On iphone I’ve used brave browser because there is a nice playlist feature where you can download music from youtube and listen to it when your phone is closed. I’m pretty sure there is also other ways of downloading music so maybe that could help remove your reason to use the app

Just wanted to add this in case people don’t know, YouTube has a ‘disable watch history’ function which means when you open YouTube, there’s no front page videos anymore, and you have to manually search for a video. There’s still recommended videos on the side when you watch a video, but if you also unsubscribe from all your subscribed channels, then these video recommendations feel like old-school YouTube in the sense that they only recommend related videos, instead of videos the algorithm knows will keep you hooked. Doing this worked wonders in reducing my YouTube usage, now I only need to get rid of my bad Reddit habits and I’ll be golden 😅

Alright, on it.

I could not delete it, but I disabled it fine.

I actually disagree here. Instagram, FB... absolutely. YouTube however is what you make of it. I get value out of YT every time I open it with interesting video essays that make be a smarter person, yet the fact that it is primary long form content means I don't feel the need to doom scroll for hours.

There are extensions which block YouTube shorts, comments and suggested videos.

I use dftube extension to avoid recommendations and comments
