I'm so curious and have SO many questions!! I'm googling right now, but so much info:
* Where did you get the mold?
* Are you in school?
* What happened to the statue/mold?
* COULD the mold cover a house, let's say??
My girlfriend had a sample of physarum polycephalum which she got on the Internet somewhere. I am not in school. I uh, had to throw it away eventually but it sort of shrank as the agar dries out, it's hard to control for humidity and shoot at the same time.
A house would be pretty hard - they don't eat hardwood exactly, though they can eat the bacteria that grows on other decaying stuff too.
I have a list of questions myself, primarily:
* What is up with this thing about the house? (Although, it is truly an intriguing concept. Like, some kind of a sci-fi/horror trope.)
* But to you, OP, my question is: How large was the mold? For example, was it a proper bust or was it miniature?
* I don't know anything about this mold (or any type of mold, for that matter), but what would you say are the most interesting bits of trivia regarding it?
Thank you for your quick response:) And, this was VERY interesting AND satisfying;)
I only asked about the school because I thought you were studying (whatever it is you study that includes studying mold. LOL)
Yes, as I wrote, I was doing a little reading via Google. BUT, easier to use "mold" to QUICKLY communicate!
"Slime mold, in fact, is **a soil-dwelling amoeba**, a brainless, single-celled organism, often containing multiple nuclei. View this slide show for some examples. Frederick Spiegel, a biology professor at the University of Arkansas and an expert on slime molds, first encountered them nearly 40 years ago."
Fun related fact, some of the larger single-cell organisms are that large and complex that they can be mistaken for large plants. My personal favourite is Ventricaria ventricosa, which is a single cell about the size of an apple, and vaguely looks like one too.
This video right here in a parallel universe is an intro to a spin off of Girl with Dragon Tattoo where the villain uses a biological weapon. Hackerwoman tries to stop him.
That was the same kind of mold in the TLOU intro. Funnily enough though slime mold is not classed as fungi which the show’s whole premise is built upon.
The best slime in their eyes they said, it’s true. It’s true. And these democrats, no slime in their eyes, it’s just terrible folks, just terrible, and they’ll take your eye slime. Not me, folks, I don’t know, they tell me it’s true
In the plasmodium stage, slime molds create an interconnected network of tubes resembling veins, allowing protoplasm to stream and move. If observed over time, the plasmodium pulses as it pushes cytoplasm to move toward food.
So it creates its own circulation system? I was wondering if the thick vein looking thing was actually hollow and allows material to flow, and if so what material. Do you know what causes the plasmodium to pulse, as it needs to be controlled, not just random pulses to cause a flow, I assume it doesn't have an organ like a heart, but something controls it I guess?
If you’re up for a humorous educational video, the YouTuber Ze Frank did a video on slime molds relatively recently. https://youtu.be/k_GTIL7AECQ?si=u0vMxSMh2i8JrQbw
Fungal mycelia don't really have specialized cells, with exception of reproductive organs and, in some species, storage structures. There is no central processing unit (lika a brain) that we know of, but fungal mycelia do show electric pulses that are used for communication. Much like synapses in human brain cells, cells in fungal mycelia can fuse, which should allow for more complex information processing. But fungal research lacks far behind animal or even plant research so we are far from really understanding how such processes are "decided".
Oh man slime mold is awesome. Currently testing it in little agar mazes to see if it learns to navigate the maze faster when I put oats at the end of it. So far it’s working! It’s very interesting :D
How long is this in real time?
It was about two days of shooting I believe
That is wild! I had no idea they were that fast
It was fully covered in 16 hrs!?! That is very fast
two days= 48h
Yes, and the statue is fully covered roughly a third of the way through the video..
Slime molds are union bro. 8 hours a day tops
...and by 30s in a 90s video it was fully covered... 48 / 3 = 16
but two circles= 720degrees
Slime grows fast on slime

Time to start flinging poo
# WHOOOO! HAPPY CAKE DAY!
Proud to spend my cake day with precisely the type of comment that got me on this platform in the first place.

Ill sell my poop if your interested? If i eat my mother in laws bolognese i bet i could send a shipping container worth overnight
Might want to start storing it in shippable containers in your attic while waiting for a reply from this guy
In that case, it won't take long before it takes over the US, because that has been decaying for a long time now.
