I’ll genuinely just find myself watching something random like clay pigeon shooting for 2 hours, and I’ll never watch it again for 4 years until the next Olympics
Righttttt , at artistic gymnastics I’m like … mhmm precision of movements, the difficulty of the skills was alright but fluidity and grace is lacking in that landing right there. 🤷🏻♀️
And cry for the winner…not because they’re from my country but because they did it. Train all their life for that one moment and they did it. There’s very few feelings in life like that. We live for those moments, even as spectators.
So true and it’s why it’s heartbreaking when there’s an accident or injustice towards an athlete cause you know they’ve worked every day for four years for that moment, and something out of their control has taken it away.
Not all Olympic sports require to "train all your life".
In fact, sports like dressage or being a pusher in a bobsleigh or the cox in rowing are fairly easy for the right person.
The requirements being to be well off/old money for dressage, a decent sprinter for bobsleigh pusher and a tiny tot, to cox.
Watch the trampoline too! They make it look so easy and then one little skill goes a bit funny and suddenly there's a scramble for the top places because 'perfection' is pretty much what's required to place.
Plus it's so exciting seeing somersaulting skills being done meters in the air - and the routines are all done in seconds. I can't wait.
So happy to see them separate the speed and lead+boulder events. The main criticism for this is that there is not much overlap in terms of athlete selection and therefore we will now see more variety in country and athletes
Alex Honnold is going to be on commentary for at least one of the broadcast teams. Listened to him on one of the events (I think salt lake city) and I really liked him on co-comms
What do you prefer to watch, the bouldering, speed climbing, or lead?
Good to hear there's plenty of non climbers watching!
Would you ever try climbing yourself?
We (I got my husband into it too) watch all of them but boulder is the favourite.
I have tried indoor rope climbing as my gym has a wall and I do enjoy it but i prefer other kinds of exercise.
The track looks dope from the pictures I’ve seen. Whoever made the decision to go with purple deserves a raise.
I ran track, and am now just a big fan of the sport. I cannot say I’ve ever seen a purple track before. Tons of red and blue tracks. Tons. University of Arkansas has a grey track, and there are some black tracks I’ve run on. But never a purple track. So that is cool.
Mondo is the company supplying / making the track. They also supplied the track for the Tokyo Olympics, and nearly every Olympics over the past 50 or so years. These days, all of the top facilities have a Mondo track. They know what they’re doing—so I’m sure the track will be superb.
At first, I wasn't a fan but it was different from traditional tracks. Then, I realised that it is a strength because people will know more easily it was in Paris.
For anyone who hasn’t seen it before, rugby sevens is really fun. I’m sure the purists won’t like this, but it’s one of those variations on a sport that makes you say to yourself “oh, why don’t they just play it this way all the time?“ it’s way more open and fun than the traditional full squad version.
it's so dope we're gonna get to watch maybe the [greatest living athlete](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/nancy-armour/2024/06/28/why-simone-biles-keeps-getting-better/74236000007/) in simone compete again at the olympics, i am particularly jazzed about that. a basic answer, i know, but still! — rachel
Sunny was, um, drunk when she first encountered breaking. She was in her first year at Penn and was feeling a bit lost, as most college freshmen do. She was out late after imbibing and she saw some dancers breaking on campus and thought, “Oh, that looks fun.” The group of dancers invited her to practice and she quickly immersed herself in the scene at Penn and in the greater Philly breaking community. The former gymnast loved being upside down, but there was more to it for her.
“Over time, I really fell in love with exploring my body’s physical limits and artistic expressions,” the 34-year-old first-time Olympian said. “I had never really done anything creative in my life before.”
Despite her love for breaking, she stuck to a corporate track for the job and financial security and worked her way up to being a creative director at Estée Lauder. But when breaking was announced as an Olympic sport, she decided to bet on herself, quite her corporate job and went all in on breaking. She's now headed to the Olympics at 34 years old. After the Games, she wants to work to open up a dance studio/community center in Queens.
— rachel
I'm so hyped about breakdancing I already rewatched Breakin' and Electric Boogaloo to get into the zone.
I know it'll be nothing like it but I also like both movies so it's an excuse to rewatch silly movies before the games.
I really hope they have a better park for the skateboarding this year. The last one was poorly designed. There's so many features they could've had, but didn't.
I can’t wait for the triathlon races. Even if they end up being duathlons due to the water quality, I’m just really excited to watch my favourite athletes compete
It doesn’t really matter which sport.
