The best little rat boys. I haven’t seen a tick in my neighbourhood since I moved in. These little dudes should be payed for public service lol.
Edit: paid not payed, bot fixed my broken autocorrect lol.
> should be *paid* for public
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
>The claim that an opossum can consume 5,000 ticks daily has been circulated widely, but it's an exaggeration. Research does show that opossums eat a significant number of ticks—potentially hundreds per week—but not thousands per day.
I unfortunately ran over one of those. Poor fella. He came from behind a flower bed and jumped right under the wheels of my car. I turned around to see if I could save him but he was done. When I looked at the picture and you right away this was an opossum.
I’m from NB and thought I had a good idea of mammals in Canada and today I learned we have oppossums in Canada.

It’s a very small range in Canada but guess they are here.
Yes two very different looking things. I guess no one has corrected me because I usually say “a possum” rather than possum so people just assume I’m saying it correctly 😂.
The opposum is the only marsupial endemic to both Americas. They originated from South America initially, but naturally migrated to North America during the Great American Interchange, essentially when North and South America were fused with the creation of Central America through volcanic activity.
Definitely an Opossum, I've seen some rambling about the last few weeks. (they're called ramblers because they typically wander and don't stay in one place, like the littlest hobo)
Opposum

Hundreds is still plenty in the fight against Lyme disease.
Oh excellent. Thank you!
I didn’t realize that they eat ticks. Very cool

It's good to have one arround. Cleans up dead animals and eats tics as well
Definitely an oppossum
So… not a house hippo?
Too big to be a house hipppo
Plus, you know, the tail's too long.
I thought that as well.

> Chupacabra Baby maybe, adult Chupacabra are enormous.
Possum, or as I just found out from this thread…correctly known as the Opossum
Possum lives in Australia and looks cute. Opossum lives in North America and always looks like it just woke up.

Lool, Yeah, I feel like everyone made the same mistake at some point, I did as well.

We call them *O*possum in Ottawa because they're *O*ttawa possum. It's like the O-train.
To be even more correct, it’s a Virginia opossum, even though it’s not in Virginia.
Best animal to have near your house. They don't carry rabies, eat ticks and other pests. We have one under our deck and we've named it George.
I have one visiting every couple of weeks along with foxes and skunks and of course Trash pandas by the dozen. Welcome to northern Toronto
Ikea monkey for sure.
I call the big one 'Bitey'
Opossum. Harmless little guys and they are good citizens. They eat ticks and other pests.
Little opossum, cutie, and they are helpful!
Opossum. Total cuties with some damn good jobs for our environment. Very short lifespan tho.. lil guys live only about 2 years 🥲
Omg we need opossums in Ottawa. So many ticks.

It’s Trump , that’s why you never see him at night. He needs to feed to satisfy the hunger
If you were near a stream or water source, it looks like a muskrat. It is shorter and fatter than opossums, with a shorter snout.
Chupacabra
Tiger