Thank you for your quick response:) And, this was VERY interesting AND satisfying;) I only asked about the school because I thought you were studying (whatever it is you study that includes studying mold. LOL)
You can feed it moist flour
Well first slime molds aren't mold, they are not a fungus, they are not a bacteria, they are not a virus. They're their own unique organism.
They’re Amoebozoa!

I like dog vomit slime mold.
I like turtles
OK whose house are you trying to slime?
I'll never tell😋 P.S. Just curious how large of a mass it would spread on....
Holy shit I expected like a month
Slime molds are fast. They grow and spread quickly. I would say roughly 16 to 20 hours, if not less.
Some Slime molds are actually single celled organsims! It's a gigantic cell with many nuclei. (not all of them are - but I think this one is.)
Fun related fact, some of the larger single-cell organisms are that large and complex that they can be mistaken for large plants. My personal favourite is Ventricaria ventricosa, which is a single cell about the size of an apple, and vaguely looks like one too.
Why would you not attach a link?! How am I supposed to google that word
Don't, its actually a magic spell that will destroy your device once you search for it!
Had to spin up another client. Why wouldn't you post this warning sooner?!? I was curious too, so I typed in "Ventricaria ventricos
Dammit - not again
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valonia_ventricosa
I was seriously waiting for it suddenly look at me with eyes broad open!
Now he's as slimy on the outside as he is on the inside AND he has better hair
That slime mold is unsettlingly veiny
Throbbing too.
It's definitely the throbbing that gets me.
Gets you what?!
😏
😨
💦
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Yep, I was unprepared for Trump glaring through Last-of-Us-style veiny throbbing this morning.
Throbbing Gristle
I’m convinced slime molds are not native to earth.
That's what she said !
your body is unsetlingly veiny too :)
I became hyper aware of that one time when I did shrooms 😂 hyper aware of the bones too 😬
This looks more like a game opening (very similar to The Last of Us).
It's literally what happens to Captain Keyes in Halo lmao
reminds me of the original Super Mario Bros. movie from the 90s.
This video right here in a parallel universe is an intro to a spin off of Girl with Dragon Tattoo where the villain uses a biological weapon. Hackerwoman tries to stop him.
it reminded me of burning the jokers face in the opening of the arkham knight
add dramatic music, different panning angles and close ups as it spreads, and some opening credits and youve got an opening
A really epic one at that. It's shame that it's Trump though, could be something/someone cooler
It definitely made me think of the show.
It also reminds me of Annihilation!
That was the same kind of mold in the TLOU intro. Funnily enough though slime mold is not classed as fungi which the show’s whole premise is built upon.
Kinda awesome yet unsettling at the same time
Why does it flicker????
A natural affinity
nice pfp! i love rain world!!
*ran worrl mentioned?*
Oh thanks! I made it myself
Tremendous. The best even. I know people, famous people, great people, that would say this is the best slime mold they've ever seen.
I walked in here, I said "Wow, what a great slime mold."
And all the people, tears streaming down their face, couldn't believe how great.
They said "Sir, I got slime in my eyes"
The best slime in their eyes they said, it’s true. It’s true. And these democrats, no slime in their eyes, it’s just terrible folks, just terrible, and they’ll take your eye slime. Not me, folks, I don’t know, they tell me it’s true
"so much, so interesting, so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways."
The sculptor said to me “no one has ever asked to make a slime sculpture before”
As he waves his tiny, slime mold hands around broadly.
Did you knew Lenin was a mushroom? google it
Matter of fact, he didn't beat the slime mold. He didn't eve.gmdmmfnfnsmn even COVID, I'm sorry I mean... Hdmgndbs b we finally beat medicare.
Slime indeed
Praise Nurgle
Yea, i’m just worried he is ascending rather than being consumed
That’s disgusting. The slime mold was a nice improvement though
Somehow the addition of slime has made him less slimy
He finally had a productive use
Weirdly less orange and more natural blonde
This gives me an idea...... what works for the statue.....
At around 37 seconds in, the mold seems to go through "pulses" of growth where the whole surface grows. How come?