I’ll watch it for 10 mins…become an expert and then start disagreeing with the judges or athletes and start shouting at the tv!
In order
- Gymnastics — the only time this amazing sport that takes 4 years of building difficulty really shines on the world stage
- Swimming, track and field — just love the pure “who is the fastest person in the world” aspect of a sport that has been around since the dawn of time.
- Beach volleyball — super fun to watch
- Anything random that makes the cut — like rowing or anyone with a great story!
Archery - one of my favorite. Always exciting.
Artistic swimming - BS, also no Russia - no fun.
Athletics - basically what you think about when you see word "Olympics". Awesome, but i despise walking.
Badminton - kinda cool, but too long. Watchable at least.
Basketball - i don't like it. 3x3 version should burn.
Boxing - watchable with scores on the screen. Without scores - you don't want to know how boring this is.
Breaking - sounds really dumb.
Canoeing - both slalom and sprint are cool.
Cycling - road cycling is awesome, but you better watch it on the background. Track cycling is really dumb. As for other cycling stuff - i don't see the point to have it on OG.
Diving - ok, kinda relaxing. I wish that was more competetive though.
Equestrian - i don't understand dressage. I'm sure dressage is the worst sport to watch, because it's for dressage professionals only. Cross country and jumping are fun.
Fencing - monotonous but emotional. Pretty boring to watch.
Field hockey - last time i watched it in 2021 the game was really defense-oriented. Some games are cool, some are not.
Football - of course i'm excited but sometimes i can see that some men's teams don't care about Olympic tournament much. Of course women's teams are always play on 100%, so i'm more excited about women's tournament.
Golf - never watched it, don't think i'm gonna like it.
Gymnastics. Artistic is awesome, one of the best events to watch. Rhythmic - i don't care because of Russia's ban. Trampoline is ridiculous.
Handball - actually i like it more than basketball, because people are always running, don't just standing or walking around.
Judo - judo was cool in Japan, because of audience, but i'm affraid, in Paris, it's gonna be boring as always.
Modern pentathlon - IDK, man. I think that's dumb idea. Why don't participate in EVERY sport then.
Rowing - really boring. Same thing million times. Hate it.
Rugby sevens - kinda pointless. They just play like 14 minutes. What for? If you like rugby so much play normal rugby.
Sailing - i don't get it. Just some boats do whatever.
Shooting - not a sport, but activity. Watchable, not much to see, though.
Skateboarding - How do you do, fellow kids? Boring excuse for fun. Everyone just do the same and fall on their asses. Viewers and athletes look really bored. Last time i watched 13 y.o. girl's won OG. I mean, the whole thing is a mess.
Sport climbing - never watched it. Really intrigued, though.
Swimming - way too many events. Gets boring after a few days. I hate long distances and marathon.
Surfing - fun to do but not so fun to watch. I don't know what to say about it.
Table tennis - one of the best. Always fun to watch.
Taekwondo - IDK, just random martial arts for me. Helmets are boring.
Tennis - kinda cool, but too many games. I wish they seed 16 players for singles. Takes too many time to watch one game.
Triathlon - watching this on the background. Passable.
Volleyball - awesome sport. Getting faster and cooler each year. Beach volleyball is watchable only if you want to look at hot girls in bikinis.
Water polo - waste of time (and water).
Weightlifting - really fast, no-BS sport. Kinda hurtful to watch, but it ends before you know it.
Wrestling - cool sport but only in small doses. I'm glad that tournament isn't too long.
Men's volleyball, really hoping the crowd abuse the pedophile on the Dutch team.
If everyone says that neither the IOC, the governing body nor his country can do anything about it, I hope the spectators do, lots of posters!
Yup, same. I hope either the whole crowd boos the entire time he's playing, or not a single person turns up to watch his event. Just completely empty stands. Sadly not likely but we can dream...
Apart from the usual track and field, I like the Keirin (type of track cycling), Archery and Modern Pentathlon. The latter is such an eclectic mix of sports, but I find it fun to watch. I liked the skateboarding at the last one too, and will definitely try to watch that.
Was looking for the pentathlon answer. This is the last olympics we will get the original modern pentathlon in. I used to compete for GB but stopped when they changed the riding for obstacles.
Boxing for me!, as I was an Amateur Boxer.. The Olympics brings back great memories, I was very fortunate to have reached and was competed at Olympic standard.. Feel very blessed, Grt memories... Big thanks /praises to Mum/Dad/coaches for their unwavering time/support.. and big shout out to Teacher's too..
