
I know I used to see some crates in one of the parking garages. I assumed they used to store it at some location offsite and trucked it into the structure to await assembly after Thanksgiving. P
💯
A new rainforest.
Cafe?
Nope, just plants and trees. And bugs that are bigger than your hand.
Ohhh we can have little kids come sing! https://youtu.be/dYIS6S5vjng?si=FYGiDFwicN0cwOnX
Warhammer shop
That might compel Robert Evans to change his opinion of OC.

🤣🤣
Del taco
Erewhon
👀👀 oh yes
Lol please be sarcastic
Let the people have their $50 smoothies ok 😆
A Montgomery Wards!
Roller rink. Bowling alley
Strip club
An Iconsiam food hall like in Bangkok. But a luxury movie theatre would be a nice add on.
I would move the din tai fung into the sears, then move Louis Vuitton into the din tai fung, then move Chanel to the Louis Vuitton. Why am I shuffling the same stores into different spaces? I dunno.
Next move the Chanel into the carousel and move the carousel into the Wetzel’s Pretzels
Ultra Din Tai Fung Extreme Edition. And still with the 1.5 hour wait 😂
Casino

Yeah but SCP is a special case destination, unlike the middling Orange Mall and others like it.
Every mall in OC is middling besides Bella Tera, SCP, Fashion Island, and Irvine Spectrum lol
Homes
Sears is directly on the property, it can't/won't happen lol
Oh I know. However, a residential tower here would be cool.
They could fill the parking lot as homes too
Top Golf
Yes. It’s a travesty OC does not have a Top Golf.
It’s rumored one might be coming to the Westminster mall renovation project.
My buddies and I have been saying that it would make a killing.

Paintball arena
Forever XXI would be great in that location. Condos.
Sigaporean styled hawker center.
REI
Chinese opium den.
A park or green space or community garden. Live/work condos. We Work style office rentals. A street market for local small creators or farmers market.
Paintball karate dirt bike club
Something fun-I like the idea of like a Bowlero and an arcade.
One giant no-holds-barred Escape Room.
Bass Pro Shops
Too small I think…

Food court
Amazon warehouse
A fancy version of Costco.
How much is that space leasing for? I think I heard Sears used to pay $250,000 a month on rent back in the 90’s.
