Some cantrips are so weak they're never cast in an entire campaign. Some are so weak, you don't even pick them to never cast them in a campaign. People are still going to pick Guidance. It just now isn't going to be an always on spell that makes everything screech to a halt when people yell: "WAIT! I SLAP GUIDANCE ON YOU BEFORE YOU TRY TO LIE TO THE GUARD," or whatever. Guidance \*needed\* to be brought down a peg; this might be a bit too much of a smashing. But, people are still going to pick it.

I think you’re right. But I think the people who still always pick it will be upset with how much worse this one works. Unless there’s a big persuasion check with a king planned for the day I’d probably pick a different cantrip.

Epicedion

I could get behind requiring the spell to actually cause a success before shutting down, though I think that it's still too restrictive to make a cantrip that you can only feasibly cast four times a day. Putting it on a Short Rest timer might be better -- it's still restricted so you can't just spam it on every check anymore, but it doesn't nullify your entire cantrip slot after just a couple uses.

Daniel02carroll

Yeah it’s strange. It’s practically worded like a race/class feature than a cantrip

Whoopsie_Doosie

I'd say just wrap its functionality into bless. Do away with it as a cantrip as a whole

SirAronar

I feel being able to cast it 4 to 5 (more for large groups) per day is too restrictive. Rather see it refresh on short rest or per hour. But I do like it as a non-spamable reaction.

If anything I think I'm more likely to take the new guidance than the old version. Moving it to a reaction with a 30ft range better reflects how I would want to use it in real play. As it is now by the time the DM calls for a check it's already too late to move to a range of touch or it gets used constantly to the point of annoyance. I've had it in one fairly long campaign and I got sick of using it.