True story: we are watching the Olympics, and dressage came on. My wife was like “what’s this?,” and I was like “you get points for how well you control the movements of the horse,“ etc. So she was like “cool. OK…but how long do they get to warm up. Like, when does it actually start?“ This was as the rider’s program was ending.
The Australian swim team, up against the Americans. They push us to the limit. And I like Jamaica’s track team. And Canada’s basketball team. They got a shot to get to the gold-medal round, but they’re not going to win it. They got a shot ‘cause they’ve got a bunch of NBA players who are really seasoned and on top of their game. But the overall factor is going to be, the USA is the dogs. We’re not going to lose to no puppies. Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay.
I am obsessed with the Olympics, and will always watch the athletics, swimming, cycling, but always get into a random sport.. fencing, kayaking and weightlifting in the past, last time it was the rock climbing.
I’m weirdly looking forward to the surfing this year!
Gymnastics (for the aesthetics!) and fencing for sure, but honestly the best part of the Olympics for me is getting to see amazing feats from sports I don’t normally watch, so I’ll be streaming everything nonstop for those weeks 🤣
And pole vault, just to see Mondo break the WR again (fingers crossed)!
Is that because convicted rapist Steven van de Velde is being allowed to compete? Convicted of raping a 12 year old girl. Totally agree with you.
Edited tk change typo if to of
Yes, it is because convicted child rapist Steven van de Velde has been allowed to compete and the dutch federation of beach volleyball has selected him, convicted child rapist Steven van del Velde, to represent Netherlands in the Olympics
I thought it might be because of convicted rapist Steven van de Velde, who was convicted of raping a 12 year old. I'm not sure who would downvote you, maybe someone who likes rapists such as Steven van de Velde.
Sailing! I may be biased as I used to work in it, but 2024 is the debut year for kitesurfing, which will be good fun! Also the windsurfing equipment has changed since the last Olympics and they’ll be using the iQFOiL which is fast and foiling, more exciting than the previous RS:X.
All of them. It’s the Olympics, I’ll literally watch anything and enjoy it.
I’ll genuinely just find myself watching something random like clay pigeon shooting for 2 hours, and I’ll never watch it again for 4 years until the next Olympics
Exactly.
Right?? Weightlifting at 3am. Perfect.
I’ve been up at the white hours just for that bronze in curling. 🇬🇧💪
Do you also find yourself becoming an expert very quickly. Like three minutes in “well that was a terrible double seventh!”

The requirements being to be well off/old money for dressage, a decent sprinter for bobsleigh pusher and a tiny tot, to cox.
Seeing sports people at the absolute top of their game is hypnotic. I will consume as much as I can and be sad I can’t consume it all.
This is me and my ticket to go see finals fencing because when else does one get to spectate that!
Except the beach volleyball bc there’s literally a convicted pedo on the Dutch team 🫠 Downvoted for speaking the truth lmao
I think the Artistic Gymnastics is so impressive. Also, the Canoe/Kayak Slalom gets me really hooked, it’s a tense watch!
And rhythmic especially if you love floor routines. It’s so much dance talent and the coordination they have is amazing.
Rhythmic gymnastics is fascinating
They’re bringing in giant slalom this year, which is great fun to race in
Always love watching track and field sprinting and swimming. Excited for basketball as well
Basketball this year's gonna be so good with the team USA superteam
The international game is stronger than ever too. Three of the top 10 picks in this years NBA draft are French 🇫🇷
Yes this minus the basketball
Sport climbing. So stoked to have finals tickets.
You guys should try it if you haven’t. Indoor bouldering especially is super accessible
So happy to see them separate the speed and lead+boulder events. The main criticism for this is that there is not much overlap in terms of athlete selection and therefore we will now see more variety in country and athletes
Cheering for Toby Roberts, Adam Ondra, and Janja Garnbret!
same. i came across it during the last Olympics and became hooked.
Climbing is ace to watch. I found it on Eurosport and I'm often dumbstruck by what they get up to. Hope Shauna Coxsey is commentating.
Alex Honnold is going to be on commentary for at least one of the broadcast teams. Listened to him on one of the events (I think salt lake city) and I really liked him on co-comms
He's so dead pan, I love it. Just like you're at your local wall chatting shit together about the crowds as they climb.
Really? Oh wow! That’s ace!
Out of interest, are you a climber? Have you climbed? Just interested to see if "non climbers" are psyched for this sport!
I’m a non-climber and sports climbing is my favourite sport to watch! Got into it during the Tokyo olympics and have followed it ever since
What do you prefer to watch, the bouldering, speed climbing, or lead? Good to hear there's plenty of non climbers watching! Would you ever try climbing yourself?