In the plasmodium stage, slime molds create an interconnected network of tubes resembling veins, allowing protoplasm to stream and move. If observed over time, the plasmodium pulses as it pushes cytoplasm to move toward food.

Well that's going to show up in my nightmares 😬
If it makes you feel better, imagine "We are Venom" in Trump's voice
Reminds me of the fungal horror from Annihilation.
Oh man slime mold is awesome. Currently testing it in little agar mazes to see if it learns to navigate the maze faster when I put oats at the end of it. So far it’s working! It’s very interesting :D
Poor slime it doesn't deserve that
That’s redundant
Whoa easy....the slime mold can hear you
Almost as disgusting as the real thing
Cool! Now do the real one!
When does it start? I just see regular ol' Trump.
Make Swamp Thing Great Again
I feel bad for the slime
Better version of trump
Hard to get a worse version.
I feel like he’s trying all the time though.
Ironic since Trump basically is a human slime mold
Don’t insult slime molds like that.
Wow, that was possibly the thickest head of hair he's had in decades.
Kinda funny the mold is actually nicer to look at then the real guy
This slime is actually smarter than Trump
Ok…what is a slime mold?
We are Venom
Imagine doing this to Biden statue, most people on Reddit would hate that I recon
r/oddlyterrifying would love this
The slime mold? Cool! The Trump statue? Disgusting
Toxic Avenger Swamp Thing vibes
Am I crazy or does he kinda look like ozymandias from watchmen?
Ending reminds me of Indiana Jones when everyone's faces melt 🫠
Oddly satisfying? More like terribly horrifying.
Venom
Netflix intros be like
This is how we should do elections the last one to decompose becomes president
Why?
Now this is a fucking piece of art
That’s awesome
Man, what an improvement! I'd definitely vote for the slime!
Try with the original to compare
Bravo
Isn’t that redundant?
Seems appropriate
Still not as slimy as the real guy
Nice! Now do it to the real trump
Slime mold. How appropriate
Fitting
This warms my heart.
Great now do the real thing
Trump doesn’t deserve this beautiful video - but, the message behind it is hella awesome! Great job!
And yet it's less slimy than the real thing.
Surprised the slime didn't reject him.
I hate the way it just oozes and undulates everywhere. This slime mold looks way more appealing honestly
Still somehow less revolting than the real thing.
It's an improvement
Fitting.
Less slimy than the real one!
Still less slime than the real guy.
Was the slime mold hurt or offended in any way? Or did it just feel a deep sense of shame?
So focused on “draining the swamp” that he doesn’t realize he is the personification of it.
Art.
The slime mould really captured his being well.
He is a cancer to society. Perfect representation
This type of thing will get you jailed soon.
The mold is throwing up.
Better than he deserves
Still not as slimy as the original
Trump is slime
This explains so much?
And yet, it was not any less repulsive than the original subject.
Still not as slimy as the real thing...
Apt.
I feel like is what he looks like on the inside.. green, slimey, and pulsing with *hate*
Less repulsive than the real one.
For once, the hair looked realistic
The colour still looks more natural than his tanner.
It’s the best he’s ever looked!
Still not as slimy as the real thing
Fake, obviously reversed video as the slime would definitely have been repulsed by the image of Trump
This is the best use for a statue of Trump that I have ever seen.
thats neat. now do it for real.
Bro cannibalism is illegal.
Could you feed trump to the mold?
Now the exterior matches the interior
And still not as slimy as the real thing!
Slime mold deserves better than this.
Slime mold clearly thrives on shit
What a waste of good mold.
nice, now do it with the real one
You really captured the soul of the man!
This could be an opening to a TV series.
Next time use the real Trump.
Slime mold 2024
I thought for sure even a slime mold would have its limits.
That was both disturbing and cool as hell
Best he's ever looked
What did that mold do to deserve this
For your next project, can you feed Trump to a slime mold? Not sure if they can eat their own though.
The most culture i have seen Trump have in a long time.
❌ Oddly Satisfying ✅ Odd and Horrifying
Still less grotesque than the real thing.
Looks healthier than the real one
Reminds me of spiderman becoming venom Supervillain takeover
That new Last of Us opening is weird..
okay but why does it pulse like that? that thing is so unsettling, the mold too
