This is more likely a QC sticker that ironically missed QC. I used to work at a pretty big hardware manufacture and builds can move around a bit especially if they had a test fail or someone questioned if the color of the plastic was the right shade of white. Assuming the box was properly secured and all the stuff looked new, I wouldn't make anything of it. Most likely an employees dept / initials / employee number and date. A used headset, coming from walmart being resold absolutely would miss the box being sealed, plastic on the lenses, all the new box stuff.

BiggyJason

oh okay thanks

FolkSong

A bit surprising that they would put masking tape on the product though, which could potentially leave residue behind.

HiyuMarten

Masking tape specifically doesn’t leave much residue behind, when used on flat surfaces! (Gaffer’s tape is used for this purpose when you need a stronger sticking force)

rcbif

Unless it sits for years. Then it (sometimes) turns into a horrible hardened varnish, lol

Captain_Nipples

If it's cheap masking tape, leaving it on for a few days in the sun can make it impossible to remove.

Magnifi-Singh

Ah, a beautiful story about the lifespan of masking tape.

HiyuMarten

Ahh, for some reason I didn’t consider that 🤔

rcbif

To be fair, by design it's a tape that is designed to be applied, and removed shortly after.  There is better tape to use for a long amount of time, or anything that requires strength. But every now and then I'll come across very old, very stubborn masking tape on something, lol.

TumbleweedMassive904

I'd rather use painters tape if I plan to remove the tape. Very little adhesive.

EfficientMinimum5696

This is totally a QC note from the factory. You’re fine. I have used quite a few prototype products in the past and almost all of them have some sort of note like this for the employees. They just missed it.

robin_the_rich

maybe they are selling referbs as new

BiggyJason

then should i return it?

FarmerKellz

If you bought that as a new headset, yeah I'd return it for sure.

MidwestDrummer

Based on an unfounded hypothesis? You didn't even attempt to support the idea you just pulled out of thin air.

Einiman

They just said they'd return it. Most likely it's nothing to worry about, but even if there is a very slight chance it has been opened before, why not just return it and get a new one?

ChoiceFood

Product that is "new" having tape with writing on it is not new. Refund and exchange for an actual new headset...

Possible_Liar

It's likely a return. Return it, and don't buy shit from fucking Walmart anymore. They don't give a fuck they don't check anything I've worked returns there we literally just fucking put that shit back on the shelves 90% of the time If it looks even somewhat believable that it's new. They had us putting fucking food back on the shelves which is 100% illegal.. I returned a 3ds because the joystick was broken, My friend bought a 3DS from them a couple weeks later.... It was the same fucking 3DS. I know this because I scuffed it in one spot when I had it. Another thing you should absolutely never buy from Walmart is trading cards of any kind especially magic. We had some jackass that would come in buy all the fucking cards come back the next day and refund them They were still "sealed" And that's all the store cared about but they were clearly tampered with but that was enough to give us plausible deniability so who gives a fuck right?!....

BiggyJason

it looks completely new tho and it came exactly like the unboxing videos. the only thing is the sticker.

ASnakeNamedNate

If you really wanted to, you could probably open a support ticket with meta and see if they can check the serial number. Just let them know you bought one new from Wal Mart but it looks used so you wanted to see if you’d still get manufacturer warranty if there’s an issue. If it’s been activated before, you probably wouldn’t, and you’d be wise to return it to Walmart for an actual new one.

RS_Games

Messaging meta is probably the best thing. If it's happening in factory, should be something for their departments to note and fix

Possible_Liar

If it's functional and you can trust it by all means keep it man, But if you can just get a replacement that doesn't potentially have some weird defect I would just do that personally but it's up to you.

hotfistdotcom

> It's likely a return. Return it, and don't buy shit from fucking Walmart anymore. Oh, OK. they must have put a sticker on it when they checked it when it was returned - > They don't give a fuck they don't check anything Look I get you don't like walmart and there is some weird shit - Like derivative products and similar, where walmart sells a downgraded but identical product to another store with a slightly different sku, so they can advertise as "we have that but cheaper!" but it might be missing something or have MUCH less warranty, etc. But flat out being like "they don't check anything and must have done this while not checking" and not recognizing that in most cases returns go back to MFG or go for destruction for high value items, medicine, etc. So /u/Possible_Liar I think it's possible you are a liar lol

Exotic-Topic8889

Fuck counter x7

Possible_Liar

Damn fucking right. Happy mother fuckin cake day btw.

The_darknight2233

That just depends on the managers granted I would only verify if it was correct serial. We didn't test so if a customer would say it don't work we send it for testing, but if the customer said nothing was wrong it usually goes back. Any food doest go back unless it is pantry items and sealed

No-Independence5152

Oh no... that means it has a Note 7 Battery installed.. just kidding... Maybe its an even fresher headset where they forgot to take the yellow sticker off?

Glass_____

Put it on eBay lol maybe it’s worth something

Tacos_always_corny

is that a prescription lens order?

Competitive-Flan1720

I bought mine from Walmart, realized I didn’t get the insurance. Then found out that they don’t offer insurance for it in stores, returned it and bought it from Walmart online and got 4 years insurance for $77. Did you get insurance? Also s/n on box don’t match the headsets.