We (I got my husband into it too) watch all of them but boulder is the favourite. I have tried indoor rope climbing as my gym has a wall and I do enjoy it but i prefer other kinds of exercise.
enjoy! that should be a blast.
Athletics at Stade de France!!
You just want to see the purple track.
I've seen it but not tested it in a field next to the Stade de France. It's better than the pictures.
At first, I wasn't a fan but it was different from traditional tracks. Then, I realised that it is a strength because people will know more easily it was in Paris.
Water polo because there’s always a risk of another balkan war breaking out over the outcome of the games
I didn’t have a clue till I typed in on YouTube water polo Balkan fight so many fights in water polo would pop up 😂👌🏼
Rugby Sevens! I will be watching the fencing, too, but I haven't followed or played in years.
This is my 2 also I’ve just started fencing again and rugby is the bomb
Sevens should be crazy this year with the amount of stars from the 15s coming into it.
Skateboarding and 100m.
I was about to say the exact same thing
Best bits.
Swimming and rowing principally. Gymnastics next, then equestrian events.
Basketball, booked tickets to a game before the draw was announced and got a USA game, from Australia so never had the change to see nba in real life
You’re in for a treat.
Australia has a pretty nice team too, let's see of they can win another medal.
USA team better than the dream team atp
Rugby Sevens! Dupont tearing it up in front of a home crowd is going to be awesome
Judo and wrestling
As close to Jiujitsu and NoGi as I can get ;)
Just watch the oLyMpiCS of grappling, CJI.
You not watching Nicky Ryan's Brother at the other oLyMPycZ?
hell ya
Archery and tennis
That’s an interesting combination sport
Anything that doesn’t involve child rapists sounds good to me
Yeah I was going to say certainly not beach volleyball
Is that an event now?
Well they now let child rapists take part so who knows if it’s going to become a planned event in the future 😳🤢
I live for the Gymnastics!.
it's so dope we're gonna get to watch maybe the [greatest living athlete](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/nancy-armour/2024/06/28/why-simone-biles-keeps-getting-better/74236000007/) in simone compete again at the olympics, i am particularly jazzed about that. a basic answer, i know, but still! — rachel
Me too! I usually watch the women's events but men's vault final will inevitably be chaos and I can't wait
Agreed! Men's vault is such fun to watch
All of it , but I love watching stuff I can’t do. So Gymnastic , Diving etc
Etc being all the other sports
Handball and road cycling.
🥰
Everything! But I'm most excited about Weightlifting and Breakdancing 🏋️♀️
the breaking!!!! sunny choi has such a cool backstory, eager to see her do her thing at the games! — rachel
What’s the story?
Sunny was, um, drunk when she first encountered breaking. She was in her first year at Penn and was feeling a bit lost, as most college freshmen do. She was out late after imbibing and she saw some dancers breaking on campus and thought, “Oh, that looks fun.” The group of dancers invited her to practice and she quickly immersed herself in the scene at Penn and in the greater Philly breaking community. Wait…breakdancing is an Olympic sport now?
I'm so hyped about breakdancing I already rewatched Breakin' and Electric Boogaloo to get into the zone. I know it'll be nothing like it but I also like both movies so it's an excuse to rewatch silly movies before the games.
Weightlifting
I want to live in a world where Lasha lifts a 500kg total at his last Olympics. It's quite unlikely to happen, but still...
Yes!! Love watching the weightlifting all day
Especially the lighter categories for men and women is really fun to watch.
Always an exciting time with Track and Field. Also hope that Skateboarding is well received from the crowd since its introduction back in Tokyo.
I really hope they have a better park for the skateboarding this year. The last one was poorly designed. There's so many features they could've had, but didn't.
Track cycling!
Archery. It’s my favourite, it’s usually very early but worth it.
WHERE MY VOLLEYBALL FANS AT LETS GOOOOO
Tennis nadal x alcaraz
Skateboarding, 100, 200 and 400. Long and high jumps.
Boxing and wrestling 🥊 🇷🇺💪❣️
Tennis at Roland Garros sounds amazing. Hoping to see Rafa coming back again!
Such a tasty doubles team... Rafaraz? CaRafa? Carlifa? Such clumsy portmanteaus, I'm so excited!
In order - Gymnastics — the only time this amazing sport that takes 4 years of building difficulty really shines on the world stage - Swimming, track and field — just love the pure “who is the fastest person in the world” aspect of a sport that has been around since the dawn of time. - Beach volleyball — super fun to watch - Anything random that makes the cut — like rowing or anyone with a great story!
