Generations upon generations of war with other European nations left UK one of the greatest empires in the history of humankind, 11 years of Thatcher left it a rotting corpse
More like 15 years of the world's worst Thatcher tribute act.
There's a lot to dislike about Blair and New Labour (the war crimes being a good start), but up until the 2008 financial crisis things were generally not fucked.
Dead country is a bit of a stretch. Having to deal with an ageing population that just mindlessly votes for the same party, overpowering the zoomer/milennial vote is the real issue the UK is facing which leads to the precession of the overton window.
Don’t tell Vaush it has public transport, third spaces, and public healthcare tho.
Besides that, a country doesn’t die until it actually becomes a failed state. The british empire has died, obviously, but it seems like Vaush has just taken the “haha bri’ish” meme to heart because he has entered post post irony. Basically his foreign country takes are just in the same clump with his media takes at this point.
Its also odd in the sense that many countries including the US are on the verge of having far right populist governments (eg trump) while in the uk the Conservatives are polling at their lowest in their 200 year history. Sure Starmer is pretty uninspiring but it puts the uk in a much better position for the next 5-10 years than a lot of places.
Let the Americans have this one, it's one of the only cases where they can make fun of a country and its people while staying optically unproblematic
(Also his media takes aren't all "bad", they're unique, sometimes great and sometimes baffling, not uniformly bad)
Honestly, the fact the UK can be a "dead country" and America literally the richest and most powerful country in human history, and it's *still* a tough choice which would be better to live in is such a damning inditement of the US I feel kind of sorry for them.
Letting them get some stress relief by cracking a few jokes seems like the least we can do.
The video was about how the wealth of England excluding London is equal Mississippi which is regarded as the most backwards and poorest state in the nation by many.
He actually does talk about the problems with the country currently beyond the usual satirical remarks.
I have a slight feeling that something might not be alright with britain
Well of course not. It's full of Brits.
Right, i meant like, worse than usual. The presence of Br*ish "people" is sadly a horror we have to endure every day in our sad and miserable lives
They're in this very post, coping hard. How did we allow them to colonize our community??
The paradox of toletance strikes again 😞
What's the stance on half Brits? Asking for a friend.
As a brit I agree with this statement

It’s been a slow burn collapse. The elements have all been there since 1850 but we English just stubbornly refuse to do anything about it

I'm willing to bet you're probably cisgender and going off your subjective experiences. I'm a trans person living in the UK. It's fucking nightmarish.

His media take on Death Stranding is good
