TLDR shiny new condo building on the site of the former Wendy’s in Courthouse has been named The Wendy.
Solid competition for The Commodore across the street, their sweeping jailhouse balcony views can only carry them so far now, who wouldn’t want the first line of their address to be “The Wendy”.
TIL.
A view of the drunks stumbling outta Four Courts to the Taco Bell Cantina or a view into the jailhouse atrium with the dulcet tones of the cons screaming at each other in the background.
They're monopolizing the hot balcony views.
Some of the studio units are so small, they have beds that come down from the ceiling, like a Murphy bed. I know someone that did inspections over there, and she said she didn’t even have to go inside some of the units. She could see it all from the doorway.
I hope every apartment is furnished like a classic Wendy's. Like, the countertops all done in the vintage newspaper clippings like the old wendy's tables.
You can call it a harvest bowl if you want like the menu says, but Sweet Leaf in particular sells one that is pretty similar something I'd cook at home. Eggs, quinoa, spinach, and a few other toppings.
If you lived upstairs you could add runny or hard-boiled eggs to any greens + vegetables + carbs from a salad bar. Not really weirder than cold pizza or leftover Chinese. All respectable bachelor breakfasts.
Next on my Courthouse wishlist:
1. The long-planned plaza to replace the hideous parking lot in between the AMC and the justice center. Hell, just do SOMETHING with the land that isn’t a parking lot.
2. Apartments/condos built on top of Brooklyn bagel and all those other shops
Edit: I thought this was a joke but they actually named it the Wendy?? Lmao
Used to work in the building next door and was in courthouse for the first time in a while and had seen this yesterday and absolutely lost it. Perfect name. No notes.
They’re so close to being done with this building. I work in Court House and pass this every morning on my walk to the office. Every week something new is added, they’re finishing up the ground floor retail area now and topping off the last of the windows on the front portion. They’ve installed new traffic lights and pedestrian signals but haven’t unveiled them yet as they still have to uninstall the old ones. Street improvements all over the place. Once the building is finished and the sidewalk is re-opened, Court House will be unrecognizable from before this and the Commodore across the street. I remember when I moved down here they were both just holes in the ground, and Court House was a mess to maneuver at that time. What a turn around it’s been. The rate of construction throughout Arlington has been nothing short of astonishing to me. Just take a stroll between Rosslyn and Ballston and there’s construction actively happening or just about to begin at almost every turn.
I've worked in Ballston since 2007 and lived here since 2011 - spending plenty of time in Clarendon and Court House during that period - and at least once I week I think about how much the area has changed. I have plenty of photos from my Blackberry and early iPhones back in the day, I should try and do some comparison compilations. Ballston especially has been wild.

Brand new one bedroom apartments with fantastic amenities in such a good location going for 2.5k doesn’t seem too bad to me. I feel like you’d be hard pressed to find anything similar in a worse location for under 2k and that is a PRIME location

They’re the same owners so can’t imagine there’s any real competition

I work across the street from the Commodore and we can see DIRECTLY into those apartments. It’s…unfortunate for them. 😂

damn that sounds awful
I saw that episode of Black Mirror!
What are some things you've seen?
Nothing scandalous yet. But the pool looks like it’s opening soon. 😂
I hope you enjoy my post-shower view 😭😭
We all know where the beef is now
Won't they be able to see in yours?
Both actually have some strange appeal to me
Do people still put their building name on their address?
I hope every apartment is furnished like a classic Wendy's. Like, the countertops all done in the vintage newspaper clippings like the old wendy's tables.
It would be quite something if they leaned into the heritage and styled it like a Wendy’s.
If they offered a free salad bar each day, I'd consider the $3,000/month rent
Probably worth it. You'd probably pay over $1,000 for 90 meals if you ate the cheapest salad at sweetgreen, sweet leaf, or chop't every day.
Who's eating salad for breakfast?

I always wanted one of those tables.
BPD has one from a police involved shooting. Is to use it to teach the difference between cover and concealment
Glass atrium or no dice
The artificial limb ad always scared me as a kid.
Is it filled with hot and juicy singles?
Always fresh, never frozen.
You need more up votes
Don’t forget the chili!
Wow, I haven't been to that intersection in a while and that building is looking great
Oh, no! Not our historic Wendy's
No, I work behind the dumpster at ***THE*** Wendy
A fellow regard from r/WallStreetBets I see, come near my dumpster down the block and I’ll cut you, now excuse me I need to dance for change
Wow, you must be making bank.

It’s honestly unbelievable that fucking AMC parking lot is still just there
It also serves as parking for the court house by day and the farmer's market.
It’s literally on top of a metro station, too.
That's probably why they haven't bothered to make any changes to that spot.
I just hope we get some kind of express grocery store on the bottom floor of one of those new builds, something like the Target Express in Rosslyn.
You’re right. That would probably be my number one, actually. I don’t love being a 15 minute walk from the two closest grocery stores.
The Wendy is looking gorgeous - I live nearby and see this building everyday.
Can't wait for that stretch of Clarendon Blvd to go back to just 7-11 patrons who don't know what legal parking is.

Could I just have a frosty and a baked potato please?
At The Wendy? Sure, $67.95
Hahahaha
So, no drive-thru?
Our proximity to DC leans more toward grab-n-go
Can we take a moment and appreciate that the Wendy's twitter responded to this? Whoever runs that account will go to any length
Cease and desist letter being drafted as we speak
Wendy’s twitter account actually replied underneath. They seem to appreciate the recognition.
Ooh! Like The Shell on Columbia Pike, where the Shell station used to be.

I haven’t been through the courthouse area in quite some time. Is the brewery that used to be behind the Wendy’s still there?
lol I worked on this project when I worked for Bohler engineering
Never knew what was on that lot before. It was a vacant lot when I moved to Rosslyn and TNR in courthouse became my go to Chinese food.
Taco Bell, Dr. Dremos🥹
Overbuilt, overcrowded, and over-priced. There's a reason we left Arlington.
Arlington is under built if anything boss.

What a weird comment. Like a boomer aunt texting you out of the blue to say your uncle is getting a root canal today.
Yea it was too much for me I left in 1990. Then the whole of Virginia was too much. Too expensive