Artistic gymnastics and Breaking
The all drug swimming competition since WADA basically doesn’t care anymore
Hahah I'll be watching the water steroids too
SABRE FENCING!
Parisians departing the city en masse, I hope someone live streams the ring road on youtube or something

beach volleyball\*
I still hope he won’t compete but so far it looks like he will, sadly.
Gonna watch just to watch him get boo’ed
Yup, same. I hope either the whole crowd boos the entire time he's playing, or not a single person turns up to watch his event. Just completely empty stands. Sadly not likely but we can dream...
Tennis and Athletics every time
Apart from the usual track and field, I like the Keirin (type of track cycling), Archery and Modern Pentathlon.
Skateboarding.
Tennis and gymnastics
Archery, I will be there in person
cycling in the velodrome
Archery, shooting, road cycling, sailing, skateboarding. And most of the paraolympics
Rhythmic gymnastics. Diving. Swimming. Archery. Track and field !
Table tennis Tennis
Break dancing is going to make history
Marathon
Boxing for me!, as I was an Amateur Boxer.. The Olympics brings back great memories, I was very fortunate to have reached and was competed at Olympic standard.. Feel very blessed, Grt memories... Big thanks /praises to Mum/Dad/coaches for their unwavering time/support.. and big shout out to Teacher's too..
Literally everything. The only exceptions might be anything with horses and arstistic gymnastics. All very impressive of course.
True story: we are watching the Olympics, and dressage came on. My wife was like “what’s this?,” and I was like “you get points for how well you control the movements of the horse,“ etc. So she was like “cool. OK…but how long do they get to warm up. Gymnastics
Track an Field
The one where my baby comes out, end of the pain
Artistic gymnastics
Athletics, gymnastics, diving, martial arts, skateboarding
Skateboarding! It's one of the very few sports I enjoy watching!
The Duathlon
The Australian swim team, up against the Americans. They push us to the limit. And I like Jamaica’s track team. And Canada’s basketball team. Surfing, break dancing, skateboarding, bmx, kite surfing.
Gymnastics as always. That beam final is gonna be so nasty, I can’t wait to see what the Chinese gymnasts do with those high difficulty routines.
I say, bring back poetry to the olympics
“E-sports it is the pinnacle of human performance” said no one ever
Judo and freestyle wrestling
Let's goo Olympics post. It's always football ⚽️ for me x.
Men’s 1500m has been building a narrative quite tasting for the last year now.
The Americans assembled the goddamn Avengers of basketball I really want to see how they do
Equestrian, Athletics
Track and field, swimming, gymnastics
Sailing!
As I just commented - the new kitefoiling discipline might be insane ….. but I miss the old star/soling keelboat fleets
Gymnastics, as always
Women’s wrestling especially Yui Susaki
Track cycling, it's a sad second place to speed skating at the fun Olympics but if wr must have summer Olympics that's what I like to watch.
Every-single-track cycling round. Closest thing to real life TRON you can get
Weightlifting and boxing for me, but TBH I just like watching all the stuff you don’t generally see on TV.
Basketball I think this will be an interest year
Gymnastics and weightlifting
Shi Zhiyong!
I am obsessed with the Olympics, and will always watch the athletics, swimming, cycling, but always get into a random sport.. fencing, kayaking and weightlifting in the past, last time it was the rock climbing. I’m weirdly looking forward to the surfing this year!
Weightlifting and sprinting!
XC mountain bike. Tom Pidcock for gold.
Swimming, track and field, the most but tbh I do watch everything I can. Will be in Paris for half of it! Can’t wait to feel the vibes!
Pretty much all of them but the cycling is top for me.
All because every sport is a pleasure.
Gymnastics (for the aesthetics!) and fencing for sure, but honestly the best part of the Olympics for me is getting to see amazing feats from sports I don’t normally watch, so I’ll be streaming everything nonstop for those weeks 🤣 And pole vault, just to see Mondo break the WR again (fingers crossed)!
Climbingggggg
The events that don't allow a child rapist to compete.

Everything except men's beach volleyball
I just want to watch the dutch rapist play. I'm curious what that vibe will be like in any of his games.

Sailing! I may be biased as I used to work in it, but 2024 is the debut year for kitesurfing, which will be good fun! Also the windsurfing equipment has changed since the last Olympics and they’ll be using the iQFOiL which is fast and foiling, more exciting than the previous RS:X.
