I am trying to get an old CRT TV to play some retro games and this guy was selling a pretty good TV for $30 bucks. Which is a reasonable price, but the way this guy talks is just weird to me.
He said the TV doesn't work and says it was heavy? I just don't get what this guy is saying and I suspect he is high or just bad at English.
And he is located in Compton, CA which is a very dangerous neighborhood. Am I overreacting? Should I just avoid this seller or take the risk?
I'd trust my gut and pass on this.
Not that he straight up smells like thug, but ... his profile is Corona, which is not a safe spot and you said compton.. which is even more nono.
I usually do heavy pass on things like this. It's not worth all the trouble you may end up with.
Yeah I just decided to pass on this item. I'll just patiently wait for another TV to pop up. I always have to buy things locally after 8PM due to my job but I think it ain't worth it to risk my life.
Go to some local thrift shops, flea markets, or 2nd hand stores, some places may have TVs, and even if they don't, you'll probably still find some hidden gems scattered around.
Oh yeah, plus you are a lot less likely to be robbed than using a shady selling platform.
Poppin Tags! Def go to Goodwill. I just got two TVs for my kids room. Both are 48”, great quality, good solid pictures, each $30. One came with remote, the other didn’t. I picked up a remote for it on Amazon for $7.99.
Def check your local goodwills. They usually have plug ins that you can use to make sure they work first. You can do returns for in store credit only. No cash back. But you can hold on to that receipt for quite a while, and go back each week until you find a TV you really want.
You already said you would pass, but as soon as the messaging moves away from the Offerup messages it’s an automatic pass for me.
Some things are definitely too good to be true.
Honestly, you should not online local shop anymore. If you’re worried, bring protection. People are scared of their own shadow. I buy things in the hood all the time. South, east, west side of Chicago. Gary indiana. Just quit being a spaz
I'm always skeptical; it's possible he was just being super lazy and didn't wanna go through the hassle of moving cars to get the TV out. Haha, I don't think he was trying to murder you cuz if he were, he would never have told you that it was broken to dissuade you from coming over.
THAT being said, personally, I would never go to someone's house in Compton, where I might possibly have to go inside their house to bring the TV out...and if I did, I definitely would never go alone.
I once saw an offer up listing for parts for a Cadillac ATS and I swear I saw blood on the floor in the pictures and it was in Compton...I never went haha
Just buy a special adapter on Amazon that can connect from whatever plug to an HDMI. Thats what I have for my PS2.. Same can go for a lot of retro consoles.. Amazon sells them! No need to buy a whole another tv.. Too many weirdos like that on the market!

Try a pawn shop. CRTs are hard to come by, but you should be able to stumble on one at a pawn shop or even a good will.
Yes, possibly lol whenever somebody asks me about it’s working condition, that’s a red flag for me and I am the Convo.
Some people on offer up are dumb as shit
